Title: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: DSJ™ on April 15, 2003, 06:13 PM
So do you collect POTF coins? Do you have them still on cards or do you rip the sickers off the card?

I have only 4 that are carded. Luke Stormtrooper, Amanaman & Luke & Leia Poncho.
The rest are loose.
Crap, forgot to mention the carded EV-9D9. So thats 5 carded.

The one on the bottom left & bottom right are my favorites.  ;D

So do we have any collectors out there that collect these?

I don't have any of them.  I never really thought about collecting these, but they are pretty cool looking.  How much do those usually go for?  I know I could check 'em out on eBay, but you're much more valuable than eBay.

 ;)

Yak Face can go for $80. up. Anakin around $60. up.
The others around $5. to $10.
The Yak Face coin I got from Tom Derby at Cloud City. Minty Mint.   :)

I want to start, but finding the coins to fund coin collecting is a little tough. I know where I can get 2 loose (R2-D2 and Barada I think), but have had other priorities. While they are only $15 for the pair or so, I always have found higher prioritites.

I have just finished submitting an extensive (maybe beyond extensive) checklist of all known coins (rare, prototypes included) and it will go up with an entirely revised vintage set of checklists on this site in the near future.

And poor you, DSJ, only having 5 carded...

Hope I can say that someday. Vintage collecting is a dream, hope I can find the $$$ to fund such a paasion someday.

I never really collected the coins. I had some when I was a kid but never really held on to them. Now as an adult collector I think they have a certain apeal to them but they are low on my personal list of priorities. I have been looking at area shops for any cheaper ones and if I can add a few for little change I would pick them up.
Title: Anyone collect POTF Coins?
Post by: evenflow on May 20, 2004, 09:00 AM
I was just wondering if anyone collects them or has a complete set.

I finally completed my set of 62 about a year ago. I also have the much smaller Luke X-Wing coin with Yoda on the back which no one seems to know where it came from. A complete set of Droids and Ewoks coins.

Currently I am looking for the 63rd coin and some of the rarer mistake coins like Sail Barge, etc...

So any one out there have some of those really rare ones, ever seen them for sale, anything at all?

I'll just merge a past topic on this & keep it all together.  ;)

I have not collected anymore coins thus far.  :-\ Someday I'll have to get more. All in time. ;)

Sorry about that. Thanks though. I really love the coins, wish they would have made more.

Dale,

Nice topic.  Once I am complete with the "100" I have thought about starting on the coins.  My biggest concern is that I will look to complete the collection with the VHTF coins like the "Jedi Knight" & Cantina Creatures Coins to name a few.

There sure are some tuff coins and variations to get if you get started with these.  I imagine trying to get them in uncirculated condition (no scratches) will be an equally tall order.

The coins sure look nice!

Well, the coins are awesome. They are nicely done. Some are really tough finds, Hoth Trooper coin and the Skiff coin. Boba Fett coins are tough and over priced becuase of his poularity. As for the error coins, like "Hans" Solo or "Sail Barge" I don't have any and still am looking for them. I think this is a set that is worth completeing because alot of people don't have it. I feel the same way about the Droids and Ewoks (which I also have complete sets MOC). They are the less collected beauties that in the end are really awesome.

Speaking of a lull in the auctions & then they go up...

POTF Yak Face Coin C-9.5+ (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3193647164&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)

I paid around $80. for mine from Cloud City last yr & it was straight off the card & not a mark on it. I have never seen one go this high!

I have to say that is pretty high for a yakface but not out of the question for some others. Actually its a good price for some.

Very Nice!!!! The coins are an awesoem set to have because not alot of people have them, so welcome to the club.

Very nice display for the coins. How long did it take to complete the set?

Thanks for sharing.  8)

It took me 3 years to get all the coins, some were hard to come by, but it was fun  :)

Very nice, thats really awesome. I actually may do soemthing like that with my set seeinghow nice it looks. I think I am going to hold off though for the 63rd coin before I do any framing. I know i will get it eventually. Perhaps in 4 years when I finish getting my MA and Ph.D. Here's hoping to finding a job and having some spending money then ::) and not being broke the way I am now

As for time, it took me a while as well, probably 2 years. Some coins are just so hard to come by.
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: Carl on August 4, 2004, 03:13 AM
Well I had the frame made for 62, so I have no plans to the 63rd coin, out of interest what where the hardest coin you found to get hold of?
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: evenflow on August 4, 2004, 10:25 AM
Well i think the hardest ones were the Skiff coin and the Hoth Trooper. They are pretty tough. The Hoth Trooper coin was the last one i got to finish my collection. Boba Fett is not really a tough find, but is over priced all the time so i waited til i found one at a reasonable price. How about you, what was difficult for you to find.

I also have this smaller Luke X-Wing coin that pops up every one and a while. I am sure someone has a pic of it. I have read alot about it and most people have no idea what it was going to be used for. Its the same Luke X-wing as the POTF coin, but the back has a different description and a little Yoda. In my eyes it is another POTF coin, so i figured why not it didnt cost much.

Post by: Carl on August 4, 2004, 10:57 AM
The two that I was waiting on for nearly 6 months was Luke Hoth and Greedo, I got sailskiff and Hoth trooper early on for resonable prices, the only other coins I have are the ewok and droids series.
I thought about collecting Prototypes but I had enough after 3 years and wanted to go back to vintage moc.
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: evenflow on August 5, 2004, 10:33 AM
Well I have all the Droids and Ewoks coins as well because I have a complete set of the figures MOMC. I have both versions of C-3PO as well.  I keep hearing about a gold Droids POTF version of the R2 coin but have yet to see one.

I also have the 3 coins that came with the bendy figures a few years back.
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: Carl on August 5, 2004, 10:44 AM
the only droids coin i need loose is the A Wing pilot coin (loose)I thought about the droids prototype coins but I have decided against  it, because it could get expensive, so I decided to avoid variations all together. the 3 bend em i havent bothered with.....yet!
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: evenflow on August 5, 2004, 06:15 PM
I hear you about the prototype coins, it can be really expensive. It wuld kill me to have the coins with out the figures anyway.

As for the variations, I would like to pick up a few of those but have never come across any.

keep looking on ebay, variations and prototypes are always poping up now and again!

Oh yeah, that's why I don't collect the coins.

I liked his instructions though, pretty direct fellow.  I'd be happy dealing with him/her.

Oh yeah, would be very cool.  But a year + of chasing vintage on ebay has tired me right out.  It's a nice thought and if I see some cheap, I'll pick them up.  Amanaman is lonely.

Ah, OK, I gotcha.   ;)   I'm a little slow some days.   ::)

Currently I am looking for the 63rd coin...

I checked out The Archive (http://www.toysrgus.com/images-coins/coin-chart.html) and see that there is also a Jedi Knight coin.

So it's 63 coins.  And that doesn't even include the Ewoks and Droids coins.  Plus variations if you really wanted to get into it.  Yoiks!

Nice collection, even some on the cards. Are you going to get a set of the carded one's loose?
Title: Re: Do You Collect POTF Coins?
Post by: evenflow on September 17, 2005, 06:24 PM
Cool, thanks. Well i have all 62 coins loose in the set there. The Droids and Ewoks ones, I am happy with them carded. The loose Droids coin is the gold POTF C-3PO which I would actually like carded. (The carded 3-PO has the Droids coin) The loose Ewok coin is a Dulok becuase the carded one actually came with the wrong coin. The other 2 gold coins are from the bend-um figures that came out a few years ago.
