I gave up last year after buying the Sideshow Luke and Anakin figures, and scaring myself.

This year, I have to take it easy since I'm going to Vegas in early 2008 and actually have to watch my spending or get a second job.

At any rate, ten days in, and here's what I have, rounded out:

Three SW figures at TRU--Security Clone, 442nd, and AOTC Sergeant- $22
Beast Wars 10th Ann. Rhinox- $12
X3 Beast- $11
Chain Attack Ghost Rider- $8
Sideshow Darth Maul- $65
R5-J2- $7
Cantina Band tin set (on clearance)- $20
Spider-Man Origins Spider-Man/ Green Goblin set- $13
Iron Spider-Man- $8
Darth Vader's Sith Starfighter- $20
Battlestar Galactica Titaniums- Classic Colonial Viper and "Scar"- $12

Total- $198

Great. Almost $200 in the first month. Way to save for vacation, you putz.

I kept track last year, although I didn't like to look at it after awhile either.  Things got a lot more pricey than I had anticipated.  That spending considered, as well as the fact we have a baby on the way this year, I'm really going to make a concious effort to cut spending from last year in half - at least.  Its time to make the choices of what to drop and what to keep.  Here's my tally so far for January, and I don't intend to pick anything else up this month unless the second part of the "Final 22" shows up.

January
Darth Vader's Sith Starfighter - $25 (TRU)
2 Marvel Legends Figures ($10 each) - $20

I'm certain I'll drop out in short order after I start shaking my head at my own spending again, but thus far it's looking pretty sweet:

January:
Ebay purchase of Cordelia 'The Wish' figure: $12.00 after shipping.

That's it so far :P Didn't last too long with that :-X

Cordelia BTVS figure 12.00
MR Maul FX double bladed saber $115.28
Four Hot wheels classics cars $9.00
Iron Spiderman/2099 Spidey + 8 Titanium ships from Hasbrotoyshop $66.81
Three Battlestar Galactica titanium ships + shipping $21.20

I'm new to the game but I'll play.  I'm not a big spender, at least in my own mind, but I know that I've committed to buying a lot of $20+ items for this year...

That being said:

January
WM Exclusive Cantina Band Tin:  $20
Ambush on Ilum BP: $20
Betrayal on Felucia BP: $20
Jedi Training on Dagobah BP: $20
Mace Windu MR Force FX Lightsaber: $65 30 (Got a refund)
Star Wars Poster Book: $9

Total:  $154 $124

February
TSC Basic Figures: $58
Star Wars Chronicles - The Prequels: $50
Droids, Droids Rebellion, Boba Fett Death Lies and Treachery, Boba Fett Enemy of the Empire tpbs: $13
Tales of the Jedi - The Collection tpb: $24

Total:  $145

I hadn't see this thread before, so '07 will be my first year of really looking at this. I'm sure glad my Kubrick series 7 binge was December... and I made a December 31st purchase of loose kubs from Doc, so those don't count

My prediction in one thread or another was that Hasbro would see a few hundred dollars from me this year, so I'll have to watch that one.

I'm also trading and selling some stuff, so I will just keep updating a number each month to adjust

January 07 $277 (that is after adjustment for items sold, $115)
Kubrick shadow trooper $72 (that makes 3  ;D )
4 figures at target $29
Oscar cases for Kubricks $135
1 Mace's squad battle pack $11.00
AAT, Hailfire, sith fighter, $64.00
Felucia pack, $21.00
3 kubrick sandtroopers $60.00

February  $672 (that is after adjustment for items sold, $320.00)
13 figures at WalMart 77.00
1 GH set 6.00
Doc bricks 65.00
Jesse bricks 100.00
Jeff bricks 40.00
OCB bricks 60.00
carded Vader brick, Fett brick, and Sacul brick. $600.00 (Sometimes Sam Adams and the internet don't mix)
Toys R Us BOGO sale 1 ship 4 figures 2 titanium 44.00

looks like first quarter '07 is going to be expensive  :-[

March $53.00
misc figures- some retail, some the local collector club $30.00
GH Durge set and Momaw set $13.00
Another gamorrean brick $10.00

April ($450 in the black)
I purchased a bunch of kubricks, cleaned out a bunch of stuff, and will be purging again soon. I am starting to thin out the collection, and I think it is time to make some more drastic cuts. But I bought a 400% shadow stormtrooper, so I guess I'm not completely out of the purchasing game...

