So far, I have 12 - got 6 online, found a few in stores and my wife also picked a few up. It's a totally excellent figure, especially with a little black paint to touch up some needed areas on the mask.
How about you all?
:P
-
I've got 3: 1 carded, 2 loose.
My carded one is hanging on the OTC Wall of Figures, the two loose ones are flanking my FF Rem Helmet Vader as he overlooks my Bounty Hunters.
I think I'll stick with 2 for now and hope for a cheaper re-release army builder pack or something. $10 each is just too much IMHO for massive army-building. Buying anything more than the 3 that I have will eat too much into my budget, and then I'd have to start passing things up. :(
In fact, even buying 3 figures for $30 is starting to get excessive in my book... :-\
Jeff
-
1 and it's still carded. Been debating whether to open these or not, I really like how they look on the cards (and this coming from someone who opens everything)
-
Eight
12 :)
-
Not sure right now. I haven't had the chance to open stuff recently. I probably have close to 10.
-
6 for me, 1 carded and 5 loose, and I think that's all I'll buy unless I get lucky on a $5 clearance sale ::) :P
-
Um, none? :'(
The plan was to get 2 of each - 1 carded, 1 opened. But I like Nataku's idea of 1 flanking either side of Vader.
-
2 for me, with plans to get 2 more later.
-
I think I've got 7 or 8 now, and will probably be keeping two of them carded (one in plastic, one just on the card). I basically just buy them whenever I see them, which hasn't been too often. Hopefully that doesn't go on too much longer though! I tend to erase in my mind the fact that these are costing me $11 a pop - twice as much as normal.
Well worth it for this excellent figure though, of course! Still think Hasbro will eventually pull their collective heads out of their asses sometime down the road, and find another way to get more of these to retail, for a little cheaper.
Despite what they keep saying... ::)
-
I have two now, one of which I got last night that isn't yet loose like my other one.
I'm getting two more whenever EE ships me my case. I'll keep one of those carded.
I'll buy some more if I ever see them. If.
-
Between the ones I got from Jeff & Matt (DBK) here at JD.com, the few I picked up at TRU and the 5 or so that one of my buddies has for me, I now have.... (counts fingers) 24. ;D
-
4 open here and 8 still on the cards for opening. Not sure if I really need to army build at the steep price still. Time will tell if I open or return. :)
-
3, one carded and two loose
Plans to get more but at $25 a pop here it's gonna be hard.
works out to about $19 US a fig so as you can see collecting outside of the US can suck!!!!
And no we don't get good clearance sales like you guys do either.
-

If you decide to return them, why don't you return them to my p.o.box? ;D
-
9. Hopefully they'll hit stores near me soon so I can add to that as well :P
-
I currently have 6 opened here.
1's lying dead, in an incredible "gut-holding" pose with his lifeless legs propping his lower body on its side (to accomodate the grenade).
1's fallen beside him, but is crawling towards his squad-mates, firing away with his E-11 while looking down his body at who attacked them.
1's got his left hand on his holster after undoing his E-11 and he's blasting away with it one-handed with his right hand.
1's kneeling behind the two prone troops, giving them support with his E-11 to help the struggling troop to relative safety.
1's holding the BFG the Sandtroopers had... The T-21. He's the team's support gunner, and he's doing his job standing behind my Alarm Clock for cover, and actually firing the rifle with his right hand and cradling it with is left... Dunno what's up with the big stabilizer on the side of it. Dumb.
And finally, 1's using the other Sandtrooper rifle, the one Chewie used on the DS. He's giving some support as the team sharpshooter, also nicely tucked behind the Alarm Clock for cover. :)
These things are Sooooo cool. :)
-
And so we have proof that Hasbro actually does understand it's market. That, and we've given them the green light to put out more expensive figures. :-\

24? Wow!!! Are they open? You should post a pic of them kicking some Rebel a$$!
:P
-
Just 1, and it's staying carded.
-
Just 1
-
I have 1 carded and 1 loose.
And at US prices it would have bought me about 6 of the buggers ;D
-
I now own 2 - bought one on Friday to open
-
I've opened 20 now. I'm going to try to curb the want to get more at that. If they go on clearance or become available in a cheaper four pack or something I'll have to pick up more - they're awesome.
-
I've got 15 or 16 now... I really need to stop buying them. The 'ol checking account is looking slim and the wife is getting pissed!
:P
-
15 or 16? 20? 24?
Man some of you guys are just plain addicted... :P
and now I know who to PM when I stumble across more of these at Target. ;)
Jeff
-
I currently have just 9 and that might be it for me. I even passed on 2 this past weekend.
-
If I saw some this week I'd have to pass - can't afford more right now! :(
:P
-
I haven't been able to stop....
23 now.
-
I haven't been able to stop....
23 now.
Pics, Pics! I'd love to see all those lined up.
-
23's a lot KBZ, but I'm only envious... I don't know that, at $10, I'd be able to justify that many. I'd want them, but this month's had a special occassion, next is X-Mas, Jan. is a special Birthday, and of course Feb.'s Valentine's day... >:(
Dammit I want 20+ VOTC Stormies too!
I still have my little 6 man squad here though... This is the first figure since the modern line began that really had me actually down on the floor playing with it. If Hasbro did EVERY army builder like this (and made sure it was available), I'd die a happy camper. I'd not care if they made a single other figure, just as long as every army builder was done this way (resculpts and newbies).
-

C'mon, I know you did the same thing with the Super Poseable Clonetrooper, no?
-
Well I'm supposedly getting 4 more for my B-Day.
But, it still has awhile befour it can match my SA Clone army, which is fairly good.
-
I've lost count now - got 4 more this week (and passed up about 10 more). I think I'm right around 20 - which is about how many of the SA clone I have.
I agree Jesse - this figure is too expensive to army build in the quanties we all want. My bank is mad at me! ;)
:P
-
I picked up my 2nd, but if I had a little more cash I'd pick up several more. It is such a nice figure (wish it was cheaper, obviously), and I think I've actually seen 10-20 at retail within the past week or so, surprisingly.
-
I just have two for now. I'll pick up more if they go on clearance. I've seen about 10 of them so far.
-
I'm not banking on a clearance for these. Every time any show, they seem to sell out, or at least that's been my experience. I found ONE in a store. UnfortunatelY I've had to deal for them or get them online otherwise.
:(
ANH figures are even dwindling. I dunno about you guys but the #'s of those at Wal-Mart are dramatically lower in recent weeks. Early spikes in buying for X-Mas maybe?
-
I only have one. My clone army is where I sunk my cash in to.

I have noticed that also but I am assuming our local Wally World stuff just got sent to another store.
-
My CW army's not huge, but I'm just waiting for SA Clones to pump it up. The pre-posed were just not cutting it.
-
Just the one. I haven't seen any up here but they have showed up, I may want to get a couple more but thats it.
-

They haven't really arrived much anywhere in Canada yet. Our one TRU got them last week, but it's basically spotty everywhere. Hoping the TRU sale this week means they got a buttload in. I doubt it, but I can pretend.
It's funny, I have so many VOTC in transit right now that it's almost ridiculous. If Amazon comes through with the 3PO's, that's two more. I think there are 18 figs currently in transit and I probably have about a dozen here already.
I will buy every stormtrooper I see, I can promise you that.
-
I'm hoping the TRU sale produces some new stock, my TRU still has butt loads of Ben's & Lukes & if they don't move. :-\
Seems out of the 3 TRU's here, one gets new stuff in & there gone.
-
We have two. One is better, fortunately the one closer to me. Unbelievably the Han/Ben/Luke wave is still moving. And actually, I have to buy another Han at some point :o I only have one right now, might actually be the same for Ben. Hoping for a US Walmart clearance on those two.
-
Here's another chance to participate in impulse control:
As of now, in stock at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00021Z1NS/qid=1101131693/sr=2-2/ref=pd_ka_b_2_2/002-3254047-6072008).

