Title: Saga 2004 - Predictions
Post by: Brian on July 10, 2003, 10:53 AM
Although the majority of us still haven't found the 2003 figures, I thought it might be fun to predict what we might see in 2004...using what knowledge/rumors we have heard, as well as Hasbro's past tendencies.  There are a few figures which we are pretty sure we know we are getting: Jedi Luke, the Fan's Choice winners, Jabba the Hutt?, and some others that I am probably forgetting...but what do you personally think we could see.  Following the pattern of having the main characters have a version each year, we might be able to break down which version we might see.  For example...

Luke Skywalker:
--We just had an X-Wing version in POTJ, as well as Bacta Tank.  We had a Stormtrooper version (although scene-specific) this year.  We had a Bespin version in Saga, as well as an upcoming rehash of a Tatooine version.  There is also a re-release of the POTF2 Hoth Luke on tap for this year in one of the figure packs.  We are getting a Jedi one this year, and another (hopefully ultimate) version next year some time.  That might be the Luke we get next year, other possibilities include Dagobah and Endor (although I doubt we'll see two from ROTJ in the same year)

Han Solo:
--Well, we have the commtech one re-released this year, a Hoth version this year, an Endor version (without the coat) last year, and a great Bespin version from POTJ.  We also had the stormtrooper version from the screen scene (although scene-specific).  One version I could think of that might be a possibility is a carbonite Han, with the possible focus on Jabba's palace coming up, and a remake being needed?)

Chewie:
--Not sure what else could be done with Chewie, but a lot of that is the fact that I think the Cloud City one is superb.  I know Hasbro likes to release Chewies, so maybe a new Boussh's bounty one is a possibility.  Or, they might just wait another year, because I'm sure we'll get an Episode III version.

R2-D2:
--There always seems to be an R2 around, I'm hoping for a drink-tray version...again with the rumored ROTJ theme for part of next year.

C-3PO:
--Other than the one-time rumored Ewok diety one, I don't know if we will see one or not.  I think I also read at one point there might be a Jabba's palace version (slimy?), but I don't know if that is true or not.  Either one would be fine, again, we will probably get a version with Episode III the following year, if that makes a difference.

Leia:
--a few options with Leia, she actually hasn't been seen in awhile.  We are getting the re-release ANH (new likeness) version this year, as well as the one that was in the screen scene, so I'm thinking probably not another ANH version.  A bespin gown Leia would be welcome, and is probably needed somewhat.  We had a ROTJ leia in POTJ (General, as well as Slave), although the General one was not a big favorite.  An Endor Leia, or a Boussh Leia are also possibilities?

Vader:
--Again, Vader has had most versions done already, but we will most likely see another next year...and maybe in Episode III, we will see this outfit?  I'm not sure what would be a good option, maybe you guys have better opinions.  One without an action feature is fine with me :).

Lando:
--Personally, I'd like to see a skiff guard redo...or even a general one.  I was happy with the Bespin one from POTJ, although it is kind of action-posed.  Lando in Han's outfit might be another idea.

Obi-Wan/Mace Windu:
--I'm putting them together, because we could probably use more basic versions of both of these figures (prequel-wise).  However, we have gotten several versions of each over the past year...and there is a pretty nice Mace coming up in the Screen Scene the way it looks.

Yoda:
--Again, we've had quite a few lately.  Only one I'd really like to see is a new sculpt OT version.  I think they could make one much better than the POTF2 days now.

Well, this is getting long, but I just wanted to throw a few ideas out there.  What are some of your predictions for 2004?  Like I mentioned earlier, I have seen rumors of a ROTJ/Jabba's palace focus for at least part of the year, but who knows if we will see that or not.  We are supposedly getting a little "2004 preview" at Comic-Con next week, so maybe that will shed a little light on things.  I was just curious to see some of your thoughts.  I didn't mention any beasts or vehicles, but feel welcome if you have any ideas.  Thanks, and sorry for the long post :).

