Hey, Welcome to JD's customs section. ;D

Sith Lord - Original looking. His face didn't seem too menacing until I saw the side of it, nice job on this one.

Vader Vs. Dath Maul Star Wars Tales - Pretty sweet. They'd make for a nice diaroma of some sort.

Other Vaders - Good use of refrence pics and different parts to make these Vaders look damaged.

ARCs - Very cool. I need to make me an SA ARC soon. Also like the ARC Commando. He'd fit in pretty well with all the other ARCs.

These are some great customs!  Well-done.

Painting the "screaming" Mace to look like Maul was a stroke of genius and is flawlessly executed.  That's my favorite, but the others are terrific, too.

I've never seen the Trandoshan before, but it's very cool.  :)

Thanks the screaming Maul is my personal favorite of all the figures I have done. Working on more SOTE and Heir to the Empire figures. Working 2 jobs right now so not alot of time to work on projects but I have really cool stuff coming.

Quality work all around, but I have to echo the common praise that the Maul with the Mace head is pure genius.

is that meant to look like ganner kreig?...if so great choice on the head its perfect for master kreig...well done...what did you paint him with?...it looks kind of glittery...but it could just be the photo...keep up the good work

Nice. What's the recipe? I can see the Jax body base, but what about the head and additional armor?
Title: Re: Tonphanan's customs
Post by: tonphanan on August 3, 2007, 11:01 PM
It's a little gritty beacuse I was sanding near the figure before the paint dried. I have another one in the works that won't be gritty.

The head is from the 21st Century soldier line. The pony tail is from the Chap Mei paramedic woman. The armor on the shoulders is casted from the Jedi Training Qui-Gon Jinn. The arm armor is casted from Captain Panaka's arms. He has Vaders gloves which ended up being too bulky and something I passed on for the second figure.

Ganner Krieg was the inspiration for the head choice. The body is an E3 Royal Guard.

Very nice. He kind of looks like the Terminator in a gray jacket. I really like the Imperial Knight with his additional armor pieces. The head is very kick ass.

New Imperial Knight. Not based on comic character. New shoulder armor based on an idea from Jokebofe.

Aahh, Prince Xizor. I'm miss Prince Xizor. At least someone has made a new version of him. I love everything about this figure except the sholder pads. They are far too high over the body. Have you considered making your own out of sculpty? I think it would better fit the body that way. I like the addition of the fabric for the sash. Are you going to make Guri?
Title: Re: Tonphanan's customs
Post by: tonphanan on September 2, 2007, 10:20 PM
I based Xizor on one that Delaton did at FFURG and was challenged to give him an emotional color hence the red dry brushing. I added the fabric to cover up the clay work I did to make him taller, plus it is a nice touch. The shoulder pad do stand out from the body, but I again based that on Delaton's and didn't see a need to fix that part.

I am thinking of making a Guri but not sure the best head choice. I am open for suggestions on that one. 8)

I took some liberties with it. I did not want to do the exact figure just the concept.

Maleval from the cover of Legacy

Closeup of head. I put the black around the eyes to avoid the whole shocked looked.

The robe is a pain to get on and off but here is a pic of some of his armor. The kama is a soft goods Vader kama and the robe is an unknown.

When it comes to doing Sith Lords from the Legacy series the challenge is trying to match the armor. Once I saw Koffi I knew that was the one I wanted.

Nice work on your latest one here James. Nice work on the part selection if really seems to match the source image very well. I like how you lined eyes in black to avoid the Malak syndrome. I've found when I do eyes I sometimes like to just line the top but I drop the line down to the top of the iris, rather than the top of the eyeball. Either way works just fine.

Post by: tonphanan on January 27, 2008, 10:19 PM
I was only going to put the black line above the eye, but was stuck with the shocked look still so I went all away around and was trying to avoid racoon eyes. On this one it came out well.

b]JOKER SQUAD[/b]

Sergeant Harkas
(http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c214/Tonphanan/008-5.jpg)

Sgt. Harkas is the leader of Joker Squad and was injured in the blast that killed Jes.

I made this guy once before and took the suggestion from that post and added them this time around. All of Joker Squad has dirty armor since thay have seen alot of feild time.

Body-TAC Stormtrooper
Head-BBI Paratrooper

Jes Gistang
(http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c214/Tonphanan/013.jpg)

Body-TAC stormtrooper
Head-BBI paratrooper

Anson Trask
(http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c214/Tonphanan/014.jpg)

Trask is the "Noob" of the team-hence the clean armor. Trask took the shot that killed Lord Maleval.

Body-TAC stormtrooper
Head- cast of B'Arin Apma with a hair cut
supply pack-parts of BBI backpacks

I like Joker squad because they showed a different view of the Stormtrooper we have known. They showed regular people, not clones, serving the Empire. The helmets in Legacy are not too much different than the standard Stormtrooper helmet so I did not add them to mine. I wanted the focus to be on the character.

Wow, you sure have been busy, James. :)

I really like your latest batch. I've not followed the Legacy series, but these all seem to be true to character (those I know anyways). That Kel Dors admiral is pretty cool. I really like what you did with the Zabrak Jedi too, that removable arm is a neat little feature. I thought that Sith guy, Kryat, had a darker colored armor? Though I could be easily be wrong about that. You did a great job sculpting his armor. Keep up the great work.