Impressive..... Most impressive.
-
That's a great pic Zod - very nice. I'd like to have that many VOTC Stormtroopers...
Hey Obi-dad! Haven't seen you at www.coreplanets.com lately?
:P
-
Nice pic Zod. The floor/table that you have them set up on is cool, 'cause that reflection makes it look like the Death Star floor. ;D
-
STUPID WAL MART FUCTARDING BITCH!
I STOOD IN LINE FOR 15 FRIGGEN MINUETS BEHIND THIS STINKY COUPLE TO BUY THE LAST VOTC STORMTROOPER IN THE STORE AND LOE AND BEHOLD THE HAMLY SKANK OF THE TRAILER PARK CLOSES THE LANE. THE UTTER SNAKE DESERVES NOTHING LESS THAN DEATH FOR CLOSING THE LANE. AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! >:(
-
Did you get the Stormtrooper?
Wal-Mart sucks. I'm glad that the only Wal-Mart that actually stocks SW around here has self-checkout.
I'm up to four open, one carded. Plenty at $10-13 a pop.
-
Nope, I could have ahd 7 by now, but only have 6... :(
-
I intended to buy one. After all, it is a ten dollar figure--but it rocked my world, so I had to cave in and army-build him just like everyone else.
So now I have two. :-*
-
Two does not an army make :P
-
Ok after a slow start on finding these guys I have 20. Of that 12 are opened and the other 8 are just waiting for me to have the free time to set em loose.
I am addicted.
I've gotten them from Trades, Ordering 2 cases from EE ( just to get the Stromies and Fett) and the one lucky day I found them at the 3 different TRU's and 2 Wal_Marts I went to(and made sure to leave 2 at each store).
If I had the "Customizer's Gene" I'd make some Luke and Han in Stormie Customs, but that would just be wasteful at $10 a fig.
I plan to stop at 30.
-
I have 4. Hope to get a few for Christmas.
-
I plan to stop at 30.
Does this mean I have to buy four more to make sure I keep up with the Joneses?
-
I have I think 18 now... I have restricted myself some, but I have a feeling I am going to buy the next few I see.
:P
-
I have some on the way from various outlets. :) My army will break 10 soon.
-
You all are setting a bad example to Hasbro!!! By purchasing $10 army builders in abundance, you're giving them the idea to do this all the time. On behalf of us poor and/or cheap collectors, I beg of you all to stop collecting VOTC Stormtroopers!
Won't someone please think of the children?!?! ;)
-
I still only have the one. Though I've seen three now. For you guys with ten or more, bless you. :)
-
I have....two. Not much of an army I guess. The $10 pricepoint is all that is holding me back though. I've actually seen them on several occasions now, and 2-3 of them have been hanging at our closest Target for a couple of weeks now. I get so tempted each time I see one though. Luckily the commtech version isn't too terrible, and mixing the two together works out ok. The SA Clonetrooper spoiled me I think, although I couldn't find it around here...but it showed that we could basically get the same type of figure as the VOTC Stormie, but for half the price. Plus, we'll get the next incarnation of the Clonetrooper next year with ROTS, hopefully utilizing the SA Clone body. Like I said though, tempting to pick up another VOTC Stormtrooper every time I see one.
Also, on a side note, if you're still looking for the ROTJ VOTC wave, they have been popping on and off of Amazon all week. Last I checked, Chewie and R2 were both in stock over there.
-
Does this mean I have to buy four more to make sure I keep up with the Joneses?
Oh please no, I will concede the race for the sake of both of our wallets....(but I did snag a couple more yesterday).
If you think about it though Rob...between the two of us, we might have the most Loose VOTC Stormies in a 30 mile radius. Does that make us winners .......or losers?
And I agree with CoranHorn we are setting a bad example for Hasbro..but I can't help it. I've been waiting for this Stormtrooper ever since GI Joe got the "Swivel Arm" back in 1983....so if you think about it, I've only bought 1.5 for every year I've been waiting....hows that for rationalization....
-

Now only if you could adjust for inflation over that 21 year period, then many of those Stormies would have cost you only $2 :)
-
Added two more to the roster. I want a nice sized squad of troops. That's what I'm aiming for. Gonna whip up some packs for them, and pauldrons, and modify some weapons so they're more rigid and can hold them well, and then I'll be set.
From then on I'll wait for cheaper versions of this to be released.
I'm planning to make a hand/blaster set for my CT versions which # over 100. WIth poseable hands, the CT figure is really a good figure. Not able to kneel, but a running pose (with stand), or 2-handed firing pose are all doable, and he looks great dead too.
KBZ's shot of his army shows how well I think the old one blends with the new too. I saw people going ga-ga that the VOTC was so vastly superior, but in reality its sculpt differences are fairly subtle and the CT figure was good to begin with.
It's like the tree in Merry Christmas Charlie Brown... It just needs some care, and maybe a little effort, and it is a nice infantry filler.
My squad will look so lovely busting through some home-made city ruins, doing a nice "sweep & clear" of a local uprising. :)
Seriously, this figure is the first time in my adult life I have felt like a child when buying the new toys. I've "posed" them substantially... I'm even to the point I have a tough time calling it "pose" and really need to just fess up that I've been playing with these guys.
Deluxe Durge was doing battle with them just a while ago. hehe ;D

(Jesse James in no way endorses this behavior if you are single and looking)
Crap! And here all this time, I thought that's what the chicks digged!
-
Rob, I'm sorry...I was at Wal Mart earlier today getting some stuff and I strolled by the toys and well...BOOM 5 more. I swear I was just looking at it and it went off.
I have stopped. I swear. If my wife sees another clear clamshell she's gonna coronary...
If I could just find the GI Joes I was looking for I'd stop going down that Aisle and would be tempted by the Sirens....
-
Well my Platoon just broke 7. Aiming for 12...

What's the total?
I'm on hold at 27 - but I hear Target is going to clearance sometime reasonably soon...
-
Reasonable is a very subjective term....one man's (sorry person's) reasonable time is another one's ETERNITY..
-
Do you guys' Target stores have that many Stormtroopers that they will be there at clearance time?
If so, remember your less fortunate friends *hint hint hint* ;D
I haven't seen a Stormtrooper in a while at a store....
Well, I take that back, I found one a couple weeks ago and bought it since I had a good day at school that day (figured I'd blow the $10 as a gift to myself).
I've found 2 at stores only. The rest of my little squd I've traded for. :( They look great together though... I love decking them out with some of the other stormie weapons too. They look good... Like a real support team. I have an impy officer head swap with them right now too. Damn great figures!
Anyway, if you guys with tons of these find them cheap and get extras, by all means hit me up because I need more to satiate this obsession.
My West Coast Connection here's helpin' me some. :) I gotta have more though!
-
When/If they hit clearance in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area, I'll snag you some(and anybody else for that matter), unless you want them now, I saw some on the Cough Medicine run early this morning...
-
I know it's kinda crappy of me and it's not something I normally do, but I've got 5 stashed at an undisclosed Target hoping they stay hidden until clearance - if they don't go on clearance and are still there after xmas, I'll still buy them probably.
-
Kinda low down and dirty in hiding them - but if you are going to buy them then that is ok - I've thought about doing the same thing. :-\
Anyways, yesterday TRU had 7 of them - it hurt to not get any...
:P
-
Yeah, I figured I'd go ahead and do it under three conditions. 1 being that it's not something I ever do. 2 being that I buy them even if they don't go on clearance. 3 being that I've left numerous stormies on the pegs over the last few months.
-
I saw 3 at Target the other day but at $25 a pop no thanks
I have 3 at the moment with no real plans to get any more.
I have 2 open ones that will be standing gaurd next to Mr Vader and the other will remain sealed.
-

#4. PMundheim lives on the other side of town and probably won't go into that particular section......hopefully..... ;)

$25 each?
Zod - maybe I should go back to TRU and hide some of them that I saw... but I don't think TRU will be lowering the price anytime soon. :'(
:P
-
Picked up one for me (grand total = a whooping 3) and one more for my Secret Santa last night. I figured everyone would be happy with another VOTC stormie.