May ($300 in the black)
More selling and returning, plus some small purchases. I'm in for about $75 worth of clearance order 66 packs, and may get a few more if I can find them. I caved and bought the Kubrick 07 5 pack on ebay, because I fear BBTS isn't going to come through. If they do, I end up with a couple more snowtroopers, so I can live with that. This month's total is more of a guess, but it should be pretty accurate.  If I can unload the carded collection, I may end up on the plus side by July.

June sucked for many reasons. Call it even, I don't think I bought or sold a thing.

July-  $520
Commander Cody bust
CIV figures from Matt (jedimoses)
Lego Sail Barge
A few misc items from local group
Kubrick Carded Han in Carbonite
Kubrick 5 pack

Sold a few items, but it was still expensive.

I had to go through old bank statements and paypal records to figure these last few months out.

August- ($200 in the black)

September - ($300 in the black)

October-  $150
Looks  like I found a rash of figures I liked- I ended up getting more stormtroopers than I originally intended (22 instead of zero)

November- ($1800 in the black)
90% of this was selling my pinball machine

December- darn near even as close as I can tell.
I picked up the battlefront sets, target GH sets, 4 hoth battle packs that I parted most of out and sold a bunch of stuff I just didn't want to keep moving around.

So put me down for actually coming out $1300 or so ahead for the year. My collection changed a bit, I picked up more TAC than I originally intended, but not anywhere near what I did with saga in 06. Now it is time to break out the TAC figures and find out exactly how many I ended up with.

You know, something that has really amazed me since taking part in the "challenge" and keeping track of things is how easily things add up with collecting.  I rarely, if ever, buy anything that would be considered "high end" and mainly stick to the Hasbro/cheaper stuff.  I think I had two purchases that were $50 last year - a GG Chewie bust and a POTF2 AT-AT (thanks Mikey!)  Even though the prices sometimes seem high for the figures, it is probably one of the cheapest things to collect from the Star Wars universe, on an individual basis.  But really, just collecting that can put you in the $800-$1000 range.  I collect a few things from Spidey/Marvel and DC on occasion too, but I'm not completist with any of my collections and things still seem to get out of hand.  I was in the $1000 range for the year last year (a lot for me), and hope to cut back considerably (half) this year.

I thought to myself, well the Marvel stuff should be slowing down overall, so I'll basically be sticking to Star Wars and some Spidey beyond that, so that should be cheaper.  But, when you start figuring the Star Wars basic line - without buying duplicates or anything - you're looking at at least 60 figures, probably more, 12-15 comic packs, some battlepacks, basic ($20) ships, most likely a couple of exclusive beasts/ships, and some other miscellaneous stuff along the way.  If you just bought one of each of those, or most of those, you'd be spending quite a bit.  I remember collecting in the POTJ days on a budget of $25-$30 a month, and as much as I'd like to do that now, it is more of a struggle.  Anyways, back on topic, it has just been amazing (and eye opening) to me how quickly this "little stuff" can add up in the course of a year.  Yikes.

Bah, just stop buying the little stuff then.  Or, buy bigger stuff and suddenly all those little things really don't add up that quickly it seems.  Honest, one Master Replicas helmet really makes 20 Hasbro figures seem pretty inexpensive.   :-X

It's a difficult decision to make - case in point - the 12" Jabba setup.  I'd like to buy the complete environment and in order to do so, I'd have to purchase the following:

-12" Jabba - $120
-Throne - $200
-12" Creature pack - $30
-12" Boussh Leia - $55
-12" Bib Fortuna - $55

So that's $460 (factor in $50 for shipping) so we're at a cool $510.

Now if we take that and divide it by $6.66 (the cost of a figure shipped from NF) I come up with almost 76 figures.  That's almost a whole year's worth of releases.

What would you do?

Don't forget today's $40 Bubo pack... that's another 6 figures.   ;)

At one time, I was really considering trying to collect the Sideshow 12" line - just sticking to the OT characters/figures to keep it more "manageable" - but this is an example of why I decided not to.  Although their product is amazing, and I'm glad I picked up the Bespin Han, it just gets way too expensive for me personally.  Even if I could somehow give up the 3 3/4" line (which I don't think I could), I wouldn't be saving anything, because I think it would be more expensive in the long run, throughout a year's time.  Again, its great product, but I just can't afford it.

