So Steven Tyler is apprenticed by a Space Pirate, and becomes total enemies with the nearly nude offspring of Aayla Secura and Darth Maul. Neat.

It'll be nice to not have to try and determine how the comics and novels mesh in a timeline!  I still don't have that down.

STAR WARS: LEGACY

Updated 4/7/2006

Some of you may have already tumbled to the fact that 2006 marks Dark Horse's twentieth anniversary. Many of you are, I'm sure, already cognizant of Star Wars' impending thirtieth anniversary next year. Here at Dark Horse, Jeremy Barlow, Dave Marshall, and I -- along with creators like John Ostrander, Jan Duursema, John Jackson Miller, Brian Ching, Rob Williams, Brandon Badeaux, and a host of others -- have been working on our twentieth/thirtieth anniversary plans for over a year now.

You've already seen Knights of the Old Republic, and a sneak peek at Rebellion (issue #1 is on sale just a few days from this writing!), and it's almost time for us to let our latest cat out of the bag: Legacy. Certainly the most controversial of our new looks at Star Wars, Legacy takes place one hundred years after the very latest thing you know about that galaxy far, far away, and speculation on the series has run the gamut from awed to angry. But you can just relax - I'm not about to reveal details about the series so close to the release of the special Legacy #0 issue, or the first of three (count 'em, three) articles about the series in Star Wars Insider. However, I will let you in on the behind-the-scenes story on the covers to the Legacy series.

Artist Adam Hughes and I went to meet the cast of Legacy to capture in-character shots of them for the covers, and to ask them about their roles in this galaxy-spanning drama. Finding time to get groups of characters together between all of the action that writer John Ostrander and co-plotter and artist Jan Duursema are putting them through wasn't easy, but Hughes managed to obtain the shots he wanted, two of which you see here. When I left him, he was working on a third cover, but having some difficulty getting two of the characters to pose to his requests. "Do they think they're royalty or something?" I heard Hughes mutter as I departed to interview some of his previous subjects.

I caught up with the cast, mostly unknowns, at various points on and between Coruscant, Socorro, and Lok. The Sith were, perhaps understandably, reticent about their parts in the story. "Get away from me, freak, or I'll slice you in quarters," hissed Darth Talon.

"We should have warned you about the Sith," laughed Cade Skywalker, easing back into his seat in the corner booth in Rik's Cantina and casually slipping an arm around the shoulders of Deliah Blue. "Not all of us are as stand-offish as they are. Right, Deliah?"

"I liked you better when you were 'brooding,'" said Blue, ducking Skywalker's arm and slipping gracefully out of the booth, leaving an unmistakable pheromone message in her wake.

My interview was cut short when an altercation between Skywalker's friend Jeriah and Rik's bartender threatened to turn violent. But even as I beat a hasty retreat, I'd seen enough to know that the characters were taking to their roles as though born to them.

Look for Legacy #0 in May! Only 25˘ wherever fine comics are sold!

- Randy Stradley

I initially thought I'd just be sticking to the Star Wars: Rebellion comic for my SW comic interest, since I'm more into the OT, but while at the comic shop yesterday I decided to pick up the 25 cent special for Legacy.  It is basically a guide to some of the characters, worlds, and ships that will appear in the series - but it got me interested.  I think I might check out the first few issues and see what its like.

My LCBS threw the $0.25 issue in as a freebie for subscribers this week.

I wasn't too impressed with some of the stuff (like having a pile of Sith Lords and yet another Empire), but some of the other things seemed like cool ideas to play off of (the Jedi backing the Vong and causing another War).

I kinda feel the same as you Brian.  I think I'll end up picking up the first few issues to see where it goes...

I got my 25 cent issue yesterday. Its very intriguing. So far I like what ive read. The multiple sith lords are a nice idea I think. I am anxious to see how this plays out. Ive already got custom ideas for Cade, and Darth Talon. I like the fact that theyve taken the recent Vong invasion to the next logical step. It should be an interesting read in any event.

Post by: Darth_Ennis on June 26, 2006, 12:01 AM
I have been waiting for this to come out for months now. Issue #o as much of a tease as it was, only made me want it more.

I have to admit though, issue #1 was a lot of lead in, I didn;t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Make no mistake, I still enjoyed it. But I want to read a little more about the crew of the Mynok. I wish it would have been a double issue so we could have gotten to that story much quicker.

Since the Rebellion and Knights of the Old Rpublic just aren't as good as Republic and Empire I am really hoping this book does well.

What do you guys think?

Merged as requested.

I'm still not sure what to think about the Legacy thing... Particular parts of it just don't appeal to me at all... but hey - maybe it'll turn out better than expected.

Just got done reading issues #0 and #1.  I definitely like where this is going.  Can't wait for the next installment.

On a related note, this is my first real entry into the events of the New Jedi Order.  Any suggested reading I should check out to get me up to speed on where they are at?  Or I guess better stated, where they have come from?  ???

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Just got Legacy #0 in the mail from SciFiGenre. It's cool seeing all the new Imperials, Sith, Ships, Locations, etc, sort of reminds me of the old "GI Joe Yearbook" comics that Marvel published that gave profiles of characters, weapons, and vehicles.