Don't worry, this one's about as far away from you as any.
-
I don't know...my obsession with these things has made me broaden my comfort zone a bit...
-
How broad?
-
Haven't seen one since the Wal-Mart episode, I am begining to regret not going back for it.
-
I got one in the mail today I received from a trade. Love getting rid of old stuff I don't want for new stuff I can't find. :)
-
...and apparently you haven't checked your PMs yet, 'cause you've got 4 more on the way now! :-*
-
Yeah, 4 FREE ones! It's great! :P
***Whistles Innocently***
Thanks Matt. :)
-
Let the record show, that I passed on SEVEN more of these bad-boys today. Then shared their location with this thread's other Dallas-addict.
-
You're a hoarder! HOARDER!
Burn for ruining the hobby... and stuff. ::)
-
Well I am a good collector and just bought 1 and kept it carded. Of course that is because I have only been able to see 1 and that's it! Damn you hoarders!!! Damn you all!!!
:)
-
They suck... I know.
Where's my 4 at Matt??? :-*
I have to say I've only seen the two in stores though myself... I know there's some army builders here who've bought them (or I'm pretty sure a few of the guys army build besides myself) so I know where they've mostly gone... Still, I'm cool with that... Maybe because I had a good Commtech army going or something, I dunno.
I know when the SA Clone hit, it hit BIGTIME at a Wal-Mart that had just opened up and I got all of ONE figure... Tons of that case got opened and I got the last one (I'm amazed one was even on the pegs). Nobody to blame though, even though I know where they likely went... I figure I just didn't get there in time.
I keep thinking the likelihood of army builder sets on these figures is high... It makes cost-sense for Hasbro to do so actually since the molds are done already, and it's not exactly rocket science to figure they'll do these eventually for on the cheap...
I'm jonesin' for a Stormtrooper one that includes removable backpacks and pauldrons with a variety of rifles. Something that is just extra cool for those of us wanting some officers, non-coms, and specialists mixed into it. I popped a pauldron on my one VOTC the other day and it looks great. Like a mini-marmit Sandtrooper. :)
-
Well, I had stashed a few at a TRU in my area for when I had some extra money. Today I was eating at Panera Bread Company with my sister for lunch - she wanted to know what to get me for Christmas. I told her that I wanted some VOTC Stormtroopers. I knew she wouldn't be able to probably find any, so I told her to go to TRU with me after we got eating.
Went to my secret "stash" and they were gone. Oh well. I told her I needed a gift card maybe instead. :)
:P
-

wait people are giving up VOTC Stormies for useless crap??? who wants to give me VOTC Stormies for POTF2 figs?? come on, great deals to be had!! ;D
-
Actually Paul gave up a couple for fodder... Amazingly.
But I had Saga Lando Gen. and Han AT-ST that I got to help people out that I traded away for one... "useless" isn't maybe the best word, but useless to me I guess since I don't do carded stuff.
And a VOTC Stormie to boot! Yay!
-
Let the record show, that I passed on SEVEN more of these bad-boys today. Then shared their location with this thread's other Dallas-addict.
And I got so busy that I didn't get over there to pick them up...
And Jesse trading Fodder for a VOTC...not since Jack traded the cow for magic beans has there been such a deal!!! You rock.
-
They're probably still there...
-
It was like 8 fodder figures... But it was fodder.
That's the paradox of value my friend. :)
-
too true, one man's trash is another man's treasure...which explains why so many Ex-wives get re-married...
-
OOOooooo Zing dude. :)
-
Sitting now on three complete sets (minus one Boba) with an extra Chewie, 5 extra 3PO and 17 extra stormtroopers (20 total). Will continue buying stormtroopers and Boba if I see them. :-[
-
I just have 2 Stormtroopers.
-
Alright damnit, now I'm mad at myself. I'm not passing on any more VOTC Stormtroopers. I need an entire legion of these.
:P
-
15 today... Thanks Matt. :)
The Stormies are gonna go crack some Cantina wave skulls I think... Those dudes were looking shifty earlier.
-
Im at 16 and thats it unless I find some clearanced. I scored 3 MOC's last night on ebay for only $18 :)
-
Wow! You guys are paying $10 a pop for these VOTC correct? Man, you must all REALLY love these stormies.
-
Best...
Figure...
Ever...
Well, at least a tie with soem of the other VOTC that are out and about.
I'm jonesing for 5 more now, but I'm likely done unless I miraculously run into these at stores. I've seen TWO at stores total, and that kinda bites the big one.
-
It's a cool figure, but I really couldn't call it the best ever. The eyes just look too big to me. Compare the figure to a photo from one of the movies, and maybe you'll see what I mean. :-\
(I might also remind everyone that the Commtech Stormtrooper was once hailed as a "perfect" likeness of the movie character.)
-

I agree, there is something about the eyes that seem a bit off... they seem a tad too big, but now the CT Stormtrooper's eyes seem a tad too small!
The CT Stormtrooper will always be high on my list...
:P
-
I still consider the CT a great likeness... For its time, it's wonderful, and it doesn't look out of place with the VOTC which, to me, speaks volumes for that figure's quality.
I don't really see the eye variance myself... It's a small enough detail that it slips by. To me all the great VOTC aren't perfect yet, but I'd still give the nod of "BFE" to the VOTC Stormtrooper at this stage. Yet to see anything compare.
I consider things like Han's floating holster, Chewie's brighter highlights, and Boba's height as more noticeable detractors... Then again the Stormies holster isn't anything to write home about at all, so he's got his flaws too.
-
Yep, the CT Stormtrooper to me is still one heck of a figure. Some of the articulation could have been better, but at the time it came out it was light years ahead of the earlier buff version, and seemed to be a bit ahead of its time. I still love the figure and while the VOTC one is better, the CT ones still stand proud in my dioramas. The buff ones however, had to get lost a long time ago. ;)

CT's only MAJOR flaw was the wrists. Give him VOTC figure's hands, and you've got a great figure in its own right. VOTC's trouncing it though with all the other joints, the holster (It works... sorta). To me the only major flaws for the VOTC were the price and availability. :)
Release these in a 4-pack and I'm in till I go broke. :D
-
Went and picked up those ones I stashed a few weeks ago. There were 6 of them - at 7 Bucks each - minus the giftcard I had = 6 Stormies, 29 dollars and change.
I'm at 35 now.
-
Man, if any of you guys are finding EXTRAS on clearance, keep me in mind... I'd buy from ya.
Damned if we're even lucky enough for these to sit at all. I still have only spotted TWO Stormtroopers on the pegs total, and bought them. He just never showed up here in droves.
-
For a long time I was under the impression that nation-wide distribution was pretty much even - especially in metropolitan areas.
Then I saw the counter example to end that thinking... My buddy has been looking for the Target Slave Leia with Plastic Cup for about 3 months now. Everywhere we go we look for it. All they ever have is Anakin and X-wing Luke.
Then, I go back to Clearwater - and literally go into ONE store to grab a gift for my nephew... They've got over 30 of them.
Over 30! Just collecting dust.
-
Yeah, distribution is wonky all over... I see a lot of people around the sites claim that "if you go out and look, you'll find it", but the reality is that regional distribution varies greatly...
Many areas saw the EU figures in 98, for example, but Pittsburgh saw NOTHING of those figures really. Maybe one shipment or two, and they went just as fast. None on clearance either. Those were some of the only figures I never saw at retail except for the Fan Club.
The Y-Wing was another fine example of regional distribution blunder. Target's had just opened in the area, and while the West Coast was claiming they sat and even clearanced, out here they were non-existant.
Something odd too, Ach Med Beq... Everywhere had TONS of him I have heard, to the point they still have that figure on pegs, but he really saw a normal shipment here... Came and went, like he should've.
I sorta think it's misleading to tell people "If you get out there and look, you'll find it!" then. I think that, unless you live in their area, you can't really say what ranks as a shelf-warmer and what doesn't. It's weird how things are distributed. I know Bobafett14 travels all over creation, and he's told me how one area has FX-7's on the pegs as recently as this past Summer I think... I mean, that's an awesome figure that flew off shelves here as quickly as the Imp Officer that he was packed in with did. It's really strange. And I believe that was just down over the state lines in Maryland as I recall too.
-
As Jesse mentioned, distribution is pretty messed up on a national scale, but even on a city scale it's weird. Here in Chicagoland, it's been my observation that the south side of the city and the southern suburbs will get new items approximately a month before the north side of the city and the northern burbs. I've tried to figure out a rationale for this and can't seem to figure it out. Chicago proper alone extends 31+ miles from North to South (12+ miles West to East) at it's maxii, and there doesn't seem to be a difference in the amount of collectors on either side of town. So what could it be that causes this, if I had to guess it would just be that local distribution centers are probably located in the southern part of the area where there's a lot of undeveloped land. If that's the case, then it would seem to me, your proximity to the closest distribution center for any particular store will determine how quickly your area gets items.
Of course there's really no rhyme or reason as to why some stores get more of a particular item than others, it's not as if store managers actually know what's in the cases they get from dist. centers. It's all about how much of a particular kind of item is in stock at a store that determines how much of that kind of item they get from the dist. center.
-
Retail and their distribution sucks... I was a manager for 3+ years and it was the stupidist thing I've ever done.
I'm hoping to find some more VOTC Stormies too, but it doesn't look too promising. :(
:P
-
I just ordered 5 VOTC Stormtroopers and a couple other items a www.bigbadtoystore.com.
All orders over $60.00 qualify for 15% discount if you order before noon Friday.
:P

