Snow here depends on the lake and the winds and everything...  I'm not sure where you're from in Canada Morg, but you're North so I'm sure you get more consistent snowfall...  But our weather's been wonky the last few years...  We're used to it too though, and if anything all it does is make traffic bad (back ups), but that's it...  That's typical anywhere though.  Down south (Below the Mason/Dixon line) is where people really freak about snow.  I was in the Carolina's once when it snowed and it was like a national emergency...

The only time stuff closed here that I ever recall was in the blizzards that hit us that I mentioned, which there was no fighting.  That is odd weather though where feet of snow is dumped in a matter of a couple hours and then it plasters you again and again in waves, and I'd say at most you could expect something like that here once a year if that...  Where you're getting "feet" of snow anywhere but in the elevated areas (The mountains east of my area are often pretty plastered, and the North above I-80 which is getting near to Lake Erie usually has multiple feet days throughout the season).

The panic for food's always been this way though.  People act like they're really not gonna get out.  I don't know if it's the elderly or what...  I mean, my friends don't do this...  I assume they're a good representation of working adults...  My parents don't.  I do notice tons of old people, and like Deanpaul said, it's always the milk and bread...  I'd list Eggs and Toilet Paper on that too.

Why?  I have no clue...  Last night late at the store there were many old people there, out, shopping.  Usually the only people out that late are the younger folks, so maybe it is the elderly.  It just seems odd...

Eh, we got some snow...  Enough they told people to stay off roads if they can help going out.  Of course that meant I wanted Pizza and had to leave the valley I'm in to get it!  :P

hehe

There's a good thing on History Channel about the French Revolution...  It's itneresting to me, as this is something I really don't know much about so maybe you too will like it if you're snowed in with nothing to watch.

That's good points...  Are we allowed any protection?  What would be allowed?

Also, do these children have strong resillience or are they average 5 year olds who'll likely collapse and cry upon being struck down by my might?

This is great...  I'd dig seeing you actually doing this Stormtripper.  You're a big dude so that'd be great.  I'm picturing Sauron cleving waves of soldiers away like in the Prologue to LOTR.

Hmmm, but you can use one of them as a tool of destruction?

Interesting.  I'm gonna think on this one for a while.  I'm snowed in anyway, and this is the most intellectual discussion online in ages I think.

GH.com said something about the "original" Rebo Band...  I thought Boda was a SE character though...  Maybe I just misread that though, but I figured I'd chime in since I was curious about that.

I've been lax on the news here, I know...

Not a ton going on, though my area did finally see what I estimate to have been ONE case of the FW-190 and Spits...  Got neither, though I'd like the FockeWulf.

Onto better news, for me anyway, I found Steel Shermans and Tigers (well, one Tiger) on clearance at a WM I frequent that does probably the most volume of business in Pittsburgh.  I got the Tiger I saw (regular grey) and 1 Sherman leaving another that was broken I believe behind.

The Tiger, ironically, was only there maybe 4 or 5 months...  These didn't come out till Fall I thought.  Only one left and they clearanced it...  Seems silly.  The Shermans dwindled as well.

Also next to them were the little troop carriers (M113 or whatever?) with those horrid figures.  They all are the green ones, and they're clearanced for a great $39.96, haha.  Isn't that retail on them?  I dunno...

$15 Tiger though...  That's a wet dream as far as I'm concerned.  I don't care now that I didn't get a winter one.  I'll paint htis one up or my plastic version.

The Steel Tiger's a thing of beauty....  Love it!

Beyond that then, not much new here...  I'd love the BBI Mustang and Sherman but I keep hoping to see them at TRU, kinda like the jets...  I want a jet, but I don't wanna pay for it to ship here to my house.  :(

I'm not sure what else is new...  I know our man in the field at Toy Fair's (Jokabofe/Dave) is gonna try getting some info from BBI and 21st's booths as well as Dusty Trail's booth, but don't expect a ton of info since it's not Dave's specialty and I can't expect him to be too bothered with it.  I'm tryin' for us guys!  :P

Oh, and one big news bit...

The Marines have been up for pre-order a couple weeks now, but word on the Japanese is still sketchy and conflicting...  The marines are due to hit though, which is good.

I hate half those headsculpts at least though.  The figures look like works of art next to the sad sacks 21st had in the M113 box though.  WTF was that all about?  :-\

It looks, to me, like a distinct possibility Matt, however I can't 100% say that.

It also says "not final product" real clear though...  They could surprise with this, but I doubt it...  I'd wholely expect a reused sculpt of some sort...  I just think there's better ones than the 25th 2-pack to use, but that's me...

MOTS would've been my choice.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode III - Preview Figures (SPOILERS)

I started, then stopped, but I think if you just work the braids under the armor one at a time going around it, you'll pop the armor right off.  I do believe it comes off though...  Which rocks to me.

I love the figure though...  It's really great.

I like how he actually holds his rifle or just stands there, or stands howling, or runs, or whatever you want, and also you can have him AIMING his rifle like he's really shooting it...  I mean, it's such a minor thing to so many people but yet it's such a HUGE thing for the figure to do this flawlessly but still look great in many other poses.

That's what it's all about to me...  They nailed it.

Now if they'd do a Hoth Trooper, Fleet Trooper, ENdor Trooper, Scout Trooper, Snowtrooper, Sandtrooper, Bespin Guard, etc., etc., etc., etc. just like that...  :)

I'm all for the cap and ousting Bettman too...