Just got Legacy #3 today during lunch.  My favorite part of this issue is when Luke makes a surprise appearance to talk to Cade.

A few more characters introduced and a few plots starting to hatch.  I just hope that they don't take another two months to release #4.  The wait for #3 was brutal.

yeah i've only read three njo books and i consider them the best ones, i know what happens in the rest and these three are the most eventful and best reads:

Vector Prime-Star by Star-The Unifying Force

as for after the njo, everything is cool:
Dark Nest Trilogy:the joiner king, the unseen queen, the swarm war.

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal,Bloodlines,etc....

Personally, I have my suspicions about Darth Krayt. I think he will end up being Jacen Solo myself.

If this turns out to be true, than reading the entirety of the NJO series would be good background material. The highlight would be Traitor.

 ::) Get over yourself.

As for Legacy and the earlier timelined books Legacy of the Force, I'm definitely starting to sense a connection. Jacen falling to the dark side is a plot line I didn't sense, though I usually stick to books that involve other characters I know a little more about. Having not read the Young Jedi Knights series I don't have a clue as to whether or not this is a reccuring aspect of Jacen, but as I recall, Jaina was the one who was falling to the darkside.

Anyway - Legacy's been an interesting series so far and I'm looking forward to getting into the thick of it like I did with Republic. Personally, I found it most interesting around #66, albeit a little late, but juicy nonetheless. Legacy's gotten a real kick in this issue though. You can see the big issues that are gonna get hit and really---who doesn't love SW Bounty Hunters?

On that note...WTF?! (http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/09/14/dog.bounty/index.html)

don't know about you guys but i'm skipping issue four, and really wish they'd make the issues abit longer. i haven't bought single issues since the late nineties and remember them being well worth the standard 2.50 back then. what gives?

if anything i gotta say the writers are trying way too hard with Cade and his bunch to be original, a drug addict/bounty hunter/scum bag whose supposed to turn into somebody we like?   mark renton (trainspotting) or Robert Downey JR. is this an attempt at creating new mythos? lol

You are right, I hit the comic shop for the first time in a long time today.  2.99 for less? Hey what's with that?

And look at the TPBs, you pay a full $1 more just for the convenience of buying it all at once.

well if you think about it, it tells alot about how this generation has been perceived and well as a member of it i can say : "is".

especially the ppl behind me my sisters era, their a bunch of Cade's, my guys are bit more Solo/Fett, but the kids right now, christ.....i really fear the day their in charge of things.

essentially cade is like having robert downey Jr. play Iron Man..wait a second they are..lol

or the big lebowski turned into a starwars...lol that'd be kool....

i love it either way,. just wish they could  fatten up the issues...

I hardly think Star Wars: Legacy is meant to be a social commentary on how deranged the world is. Comic books can be deep sometimes, but all in all, they're comic books, not 19th century novels.

Just picked up #4 today.  I really like the story, but I'm getting impatient with the lack of continuity between the issues.  There have been 4 main issues now (not counting #0) and I think that there are at least 5-6 open ended story lines going on.  I guess I'm just too impatient right now, but I hope that they start tying in some of these stories sooner rather than later...

#4 is meant to be a stand alone comic....It was originally going to be released as #7, but got bumped up due to some delay in Dark Horse...notice the different artist and style.

Thanks.  I did notice the difference, but didn't make the connection that it might be a filler issue.  That makes more sense now.  I still wish the issues came more frequently though.  I guess that I'm going to have to fill my time between 'Legacy' issues by starting to read 'Dark Times' when it comes out.

i love this story, i like these designs, but its really starting to feel like there grasping at straws with each issue. their clone wars stuff was better than the prequels, but this legacy stuff is just really circling the drain for me. i don't know if its the possibilty that Krayt is a loser and Cade is a scumbag, but its really been taken down a few pegs for me.

I picked up Legacy #7 yesterday, and I have to say that I'm really enjoying this series.  I haven't been able to grasp on to a lot of Star Wars EU in the past - particularly stuff that didn't involve characters I knew from the movies - but this series has been different so far.  A lot of stuff in the past didn't seem "Star Wars" to me, but this series - so far - does.  The first arc is wrapped up, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this is headed next.

The Legacy comic is my favorite, I just love how Cade turned out after seeing his father, friends and mentor being struck down, He didn't become an avenger or some fanatic "save the world" do good'er after the trauma,
Instead he became a thug, a bountyhunter struggling with the memories from the past. Thats realistic to me.

And you probably hate me for this ;),
But how did Luke react on seeing his foster parents killed,
did he have any nightmares over their burnt corpses?,
I don't remember that he had, or that it left any scars.
he took it rather well...
...and that's not real to me.

p.s I got some Legacy customs up in the customs section d.s

also ordered it,

i also got issue 9 yesterday, must say i was impressed with how the scantly clad female didn't take over the entire issue. one thing I'm really getting tired of is the commercials taking up half the issue. getting outta control, i mean if we haft to pay for a book of ads why not give us some old school order ads as well. i mean this is starwars, its not like there isn't enough stuff they could be pimping through direct sales.