He shoots he scores!
Tonight I went out for New Year's Eve, and all we basically did was go out for dinner and have some beers. We were done right away so I said, "Hey, wanna run up Route 8 to Wal-Mart" and she went right along with it...
OK, so I got 3 old Saga figures for $3 each for customizing... Then I said, "Hey, wanna run up the Turnpike to Cranberry now?" and she said, "OK" so we were off to another stop... Target had just closed (dammit, what store closes at 10? Pfft), so we went to the Wal-Mart then which is 24 hours...
SCORE! 4 VOTC Stormtroopers for $7. They had one Fett I left and some ESB figures too (Vaders, Yodas, and Landos). Not a single other ROTJ than the 4 Stormies and Fett, which is odd, because it means someone (or multiple people) were in and got the Chewies, R2's, the other Fett's, etc... And left 4 Stormtroopers. Weird, but lucky for me.
The army is at 19 for me. Now I want at least one more for an even 20. ;D
-
Nice work - there was an out of the way Walmart that as of a little over a week ago had about 7 more stormtroopers collecting dust... I think i'll go down at lunch tomorrow on the off chance that they're still there.
-
I bought every stormtrooper I saw. They were here for a grand total of four days at retail and have not reappeared since. Never mind clearance prices. :-\
-
Yeah really, I wish I could find some more at those clearance prices. Every one that I've bought was at full price :(
-
Up till the other night I had seen 2 total at retail. Got the rest in trades and from Matt. Not abundant here, but those 4 I found I personally think are stock that's been sitting in the back of WM for a time, ya know?
It's like the ANH wave clogged them up so much the other stuff came in, but never saw the floor till now. I know that when the Falcon Carrying Cases came out, there was no room for them on the shelves and then they got dumped out on an endcap within the store for clearance because they were old. At the time I gobbled up all that I could for the scanner techs and sold the cases off as fodder junk for cheap.
-

I guess I just live in a good area for them... for every 3 I bought, I left 2 on the pegs - and I have 35. I bought them over the course of probably 6 or 7 weeks and saw them quite regularly.
And Paul managed to find a similar amount in the same basic area. They were pretty much everywhere. Not Orn-Free-Taa-everywhere, but certainaly abundant.
-
My army will be at around 22 when I get a shipment of them in from www.bigbadtoystore.com this week. Plus about 150 CT Stormies and my Imperials are in pretty good shape. Not the biggest army in the galaxy, but definitely a lot of fun.
:P
-
I found 4 today on clearance for $5.00 each. Which puts me at 39.
-
Damnit Zod!!!! ;D
:P
-
Can't possibly pass one of these guys up at a price like that - I'd been to the exact Walmart I just found these in 5 days ago and they had NOTHING. Today they had two full cases of the ROTJ wave - just put out, and all 50% off. It makes me wonder if other Walmarts in my area are getting them in.
-
Scored a couple more of these. $7 at WalMart & $4.92 at Target. Gotta love the clearance aisle!
-
Scored a couple more of these. $7 at WalMart & $4.92 at Target. Gotta love the clearance aisle!
Ooh, score some more, I'll always take those in trade for the good Mr. Leetch.
-
damn you all are extremely lucky, my area has been void of clearance VOTC for almost 2 weeks now. the targets are only getting in the Prequel Post-OTC while the walmart is only getting the clone wars figs. damn the distributors!! ;D
-
Here's a pic of my Tantive IV scene, with a few VOTC and CT Stormtroopers in it. I tried painting the helmets a bit to make them more detailed where they should be (like the breathing nozzels), and even put a CT Stormtrooper helmet on a VOTC Stormie in the backgroud. Just trying to make them blend in together better. I'm sure Jesse will cringe when he sees the Fleet Trooper... ;)
And thanks again DIMETRODON for hosting this and many other images! :)
:P
-
Well, he's dead at least...
We can always just say a really tough stormtrooper punched him in the chest and caved it in. That's why it looks like it does. :)
His helmet sticking to his head, even when dead, will always be an enigma though.
-
That's a great set-up. Really nice.
I still have only 4. :(
-
That's a great set-up. Really nice.
I still have only 4. :(
Thanks. Do you only have 4 total Stormtroopers, or VOTC ones? The CT one still is a great figure IMO.
I'll try to get better detailed shots of the scene soon with more Fleet Troops dying for Jesse. :)
:P
-
CHEWIE, you don't like the POTJ gun?
-
That's a great set-up. Really nice.

Thanks. Do you only have 4 total Stormtroopers, or VOTC ones? The CT one still is a great figure IMO.
Only 4 VOTC. I have 2 builder packs and a few CTs. Yeah, they're still decent for set-ups and dioramas. But they're not much to look at compared to the new one!
-
Same here, Ook. I have 4 VOTCs, and a few from POTF2 ( :-X). I need to get a few more VOTC and some CT ones...
-
CHEWIE, you don't like the POTJ gun?
Not really... I realize the POTF2 version is overscaled, but the POTJ/SAGA ones don't seem to fit in the hands of the CT Stormtrooper... and since I have over 100 of the CT version, I don't want to have some Stormtroopers with mini blasters and others with biggie blasters. So, I'm trying to stick with the POTF2 guns for the Stormtroopers. It kind of looks silly though when having the VOTC Leia hold a POTF2 gun. :)
If some how I could load up on about 100 VOTC Stormtroopers for cheap, I'd convert over to the other guns. But as it stands, I'm sticking with the old version.
:P
-
I just picked up another at TRU, bringing my total to 7. :)
-
Just picked up 2 more at TRU.
41 Loose
1 Carded
-
Damn! 42 Stormie's! All I still have is 2 carded.
-
And I left one on the shelf today too. :)
-
Just picked up 2 more at TRU.
41 Loose
1 Carded
:o
-
I'm maxed at 21 it seems. These just aren't showing up anymore here sadly. My 21st I got at a KB and it seemed as though it possibly had been there a while on top of that so I'm not even counting it as a recently put out figure.
Felt bad paying the mark-up but I bit the bullet on that one.
Be nice to nab more at the better $9-$10 price or (yeah right) WM clearance prices. WM made short work of all its VOTC. Even the first level of clearances to $7 pretty much wiped all VOTC out around here.
-
Yeah I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world when I bought 5 or 6 one day for $7.00 each at Target - then I got even luckier when I found 4 of them for $5.00 each at Walmart...
The clearance thing seems to be about over unless TRU decides to clearance some stuff out - in the meantime, they seem to be the only ones still getting ANY votc. And now that I've passed 40, I can't help but sit here thinking 50 would be a really nice round number to shoot for...
-
Geez, and I was pleased to be getting them at $10 CAD (about $8 US). I think I managed to tie Jesse after all, though I paid the full retail on more than a few. But that price is just crazy.
Sadly I have yet to even open one :-\ IMpending move (some time in the next 12 month anyway) makes me want to leave them carded. For now.
-
Wow, 42, that's a heck of an army of a really nice figure. Good job with that. I have....2, but I'm happy to have those. Not much VOTC left around here anymore, aside from a couple of Landos and Leias at TRU I believe. Everything else has been clearanced and sold.
-
KBZ can vouch for me as he saw my army grow on another site, but I have 43.
Luckily, some were gifts, some were from sales, some were on clearance and some were from trades.
-
I'm still looking for these but they're all gone in my neck of the woods I guess.
I'd like a couple more... even one more. They truly are like crack. I wound up with a modest group, but if I could amass 100 of these, I gladly would.
-
2. One carded, one loose. I've never really been an army-builder. But I must say, this is definitely the most fun I've had posing my few loose figures. :)
-
Got one today, woohoo! :) A lone troop on the pegs at TRU here. Wish I'd found his case-mates, but alas there was only a couple Fett's lingering (among ESB figs). No other Stormies.
If anyone's finding extras, and they're wanting to sell, by all means contact me. I'd like to get some more if I can find them. I've got a modest group compared to some of you guys and would like to have at least a few more to fill out the ranks.
-
My TRU has been restocking these over the last month. Found another couple today but left them. Still at $10 ea.
-
I've only got one carded right now :'(.
-
I've only got one carded right now :'(.
I was gonna post that I have 4 and add a sad smiley, you got me beat.
-
15 and I'm gonna stop there likely. It's EIII clone time, and I'm up to 40 of those.
-
Dressel, 40 Clones is fantastic. You are well on your way to an army over 100... I want to see your Clone Army attacking your Dresselian outpost... post pics of this in the customs section! :)
:P

