Title: The Black Series 3.75" - Wave 6
Post by: Jeff on February 15, 2014, 05:33 PM
Hoth Luke Skywalker with Wampa'd face
Hoth Han Solo
Darth Vader (Dagobah)
R5-G19

Originally I couldn't tell on Luke, but yeah his face is Wampa'd.  Looks good though.  Pics coming soon on Luke and the Droid.  Han and Vader will wait for SDCC (or sooner if they leak before then :P)!

I so wanna see the Luke...  Any word on brown/blue?  Brown I'm hoping, and Taun-Taun poseable.  :D

Nice, Doallyn somehow seems a little less exciting than expected, but a definite buy nonetheless. Finally a homeboy to chill with Rumsleg!

Are there some details missing from Doallyn's face?  I'm not sure.  But he will certainly be a welcome addition to Jabba's palace.

I'm always happy to have new Droids, so R5-G19 is a great news, if not a surprise.  Does anyone know where he's from in the saga?  Google wasn't too helpful.

Nice little wave.  R5-G19 is a little bit of a mystery.  At first I was thinking this was one of the droids from the ROTJ briefing room scene on Home One, but I'm not certain.

Any surprise is a nice surprise and Doallyn ia a nice surprise. But, at this rate, we'll have all or skiff guards for both skiffs by 2025.  :P

Doallyn is great. The droid was a complete question mark for me, too, so thanks on the background. Luke I expected. Wonder how Han will turn out... I really like what we have so far, so not sure what the take will be on him this time.

Since we don't have a brown coat that can ride a Taun Taun, I know exactly what my expectations are...  I REALLY wish Hasbro would go the extra mile and give it multiple headsculpts, or at the very least have it compatible with the existing TVC Han Hoth with the brown coat.

Looks like the starts of a pretty nice wave, anxious to see pics of the Han.  A new "Luke reveal" Vader is cool I guess too, although I was pretty happy with the one from the POTJ days as well.

Post by: Jesse James on February 17, 2014, 06:30 PM
A lot is riding on Han for me, for this wave.  Or should I say Han better be able to ride on a lot?

We got a blue coat that can ride a Taun-Taun...  I hope they go all out on a brown coat Han Taun-Taun figure though because that's a hole I feel is really glaring in my collection at this point.  That Blue Coat one from Target blows.  He'll go right to my fodder pile if this new one is everything I hope it is.

I'll be shocked if we get an all-new sculpt.  I hope this one has at least hood up and down headsculpts as well.  Must-haves for this character.

With all the rumors about the 12-to-36 potential figures coming this Fall, I'm not really sure on who all will end up in this wave now.

Looks like RS has some early carded shots of part of the wave...

#01 R5-G19
#02 Luke Skywalker (Wampa'd Face)
#03 Darth Vader [repack]
#04 Darth Malgus [repack]
#05 Starkiller (Galen Mark) [repack]
#06 Yoda (Dagobah) [repack]

No sign of the Hoth Han or Dagobah Vader that were rumored pre-toy Fair...  yet.

No doubt we're going to see more revealed at the Hasbro panel.  So far this is a lot of the same stuff we saw at Toy Fair, no?  Although I think the Vader may be a little different, since they're passing this one off as a ROTS version.  It's definitely not the TESB version that came in TBS wave 1.

I think the Vader may be a little different, since they're passing this one off as a ROTS version.

It's a repack of the ROTS Vader from Wave 5.  Easy to forget since everyone was so much more excited for SnowSpeeder Wedge, NOT Doallyn Skiff Guard, and Ree-Yees.  ;)

Like that R5 paintjob.  That thing sticks out and looks good to me.

Black Series cards are turd, no matter what way you slice it.  I thought for a while, "Eh, they're unique and different", but nah...  They're turd.

Thanks Jeff for the insight (both in this thread and the Wave 5 one)

It's actually getting quite difficult to keep track of everything that's going on - it couldn't be more obvious to me that they are just in absolute disarray over at Hasbro with how to handle this line.

You'd think but just looking around here I wonder if retail is where people are buying this stuff. Cases of 6 inch BS Stormtroopers, Fetts, Biker Scouts and Jabbas have been lingering since the reset.

Yeah I think what's left of collectors prop up this end of things online pretty much...  I know I only check the toy aisles when I'm in stores for other things.  And even then I do a lot of shopping on Amazon now.

I'm mostly buying on Amazon at this point...  Just easier.  I see stuff at retail and it's fun to walk away from it too.  Liberating.  The only place I've bought figures in the last year was actually K-Mart.  They were the only ones stocking TBS 4".  I've seen all 3 waves in some abundance, and so far nobody's put out 4 here yet.