Thanks Darth Broem!  I remembered that list, but wasn't sure where it was at right off hand.  Since I was at work, I didn't want to take the time to find it  :P.  Thanks for posting it, I'd be happy if we got all of those figures listed :).

Actually I am going by memory on that list and just added the Fan Choice winners and Jabba rumor.  So, it may not be 100% correct.  There may have been one or two figures I forgot.

I have also heard rumblings about a baby Ewok with mother figure.  But I have not seen it on an actual list.

Anything NEW would be great.  That means brand new figures... figures that have never been done before.  I'm sick of the re-hashes.  There are soooo many characters that have never been done before, and it's about time Hasbro made some of those characters into figures.

But, if Hasbro insists on doing re-hashes, please make it a re-hash that's worth buying.

There will be more repacks, for sure.  And there will be figures back from the grave.  I bet the cancelled Vader from the POTJ CD Rom set pops up somewhere next year, in addition to (hopefully at long last) those long lost Trophy figures Obi Wan Swimming and OOM-9.

Here's a list of stuff I had posted when I was over at TradeFederation.net...

As you can see some stuff is actually coming to fruition this year (Passel, Dignitaries), and that post was made far before any "official" confirmations from Hasbro.

Or even before any Hunters or Rebel Scum had "mentioned"...  ;)

Of course any of that stuff can get the axe, or pushed... but as of last talk w/ the person that gave me that info most was still on lists... or a go.

Some other things that we might be in for is a new Y-Wing, reissue on the Falcon... A new Falcon was talked of but at this point wouldn't be cost effective for Hasbro to go w/.

Let's hope the economy can turn around and we might get something newer... but here's to hoping...

Also this stuff is not nesscessarily all for 2004 though much is being talked about for next year.

I know people are wondering about the Sandcrawler... and from what I hear we should still see this piece... but for now it's on "hold".

I believe the 2nd series accessory sets have taken the axe, but even the person supplying the info to me is still not 100% sure on those...

To be continued...

Just a general question.  Do you know if the Weequay is supposed to be a resculpt of the previous version or the Skiff Master version (yellow jacketed weequay)?
Title: Re: Saga 2004 - Predictions
Post by: Jimmy on July 11, 2003, 10:48 PM
The Weequay is said to be "new"... but new to Hasbro and new to us is quite different  ;)

I mean the Saga Cantina Han and company are "new" in their books  ;D

Anything I find out I'll share w/ ya.

Personally, I'd be happy with a series of interconnecting Falcon 'playsets (sort of like "The Simpsons") I don't know if/ or which figures would be included, but, I'd go with something like...
Cockpit  8)
holochess / lightsaber training
repair bay/ Han and Leia's kiss (ESB)
medical bay /lift
gunner station

as far as Obi-Wan is concerned, I'd like to see a ANH cloak with no hood (deluxe? w/ tractor beam console?)

deluxe: I also wish they'd continue what they started w/ movie 'accuracy'. How about...
Death star  Gunner w/ cannon (once rumored)
Ackbar w/ command chair
Amidala w/ throne
(I posted a lot of these in the Movie wish lists)

Where is Boba Binks?  He used to giveout pretty reliable info.  I'd like to hear what his sources have said.  Binks!  Can you hear me?  I like the list so far, but I sure would like to see a new Lando General or Ewok celebration.  I would love these:

Hermi Odle
Biggs (Academy Uniform)
General Riekeen
General Veers w/ holo Vader

Speaking of Jabba's Palace, Hasbro should do screen sceens for Jabbas Palace and the Cantina next year.  That way we would at least get 8 new/never before made figures.  I'd like to see the following in the Jabba's palace sets:

Hermi Odle
Gargan
Toothface

Cane Adiss
Bubo
Sgt. Doyllan (sp)

for the Cantina, I would like to see:

Tonnika sisters (I know)

Dice Ibegon
Dannick Jerrico
Gotal

OK here's some more "rumored" info I have received in the last week or so...