:P
What do you think of this fiasco with the Target 12.99 clone with the red markings on the armor? (Looks like I'll keep amassing clone #6's for customs!)
-
I'm just going to pick up one or two of the Target ones and stick to the 5 dollar kind for building. I'm skipping out on building with #6 though. AT TE gunners, Pilots, Commanders, and SA Clones for me...
-
I'm working towards 20 Clones #6 now.
Working on my wookies getting a nice army going too. I want a few squads of wookie troops.
The exclusive Target Clone's got me worried. I gotta make sure I'm up and at 'em for that.
The 3-pack (evolutions assortment) is fan-frickin-tastic guys. We have good pictures, but that whole series is something to see in person to truly appreciate. VOTC quality all over the place... The Clone/Stormie set has me so worried though. That's something I'd plunk a LOT of cash down on, but it's a matter of FINDING those sets. :(
My VOTC Stormies are at 22 after a late purchase the other day at TRU then... I'd love to have made it to 40 with those though. That's about a landing craft or AT-AT's worth of troops. Seems unlikely I'll get that # going though.
-

Oh, it sucks royally. What a kick in the nuts!
I am gonna try and get a few though. Clone #6 is damn good however. I have about 20 of them.
:P

The race is back on...
I found my first VOTC Stormie in months today at Toys R Us - 42 loose now and 1 carded.
-
Its not there now, but I've seen some available at Amazon recently: VOTC Stormtrooper - not currently in stock (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00021Z1NS/qid%3D1101131693/sr%3D2-2/ref%3Dpd%5Fka%5Fb%5F2%5F2/102-6048259-1843309)
I guess they are popping up like they are at TRUs.
-
In an aboslutely amazing coinsidence, I finally bought another one today as well. I have one higher than KBZ. :P
-
I found another Stormie on Saturday at TRU. Having one of those coupons, I couldn't resist. Now I am up to 44.
-
I finally broke down and picked up a few more of these via a trade.
My total is now 4 loose and 1 carded. :)
OK, so maybe 4 isn't as cool as 40+ like some of you fellas, but it works for me. ;)
Jeff

I've been keeping an eye out at TRU's since I found that one a few weeks ago - haven't seen another one since.
-
I'm somewhere around 20 loose and 10 carded, I need to open 9 of those carded ones.
:P
-
I have 25 after a tally tonight... I scored 2 not TOO long ago at TRU which were greatly appreciated. I'd dig 5 more for 30 (I've found myself say that same sentence with different #'s in place of 5 and 30 quite a few times now). I'd love 40... That's a transport's worth (AT, Sentinel, etc.) and would be my ideal total. ;D
-
I found one more today. I'm sitting on 43 now. Shooting for 50.
-
The countdown continues! Found another one today - 44 so far.
-
Sheesh Rob... Nice collection amassed so far. I wish I could find more but I've not had luck as of late. 25's a lot more than I had initially rationed to myself... 15 more atualy.
I'm a weak person I guess.
40 would make me very happy though, especially after seeing pics of 40 + lined up... Oh man that's just a sweet action figure!
-
Yeah. I'm a little mad at myself for this new area of the hobby that I've gotten into since that figure hit... I've now got around $350 spent on VOTC Stormies (some were bought on clearance and a few were gifts)... I've also got roughly $500.00 worth of assorted clones sitting on my counter (just photographed them - pictures coming soon...)
Expensive, but fun. I'm trying to ween myself down though. The goal is 50 Stormtroopers, but the REAL goal is to stop once I eventually get there.
So far I haven't bought any more SA Clones since I got to 50, but I can already feel the temptation starting back up...
-
I have 0. Do I get some kind of prize? ;)
Really I'm just too cheap--I hesitate to pay $10 for a clamshell and a figure when I can get a reasonably adequate non-SA equivalent for $5 or so.
Probably someday I'll get one loose or on clearance. No particular rush though.
-

You can do it....I kicked the monkey off my back at 50....of course I will now need at least 20 of the Evolutions Sandtrooper.....I'm going to go the Ent Earth route and just buy cases and sell the EP II clones.
-
I only have 2 VOTC Stormtroopers, but wish I had more. I only found one at retail, and picked up another via Amazon, and I just couldn't afford to keep ordering them online for $10-$11 plus shipping. Hopefully we'll see them make another sort of release in the future, maybe in an evolutions set (with a new SA Snowtrooper and Scout Trooper, how cool would that be?), or in some other way. Definitely an excellent figure.
-
I just found my first one this weekend. :-\

