I figured Han would be the first figure in the Heroes of the Rebellion line, but I didn't expect it to be the Bespin version.  Kinda makes sense since his ANH outift was used for their Premium Format statue.

I guess I know what I'm doing next Friday!

I am guessing a Mynock will be the exclsuive extra. If it is, I really hope to get in on the exclusive.

Yeah, pretty nice.  I like the breathing mask accessory.  I hope that is not the exclusive accessory though.

Damn.  I'll be away on vacation next week and have no idea where I'll be on Friday.  Are these 1 per customer?  If not, can someone please be kind enough to add one to their order for me.  It'll be much appreciated.

Yeah, pretty nice. I like the breathing mask accessory. I hope that is not the exclusive accessory though.

They don't usually show the exclusive accessory until pre-order day, so I think it's safe to assume that this will be a standard accessory.  Although it's called Bespin Han Solo and not Space Slug Han Solo, so who knows.

I'm going to be gone next Friday as well, but might be back in time to order....I'm hoping.  This will be my first ordering experience with Sideshow, so hopefully it will go smoothly.  I'm really happy to see that Han Solo is the first figure for the Heroes fo the Rebellion line.  I'm a little bit surprised it isn't his ANH outfit, but I don't mind at all.  I was always a fan of the Bespin Han Solo look anyways, and I really hope this figure will be as great as all the previous Sideshow offerings.  I wonder when this figure will actually ship, fall or later in the year?  To be honest, I'm kind of surprised at how many figures we've seen from Sideshow already this year, not that it is a bad thing.  I just thought they'd be a little more spread out than this.  5 figures now revealed, in the first week of February.  I like how they are running this line as well, going all out with sculpt, packaging, and accessories....providing previews and several good looks at the figures on their website, and they really seem to be catering to the collector overall.  Hasbro could take a few notes.  We usually see pics of their product via EE or some other online resource first, and most of the information seems like its national security sometimes :P.

I can't really tell and I think it is because of the mask?  I know there is a big issue with the eye color at the other website.  I don't think he looks 100% like Harrison Ford obviously.  To be honest it is probably good enough for me to consider buying it.  Not sure if I will though?  I wish they would just tell us what they are going to make for the year so I could budget better.  It's better for them not to say of course so that you want to buy and not skip any but still.

Anyway I think it's kind of cool that they went with a Bespin Han instead of ANH.  I kind of get burned out on all the Han ANH merchandise.

I'm not sure how you can really tell with his mask on.  I'd say it's way too early to be getting worried about that, so I'm going to save judgement until I see pics without the mask.

I sent Sideshow an email asking about the 1 per customer limit.  I can't find it in their FAQ part and since I never needed to order more than 1, I don't know.  I'll post the reply as soon as I get it.

For those of you who have ordered the previous figures, how long do they usually last until "sold out"?  I know it has been pretty quick for the most part, and I'm sure Han will be no different.  I'm only asking because I'd really like to be able to order one of these on Friday, but will be gone for at least the first part of the day.  I might be back to a computer by noon, but I'm not sure at this point.  Just curious how much time I might have.  Also, what page do we need to be on to place the order on Friday?
Title: Re: Sideshow 12" Bespin Han Solo
Post by: JesseVader08 on February 6, 2006, 11:33 AM
The exclusive version seems to sell out in a couple hours, but the regular version usually lasts a couple days.  So if you're content with the regular version (the only thing it won't have is the mynock), you should have more than enough time if you're back by noon Brian.  :)

To order Han, simply go to Sideshow's front page (or use the JD link (http://sideshow.directtrack.com/z/12943/CD996) to it).  While the exclusive is available, the front page will automatically direct you to their Priority Pre-order page.  Once the exclusive is sold out, the regular version goes up for sale and the front page will instead have a link to it in the news section.  If the link isn't listed, just pop in here and someone will post the link for you.

