Title: removing stickers from card/bubble
Post by: foolintherain76 on January 29, 2006, 10:41 AM
I had 2 questions that I can't seem to find answers for anywhere else.  The first is how to remove some price stickers from the cardboard (and in one or 2 cases from the actual bubble) and remove the sticky residue safely.  The second is a little different.  I sometimes have to purchase a figure from R2-DToys because I can't find it here.  Usually it comes with a foreign "sticker" on the back and on the bottom of the bubble.  And usually it just peals right off, no tearing or anything.  I have one that seems to have gotten really gooey though on the bottom of the bubble on a clone wars figure.  Any type of solvent to get this stuff off without dissolving the damn bubble??  Thanks!

Something called Goo-Gone is great for removing adhesive - it's fine on the bubbles, but I've never tried it on the card for fear of damaging the card.  Anyone else?

Goo Gone is great, I have had no problem with it. I have also heard some people using lighter fluid and WD-40 tho I have never tried them.

Check out rocketjawa's website for more ideas.  ;)

Goo gone is probably the best way to remove stickers.  Bubbles are pretty easy, cardbacks are a little tougher.  You should practice on a cheap figure first before proceeding to that carded yackface.

typically a few drops of goo gone on a sticker and it will remove easily.  usually there is a little residue left over, and slight rubbing should remove it, however, rub too long, let the goo gone sink in too long then rubbing, etc. and you could end up taking a little of the paint off the cardback.

Still, it usually works pretty darn good.

Goo-Gone is perfectly safe on Hot Wheels cards, which me and my dad collect. We aren't "Hot Wheels guys", so don't jump down our throat.  ;) It's pure enjoyment of the hunt and the little metal cars. :P
Goo-Gone = God send

Goo Gone can be found at any hardware or most stationary stores, just give them a call to see if they have any.

I always use the "Zippo lighter fluid" to remove sticker or price tags on cards and books. 8)
Add ONLY a few drops of Zippo liquid on the sticker you want to remove.
Make sure the liquid is covering the entire sticker/price tag.
Then slowly peel it off!
You should be above to remove it without damaging the card!

Also try a hair dryer.

Use a hot hair dryer on the sticker for a couple of minutes and it should lift right off.

To get the sticky stuff off of the bubble, I have never actually tried Goo Gone. Instead, I lightly dampen a paper towel, and rub the stuff off the bubble. If it's stubborn, I gently use my nail to slightly scratch the goo off. If you're careful, there will be no scratches on the bubble, and the goo comes off!

Haven't tried getting goo off the card, though....