Right - I deliberately left that one out because personally, I could live without it.  The first creature pack was included only because of Salacious.

You can't have Jabba without that little bugger!

So I received a $50 target gift card as a work bonus. Do I need to count it as money spent if I use it on toys, or would they qualify as a gift?  ::)  Yup, I'm looking to split hairs...
Title: Re: The Great 2007 Collector's Challenge
Post by: Mikey D on January 29, 2007, 08:36 PM
If you spent any portion of that GC on toys, then yes I would count it.  I consider everything I buy part of the challenge, no matter how I pay for - cash, credit card, gift card, etc.
Title: Re: The Great 2007 Collector's Challenge

Let's see...

January = $53.91

Stuff I bought:
30AC White TIE Fighter (1 opener)
Target Exclusive Ambush on Ilum Battle Pack (1 opener)
Target Exclusive Betrayal on Felucia Battle Pack (1 opener)
Internet Exclusive Republic Commando Delta Squad Box Set (1 opener)
Previews Exclusive Death Star Briefing Box Set (1 opener)

Once again, I managed to offset the cost of the loot I bought by selling some extra stuff off my 'for sale" list.  Man, it feels good to start the year off with a month well under $100 (unlike last year - thanks to Kubricks, Jan06 was $350+).    :)

Next month will be quite a bit higher I'm sure as Wave 9 and the Wal-Mart wave start to surface around here...  :-\

January added up more than I thought/hoped it would, especially with not finding any SW figures this month (aside from BPs).  Darn those "other" lines.

January
TSC Darth Vader's Sith Starfighter
30AC Target Exclusive Ambush on Ilum BP
2 Hasbro Marvel Legends Figures
1 DC Superheroes Figure

Total for January=Approx. $75.00

Just a general question as I haven't done this before and I couldn't find this 'rule' in the previous challenges.  Are the novels (Allegiance, Path to Destruction) and coffee table books (SW Chronicles, etc)exempt from this?  I know that I can't count comics and tpb's, but I just want to make sure I don't miss anything.  Thanks.

My understanding is that the rule has always been that you can count whatever you want to count.

As for my monthly total:

January:
Family Guy Volume 4
TSC Imperial R5 Droid
Nirvana CD
Rise Against CD

Total: Approx. $50

That pretty much sums it up.  Include whatever you feel belongs in your tally.

Sounds good, thanks for the input.  That brings me up to $245 for the year.  I had no idea I could spend that much in such a short time.

- (2) Bearbrick ser. 13 Blind Boxes $20

Total for month: $125.00

Total for year: $302.13

I didn't buy a single figure this past month in a major retail store. It's been a Comic Shop/Online month for me. That will probably change next month once the 30AC figs start hitting...

Let's see...

January = $53.91

February = $108.14

Year to Date Total = $162.05

Stuff I bought the past month:
2006 Saga Coruscant Wave (1 opener)
2006 Saga Final 22 [aka Wave 9] (8 carded and 6 openers)
2006 Saga Wal Mart Wave (5 carded and 2 openers)
Star Wars Galactic Hereos 2-Packs (4 openers)

I picked up 22 figures (13 carded, 9 openers) and 4 new GH 2-packs, so it was a busy Hasbro month, but I still came out pretty well for the month thanks to the continuing purge of old crap.  Eventually though I'm going to run out of old stuff to sell...  :-\

March should see the arrival of 16-20 30AC figures, but hopefully I can keep things around the $100 monthly budget...

A little spendier this month...

February Total=84.02

I picked up 8 figures from the "Final 22", 1 Galactic Heroes 2 pack, and 1 white deco TIE fighter.  Aside from any extras (Elite Corps/Appo) that I might happen to find, the rest of that new GH wave, and a Tantive BP, I'm caught up until the 30th AC starts hitting (hopefully this month).

Jeff, when you sell something from your collection do you subtract that from what you spent? I haven't had a chance yet but I may be unloading some stuff starting this month and I want to keep my totals accurate...
Title: Re: The Great 2007 Collector's Challenge

That's generally the rule.  I never bothered with doing so as it's more fun to see what you actually spend in total, if only to shock oneself.  I think subtracting what you make on the side from liquidating toys is totally fine though.  If I ever thin out my collection, I won't be spending any money anymore ;)

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I didn't subtract last year even though I sold probably double what I spent. Maybe this year i'll subtract and see how it evens out...