Thanks so much Jesse, I really appreciate it.  Sounds simple enough, and was probably a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure I had everything lined up so I can hopefully get one of these ordered on Friday.  I know some of you have had some headaches with the previous figures.  I hope to be able to get the "exclusive" one with the Mynock, but if not, I'll be happy just to get the figure at all.  It is supposed to be going up at noon or so, and I'm hoping to be back by then, so hopefully things will work out.  Also, I don't remember from the previous figures, but do the rest of the pics of the figure not actually go up until its up for order?  I thought that was how it was, but didn't remember for sure.  Thanks again for the info, and good luck to everyone on Friday :).

A mynock is too nice of a piece to only include with the exclusive - I'm sure we'll see it again somewhere...with someone else...

Here's the reply about ordering more than one Han Solo:

Dear Beth,

Thank you for contacting our Customer Service Department.

I am sorry; we do not yet have any information on our new 12" Han Solo
figure.  Our past figures have all had a limitation of one per person
for the Exclusive.   Chances are this one will be as well however, we
will need to wait until the item is posted before we will know for sure.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,

After the initial confusion and problems involved with ordering these, I wouldn't say it's a silly question at all.

Also, I don't remember from the previous figures, but do the rest of the pics of the figure not actually go up until its up for order?

That's right.  I guess it's all part of building the excitement (or stress?) until it's actually available for order.

Han is starting to look pretty darn good!

SideShow updated their blog (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/behindtheshow/?p=725) with the above image and also mentioned they plan to get Han's eye colour closer to the real thing.  8)

I really think the head sculpt looks pretty amazing too.  If the paint is on par, it could be a heck of a nice figure.  It was also refreshing to see in their blog that Sideshow says "we're not above admitting we are wrong" and they are changing the eye color.  A lot of companies don't seem to admit they made a mistake, let alone fix it, nowadays.  Han seems to be coming together nicely, can't wait to see the whole figure (and hopefully order one) on Friday.

There's no doubt that the statue's facial sculpt is better, but considering how much smaller the 12" figure's "canvas" is, I still this it's done well.  Those pics are a great comparison though, it seems like the 12" version's face is a little too chubby.

My wife had some surgery on Friday, so I was gone most of the day.  We didn't get back until around 7:30 or so, and after settling in and stuff for awhile, I checked on the page later on.  I obviously wasn't able to get the "exclusive" version with the Mynock, but I was just happy to be able to order the figure itself.  I saw the Mace announcement as well.  Doesn't look too bad, although I'm personally kind of looking forward to more OT figures.

Ayep, same here.  I know SDCC Anakin and Kit will be on my next statement and depending on when Han ships, possibly him as well.

Jabba's going to be the one that hurts, though.

I just got that e-mail as well, glad to hear it.  I'm looking forward to my first Sideshow 12" figure - and the first time I'll have seen one in person.  Still debating on ordering Bib, and I hope to preorder Leia on Friday just in case.  I'm not sure if I can continue to afford this line or not (without giving up something else), but I'm afraid I might regret not ordering the current offerings if I decide later on that I want to go all in.  I'll stick with the OT figures to limit it a bit, although those Jedi (and Maul) look great as well.

I hope Han looks better than he does in person.  Of all the figures that they've released, this one has me worried.

The face just looks off - a little too chubby IMO.

I CANNOT wait to get Obi Wan!  My favorite character from the PT, this figure will rock.

I'm bummed that I have to wait a little longer to get him.  That figure looks to be the best yet....well Maul looks pretty darn good too!

Unfortunately I can't get every SS 12 incher.  I did decide to pass on this one willingly.  It's a nice figure for what it is.  I like the outfit and maks accesory.  However,  I would rather wait to see what their ANH or Carbonite versions look like if they ever make those.  I assume they will eventually.

I thought the best part of this figure was the mynock.  That would have been the only thing to sway me to buy this.  But at that time you had to be on the computer the moment it was up to get it as an exclusive.  At that time they started these things during my work hours.  I can't buy stuff on the net from work (unless it's at lunch when I'm logged out).  So, it was a simple pass for me.