Jabba on his dais... maybe put on hold. The contact I have w/ in Hong Kong was not sure if this was definite or even the reason why... he was given the word on this and was he'd know more info soon.

I am still praying this isn't the case... but nothing we can do but wait it out and see.

Also to answer Simdog...

There is a Hermie Odle on Hasbro internal lists. As of now it has not made it past those lists... and honestly a lot has made th list and never seen the light of day.
Though the source in Hong Kong is fairly certain we will see Ephant's counterpart.

There was talk of doing some Jabba screen scenes and incorporating Hermie in that way... as well as re-releasing Ephant that way. Nothing again has evolved out of the talk on those as of yet...

Next year is/was due to be a bigger focus on Return... as you can see by the list I posted in that link to the Trade Fed. There was also talk of a Gam Guard w/ Bubo... though the Gam Guard went off to the Target set.

Now w/ those most likely not coming out could the Gam Guard be back as a single carded figure?

Or could it be included in another talked about Jabba's four pack (i.e. Imperial and Hoth TRU sets)?

There is also talk of some Cantina screen scenes and as of now at the very least one looks like a definite possibility... Banniss Keeg is said to be one inclusion... and details on his company of two are still in the air.

Of course remember that throughout the years the line has been going much has come and gone...
Does anyone know there was going to be another Bespin playset? And it actually reached a kit bash prototype stage...

Hasbro changes their minds more than any woman I know ;)

The info I receive is usually very early... and many times coems from an internal source. That's the reasoning why it's hard to say for sure that something is a definite because Hasbro does put hold on things... or in so cases nixes them all together.

Title: Re: Saga 2004 - Predictions
Post by: Jimmy on July 18, 2003, 12:51 AM
Thanks guys!

The internal lists are basically lists of confirmed, possibles and anything else...

I can tell you that Hem Dazon is looking to be a definite addition to our collections. I think much of what lies in the balance is the fate of future Screen Scenes.

Hasbro has some ideas brewing that could lead into more of them... though if figures do not see the light in that venue then we'll see some normal carded for sure.

I have also been told a revisit to EU could be a possibility depending on what we see for interest on Clone Wars.

Hasbro basically is watching the market more carefully than they ever have.

I wish I could tell you what the big announcement was tomorrow... but honestly I have no clue whatsoever.
I'm just as anxious...

There is supposedly already a mock up for the Jedi Master points promo... and we should see that soon  :)
Title: Re: Saga 2004 - Predictions
Post by: Darby on July 18, 2003, 04:16 AM
Thanks for the info, Jimmy.  I think Screen Scenes are going to be the avenue by which Hasbro delivers a lot of 'boring' minor background characters in the future.  The Cantina, Jabba's Palace, The Pod Race, the Arena, Hoth, all of these are full of characters we want.

The list that was posted a few days ago is pretty accurate. There are some other items not listed that I have heard rumored but as of right now cannot confirm.

If I find out some things next week while at GenCon. I will be able to meet up and talk with a few people.  I will be sure to let you all know. I will also be at Wizards in Chicago in August.

The rumored Wampa's Cave Scene appears to have surfaced in that Japanese pic, and so has the long rumored Hoth Rebel Soldier (both he and the recent Snowtrooper were on lists back in 2000, weren't they?).

Bring us good info, Boba Binks.   ;D

Boba, I hope you're right on the Jabba. I'm a little worried to hear about him being part of a 10.99 deluxe line. I've always assumed to do ROTJ Jabba properly was at least a $20 Deluxe Beast-style proposition.

Not bad for a rumour list.  From the most recent rumor list, here are the figures that we can look forward to.

