How can you have head variants on Capt. Panaka? That's like saying make a Darth Maul with head variants  :P

Generic Naboo Officers dude! :)  There's more than Panaka throughout the flick, he's just the one that's gonna get us the generic white guy to go with him, and get offed in the hallways of Theed Palace.

First, you are a sheep Jared.  :)

Second, something Jason said,

Quote
While you do make some valid points, we also have to take into account where the production costs lie, will it be based on the single figure, or the full 4 pack of figures. But I don't know much on that front so I won't assume anything.

I personally think the key thing to it all, and the thing nobody's likely to ever know, is what the total production run is on this for EE.  They're touting it as "limited", and if it is then there's some legit explanation to the pricing there...  I don't think it's ENTIRELY an explanation, but it's a thought, and one we'll never get an answer to.

The other thing that's not really answerable right now, and likely ever, is:  Does MORE at a lesser price yield higher profit than LESS at a higher price?  A lot of times, volume's the answer.  More likely than not I'd say, but not always of course.  A lot depends on the product, and that very thought ties into what EE's said they'd commit to buying.

So many people who routinely say they're going to buy MORE of something are now saying "Ya know, one set's all I want", and some are even not getting in on this at all.

When you order a case with local buddies, the price is tolerable, but you're still screwed if you want more whites on this, and that will always suck.  It makes getting one set almost your only route unless you truly think $10-ish is a good price to army build at...  And the high price itself (IMO) defeats the entire IDEA of building armies.

Maybe Hasbro thinks people will go ape**** and just buy up stuff in droves at $10 per figure these sets, I dunno.  I can't justify it...  If I was wealthy, I suppose I would probably do it and be damned any thought of making a statement by not buying, but as it stands I was justifying VOTC Stormtroopers which I want probably 10x as much as these Clones.

I really think they're missing the ball on selling more for less, but that's me, and I can't prove that notion.  When dealing in something with such low costs in the first place (which this has to be), I can only imagine selling it in the highest total units possible (since that seems, to me, the logical way to go) would make more money.  I dunno.

Oh lord...  I will be lucky to even name 10 characters from TPM. :)

OK, my top 10...

1) Super Art. Darth Maul...  Break-apart saber with removable blades, and cloth Tatooine Cloak, of course.  If he pops apart at the waist, more the better.

2) Super Art. Qui-Gon Jinn...  Maybe they can get his likeness right this time.  Cloth Jedi cloak would be nice too, and a hilt for on his belt.

3) Super Art. Obi-Wan...  More the same as above.  Maybe this one's headsculpt will be nice as well.

4) Super Art. Naboo Soldier...  Yes, I asked for it.  A Naboo Soldier resculpt with SA, and a removable hat.  Head variants would rock as well.

5) Super Art. Capt. Panaka...  Captain Panaka resculpt with removable hat.  A head variant or two would be real nice as well.

6) Super Art. Naboo Royal Security...  The red armored dudes...  Head variants.  Reuse the E1 figure's helmet even.

7) Gragra/Swokes Swokes...  Love this thing.  Wanted the Pez dispenser even because it looked so good with the figures.

8 ) Generic Naboo Pilot...  With the trench coat, and removable helmet.

9) R5 Unit...  Either Jabba's or one of the Queen's, but I want an R5 unit somewhere.

10) Ithorian Senator...  Just because I can't think of much else.

BTW, I'd take any way to get the Eopie out because I don't have that either, and woudl like a couple actually.  I wanted to not go for Deluxe on my top 10 though, but that is definitely a good candidate to re-release somehow.

I agree on the scout.  Attrocious.

I'd actually like to see a DELUXE SA Scout come out with a NEW to-scale bike, (no features or anything, just a bike), and a clear stand it sits on for a hovering effect.  That'd be an ideal new item I think, but I'm not counting on it.  Just a wish.  I'd go up $5 on that one even I think.

I'd rather not see a 4-pack fo the POTJ sculpt...  Just like I'd rather not have seen a 4-pack of the Endor Rebel (POTF2 or Saga), or of the RFT (any head variant of it), etc.

If they dump out new sculpts in the regular line, and if they adhere to super articulating them (or coming damn close), then I think they are fair game for army building.  And at this point I think anything's fair game for a resculpt.  I'm not counting on it, but even the RFT, the Hoth Soldier, the Snowtrooper, and the Biker Scout are all potential to get new sculpts.

The 4-packs are just gravy for Hasbro then...  They're almost pure profit considering the primary costs will have dwindled, and only running production costs (which are generally minimal) would remain...  That's what's so extra irking about the Clones too.  They're almost pure profit.  They could sell for LESS than retail.

It's the same reason you get those 4-packs at Toys R Us, and when you break down the costs that are involved, they're pure profit...  Simple, easy to make, molds are there, you just put more out and the profit margin on every unit sold increases by a percentage.

Yet the SA Clone is being sold for $10-ish a figure unless you're in on a case.  It's not like they WOULDN'T profit off it at $20 per 4-pack, they just are sticking us thinking it will work to their benefit.  Will it?  That remains to be seen, and I can't say we'll ever truly know, because there's a lot of "Well what if they'd sold (x) ammount at $20-$25 a set insteady of (y) ammount at $30-$35 a set?", ya know?

