Title: Bond, James Bond
Post by: Jeff on July 29, 2004, 04:54 PM
Have you guys hear about this?

I heard on the radio today that Brosnan is out as Bond and Orlando Bloom will be his replacement in a prequel-Era Bond movie?!?

MGM mum on Brosnan returning as Bond (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5550607/)

He's the reason my wife went to see the movie "Troy" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" as well as the LotR flicks.

Hey!  If it's true, then for once my wife will actually be the one to suggest a Bond movie and I won't have to waste one of my movie picks on it!  :)

I'm suprised that people who aren't from the UK are even in consideration.

My vote goes to Ewan McGreggor all the way.

Really, I shouldn’t give two craps- the last few Bond films have been awful… but it would be nice if the knuckleheads behind the new productions would at least give some respect to the franchise, some great craftsmen once worked on the Bond films (Ken Adams prod. Designer comes to mind) and it’s very sad to see our generation of dim-witted, cash-cow tipping lemmings take a big ol’stinkin’ on their creation. :'(

Orlando Bloom as Bond! Not!

ANI[ WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 2004 07:51:00 PM ]

LONDON: British actor Orlando Bloom actor has been signed by Miramax to play young James Bond in his new movie which is based on the college days of this widely popular secret agent.

There were rumours floating that Bloom is taking over the role of James Bond from Pierce Brosnan in the next film due out next November.

According to Ananova , Bond producers were looking for a new leading man and Bloom was the lucky guy who got the role.

Orlando Bloom is to play the new James Bond.

However, the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' heartthrob will not be replacing Pierce Brosnan as 007 - instead he will star in a movie about the suave spy' s younger days.

A source at Hollywood studios Miramax, who are making the film, revealed: "The story that Orlando will play Bond is true but we are doing a rather novel film about the young James Bond.

"The author, Ian Fleming, never really got into this period of his character 's life, but he did mention in 'You Only Live Twice' that Bond attended Fettes College, having been expelled from Eton.
Charlie Higson, who is writing the screenplay, has woven a wonderful tale around this." Miramax believe Orlando - who was recently tipped to take over from Pierce Brosnan in the regular Bond films - will be perfect for the role.

I"m a big Bond fan & this just... :-\

Wow that is an interesting turn of events...so Brosnan is Bond one more time and Bloom is Young Bond...

Agreed on McGregor, he'd be awesome

We had a thread about either Bond or things you never got into...Bond is one franchise that has little to no interest.  I liked Goldfinger alright but the others I have seen have all been so-so

My wife is a huge fan of the movies.  Hates Roger Moore, adores Sean Connery.  Likes George Lazenby, tolerates the rest.  Bond movies are automatic for us.

I'm less picky about Bond, with three actors covering my three favorite bond flicks: Thunderball (Connery); Live and Let Die (Moore); Her Majesty's Secret Service (Lazenby).

Now Jane Bond is a whole different story :P

Well, he was the only decent thing (IMO) about "Layer Cake", and was in the first "Tomb Raider". He's going to need some mega supporting cast, because otherwise he's the 21st century George Lazenby. Some virtual unknown who did a Bond film then got ousted.

Sony Pictures and Eon release official Casino Royale synopsis (http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?itemid=3632&catid=2)

Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond film adventure and stars Daniel Craig in his debut as "007." The film is based on creator Ian Fleming's first novel about the debonair and dangerous British secret agent.

Casino Royale introduces JAMES BOND before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to "00" status.

Bond's first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar, where he is to spy on a terrorist, MOLLAKA (Sebastien Foucan). Not everything goes to plan and Bond decides to investigate, independently of MI6, in order to track down
the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters DIMITRIOS (Simon Abkarian) and his girlfriend, SOLANGE (Caterina Murino). He learns that Dimitrios is involved with LE CHIFFRE (Mads Mikkelsen), banker to the world's terrorist organizations.

Some changes from the book, baccarat will not be the game but instead it will be Texas Hold 'Em poker. This movie is a prequel from the looks of it.

I am still a fan of the original Casino Royale  ;D link (http://http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061452/)

I think Craig offers a look at Bond from the angle that he is not 007 at the onset of this story. I could see Connery evolving from Craig's character (from a time line perspective). Hopefully,  Judi Dench is playing her character pre-M; otherwise it will be Sebastian Shaw all over again.