Make sure you talk to me when you start unloading those EII Clones.
-
More Stormtroopers for the collection... I got these last week actually on a tip from my local collecting bud, Dave. He let me know 4 VOTC Stormies were just waiting on me to get the time to make the trek to the famed Monroeville Mall (home of where they shot Dawn of the Dead, and our tri-annual Toy Show). I popped off at the Toys R Us and nabbed them, though I think I was just lucky though that nobody else beat me to them.
It's a busy area just outside the city... I had to go to Lowe's anyway so it put me in the area, but it was a little later in the day. I was concerned.
4 replacements to the squads. Great... Funny that TRU STILL is putting VOTC out. Gotta run a sale to unload those Yoda's and Lando's now though. :-\
-
You should see our TRU VOTC pegs - 12 Landos - that's it.
:o
-
The ones I hit probably have 12 or more Lando's and as many Yoda's. That's every store... These seem to be the casemates these Stormies come with I think.
-
Not much VOTC up here these days but I can find the following:
Lando
Yoda
Obi
Luke
Han
Leia
All at their full, regular price of $17.07 CAD after taxes ::) >:(
It's really very sad, stormtroopers showed up at retail and lasted precisely four days. No subsequent orders showed up. Ironically it was when TRU put them "on-sale" for $10 CAD and I price matched every damn one I could find. I spent about 7 hours going to every store carrying them and I still only ended up with 20. I did manage to get three full sets of VOTC though and I have some extra 3PO's, Boba's and I think one spare Vader. Shoulda bought more Vader.
-
I wish I could pick up some more of those VOTC Stormies as well, but the VOTC line in general is pretty well dried up around here. TRU is the only store that still has them, and that is just Lando and maybe a Yoda or two. I ended up with a grand total of two, and I really hope to see these re-released in some fashion in the future...hopefully near future :).
-
I only have 1 loose. because they are too hard to find around my area.
-
I am up to 6; I originally grabed 2 so I could have 1 in and 1 out of package. Then when I was picking up my TRU exclusive Anakin Starfighter I saw that they had 4 in stock and purchased those to add to my Stormtrooper Army.
-
I was able to score a couple at a Family Dollar store for $5.00 each... I need to recount my army.
:P
-
Nice score!
Wish I could find a couple for $5.00.... :'(
-
I was able to score a couple at a Family Dollar store for $5.00 each... I need to recount my army.
:P
Nice find, but could you have found a shittyer store? I used to work there, and they really suck. The managers basicly rape the employees on breaks, and so on. Plus half the stuff will arive broken, and the employees will get blamed. It's happened to a bunch of people in this state.
Kevin
-
Nice find CHEWIE. And Kevin I'm sorry to hear about your experiences at Family Dollar. You need to be more forceful when you say no. Unless you weren't saying no... :-*
I'm still stuck at 2 Loose 1 carded. :-\ I really want to find some of these for cheap. I guess if you count the 2 Sandtroopers from the Evo sets I got tonight, :D I'm at 4.
-
I've only got one carded right now :'(.
I was gonna post that I have 4 and add a sad smiley, you got me beat.
Still four...
-
I've got one carded. I wish I would have been able to get more, but they hardly showed in my area...or if they did, somebody got to them first. I managed to pick up a second one at one point, but traded it for a bunch of old spaceships that are becoming my custom ship project.
-
I checked out our closest Family Dollar this past weekend, but unfortunately they didn't have any Star Wars figures on hand. There are a few more around town, so maybe I'll have to check those out. I certainly wouldn't mind picking up a few more VOTC Stormtroopers, although I'm sure those are the first to go. They did have some nice deals though, the old Batman TAS figures for $3 each, and some single carded GI Joes for $2.
-
I went to every Family Dollar store I could find and didn't see any Stormtroopers...
So I'm still stuck at 44 and shooting for 50.
-
I've been hitting the ones near me and short of Leia and Obi-Wan, I haven't seen much since I found R2/3PO & Chewie one day a while back.
I'll keep checking though and get extras of stuff I know (or think) that people actually want.
-
I counted the other day when I was organizing my figures and I have 8 loose VOTC Stormies ;D
-
I only got 5 :(
-
1 :-[ At $9.99, combined with all the things I spend my money on, I don't want to get more than 1. If I ever see them on clearance, I'll be all over it though.
-
1 carded and 2 loose
-
1 MOC and that took long enough to get.
-
Still 0. :(
-
0, the only OT Stormie I have is the CommTech one. But I have 2 PT Stormies. ;)
-
Woohoo upto 5
4 loose and 1 carded
-
after reducing the numbers I had earlier, I am now at 26 (down from a high of 50).
-
*gasp*
You reduced and didn't call me, Paul!? :)
-
You know, being that the VOTC stormtrooper was so hard to find at retail and we all loved it so, I think the figure would make a great EE exclusive. Before you burn me at the stake, let me explain:
A.) Keep the price the same as the clone trooper pack - a win for both sides - we get a $10 figure for a little less and EE/Hasbro maintains their profit margin.
B.) Offer four sets, similar to last time.
1.) Stormtrooper set - clean deco
2.) Stormtrooper set - dirty deco (blast marks?)
3.) Sandtrooper set - clean deco, 1 each of four colored pauldrons
4.) Sandtrooper set - dirty deco, 1 each of four colored pauldrons
Bad idea?
-

*Sigh* No.
-
I have a Evo Sandtrooper, does that count? If so, then one so far.
-
Added one today... I gotta do a recount on these, but my buddy sold me an extra he had at our local get-together so I've managed to get a replacement in for one the platoon's casualties. Love this figure... hate the price.
-
Of the VOTC only (not counting sandtroopers and such) I have 9 loose and 1 carded.
-
I have 1 :-[. It's the only one I found at retail too. I'd LOVE to get at least 10 of them on my shelf but the price for them at this point is too rich for my blood. Hopefully EE or someone else does put an army builder pack together with these.
-
haha your not the only one Ray, 1 for me too :-[
-
1 carded and 3 loose.
-
*gasp*
You reduced and didn't call me, Paul!? :)
Me either. ;)
If you downsize again to 24 (I know you're tempted given the whole squads of 12 thing) let me know. I'm looking for 6 more to round out at 50. 8)
-
I almost had one on eBay, I got screwed over.
I payed 40$ for one, and then he started sending me e-mails telling me that was the easiest 40$ he had ever made, well I lost 2 allowances there...hmph.
-
Did you actually pay him after he started taunting you like that? That was pretty low on his part.
-
He started taunting me after he got the money.
-
After long last, I was able to buy some more, for $5 a peice too. 3 more for a current total of 48.
-
I only have two, would love to have more like everyone else.
But don't be misled, it's not as perfect as it could be!

Agreed. However, I think if they tweeked it, the VOTC version woud still hold up well. I've found a few really good poses, but I have most of mine simply standing at attention, which is how I would have most of my figures anyway.
I would rescuplt the hands and add VOTC Luke hip articulation. I think that would make the figure perfect. What are your thoughts?
-
I went forever without finding this guy, but everyone else in that wave. Then over the course of just about 2 short weeks at Target, I scored 6 on 2 separate occasions and then I found 2 a couple times. Then when it seemed that no more were being put out on the shelves, I found about 3 more at Toys 'R' Us.
So I think I have about 19.
I never saw them at KMart, Walmart, or KB Toys.

I'm all about scale and that helmet just seems off in size and detail.

-
Yeah, the helmet is a bit small. :P
-
None still. The one I ordered from eBay never arrived... >:(
-
Yeah, all the pics I've seen of the VOTC Stormie make it look like it has a bit of a cone head thing going on and the eyes look buggy. However, I have not seen one personally, so I really don't know what I'm talking about. :P
-
Are they hard to find?
I saw one last sunday but I got Boba Fett instead.
-
Now they are but the line's been done for a while. How hard or easy to find they were depended on how often you went out, what stores you hit, when you hit them, and also just how lucky (or unlucky) your region turned out to be.
For instance I know Rob's seen shitloads of them at his local shopping treks, but for me I didn't see so many. I really lucked out when I found a passel of them for $7 each at an area Wal-Mart once, but it was only like 7 or so, not a lot...
I saw them a few times at Toys R Us but in no huge quantity. At most I think I saw 4 at one TRU once.
Target I don't recall seeing any... I got most of mine at TRU, then a handful at WM, and the rest I've traded for online. I got one at KB too in an act of desperation for more.
For my area they were NOT common. Nor was the Evolutions line. These items were not shipped heavily up here at all. Even the local scalpers don't have these things in abundance it seems.
-
Tell me about it, Canada is not really so great collecting wise.
-
I broke the 50 mark! Thanks to a trade with a very cool guy at RS, I got three more, bringing me to 51. Big thanks to Darth Slothus for the assist. I traded him the 501sts I got from you at our bowling thing. :D
-
I kind of agree that the head on the VOTC Stormtrooper seems a bit small... I think that in ANH they were bigger, and got scaled down some for ESB a bit and quite a bit more in ROTJ. I've been thinking about trying to get a ton of the Bust Up helmets somehow to make my ANH Stormtroopers look like their helmets are bigger... I recently used those Bust Up helmets on some Clone trooper bodies, and here's what they looked like.
:P
-
I had an unusual VOTC Stormie find at a Target yesterday. At $1.36, I couldn't resist, so now I'm at 52.
-
Damn you sir. >:(
Why doesn't stuff like that happen to me? Am I that much of a jerk that Karma has bit me in the ass?
-
I finally have ONE. Got it off of eBay, and I find it perfect. Now I want more... ;D
-
I think I might go out to the market and get one tomorrow!
-
I have a total of 5 now. Woo hoo! ;D
-
Hooray!
I might get one today, but 27$ is expensive when I can get a couple of clone troopers and a Jango Fett.
-
i don't have any. been out of the loop for awhile. :'(
-
Damn you sir. >:(
Why doesn't stuff like that happen to me? Am I that much of a jerk that Karma has bit me in the ass?
I second that.>:(
I hardly even saw any ROTS stuff on clearance. You sir are one lucky bastard.
-
Chewie- those clone bodies with the bust-up helmets are fantastic! I think Hasbro should buy their helmets from Gentle Giant for the upcoming Lucas stormtrooper, that POTF 2 hat is a joke at this point in the line.- Unfortunately that plan would result in a quality product, violating some company policy I'm sure.
-
Unfortunately that plan would result in a quality product, violating some company policy I'm sure.
Yes...yes it would.
The policy of...
237 B:
No product must be of the following all together:
-Super Super Articulate
-Good paint applications
-Great accesories
If this code is violated the punishment is death by being drowned in melted plastic.
:P
Hasbro cant make a perfect figure.
But whenever they do they are always terribly hard to find and you would have to go over about 200 people on the internet just to find one.
-