Factoring costing on all levels to make sure you're doing what is ideal and most profitable is not a black and white job, believe me I know this all too well because it's an area of work I've enjoyed in the past, and I think Hasbro's missing the broader picture on this army builder set IMO.  They'll profit off it (They wouldn't produce any if they didn't have guaranteed sales that benefited them), but they could've done so much better I believe.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases

I think it's pretty safe bet Paul.  I think what we saw even leading into Christmas (Like the beginning of Dec. at least) was NOT new product, but rather old stuff just working its  way through WM's systems.

Target's been dead for VOTC in my neck of the woods since about mid-december.   TRU just never was the happening place for it.  WM screwed themselves by clogging pegs with ANH wave about 2 months after K-Mart and Target had already done sales on those figures and were moving into ESB.

20781
nothing is to say they WON'T do new sculpts and then do the army builder packs.  Remember, Hasbro said they're realizing the potential from army builder figures now back at SDCC I believe, and so we may see some good things here.

I'm anxious to see what they do AFTER ROTS now.

Color me impressed too, unless they're completely unposeable figures (as usual).

The outfits are pretty ornate though...  Maybe they're trying to redeem themselves on 12" figures?

I still wonder however, WILL they make the best profit possible, or would it be wiser to sell more at a lower price?  From what I see, even the die-hardiest of the die-hard army builders are NOT going ape **** on these.

I'd include myself in this, but I don't see the others saying "Yeah I'm gonna buy every set I can!".  It seems more that people are going in on a case...  I'm trying to get HALF a set on a second case (all BD variants), but at this point that's likely all I'd get, and only because I'm going in on cases locally with collecting pals.

I don't see people saying "Yup, buying up an army of 100 Clones" on this one though.  And with that, I truly wonder just what losses they'll incur with a set that, for all intents and purposes, should make army building affordable, and should sell TONS upon TONS of the white sets.

I have no doubt these will sell, but I do doubt if they'll live up to potential profit, and be "successful", especially if they're figuring these will sell as hot and as easily as the CT STormie 4-packs of old.  Oh what I'd give for the #'s on these at the end of things.

Who knows on the poster Vator...  SA's a better sculpt overall I'd say, but whatever.

More signs that Rebelscum's obviously Hasbro's research & marketing material:

Quote
Reasons for the higher price on these items:

1) EE always has higher prices (their shipping rates are the real killer)
2) These are super-articulated (I don't seem to recall many people on rebelscum threads complaining when they bought 20 or more VOTC stormtroopers at $10 a piece)
3) Limited quantities

The only reason the super-articulated clone troopers sold for $5 last time was because they were done in a low production as a test market figure.

I do not thing the price is that bad at all:
Figures $20
Packaging $5
Limited product(exclusive) $5
EE premium(always) $5
Total: $35

Anytime a toy company produces an exclusive(20,000 units) the per-unit cost is a bit higher than a regular production run(150-300,000 units).

LucasFilm is not ripping us.
Hasbro is not ripping us.
Entertainment Earth is not ripping us.
They are all just giving us a great product(that we ALL have asked for) for a decent price.

I love seeing the "expert" opinions.  Apparantly Hasbro released production information to just these two people.  Whew, well now it's all explained truthfully to us.   ;D

I don't recall.  I did notice him going to the toilet and I wanted to go in and leave a smelly steamer for him though just to gross him out.

Something struck me funny about knowing I'd have stunk Eddie Munster out of a bathroom, ya know?  Maybe I'm just easily entertained.

Anna's got that older hot thing going, when thinner (She's still meaty), and Jessica has that "she'd be easy to trick into doing something someone else wouldn't be easy to trick into" thing, and she's naturallly hot.

I dig Anna too, but thoughts of her being the fat pig she was will always loom.  When one plays Marry/F/Kill, you have to think that Anna would make the F list because she'd be likely to balloon...  Jessica gotta have more money too.

Who's on the kill list on that one?  :)  Meg Ryan?

He mods customs there.  As a matter of fact he PM'd me about something I was selling, showing interest, and never got back to me...  I hate when people do **** like that.

I took a picture with my phone-cam (I love that thing) at the local Toy Show back at the beginning of December.  This was JUST a Toy Show, I mean nothing else going on...

Freakin' Eddie Munster was there, signing stuff.  I don't know why.  He was the only guy trying to pawn off autographs, and he looked about as bored and inactive as that photo Carp posted.

Yeah, her dad talking about her cans is a bit much...

And his other daughter, the one nobody can recall her name, has more depth than Meg Ryan?  Now I'm not Meg Ryan fanatic...  But this is the girl who impromptu ho-downed on SNL when her lip-sync tape went arry...  And she's got depth?

You can only blame the girls so much before someone needs to realize that you have to put a gun to that man's head to truly end this cycle of madness.

I was listening to Stern before the holidays (they did a holiday special mocking the Nick & Jessica special), and an old intern for their show actually worked on the N&J special as a writer...  he was saying how the dad kept nixing all these ideas he had because he runs everything in their lives.

Too sad, and funny.

Anna Nicole, depending on which hemisphere you're in, you just can't help but notice sometimes. :)

I liked the idea for $35 for a 10 pack of bd's though.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat, so long as the droids were able to stand (didn't fall under their own weight), and were at least as articulated as teh AOTC version.

If half the set were red, and half white, that'd be ok...  Not sure how much I care on the colors at this point.

But Clones do need someone to shoot, so why not, ya know?