Anyway, again I think it looks good.  I would get if I had gobs of extra money.  I don't though.  Especially with that 12 inch Jabba on the way :)

I got my Han today and I like it.  I've been reading a lot of negative comments - his face is too fat, the jacket is too small, this figure sucks, etc.  I don't think the face is that fat and the jacket is a bit small, but I really think Sideshow has put out another top notch figure.  Looks great shooting at the Mynock.

Still waiting on a shipping e-mail for Han here, but that might be because I wasn't able to get online in time to order the "exclusive" version - so maybe the regular version isn't shipping quite yet.  Looking forward to getting my first Sideshow figure though :).  Glad to hear you like it Mikey, it seems like some comments haven't been real positive on this figure.
Title: Re: Sideshow 12" Bespin Han Solo
Post by: jadesfire on August 29, 2006, 07:42 PM
I received Han today and was pleasantly surprised.  Considering all the negative things I have been reading about his face, jacket, arm length, etc...I was expecting to ship him back.  Not the case...

First off, the face sculpt.  Like mentioned before, you have to have it in your hands to appreciate it.  It does resemble Harrison Ford but it is not spot on.  I think it's the lips because when I put the mask on, it looks like a picture straight from the movie stills.

Next, the jacket.  Mine is pretty decent.  I like the tight fit on the doll and I don't think the pockets are all that bad.  It's a hard item to sew (pockets) and they don't seem out of proportion or uncentered to their respective spots on the jacket.  The sleeves are just to the end of the arm and if anything,  the could have been a bit longer to cover the wrist joint when you pose his hands higher than his waist.

Finally, the "long/short" body.  I have no idea why people think this isn't the perfect body for Han.  I put all four dolls I have so far from Sideshow and he doesn't look out of place.  The articulation is fantastic throughout and I have no complaints about it.

Overall, nice clothing, great articulation and the exclusive Mynock is a blast to play with all by itself.  I wish the head sculpt was better.  I think the 18" one is perfect and was hoping that this one would be also but I am leaving his mask on so it'll do.   The blaster, belt and droid caller are his accessories and I can't think of anything that would be left out.

I have pictures up at my Webshots page (link below).

Solo, Han Solo.

Finally, was able to futz with Han.   Like most SSC figs, he looks significantly better in person than any of the online pics would suggest.

His cheeks don't look so bad, (strange that the box pics, looks really fat) in person.  His accessories are terrific, the detail on the blaster is amazing!  Two things that were a bit tricky, were when putting on his holster belt.  I had to take off his right boot to slide the strap on his leg, man was it a pain in the ass to get his boot back on, and the second was the hole to secure the bett buckle was kind of far off, and I had to pull on it a bit to make it fit in the hole.

Other than that, my only major gripe, was the right side of his hairline is not painted in very well, and it's kinda noticeable when looked up close, but I can live with it.

Overall very good fig, and likeness to the scruffy looking, nerf herder. :P

Well, Bespin Han arrived via UPS yesterday, so I officially have my first Sideshow figure.  I'm really happy with it and quite impressed overall.  Like others have said, the figure looks much better in person than online.  There were times looking at some of the pics online where I wasn't sure how great it looked, but now that I have it in front of me, I think it looks great.  After adjusting his shirt/jacket, and getting everything in place, he looks even better.  The detailing on the figures and accessories is top notch too, especially the blaster.  Also, although I'm not a packaging guy necessarily - I just have to comment on Sideshow's.  This packaging is really amazing, and definitely something to keep.  It really looks nice, and as others have said before, is quite collector friendly.  All in all, I'm quite impressed with my first Sideshow purchase, and I hope I can afford a few more in the future.

I've heard that a few times now.  Perhaps I need to track one down after all.  I mean, he's my favourite character from the Saga (besides Vader, of course  ;)).

I agree.  This packaging is just too nice to throw out, so I'll definitely be keeping it, which I've done with my Anakin and Kit Fisto.