Ayy Vida (Episode II)
Bail Organa (Episode II)

Captain Antilles (Fan Choice #5 Winner Episode IV)
Clone Trooper (Super Articulated Episode II)
McQuarrie Stormtrooper (Fan's Choice #4)
Elan Sleazebaggano (Episode II)
General Jan Dodonna (Episode IV)
General Rieekan (Episode V)
Imperial Dignitary #1 (Episode VI)
Imperial Dignitary #2 (Episode VI)
Luke Skywalker (Jabba's Palace, Episode VI)
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Nightclub Episode II)
Padme Amidala (Tatooine Episode II)
Passel Argente (Episode II)

These are the figures from the list which are yet to be confirmed.

Bib Fortuna (Resculpt, Episode VI)
C-3PO (Jabba's Palace or Ewok Deity Episode VI)
Chief Chirpa (Episode VI)
Cloud Car Pilot (Episode V)
General Madine (Episode VI)
Jocasta Nu (Episode II)
Princess Leia (Bespin Episode V)
Stass Allie (Jedi Knight Episode II)
Weequay (Episode VI)

With 4 of 7 deluxe figures shown, i'm hoping for Hermi Odle. Also from Jabba's Palace I want Gargan.
Title: Themed Waves: Let The Speculation Begin!
Post by: Darby on July 19, 2003, 04:53 AM
Here is some guess work on my part using what we know and also what's shown up on some rumor lists.  I've only done up to six waves, and no PT ones, although I'm awfully tempted.  Anyways, here goes:

Hoth: Luke, Rebel Trooper, R3-PO, Riekken, Wampa

Tatooine: ROTJ Luke, C3-PO & Escape Pod

Jabba’s Palace: Weequay, Bib Fortuna, Bartender R2, Jabba w/ Dais

Yavin: General Dodonna, Captain Antillies, Wedge, Rebel Trooper in Watch Tower

Star Destroyer: Dengar, Ozzel or Veers, Vader in Meditation Chamber

Speculation Goodness:

Bespin: Leia Bespin Gown, Cloud Car Pilot, Vader (from POTJ CD-ROM), Han in Torture Rack

For the PT waves, I'd love to see a focus on the Jedi (either in the Arena or in the Temple), as well as the Senate.  I think a Senate pod car would be perfect for the new deluxe pieces.   Hmm...

Galactic Senate: Senator Amidala (E2), Toonbuck Tora, Dorme  ;D and Senate Car w/ Wookie Senator?

Now let's hear your guys thoughts/wishes/expectations.
Title: Re: Themed Waves: Let The Speculation Begin!

I'd like to see a wave based on the Episode I Naboo Royal Starship.
Padme (or would it be Sabe?) in an outfit Hasbro hasn't made yet.

Some resculpted Naboo guards, or even rereleased ones. Maybe different head sculpts like the Imperial Officer.

And Handmaidens in those funny orange gowns, cause we've been asking for those.

I think Hasbro woul probably avoid an entire Episode I-themed wave like the plague, but I'd like to see it.

One wave definitely seems geared toward the Outlander Nightclub.  Witness Ayy Vida, Obi-Wan & Elan Sleazebaggano.

I believe those are late '03 releases Nick...Hasbro also said all of these '04 Waves will be Classic Trilogy Only

I think you have some great guesses there Darb

Hoth looks pretty much set

Hopefully a few new Cantina Aliens for the Tatooine Wave Hem Dazon and Dannick Jerricho?

I'd add the rumored Weequay to the Jabba Wave

With Rieekan getting the Display Board I sure hope this mean Dodonna will be getting a display table

Ozzel has been rumored for quite a while on and off so he is a good bet, a resculpt Bossk makes sense too

And that DS Wave sounds awesome...Tarkin, Tagge, Yularen and a Resculpted DS Trooper or DS Gunner!

I would also assume Bespin and Endor waves are in the works

LEt me think who would make a perfect addition to the Bespin wave???

From the black and white image that I saw of Jabba it looks similiar to the Jabba Glob but I think it is a resculpt. I can not be certain for I did not have a Jabba Glob to compair it with at the time. The little dias, only part was shown in the image. It looks like it was made all from plastic.
From what I have seen in the image I think it is to scale or close with the regular figures. I am waiting to see a full color, all aspect image of the Jabba. I think people will be happy with it from what I can tell. I am happy since I have only liked the Jabba Glob Jabba thus far.