I know continuity through the films is suspect, but can someone explain something to me?

I've been sitting down to watch all of the early Bond films for the first time ever, in order. Why is it that in On Her Majesty's Secret Service Blofeld does not recognize Bond. Is it the Superman/Clark Kent's glasses disguise?

I thought it was a really good movie.  I, too, was skeptical about Craig as Bond, but I think he pulled off a "younger" Bond pretty well.  I heard the next one is supposed to be a true sequel to this movie.

I assume they modernized the movie a bit with the Texas Hold'em.  Since I have played poker, it was easy to call the two big hands though.

I assume they modernized the movie a bit with the Texas Hold'em.  Since I have played poker, it was easy to call the two big hands though.

he played baccarat in the book.  its a very simple game kinda like blackjack.  you get 2 cards and try to get closest to 9.  if you are low you can take 1 more. if you go over you are not busted out, but whatever the 2nd digit is, is your new hand (a 13 is a 3).

if you don't follow cards at all, the game is much more simple to pick up in a moment than poker,  but i guess with the innundation of the world poker tour,  everyone knows texas hold em now.

baccarat seems much more sophisticated and suave, and it has always been bonds game before.  i think it was pretty cheesy to switch games.

Marc Forster to Direct Bond 22  (http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5878)

Marc Forster will direct the 22nd James Bond adventure, it was announced today by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the James Bond films, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios.

Forster is the acclaimed director of the highly anticipated motion picture The Kite Runner, adapted from Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel. He also recently directed the comic hit Stranger Than Fiction for Sony Pictures. Previously, Forster directed the award-winning and critically acclaimed films Finding Neverland, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards® including Best Picture, and Monster's Ball, for which Halle Berry won a Best Actress Oscar®.

Forster will commence work shortly with screenwriter Paul Haggis on a draft of the screenplay by Neil Purvis and Robert Wade.

Daniel Craig will reprise the role of James Bond in the as-yet-untitled Bond 22 production, which follows Casino Royale, the highest-grossing film so far in the most successful franchise in motion picture history.

With nearly $600 million in worldwide box-office receipts, Casino Royale was also regarded by critics as one of the best Bond films yet. Bond 22 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios, London, in December 2007. Columbia Pictures will release the film worldwide on November 7, 2008.

Wilson and Broccoli said, "We are delighted that Marc Forster, with his exceptional talent and unique vision, has agreed to direct our next James Bond film."

Forster said, "I have always been drawn to different kinds of stories and I have also always been a Bond fan, so it is very exciting to take on this challenge. The new direction that the Bond character has taken offers a director a host of new possibilities and I look forward to working with Daniel Craig, Barbara Broccoli, and Michael Wilson, as well as the team at Sony and MGM on this new film."

Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, added, "We had a great experience working with Marc on 'Stranger than Fiction' and we are excited to be working with him again. He's an actor's director; he approaches material with intelligence and taste. What makes him the perfect choice for 'Bond 22' is that he will bring to this film all the elements Bond audiences expect -- action, humor, suspense, and thrills."

"The Bond franchise is one of MGM's most treasured legacies," added Harry Sloan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, MGM. "We share Michael and Barbara's confidence in Marc Forster's directing talents and support him in his efforts to continue the evolution of the Bond story for today's filmgoers."

Alicia Keys And Jack White Find ‘Another Way To Die’ For ‘Quantum Of Solace’ Soundtrack

Published by Brian Jacks on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 7:08 pm.

With questions resolved over who the latest eye candy would be, the final remaining piece of the puzzle concerned not who would be in the new James Bond movie, but who’d be singing over it. Now we have the answer.

The “Bond” filmmakers have revealed that R&B sensation Alicia Keys is teaming with White Stripes frontman Jack White on the theme song to the forthcoming “Quantum of Solace.” Titled “Another Way To Die,” the track will feature Keyes along with White, who pulls triple-duty as writer, producer and drummer on the collaboration that will mark the first duet in Bond history, according to the studio. The pair takes the mantle from Audioslave’s Chris Cornell, who performed music duties for 2006’s “Casino Royale.”