Pilot Obi-Wan warmed the pegs for months here. And I'd say he is a perfect figure, or about as close as we will ever get.
-
Yeah, but I suppose it warmed the pegs due to the fact that the rubber cloak hid most of his articulate features.
-
I am now up to 7 ;D.
-
In my area Obi-Wan backed up too, however that wave shipped REAL heavy too... That was teh wave that was shipping into September/October around here, so stores were getting deluged with Obi's, AT-RT Pilots, and SA Clones right at the build up to the holidays...
By the time November was here they were dwindling... By the time Black Friday was here the Clones were all but gone and Obi-Wan you'd see 2 or 3 but never a ton...
That was my neck of the woods anyway. I didn't see clearance of a single basic figure this past year. Not one. Not even Neimoidians who were en masse at Target and just up and vanished, much less the RT Pilots and Obi-Wans who were gone before Christmas even came.
Steady sales of tons of figures like that, that's great.
Now you could find, right up till Christmas, the kicking Obi-Wan... I think people spoke with their wallets what they liked better. ;)
-
Woooo!
I got my hands on a VOTC Stormtrooper!
It is awesome, I totally enjoy this figure.
Does anybody know if the holster is supposed to actually work?
-
The holster works, kind of. You can wiggle the blaster in, it's designed to hold it. However, it's a bad design IMO and not really usefull.
-
Oh well, still a great design.
-
Yeah Hasbro busted the holster up pretty much. Ironically, the Veers figure's holster is pretty much what you'd want... P roblem there is that they cheated with it, and it is hollow on the opposite side and the skirt covers it perfectly... Can't do that on the Stormie.
Hasbro COULD do a better holster on Stormies... I'm alright with the VOTC one but it's not really a holster like we'd all want.
-
Well its a perfect stormie other-wise, I dont really see why we have to nit-pick it because really if hasbro did make it bigger it would look like a black card board box hooked onto a belt.
-
I disagree that they couldn't have done the holster better. It's within their ability to do thin flexible plastic, so thin flexible plastic in a holster shape isn't impossible... Given the tiny holsters I've seen in other toylines (BBI's Elite Force, etc.), I think Hasbro was just trying to cut back on some effort really more than anything... or they felt they weren't capable of doing it better, or that this was a compromise for people who'd rather not display it holstered or anything. I dunno.
The figure's fine though I agree. I use the holsters on mine... They're there, and I'm either growing more tolerant in my old age or I just didn't care enough. It holds a blaster, just not well, so I use it when displaying my Stormtroopers.
In all honesty though, there weren't Stormies seen with holsters throughout the trilogy so I'm ok with VOTC's without holsters if Hasbro were to put the figure back out on the market. :) I'd live with that quite nicely.
-
Really? ???
I thought a few stormies had holsters, wierd. :P
-
Really? ???
I thought a few stormies had holsters, wierd. :P
They did. Jesse was saying that it wasn't consistant though. Sometimes they had the holster, sometimes they didn't.
-
Yeah... In ANH they had them throughout for the most part... It's pretty much an ANH thing.
In Empire I don't recall seeing Stormtroopers with holsters off-hand... Not regular Stormtroopers anyway. The ones on Hoth had a holster on the kama's but the ones on Bespin I don't believe had any holsters.
The ROTJ Stormtroopers, for the most part, didn't have holsters... I think some can be seen sporatically on troop's belts aboard the Death Star when they're in formation for Palpatine or Vader... NOt many though, and I don't recall any on Endor wearing them, but I'm not positive.
A holsterless Stormie wouldn't bug me for sure... I just want this figure to be available to buy at reasonable prices and in good quantities.
-
Well, I got a stormie for 27$ :o Hefty price but I couldnt be more happy seeing as I havent gotten a stormtrooper since 1995 this one is a great improvement over the buff stormies on steroids.
-
I totally relate, Clone Commander. I have yet to dish out for a VOTC stormtrooper, myself...
However, by some weird twist of luck our Wal Mart had a few Clonetroopers Evolutions sets- fashionably late, this was last month- on clearance! I have no idea why because I never saw them out anywhere; knowing Wal Mart, they kept them in some stupid place nowhere near the figures and then wondered why they didn't sell good.
But the plus side of this was that I picked up two boxes for $15, and I was pretty happy at that. The Sandtrooper rocks (I apparently got the middle set, with the yellow uniforms and the sprayed-on sand rather than the smeary crud), and sad to admit I never bought a clone before then either!
So my totally amazing army consists of one loose Sandtrooper with the pauldron removed (are the heads supposed to pop off and on that easily on these figures? I did it by hand accidentally the first time, and it stays on pretty well when popped back on), one in abox, and two POTF2 Stormtroopers (one with playwear). Likewise, I have four clones total.
I toyed with the idea of modifying one of the Sandtroopers but that just doesn't seem right. I aim to get at least one VOTC Stormtrooper eventually, and fill the ranks a little more with some more POTFs and maybe commtech ones.
Since that's kinda pathetic, I count my two POTF2 Tie Pilots in with my stormtroopers, so my empire has 6 troops! Yay! And the Grand Army of the Republic is an army of 4.
Then again, the Empire looks a whole lot more impressive when it's got 2 and a half ("quick change!' y'know) Vaders in it, no?
Of course, I don't own a single snowtrooper or scout trooper :( I need to get a VTSC Scout Trooper in stores if at all possible, as I really love those guys; they're really my favorite kind of stormtrooper, actually.
-
The heads on the sandtroopers tend to pop off easy Mitsukara.
Well so far I am up to 3 VOTC Stormies!!!
I got 2 the other day.
-
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Sandtroopers heads are made to pop off so you can remove their pauldron (you have to pull a little bit but it pops off and back on without any damage as far as I can tell) and thus make them into "stormtroopers," which would make sense considering the box identifies them as such. I've actually tried my loose one both ways for a while, but they're not quite right for stormtroopers since the stuff on their belts is wrong and of course, they're covered in sand (or in the smeared figures' cases, perhaps another word not entirely dissimlar to "sand'...).
-
I've done the same thing Mitsukara. In the end, I just kept those with my sandtrooper squad.
-
Yeah I've dont that for a while.
-
I'm happy to announce I finally obtained my very first VOTC Stormie. I'm keeping it locked up in the packaging for now, but if I should ever happen to get another, it's gonna be popped out of that package faster than...well, it probably won't be that fast because of those stupid double bubbles, but it'll eventually be loose. :P
-
You have quite the dilemma on your hands. That figure is too nice to keep boxed up yet the packaging is too nice to tear open!
:P
-
I tore into is like mad!
I couldnt stand it in its SA goodness! ;D
-
Yeah, it's hard to resist opening that figure, but I think I'm a little conditioned/trained not to open anything even slightly resembling vintage packaging. ;)
-
I picked up one more last night, loose for $5 at that local dealer shop. Up to 52.