I subtract the old stuff I sell, because I see it the same way I see a trade.  I get rid of an old item and get something in return for it.

I'm trading old stuff for money, and then I trade that money for new toys.  I do only deduct the cash for selling stuff IF I use that cash to buy something.  If the cash from selling old stuff is used for something else, then I do not count it.

I stopped counting at the beginning of 2007. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing....but it's all I could do to take my mind off the fact that I spend too much on Star Wars stuff.

Has anyone else quit counting?  Or has the counting changed anyone's habits?  I haven't visited this thread in a long time....but it's a question I've had on my mind every time I DON'T tally something up now.

I have to say that I'm one of the people who has been keeping track that has taken something from the past couple years.  I can't believe how much I spend in the course of the year, and I'm doing my best to cut it back considerably this year.  I even stay away from the majority of the higher end stuff, and I know my totals are towards the low end in this thread too usually, but for us - its still too much.  With a wee one on the way this year too, things will have to cut back even more I'm thinking.  I really enjoy collecting, and there is so much more that I'd like to collect, but it is heading towards being scaled down to just my absolute favorite (and cheapest) things.

After posting in this thread the other night, despite my better judgement, I went back and caught myself up to present day (with credit card receipts and my Rebelscum PM, it wasn't that hard).  Turns out I have about half as much from Jan-March of this year as I did in the entire year of 2004.  I thought about it for a moment and then decided to tell my wife, who shook her head at me.

SO....right now, I'm not exactly enjoying this whole "collector's challenge" thing....but I am once again a participant.   ;D

Mine does that right after rolling her eyes.  ;)  But at least this year I'm making an effort to sell extra things to bring my overall expenses down.

I always get the rolling of eyes from the better half. You should see the look I get when I mention $8000. for a rocket Fett is a good deal.  :-X  ;D

Well, my wife is a fan too, and helps me a lot with my collection, so she knows when I'm getting good deals and when I'm not.  She's also the driving force behind the Star Wars room in our house (she did Visio drawings of it at work before we ever built it).  She picks up gifts for me from time to time, this Christmas it was the Sideshow Grievous (didn't get the cape though, darnit).

While she's down with the collection, I think she secretly hates when I buy things from lines that she doesn't like.  Like, she absolutely hates the bust ups.  She also doesn't particularly care for the new Unleashed (I actually quit those recently) or the Burger King toys.  When I was buying Burger King toys, she just didn't get that at all.

She Loves the Galactic Heroes, Gentle Giant, Sideshow...etc, etc, but she has a few things she just thinks are really stupid.  Whenever I buy those things, I notice she tends to ask "how much were those?" more....

 ;D

Don't be so anxious my young padawan, it's going to change the way you think about your collection. At least for awhile anyway. Sometimes I look at mine and think "Wow, I've spent enough to pay for a car".  These are TOYS.

Stuff like that.

March was a great month for me - I only spent a net total of $27.16!  8)

Gross spending:         Net spending:

Jan - $272.33             $211.59
Feb - $264.15             $117.98
Mar - $376.21             $ 27.16

Let's see...

January = $53.91
February = $108.14

March = $195.78   :(

Year to Date Total = $357.83

Stuff I bought the past month:
30AC Wave 1 - Revenge of the Sith (8 carded and 10 openers)
30AC Darth Vader with Coin Folder (1 carded and 1 opener)
30AC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack (1 opener)
Target Exclusive 30AC Order 66 2-Packs (6 openers)
REAL Action Stands (50)

I picked up a giant pile o' Hasbro loot this month, the busiest month I've had so far.  I went way over my monthly budget of $125, but luckily I am still on target for the year thanks to that slow January start.   :)
Title: Re: The Great 2007 Collector's Challenge

January Total=$75.00
February Total=$84.02

Total for March=$185.48

Year to Date Total=$344.50

This month was definitely on the high side for me, much of that due to buying some non-SW stuff (Spidey).

Stuff I bought this month:
TSC Clonetrooper Sergeant
TAC Basic Figures - 5
TAC Vader w/coin album
TAC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack
TAC WM Exclusive Treachery on Saleucami Battle Pack
Galactic Heroes 2 Packs - 2
Spider-Man 3 Action Figures - 6
Spider-Man 3 SHS - 6
Spider-Man 3 WM Exclusive Black Spider-Man

Hopefully next month will be slower, but I was fortunate enough to find a couple more TAC figures on Sunday and the Bantha should be arriving today, so that's not a good start to things.  Man, there is a lot of stuff this year :).  I'm nowhere near my goals for average month spending, so something is going to have to change.