Clicky to Go Order!

They're a nifty set of 6, and no retail hassle...  Been ages since I bought a toy in a store at this point, and I'm a happier collector for it thanks to little sets like this.

In addition to the set of 6 Jesse mentioned above, the case of 12 (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HSA5077F) is back on the website again as well...

I'm still not sure why EE pulled it off the site for a few weeks - don't know if they listed it too early and had to pull it or if they were worried about allocation or something, but it's back now along with the set of 6 half-case.

Thought I'd point out this story at SWCollector.com (http://starwarscollector.com/8-news/front-page-news/10401-head-neck-issues-of-the-black-series-3-75-26-03-darth-vader-figure-fixed.html) (which I first saw via Yakface).

After looking again at the one I opened last week, I can confirm that the #03 Vader does indeed have a taller neckpost.

As long as you don't get a bad head cast (like I did (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=23359.msg576645#new)), it looks like this new #03 Darth Vader fixes the "head falls off when you look at it wrong" issue.

10HTSDISC is the current coupon code available.

10% off.

It's a pretty good wave of repacks, and while I'm not a fan of Hoth Luke's overall figure, it does knock out the variation.  And I'll take an astromech any day of the week if it's one we don't have yet, so there's that.

Code HOLIDAY nets you free shipping.  All told, one probably washes out the other ultimately.  I miss 20% off and free shipping...  I'm sure all the whining about how things were packaged didn't help keep that going.

Kinda weird to give that specific code to enter, but it only works with certain toys, but then again HTS isn't exactly normal either.  :-\

I didn't see the deals (thanks to the Yakface twitter anyway!) until after I had placed my order. It came out to $39 after tax and shipping which is $13 per figure, not too outrageous and maybe $1-2 more than what I usually see on Amazon (and the only store still stocking 3.75 inch figures is TRU, which overstocked Wave 4, so they'll be sitting on Dagobah Lukes and Yodas until TBS ends).

Checked out TRU a couple of days ago. They had 11 R5-G19s and no other figures on the pegs. Where did they get 11 R5s? Someone must have dumped them here. Picked up StarKiller off ebay for $10.51. Considering ebay an paypal fees, I think the seller lost money on this one.  :)

I was able to pick up Luke and R5 this week, both are pretty nice figures. So is this it as far as basic (Black Series) figures for this year? Nice to be caught up, but it sure seemed like a slow year. If I were smarter, and would limit myself to just this line (and really, just OT), it would have been a pretty cheap year.

Maybe a solid case of the R5s got shipped to a brick-and-mortar store instead of staying in their online distribution center inventory?

I could be mistaken but I thought those solid cases of a single figure were for the online shops only so that they could specifically sell by-the-figure.

I got these from HTS.  Mostly because I wanted to bundle them with the 6" TBS Anakin and AOTC Clone Trooper and get free shipping.

Actually, I'm a little surprised and disappointed that Hasbro used the B-A-F droid parts for R5-G-19.  The R5-D4 mold was fine, and I would've been happy with that.  The BAF seems like a copout with those extra holes in the droid body.

After having never seen a single Starkiller or Malgus during their previous TVC run, I've now seen at least 10 Starkillers and 5 Malgus this week in the new blue TBS wave between several Targets and TRUs nearby.  Crazy.  I kinda wish the paint apps were identical to their TVC run, so I could skip needing to backtrack for their TVC openers.  Oh well.  Probably close enough for most (normal) folks though, fortunately.  Tons of the rest of this wave everywhere I've been lately as well (R5, Luke, Vader, Yoda).  When it rains, it pours, I guess.  Hopefully this pleasant (shocking) uptick in distribution lasts for a while, 'cause the past couple of years have been absolute ****...

The Malgus and Starkiller situation is beyond odd.  I've been seeing a fair amount of wave 6 at retail over the past few weeks, too.  And what's selling through fastest of all?  The Malgus and Starkiller reissues!!!!!!  You would think that *MAYBE* the first figures to sell through would be the new Hoth Luke and R5-G19 since they're new figures, but no.  It's Malgus and Starkiller!

Since I missed these during their vintage release, these were must haves for me.  I doubt I'm the only one.

My TRU is where R5-G19 goes to die. There are a ton of them here but no other BS figures.

I've always hated how Hasbro switched to the BAD mold for Astromechs. They feel really cheap and hollow, definitely not something that is worth the premium pricing. Of course I've bought every one (or nearly every one) they've released.  ::)

There was a time $11 for an obscure droid wouldn't have mattered to collectors, and they'd just be bitching they couldn't find one.  Especially at Christmas.   :-\
