It was cruel to announce that film during the Super Bowl when I had to work the next morning.

I think if you've followed all the Marvel films closely, the trailer was an absolute joygasm.  You already know where every piece is on the board, and the trailer gave you an idea where they're all headed.

If you haven't, then the significance of a lot of things won't be apparent.

Buffy, Firefly, Alien and Predator have been dead or nearly-dead franchises for a long time.  The latest Alien was considered pretty awful, and who knows whether the Predator reboot will be any good.

They've been talking about the end of The Simpsons for at least a decade.  I thought I read a year or two back that the talent had signed their final contracts, and planned to wind down.  I don't think the Disney purchase is going to impact the future of The Simpsons in any negative way.  If anything, they'll throw more money at it to preserve the brand.

Theaters make way more money off quality Disney films, where they're selling out screenings and tons of popcorn, than they do mediocre X-Men films that die after two weeks.  I doubt any theater chain is complaining about Star Wars hitting today.  I was looking at the mid-day screenings Friday are nearly entirely sold out at my favorite theater (assigned seats, so you can see exactly how many are open).  And it's sold out completely for many screenings through the weekend.  A bump from Apocalypse box office to Ragnarok box office across the X-Franchise would be a windfall for theaters.

I'm guessing this is all why we've heard nothing about Marvel Phase IV.  They knew they were gonna make a move on Fox, and thus couldn't make plans until that deal was final.

I'd expect Doctor Doom to be a recurring enemy, and the FF and X-Men to fill the hole left by the departure of a lot of the Phase I talent.  Hopefully we'll see a proper Galactus.

They just damn well better integrate Reynolds' Deadpool!  Of course they'd be fools not to, and they're not fools.

I'm most annoyed by the fact that Rick's daughter looks like she's 3 years old now, while Maggie doesn't even have a hint of a baby bump.

Overall it was a decent finale.  I wish they'd shown the Saviors escaping instead of just telling us it happened.  Would have been more interesting.  Big surprise with Carl.  Is that something that happened in the comics?

Ezekiel had to give himself up to lock the doors behind his people.  It was a good moment, IMO.

And what a colossally bad way to get Oceanside on their side...

The chances of somebody shooting down a small drone like that mid-flight are minuscule.  There's no way Dwight drops it with his hand gun.  Just bad writing.

It's a shame Eugene wussed-out on fingering Dwight to Negan.

So yeah - I'm gonna say that last stone has to be in Wakanda.  Possibly the source of Wakanda's advanced tech.  No real reason for Thanos to invade the place otherwise.  Unless that's where they take Vision to hide him after Dr. Strange gets his stone jacked in NYC.

It doesn't seem very efficient that Thanos would grab the Nova stone and the Cosmic Cube and NOT visit the Collector before heading to Earth to gather the other 3...  but it looks like he only has 2 when he first fights Stark.

Pretty sure the second stone in the trailer is the purple one Nova has from GOTG1.

So are we guessing the mystery infinity stone is in Wakanda then?

I forget where the red one went after Thor 2.

One of the times I was most frustrated with the film was right after Superman arrived at the final battle.  We got like 30 seconds of awesome fighting.  Then all of a sudden they're like "Oh no - people are in danger!" and then Superman STOPS FIGHTING AND LEAVES.  We were finally, after almost 2 hours, getting to see what we wanted to see, and they cut it short.

Then when Supes comes back it's like he hits Steppenwolf twice and it's over.

Weekend actuals are in for JL:  $93,842,239

That's lower than even their lowest estimates.  It must have bombed Sunday.

I saw it Saturday.  My wife likes Wonder Woman and Jason Mamoa, so I didn't have a choice.

There were long stretches of a really bad movie.  Steppenwolf was full-tilt atrocious.  Up until he puts on his blue tights everything with Superman was awful.  "What's an excuse to make Superman try to kill the league?  Oh yeah - Pet Cemetery!"  All of Kansas was excruciating.  (not to mention Martha apparently drove there from Metropolis in like an hour).  All the time invested in the Chernobyl family so we can pay off a single gag - horrible decision.

There was also a lot of inoffensive filler.

There were probably 20 minutes of really great stuff.

...is it possible that the Amazons are wearing different designs because the movie is set fifty years later?   :-\

They wore the same exact outfits for 2000 years in Wonder Woman.  I doubt the brief introduction of Chris Pine in 1917 prompted them to update their fashion choices.   ;)

I think it's a waste of time to try to come up with a coherent, plot-driven reason they're wearing leather bikinis now.  Zack Snyder likes chicks in skimpy outfits.  That's the reason the outfits changed.

I'm not sure Marvel reuses sets/actors from one film to the next like you're suggesting.  I think if two are filming concurrently (say like Doc Strange and Ragnarok) you might get an easy cross-over.  But I'd guess most of the stuff is set up fresh on demand.

And the reason why the Justice League Amazonians are bikini babes is because Zack Snyder likes chicks in skimpy outfits.  I doubt he gives two ***** about continuity.  I mean, his plot lines in any single film can't be coherent.  Expecting them to be coherent across multiple films is just ludicrous.

Rotten Tomatoes, which is partially owned by Warner Bros., is holding off linking reviews until Thursday even though the review embargo ended this morning.