You guys really need to diversify, you know that?  Maybe add some statues or something else along that line.  Sheesh.  One Sideshow statue and I've passed your annual spending to date ::)  Gentle Giant is evil.  Medicom is evil.  Only good thing of late is Hasbro took over Marvel Legends/Spiderman lines and I haven't laid out a penny this year on that stuff.

January = $53.91
February = $108.14
March = $195.78

April = $186.39  :(

Year to Date Total = $549.87

Stuff I bought the past month:
30AC Capture of Tantive IV Battle Pack (1 opener)
30AC Jedi Training on Dagobah Battle Pack (1 opener)
Target Exclusive 30AC Betrayal on Felucia Battle Pack (1 opener)
Wal-Mart Exclusive 30AC Treachery on Saleucami Battle Pack (1 opener)
30AC Star Wars Galactic Hereos 2-Packs (4 openers)
400% Kubrick Shadow Stormtrooper (1 opener)
DC Mini-Mates Green Lantern/Star Sapphire 2-Pack (1 opener)

Another month over the $125 budget.   :-\

While I struck out on the 30AC basic figures this past month, I did manage to grab a pile of clearance price Battle Packs along with the Wal-Mart Saleucami set.  The real star of the month was the 400% Kubrick figure, which accounted for just a bit over half of the month's spendings.  Damn my Kubrick addiction...  ::)

January Total=$75.00
February Total=$84.02
March Total=$185.48

Total for April=$178.15

Year to Date Total=$522.65

Bought this Month
9x TAC Basic Figures
1x Bantha w/Tuskens BP
3x Order 66 Packs
4x Galactic Heroes 2 Packs
2x Comic Packs

Overall, a higher month for me, with a lot of Star Wars finds this month for once.  I don't think I bought any "other" stuff, and stuck basically with Star Wars this month.  It seems that although things have been a tough find, the releases have been fast and furious lately.  Although, when I think about it, the only Wave 2 TAC figure I actually bought in a retail store was, surprisingly, the McQuarrie Boba Fett.  Everything else (for basic figurse) has been online basically.  Again, the pace is going to have to slow from here on out (I hope).

OK so i decided to revisit this  ::)

January = 711.00  :o :o
February = 463.00 a little better (360.00 was for Sideshow Jabba)
March = 398.00
April = 382.00

OK so January was insane. Alot of stuff from Japan came in that month. This month is going to be a big month was again becuase of more Medicom RAH figures and the Celebration IV exclusives.
Anyway,
year to date ===== $1954.00  :o Am i worst so far?

EDIT-------

Ok i totally forgot about my vintage purchases. That doesnt include the Glasslite C-3PO, vinyl Jawa, and random other vintage Star Wars i have bought. I think bumping everything up another 500.00 is fair to a new grand total of

$2454.00

Well, I'm way down from a couple of years ago Dan, but I'm no Brian or Jeff.  I don't think I've spent what you have, but easy a grand this year already, probably more.

I've really toned it down though: no more army building; I'm caught up on Kubes; I haven't bought anything vintage for a while; I canned two  (3?) consecutive Sideshow statues; marvel legends are drying up; sportspicks are seldom purchases.  Still, there's Hasbro's basic stuff, Gentle Giant stuff, titaniums, etc.

I just prefer to not count anymore :-X

I know how you feel. I had quit counting for awhile, but I started tracking again and I'm spending more and more each year.  The worst thing is although I'm making great progress with my Star Wars room (pictures coming soon)....more than half my collection is still in the package because I'm running out of shelf room.

I may have given you a run for your $ so to speak, but after looking at Jan and February, totalling my Saga2 purchases from last year, and looking at what Hasbro had planned for '07 I freaked. As much as I like some of the things coming along, I bailed on the basic line. Hundreds of figures per year is ridiculous, anniversary or not. Kubricks are the soul of my collection, the rest is being drastically reduced. I've already started saving money on gas, but I feel a little lost without the hunt.  I'll still pick up a few items here and there, but for everything I pick up, three will go away. I want my collection 1/2 of its' former size before the end of '07.

