My question: Why? Why the heck would they do another Silver Vader? Just to appease everyone who missed out on the original (and different) one? If so, I guess that's kinda nice of them, but will folks really consider this an adequete substitute for the real thing? Strange...
But sign my silly butt up for two more! :P

My guess is that it's yet another OT DVD promotional tie-in. My guess would be TRU, since they got the silver R2 and Clone Trooper. As things stand now, the Silver Sandtrooper is the Fan Club's domain. I can't see them taking on another silver exclusive figure so soon.

I don't know what to say... thanks to a TRU snafu that delayed the Clone Trooper til this spring, we could end up with THREE of these lame Silver figures this year (Clone, Sandtrooper, Vader). >:(
I'd bet too that he'll be a TRU exclusive just like most of the others since the bubble sticker looks like all the other TRU ones. Of course, because I have no power to resist, I'll end up with one of these Silver Vaders, but Arg! Enough already!

Horrible looking figure!!! I guess what's really disturbing is, #1 the lightsaber is painted, and #2 is the figure looks like it was spray painted or painted with a flat grey paint. Nothing even close to the first Silver Vader.

These silver figures are getting stuipid. Toy Fair Vader and Silver R2 should of been the only ones since it was for the 25th anniversy of ANH. Now we have a Sandtrooper (okay they were in ANH), Boba Fett (SE. ANH), Clone Trooper (Why?) and now another Vader.
I wonder if this is an attempt from Hasbro to give those people who complin about not having a TF Vader a chance to own a Silver painted Vader.

You know, these might be a little more interesting if they were chrome like the first Vader and R2 were. Those were pretty spiffy.
I'll probably get it if it comes to TRU. I'm kinda stupid that way.

Reports are coming in that the Silver Vader 2 is already in the TRU computer system for this fall...
Should be the same gimmick as R2 and the Clone Trooper, buy x amount of SW swag and get a free figure.

This has been confirmed by the Official Site (http://starwars.com/community/feature/20040720/indexp8.html) as a TRU exclusive...
"Another "Silver Saga 2004" figure -- Darth Vader -- will be available later this year through Toys R Us. "
I would image it will be the same deal as all the rest of the TRU Silver Figures...

i thought the silver sandtrooper was supposed to be the last silver figure?? and why make another silver vader? why not someone else? i mean, come on... all you have to do is take the molds (already made) and change the color. how about... siver comtech han solo!! yeah, we need one of those...

Yes, I don't think enough people realize the triumph that is Hasbro's Commtech Han - they shall not rest until the world knows the truth. This is the 5th anniversary of it's release, ya know, so a commemorative edition is certainly needed. ;)
I think these should have ended long before even the Clonetrooper. They've all been aweful since the switch to paint from vac-metal, or at least pointless, I think. That said, I see the point of offering a Vader in the months of the OT DVD release both as a tie-in and as a sad offering for those that didn't get a crack at the TF Vader. Not much of a stand-in, but I do see the flimsy logic.

that is very true. if they would have continued doing the vac-metal, i'd take anything they threw my way. but this silver paint just sucks. especially on that vader.

why wuold (will?) someone pay $69.99 or so for a figure that will be available free in a few months? i've had no problem getting the figures offered by toys r us, incredibly enough. r2, clone trooper... my toys r us had plenty of them. as a matter of fact, i think they still have some beat up clone troops kicking around in one of those giant bins...

I have actually gotten a complete set of the silver figures, and just like I predicted, they look really nice together... I'm not a carded guy, but these in a set are a neat centerpiece to an otherwise loose collection IMO.
I'd like them to do a 3PO, and then can the line... The Sandtrooper and 2nd Vader were wastes IMO. The Sandie could've been a basic Stormie I think, and would've made more sense... not sure what the thinking was on using the Sandtrooper.
I'd almost take an Emperor... A 3PO should've been in place of the 2nd Vader though. I almost think they're doing this other Vader as an "apology" for the first Vader, but to me this is one of those series that you shouldn't produce to appease people... I can see producing ENOUGH of a figure to make people happy, but not producing NEW figures to apologize for shorting a previous one.

So who's found this thing so far? I've been hitting my couple local TRUs, but with no avail. Hoping to grab a nice one before the masses get to them on Sunday when the ad and promotion officially starts. I've heard reports of it ringing up early for both $5 and $10 so far. Hopefully they'll still be selling them individually come Sunday, since my TRUs don't have anything close to $20 worth of decent stuff to buy, in order to get a free Vader.
Still lame that they did a second Vader in the first case. ::)

I got one at my local TRU today.
If I'd had read this before I left, I could have picked up a few more, but, eh.
The cards on these are a lot better looking than the Silver Clones, meaning these aren't all bent to hell.
I was still a little iffy on paying $10 for this, but it's pretty neat, and a good replacement for the other Vader I have no hope of getting.

I got over to my TRU a little late today, and they supposedly had no Silver Vaders left, which sucked since I was able to snag a couple VOTC Stormtroopers there for my $20 worth. What was odd is they seemed to imply they had alloted X number per day, and sold out todays amount, but would put more out tomorrow. So I went up to Guest Services, threw a little **** fit telling them there wouldn't be anything left for me to buy tomorrow to qualify for the free Vader, and surprisingly they were able to find ONE more in the store, under one of the cash registers. Not too great a card, but it'll serve well as my opener. Now I just need to find me another MOMC one to keep the Silver collection complete!
Anybody else nab their Silver Vaders today, since it's the first day they were technically officially supposed to be available...?

Not I, though I'm gonna need a minty mint one to also keep my collection going.
As much as I wish they'd STOP with these figures, I have to say a complete mint carded set is sorta neat to have. Like having a loose FreezeFrame or Force File set, or for a vintage nod a loose set of coins.
They're just something different... One of the few things I hang to carded.

I was able to snag mine with the purchase of the Naboo Final Conflict 4-pack this afternoon at TRU (thanks for the tip, Mike!)

Picked mine up today. Excellent condition cards. They had them in the back room with the vid games, and let me pull one out of the case. Picked up the OTC Falcon which was being marked down for its first clearance price of $39.99. Only a few left.