I'd dig some rule changes once the supreme butt pirate of the NHL takes his leave.

He should have to run a gauntlet in every NHL city that's had a team since the 60's or 70's (whether they have their team or not).  Every fan's allowed to bring one stick of specific dimensions and they get as many hits as they can as he runs past.

Dumb ass.

Just to throw something new in for me I'd not considered...

We're getting snow, obviously, since it's creeping across the midwest to us now, and today we're looking at a fair bit...

I hate when people go to the store the night before and clear it out of things they don't really need (most likely) but think that they're going to need...  Like this snow's maybe gonna make the roads BAD (not even closed) for a day or two, and yet everyone thinks they're going into hibernation.

I just wanted some ice-cream to go with a desert I brought home from supper, and the store was ASS PACKED at like 11:30 at night with just tons of people going crazy and buying up tons of specific product.

I remember the "blizzard of '93" and the one in '96 too, and neither one really crippled my town...  Sure stuff closed, even businesses and state schools which took a lot, but my front wheel drive car STILL got me around to deliver my papers the first time, and the second time I still managed to drive to teh store for my mother.

I just don't get it...

Tripper, can you give more rules to the scenario?

IE: what are our limitations of movement, etc...

I think, if I went mobile, I could probably get many of them...  Possibly get away, unless that's not a possibility at all (Like they just keep coming from all directions).

I'm not a HUGE person by any means.  I'm 5'11" and near 200 lbs., and I do have some experience with boxing/striking training including how to fend off several people coming at me to escape them...

They're short though, so that's an interesting variable...

If they're really REALLY annoying too, you have to factor in potential "berzerker rage" you'd get by simply being so irate with them...  Like imagine they're kids from the show Nanny911 and you may be able to decimate their ranks quickly, efficiently, and without even feeling the sweat break just based on sheer adrenaline...

Do we get to use a large implement at all, or just fists?

I'm truly intrigued with this topic, and I laughed out loud when I read it too.  Nice.

Spuffy, I'm still searching.  Nothing found tonight (not a single '04 or prior figure on the shelves actually).

I'll let ya know asap though, after the snow's through and I can get back to a closer WM I feel sure will have stuff.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode III - Preview Figures (SPOILERS)
« on: January 22, 2005, 04:22 AM »
Got a set sans R4 tonight (One of the local guys just happened to be there scooping up the LAST R4, so we chatted for a few then parted ways).

I have to say, the Wookie is hands down the best figure out of the wave, and that's saying a lot because I'd say all 3 of the others are VASTLY superior efforts to E2's Sneak Preview wave, except perhaps the R4 compared to E2's R3 unit.

Anyway, the wookie simply rocks all.  He's huge, he has completely removable armor (at least it appears to me his body armor or jewelery would come off if you worked the braids around it), and he holds a rifle with TWO hands!  Yes, Hasbro has actually seen that it's important that a figure with a rifle hold it with two hands...  Nice!

My only gripes are the big squares cut out of the soles of his feet, the sorta mis-matched paintjob on the fur at every separate piece (the figure almost looks like it was painted and then assembled, rather than the other way around), and that his helmet doesn't fit him well (falls off, so better loose than too tight so it won't fit on I figure).  Oh, and his knee joints are VERY loose.  Mine are anyway...  They almost bow under his weight if posed the wrong way.

Still a grand figure...  Something to behold.

It does appear that they're packing Tion Medon and R4 less to a case too.  Not to raise panic, but R4's were all gone and Tion's were down to two when I got there while Wookies were all over the place as was Greivous.

I'm easily "in" on I'd say 10 more wookies...  Dare I say this is one of the best army builder figures ever made by Hasbro, so hats off.

Tion Medon's what I expected.  His cane's cool...  He has a rifle that, unless it's used in the film, is a bit out of place as an accessory...  He's really quite poseable for what he is actually, and he's a top-notch sculpt with great deco.  He's dull though beyond being kinda freaky looking.  (BTW, the Wookie's articulation is pretty nice too.  Shame to see Hasbro dropping ball/sockets for angle-cuts in some places, but he's still lightyears ahead of anything offered in 2003 or prior, save for a SA Clone).

R4 I only got a glimpse of so my opinion stands.

Greivous is odd...  His arms arne't as poseable as I can tell they could be, and as much as I'd like.  He's got a great saber though, and apparantly someone at Hasbro fibbed to all the people who asked for "single-piece sabers" to come back because he's got the removable blade going on.

His robe actually CONNECTS to his chest via pinholes in his chest (very small and unnoticeable) and 2 small pins on his robe.  Pretty nice.

He's still sporting a lot of articulation and 5 ball/socket joints which is great...  His saber seems like it was intended to plug on him, but I can't tell if it does somewhere.  He's a little tough to pose I'm finding, and I sorta am hoping for a more poseable one in the basic line.  If not, this is a happy substitute...  This guy gets you pumped for E3 though, lemme tell ya.  Makes you want to see him in action.  He just oozes evil, and I was one of the many who didn't care for the concept at first.

That's a mini review...  Figure goodness I tells ya!

I can buy that...  Especially if Wookie Age, which Lucas was pretty in on himself, is quite a long time, though Chewie's sporting a lotta grey come ROTJ, and even in ANH.

Either way, this guy's huge.  I just got the set this evening and he's easily the best figure so far.

Count me in on the line waiting thing...

Guess we'll really get to be good friends since we'll obviously be forced to stand with each other for such a long period of time.  :)