I hope to see more before the next Insider. If I do get privilaged to see such info I will be sure to let you know.

Hey Binks...

Been away a few days so let me catch up.

The Jabba you saw was most likely the Return Jabba w/ dais.  ;) I got to talk to my friend over in Hong Kong and he mentioned that although it's still coming (and very nice still he said) some little things were scrapped from the set to make it stay at the lower price point Hasbro is looking to go w/ on this one.

There is actually a third Dignitary that is basically the vintage version (taller- skinnier) that has yet to be mentioned or shown. I am hoping it still makes the light of day... and hopefully he'll be an inclusion in the Emperor's Throne Room screen scene... or somewhere. Though usually once a mold is crafted it's pretty sure you'll see it down the road. Not much hasn't seen light that was molded... though a few lost items haven't seen light... yet.

I was actually surprised / the Jedi Master points revelation since there is a figure that was made in mock up form for that promo. Will it get released? That's anyones guess at this point but I'll let you guys know if I hear more on that.

Looks like we have a sweet year coming up... and some of those figures are just gorgeous.

It's funny to look back at '95-97 era figures and what we have now... and coming.

I'll be even more poor next year... Anyone know what blood plasma sells for these days  ;D

I also would take any theme that would get us an Orange Handmaiden Padme.  The fact we haven't gotten one yet is criminal.

I wonder if there will be more OT waves than PT.  I know many collectors (most?) prefer the OT, and POTJ relied heavily on it after the sour taste of TPM.  Myself I'll take all the PT figs I can get.  I'm hoping for a Senate wave, an Arena wave (all Jedi!), and anything that gets me Trophy Obi Wan, Dorme, or Ratts Tyrell.

Jimmy, are those figs that haven't seen the light... yet possibly the Trophy figures?  Have you heard anything from your source about when and where these figures may turn up?  I imagine both could pop up in a Naboo themed wave next year...

And I wonder what figure could be the one sculpted and abandoned for the Jedi Master Points promotion?  Any hints?

Hey guys...

Honestly I have noc lue what this supposed mock up is.
I wish I knew... but alas I'm in the same boat.
I will definitely let all know though if I can get that put of my source.

As for Imperials... I haven't heard too much in the way of Imperials. Though Moff Jerrod is something that has been talked about outside of Hasbro and speculation is high on him right now. I can't confirm him being on any internal lists but if that changes I'll let all know as well.

Some definitely nice things coming up it seems...  The themes could work well too, and keep a level of consistency, but I have a few reservations too...

Does this mean theme waves won't see subsequent re-release, incase items are difficult to find?  What about the seemingly scaled back product (Or is it not scaled back compared to a non-movie year like POTJ?  Maybe not...)

Anyway, some speculation...

-Endor...  New Han with jacket, new Luke, New Leia...  Much needed I think...  Of course I could list more figures for this series too.

-Battle of Endor...  New Lando Pilot, A-Wing Pilot, B-Wing Pilot...

-Battle of Yavin (It's being done differently, I know)...  Rebel Hangar tech, Ceremonial Guard, New Luke Ceremony or Han Ceremony (I'd take a new Fleet Trooper myself, of course).  By the way, anyone else notice that the "Battle of Yavin" set includes Captain Antilles who was nowhere near the Battle of Yavin?  What kinda theme is that? :)

I like the Death Star idea with a re-release Motti and a resculpt Grand Moff Tarkin...  Chuck in Chief Bast or a generic officer in a black tunic and I'd be one happy camper.

Definitely some creativity can be used when creating this new idea of themed releases...  I'm glad it's a non-movie year, finally...  I just wonder what we're in store  for, and what the situation will be for the consumer.  It's not been a great one for the past year and then some...  And will the figures be improvements in quality (Some look to be pretty great from those Japanese pics).