“Quantum of Solace” hits theaters on November 7.

New Trailer. (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/quantumofsolace/)

like the new trailer. Considering how long and drawn out Royale was, having a shorter movie isn't disappointing to me.

I can't wait for this flick to come out. I like the dirtier Bond. He's a Spy after all, all his job doesn't always afford the "right choice", but at the end, you still know it's Bond, James Bond.

Since Daulton took over as Bond, he has been grittier, and more action packed. I am happy that they have made him more of an action hero than some ***** jiggalo.

Loved the new Bond film. Some of the best actions sequences I've seen.

One heck of a big box office (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/) opening, $70,400,000.

I think the first two were way too choppy and too many quick cuts and shaky cam. Otherwise the movie was good though.

I'm not going to disagree about the style. Usually, that doesn't work for me.

Saw it today and loved it.  The fact that it was a direct sequel to Casino Royale was great.  Glad that Felix and Giancarlo Giannini's character showed up too!  I'd say I preferred the locales from CR a bit more, but a nice sequel overall.  Looks like Mr White may be the new Bond recurring villain, and how about that Goldfinger homage?  :-*

I was going to see that on Friday, but had to bail.  Not good at all?  What didn't you like?  I have yet to see the new Bond in action.

I'm not really a 007 fan but heard good things about this movie.  Lots of action/tech, but seemed more like a ripoff of TDK to me.  Not a bad thing though.  Played off well.

I'm apparently in the minority, but I was hoping for a continuation of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace... but what I got was basically a 2.5 hour excuse to introduce a new Moneypenny and SPOILER Judy Dench.

Bardem was disappointing too. He did a great acting job but I was expecting Chigurh part 2, and he ended up just being a prissy pants that wanted to play with Bond's crotch.

I recommend seeing it, and you'll probably like it since I'm the only person on earth who was let down.

I really liked Skyfall. Take it for what it is, a fun movie.

Saw SKYFALL this afternoon. It was okay. Entertaining. The action was good, the plot...less so.  Better than Quantum of Solace, which was almost all chase scenes.

Bardem seemed to be channelling the late Raul Julia at times, coming off as a tad campy. His character was too much like Michael Bean's from Goldeneye. It's like the well of villainry has run dry in the P.C. world.  There's so few acceptable baddie types left and their schemes have to be more grounded nowdays. On the other hand, at least there was no satellite weapon.

The films makes Bond seem old and tired, I guess to make him more vunerable.  Craig is in better shape that I've ever been in, but damn he does look old and tired at times. Not that I want him to quit, he's got at least 2 more films in him (both contractually and physically).

Anyway, I wasn't disappointed in SKYFALL, but I wasn't expecting much.

Pretty sure this just jumped to my #2 most anticipated movie of 2015 -

Cast, car unveiled for 24th Bond film 'SPECTRE' (http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2014/12/04/spectre-bond-24-movie-cast/19878511/)

Andrew Scott (Sherlock) is awesome.  Ralph Fiennes is awesome.  Daniel Craig is awesome.  The Aston Martin DB10 is awesome.

But Christoph Waltz as a Bond villain = MEGA-awesome.  :)

You left of Morena Baccarin as well.  I wonder what her role is going to be.  Seems a little old to be the main Bond girl, although I guess they had Halle Berry as a Bond girl when she was in her late thirties...

That's awesome. I think his performances in "Inglorious Bastards" and "Django Unchained" are about as good as it gets this century.

I think you mean Monica Belluci, she's topping 50 but she is hot as all hell.
I never get tired of watching her in a movie.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the Daniel Craig version of Bond and at least two of the three movies made with him.  Can't wait to see where they go with the Spectre angle.  It's funny because I saw an article yesterday where Craig was mentioning that he wouldn't mind seeing Blofeld show up again in a future Bond movie.  Maybe now he gets his wish.

You're right on both points.  My bad.

She is hot as hell, but you don't see too many "old" Bond women.

Looks like the young Bond woman is Lea Seydoux (https://www.google.com/search?site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=785&q=lea+seydoux).

Very true, but the Bond movie's initial primary market has long been the baby boomers.  The ass end of the boomer generation turned 50 this year.  So it makes sense from that standpoint, so long as they retain the younger eye candy as well.