I planned to stop at 50, but, $5 for a VOTC stormie ($1.25 for #51), it's kinda hard to let it go when you see it.

Definately, I would be the same way. You must show a pic of all your Stormies together. ;D
-
So...
How should we handle the VOTC body on the Sandtrooper. Since the dirt can be removed, will this ad to this particular count?
Also, I posted pictures of my Imperial base in the customs section. About half of my VOTC stormies are pictured.
-
I'm going to say no Anton, they don't count... Just for sake of moderation really, but ultimately they are unique figures... Keeping your tally in the Sandtrooper thread would be great though, and counting alongside it your tally of VOTC Stormies would be fine I think?
Since they are separate though I'd keep them separate... I do anyway. I got my first 2 Sandies tonight actually, 2 more on the way from a local friend too, so I'm up to 4 in the span of 2 days.
Now to find many more. :)
-
Their thermal detonator comes off (Sandy). That makes them a different figure, right? :P
-
That, the belt's different, the paintjob, the pauldron, the gaps in the back too... I consider them different. Great, but different.
-
Well in that case I'm still stuck on 44 - looking for 6 more.
-
Special thanks to Paul - he traded me 6 more, so I've reached 50.
-
Congrats Rob!
-
Thanks Anton.
I haven't been able to stop....
23 now.
Pics, Pics! I'd love to see all those lined up.
Update picture for the hell of it... even though it's not current now because of the 6 more from last week.

Nice photo. How do you keep your figures clean?

Click the picture and it's all semi-explained in there. :)
-
Somehow I had lost a stormie in a recount, but just found him the other day. I'm back at 52.
-
Just received number 53 in a trade.
-
Picked up two more from a dealer's shop for $5 each. Up to 55.
-
Add 4 more from a trade I'm up to 59. I'll definitely cap it at 64.
-
I'm still at 2: one carded, one loose. :D
-
o ;D
-
My numbers of these are rapidly dropping... being replaced by the Tantive IV Stormie...
:P

I'm having a brainfart - what's the difference between the two? I know the Tantive one is an Evolutions Sandtrooper repaint... ???

Evo has a wider stance, no torso joint and no holster. It has two pouches on the belt instead.

Thanks Anthony. I wasn't sure about the presence of the torso joint. :)

I was wondering the same thing.

Yeah... I did get rid of some recently, did list them here in the forums but they sold very fast. I also went the evil route and put a lot of them on ebay... I'm going to be not working for a bit in June (baby coming) and won't be getting paid and need to get my Paypal account up some to make sure I can pay bills.
:P
-
Got 5 more, so that brings me to my final total of 64.
If I find anymore at my local dealer shop, I'll pick them up for trade bait. I wont be actively looking for any more.
-
2 dozen
-
This is an old thread... I managed to get two of them for a couple bucks each at the local Toy Show in October. Pretty good deal I figured.
-
Ressurrection time!
I scored 3 recently as part of a lot I purchased, bringing my total to 6. This is definitely my favorite Stormtrooper ever made, definitive, IMO.
-
Aren't they discolored though? I've not seen many VOTC without discoloring of some kind on the limbs in quite some time now.
-
No, none of my VOTC Stormtroopers are discolored (knock on wood). I guess I've been lucky. On the other hand, I've noticed a couple of my TAC Stormtroopers have started to have some discoloration in the torso area.
-
Yeah the generic clone head one didn't hold up great. That figure, in general, has a lot of flaws. The helmet sits poorly and isn't the better sculpt out there. The limbs, particularly the legs, weren't always even on that figure, now some discoloration... Not a favorite of mine.
My favorites are these:
-Spacetrooper... A nice, simple, generic Stormtrooper ultimately, with gear to make him that scene-specific trooper if you want.
-Clean Sandtrooper... That first black pauldroned Sandtrooper they didn't put any deco on is definitely a favorite of mine. the sculpt is top notch, he has the removable bomb, all the extra "field trooper" gear like the pack, pike, and pauldron... short of having the long rifle, he's pretty perfect to me, as Stormtrooper army builders go. No removable helmet, but I'm ok with that on Stormtroopers sometimes since so many WITH them do exist.
-Newer clean Sandtroopers... I like the newer one from Vintage Collection. Not the new new one with the dirty paint, but the old new one that's clean. At $5 a pop at 5 Below I went pretty nuts picking those up. I like the extra gear, the extra articulation. I liked that one a lot too.
I'd give a runner-up to the Tantive IV pack Trooper and any incarnation of it since its initial release. I like the uniqueness of it for some reason. Good figure. It's not a great generic Sandtrooper but it's nice.
-
My favorite Stormtrooper is the one that came with the Target Special Action figure 3-pks... same as the TVC Sandtrooper essentially, but the 3-pk version seemed to have better paint jobs, much better belts, and no yellowing anywhere to speak of. At least in my experience. I don't know if I even have any VOTC Stormies left, I traded/sold them off... and gave some to my son.
-
Do TAC Stormtroopers count? I remember picking these guys up for about $2.25 each during the infamous Target Knollwood sale.
I counted all of mine up and apparently I have exactly...enough. ;)
-
Awesome army...
I passed on that Stormie though because I can't stand the helmet...
...that helmet is such a letdown. I still can't believe Hasbro used it.
-
I got about 4 more VOTC Stormies when they were rereleased in Saga Legends in 2011. My VOTC ones are still holding up alright but the torsos are just slightly kinda yellowing... same with my AOTC SA Clones and a few VTSC Biker Scouts. All a little "off" in the torso now.
My TSC Commander Cody has yellowed the worse though, it looks exactly like a Vintage figure from the 80's
-
You just have to put those yellowy figures in the darker corners of your room. ;)
-

I have the same criticisms of the TAC Stormtrooper. If I'm correct, I think I have 5 TAC Stormtroopers in my collection, and haven't had the desire to acquire any more than that.
Of the favorites you mentioned, the figure I've used for army building lately has been the VC "clean" Sandtrooper. All you do is pop off the shoulder pauldron and put aside the backpack thingy, and presto. I have like 10 of them and they display just fine.
I have a few of the TLC Spacetroopers, and would love to have a few more. I really love the Tantive IV pack Stormtrooper and have like 4 of them. Would love to add another 10. The sculpt is based on the VOTC version, no?
-
The Tantive IV Stormie is a really nice figure, but doesn't have an articulated waist - I think it's based on the Evolutions Sandtrooper mold, or pretty close. I like it more than the VOTC mold.
-
The Tantive IV Trooper came first, and I believe the Evo Sandtroopers were based off it then, but the belt on them was different perhaps? I can't recall now and my Empire's tucked away at the moment.
I have probably a lot of the 30AC Stormtrooper with the lopsided legs, but I got them insanely cheap. I couldn't pass them up for $1, $2, or $3... I have a lot of basically every Imperial in white because of sales and clearances back at that time. Really went nuts.
-
Evo Stormtroopers were from 2005, and Tantive IV battle pack was from 2007. I think the belts were the same, but I never owned the EVO clone to stormtrooper sets, just the Tantive trooper and the sandtrooper legends figure reissued from the Evo set.
-
Ah ok, so I got that reversed. Can't believe they were still shilling that ****** Vader and RFT's in 2007.
-
Ah ok, so I got that reversed. Can't believe they were still shilling that ****** Vader and RFT's in 2007.
Over-shilling. Remember, they stuck them in a comic pack together.
-
I know, dismal choices on figures. Those Marvel sets were dismal choices on comic packs but basically pure profit I suppose, for them. Still, bad choices on the paintjobs at the very least. I got the idea, but the execution was just bad. I know a less comic-ish deco would've persuaded me on probably the Mandalorian sets at least.
-
Yeah, the lack of waist articulation is somewhat of a bummer, but it displays nicely in a statue-esque kinda way.
-
I actually didn't mind the waist joint missing. That's a joint that I can take or leave on at least 50% of action figures honestly. It's nicer on troopers, but beyond them I'm not so sure.
And honestly I'd prefer less ball jointed torsoes in this line. They're more complex and costly, and just not something I'm wild about.