With the nearly $2000 I dropped rapidly building a collection of Gentle Giant Mini Busts this year, it's a damn good thing I'm not participating in this little event.  I'd probably quit collecting.  I've got to be around $3500 for the year between modern, lego, vintage, and gentle giant.

May = $262.53  :(

Year to Date Total = $806.75

30AC Star Wars Comic Packs - Wave 2 (3 openers)
30AC Wave 2 - Battle of Yavin (6 carded and 7 openers)
30AC Wave 3 - Tatooine (5 carded and 1 opener)
Kubrick Star Wars 2007 Box Set (1 opener)
Target Exclusive 30AC Order 66 2-Packs (1 opener)

Another month over the $125 budget... waaaaay over this time around.  :-\

Man, I bought a TON of stuff in May, and I'm not even counting my C-IV exclusives because I haven't paid the guys for them yet.  That means that I'm already 1 day into June with about $80 in C-IV exclusives already, plus a Vintage wave case and Wave 3 case due from New Force.  Oh well, at least I managed to get a few months in below budget this year.   ::)

March - $185.48
April - $175.15

Total for May - $16.97

I didn't make an effort to sell anything this month, except for my Miniatures AT-AT, but overall I kept my spending to a reasonable amount.  My primary expenses were 7 30AC figures, a vintage Micro Bespin Gantry, a couple Galactic Heroes and a few other odds and ends.

Are you factoring in ebay fees, if that's where you're selling?  Cuz you should be if you're doing it the way you are by working out a net amount.  Having the ebay fees go to your credit card and not appearing in your balance is cheating ;)

I wasn't planning on spending so much on figures this year.  I still have my stormtrooper helmet, several Sideshow dolls and a few busts from GG to add to the total this year.  I am sure to go over my estimated $2,000.00 (unless I can convince someone to give me my helmet as a Anniversary or Christmas gift  ;) ).

About 3,000.00 dollars over the last year, uptill now.  And believe me I could have spent more but I am nearly upto date on the figures I wanted (I wont say need because in reality I dont need them).  Its good to be able to use Amazon UK with a UK Address as sometimes you can score cheaper figures over there, especially when your playing catch up.

I'm nowhere near that ballpark this year, thank goodness.  I don't think I made all that much progress in slowing down last year, but this year was a lot better.  I think I only bought one Master Replicas item all year.  I did do a fair bit of Gentle Giant stuff, but all told I think that's maybe a grand at the outside.  Kubricks were sparse and I had a good connection so my prices were low.  I only bought a single Sideshow item too.  Hasbro was really pretty small in comparison and the other lines were pretty minimal as well. :)

A total year to date for my collecting is up to $3268.37. Not to much but I know it will be more before the years over.

I'm pretty proud of myself, I managed to cut my costs way down this year, only one month to go.

 Net Spending        Gross Spending
 $2,305.11             $4,690.63

(Which means I managed to sell $2,385.52 worth of stuff.  Woah.)

For 2007, I spent $5067.63, but sold $2385.52, for a net spending of $2682.12.

(the numbers don't match up perfectly since I subtracted eBay costs in my selling profits)

I've definitely toned things down since I first started tracking my expenses:
2006 - $7960.96
2005 - $15106.89  :o

I got kind of lazy with the monthly updates, but my final damage for 2007 = $1823.58

2004 - $1596.98
2005 - $2354.81
2006 - $2995.42
2007 - $1823.58

Yay!  A significant decrease from last year (mostly due to giving up carded collecting)!

Hopefully 2008 will be even less...   :)

Star Wars stuff - $2,652.16
Other stuff (Marvel Legends, GIJOE, Cars, etc.) - $621.26
Grand Total - $3,273.42

A bit more than last year, but overall not too bad.  2008 should be less as I don't forsee getting much Hasbro product, don't plan on getting the prequel Kubricks and most of the backtracking for new lines I started (character keys, animated maquettes) are completed.

I ended up on the positive side when it was all said and done, around $1300.

I cleaned out quite a bit, and the big ticket pinball machine going out the door made me positive for the year. The collection definately changed: I sold a bunch of extra kubs and prequel items, plus most of the gentle giant collection. I picked up more TAC than I exptected, but a good portion of that was due to a local target having that at 2.99 for a couple of months. Overall I gained some floor space, closet space, and still have more toys than 10 grown men should own.
