The Vintage Collection / Re: 2011 "Vintage" Collection Wave 5

I picked up the death star escape Luke the other day, and I have to say, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. The paint jobs on the eyes varied a lot, but fortunately I had eight to choose from.

That looks excellent to me.  I would love if they did a pre special edition Wampa to go with it. One of the things I still can't stand about the special ed's is how the Wampa goes from having ears on top to none at all when he's chewing on that Taun-Taun bone.

Found the remains of this wave yesterday, just a bunch of troopers with yellow helmets, a couple of Han's  and a single Yoda which was the only figure I picked up.

It's a really strange little figure to me. It's very posable which I like, but the lousy paint job sort of trashes the figure. The feet and hands on mine look like they originally matched the head color, but were painted bright green for some reason and the hair looks like a bleach job.

I've been swapping round Yoda cloaks. The clone wars animated cloak on this one makes for a good AOTC version, while this cloak looks pretty good on the VOTC.

The Vintage Collection / Re: TVC The Phantom Menace thoughts

My main problem with the current Qui Gon is the size of the head. It just seems really small and I think the likeness could be better. The sabre is a really old mould too.

While there are a lot of things I like about Obi Wan, particularly the overall sculpt, there's a few things that bug me about him. The braid doesn't look great, the cloth part of his tunic is a bad color match and the common problem with the ankle joints again. His clothes in general look a lot darker to me than they were in the film, particularly his pants.

I agree with your points about Maul Jesse, I'd add to that an upgraded sabre and a head sculpted with his mouth shut.

I think these characters, would benefit from hip articulation, if Kit Fisto's got it now, I think we'll eventually see these guys sport it as well.

I think the figures from the original episode I range don't really stand up to todays standards, on top of that I'm not really satisfied with the current Obi Wan, Qui Gon and Maul.

I think something cataclysmic would have to happen for me to stop collecting, then again.... I quit smoking overnight after eleven years so who knows...

It's amazing what a lick of paint can do. The new colors of Obi Wan's clothes, ankle joints and the underside of his Jedi mullet being painted this time around are a real improvement. The sabre is cool too although I'd echo the earlier sentiment that an unlit hilt should have been included.

Kenobi's the character that I like most in the prequels, so this is a worthwhile upgrade for me. I'd like to have seen them go for a lighter shade on the hair though... and that goes for Anakin as well.

This wave finally hit the UK, I picked up most of them except for the blue guard, the SBD and Jango although I'll might pull the trigger on a couple of those guards at some point.

I'm trying to avoid buying Jango again until they make some upgrades. Color issues aside, sooner or later he's going to get Vizla style articulation. A gun belt with holster straps, a good helmet with moving rangefinder  and a better likeness of his mug underneath wouldn't hurt either.

I'm impressed with the figures I picked up,  they really look like some care went into them. I love the additional paint details on the weapons.

These sets are going for $30 over here in the Uk, so I only picked up the set with the Droids. The other packs just seemed to have really rough looking paint apps.

This was over a month ago, there's a real dearth over here at the moment. I've bought four figures total and we're a quarter of the way through the year... it feels damn strange.

The last wave we had in store was ROTJ but I only saw it once and then it vanished.

The Original Trilogy / Do you find it impossible?
« on: November 17, 2010, 04:07 AM »
When I watch star wars movies, at the back of mind, I'm always thinking about figures that I'd like them to make. Do you guys find it possible to watch the movies and not do this?

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2010 "Vintage" Collection Wave 2 - RotS
« on: November 16, 2010, 06:25 AM »
I'm late to the party, but finally got some ROTS figures last night and I'm really pleased with them. I felt like a putz buying a figure that has trouble standing for the sake of a cape but by some miracle this Grievous actually stands better than my previous version.

I haven't picked up the Sidious yet, but fully intend to. That fabric doesn't look anywhere near as bad in person. Not sure about the Cody, but if I was a carded collector he'd be a must.

I'd like to see the battle droid two pack ROTS style with a pilot and security droid. If they can make those arms swivel for a two handed blaster grip it would be a plus.