We also shouldn't overlook the distincy possibility of repurposed figures like POTJ... R-3P0 looks like the first out the gate for that. I honestly don't think thats a bad thing, either. I'm all for background characters.

My hopes along those lines:

- A retooled Stormtrooper for a Death Star wave
- Retool the Star Tours R5-D2 (removing damage and altering "eye" sockets) to create D4, pack him with a Jawa or an repaint Gonk

Ah! R5!  I nearly forgot about him.  I'd consider him a slam dunk for that Tatooine wave now that I think about it.

Well since there will be only 12 waves,I hope the one for the holidays will be the most interesting,I mean come on,what a nostalgic trip would it be to have the Death Star wave around christmas, kind of a nod to the Death Star Playset of long ago.

Now,as for vehicles, lets say they release 1 ever wave or so.

Hoth Wave(Internet exclusive)REBEL TRANSPORT WITH REBEL PILOTS(2)

Jabba Wave(TRU exclusive)SKIFF

Battle of Yavin Wave(NON EXCLUSIVE)Y-WING WITH REBEL PILOT

So,what do you guys think we'll get for vehicles?

I would really be happy if Hasbro would make more cardboard/paper diorama sets like the Jabba's Palace & Cantina Bar.  I have both of those sets, and they look great for my collection of loose figures.  I would love to see the following diorama sets created...

- Outlander Nightclub
- Death Star (where Grand Moff Tarkin gives orders to blow up Alderaan)
- War room on Mon Calamari Star Cruiser (where final orders are given out to attack 2nd Death Star and Endor's shield generator)

I would have listed more, but I'm running a blank on the other ones at the moment.

^^^

I like your ideas, but I think that Hasbro will either double the figures, or put more into one box/wave.

Other than that, I am thrilled that there will be no action features, and the figs look GREAT based on the pics I've seen. Hasbro DOES listen to us. ;D :P

I don't think all of the themes will be form the OT.  I think at least the first 6.  Afterwards they may mix in the PT.

Yeah, but, hopefully more OT than PT. :)

I would hope there is more OT than PT.  I think I have seen enough AOTC for awhile.  Although I'd like to have a Pablo Jill figure.

Half and half on the themes would be fine for me.  I don't want them forgetting about the PT too much.

I have concerns about Screen Scenes.

As far as Screen Scenes ar concerned, it seems as though Hasbro has already broken them down.  For example, there was the rumoured Throne room scene.  Well, we got Vader and Luke, the Emperor is on his way and soon we will even have Dignitaries.

Also, the rumoured Wampa cave scene.  Well, the Wampa, and Luke looked to be locked for deluxe and basic card release instead of Screen Scene release.  Whats Up?

Even the Outlander club set was broken up.  If we aren't getting these scenes, what are we getting?

Jimmy? Binks?  Whats the deal?

Considering the sizable accessory Riekken comes with, I wonder if he wasn't part of a larger Screen Scene featuring other characters.

Anybody?  What will the Sceen Scenes be in 2004?  It seems as though Hasbro has broken down at least 3 in favor of themed waves.

Outlander Club
Wampa Cave
Emperor's Throne room

They have to know how excited we are about the Screen Scenes so I know they aren't going anywhere.  Whats the deal?

Considering the Lars Homestead was on the rumor list not too long ago (with the Wampa cave), I'd imagine we'll see those figs either as a Screen Scene, or broken up into the waves.

Screen Scenes would definitely be the way to go IMO.

Well if this is the trend, it doesn't look good for the Screen scenes unless they abandoned those ideas for all new, more exciting ones.  I guess we will see.

I like screen scenes quite a bit.  However, I will take them anyway we can be it individual carded figs or whatever.  Sounds promising.  At least Hasbro has ideas kicking around for obscure figures like Moff Jerrjerrod and Hem Dazon and Banniss Keeg.
