The Sequel Trilogy / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)
« on: December 18, 2017, 06:37 PM »
I got in to the 8Am showing this morning.  I really liked the movie and despite some of the complaints I've read, and even agree with, I rank it behind on ESB and very slightly ahead of R1 in terms of how much I enjoyed it.

I hated seeing Luke go, but loved the way they did it. I really wanted to see more from him.  It sucks that we won't get a good Leia send off.

I wish the Rey/Luke aspect would have been explored a bit more in place of some of the goofy humor.  I thought the Finn/Rose side mission was kind of dumb, but can get past it.

I'm not sure why Phasma was even a character in either movie?  It was a wasted character who didn't prove to be any sort of ruthless badass or anything at all.

I was underwhelmed by Snoke.  Yep, definite bad guy, definitely was under played.  I did think it was cool that Kylo knocked him off, but thought it was kind of cheap the way it was done.  Of course, it was a needed plot device in order to push Kylo onward.

Anyway, I thought the overall story was fantastic.  I like that the actors in these movies have much, much better chemistry than anything we saw in the PT.

That's just some of my thoughts for the moment.  Maybe I'll come back and add more if I get a chance to see it again soon.

I'm so sick and tired of Negan and his guys going around acting cocky and wasteful with stuff.  At this point, anybody could knock those clowns off if they had a bit of sense.  Rick's group should have already handled this situation long before it go to where it is...but where is the drama in that?

Why did Rick just enter his house and start banging around and calling out.  He knew who was around and should have acted as such.

Carl, I did, but didn't see that coming.

Judith?  Seriously, who was watching her play by the lake?  How did she get so big so quick?  I guess in the zombie apocalypse they have HGH readily available and it's even mutated.

Really, it wasn't a bad episode and I'm nit-picking at this point.  But, the entire Negan and his crew being supermen is nuts.

But I degress...it's (was) a show about zombies.

Well...filler episode, or not???  I have no idea.

I know it's a zombie show and you have to suspend belief, but good lord, shooting down a drone with bullets?  I won't get into the difficulty level...that's why anti-aircraft artillery/missiles explode(s) and sends out shrapnel and why bird hunters use shotguns.

Anyway, Darrel's move was dumb and bone headed methinks, but we shall see.

But I do wonder if Eugene has an ulterior motive in not fingering Dwight?  I wonder if he's going to try and take down Negan from the inside?  It would make sense because he's the idiotic genius.

I'm curious as to what will happen next week.  The story has been "interesting" this season.  Not great, not bad, but at least it's going and we aren't constantly listening to people complain and then make speeches.  We actually get some action.  However, I'd love to see some zombie slaying.  I wonder if Negan is ever going to appear as a bad person again, or will he keep being the nice guy that he's been this season?

I thought they were putting Abraham in as a regular?  Weird it'd be Morgan but hey, whatevs.

Weird being Morgan.  I mean, he was with Rick 3 months after the fall.  Then he's around Georgia still about a year or two later when he confronts Rick.  Then he's going to make it to California, or Texas if they go that way, then he's going to meet back up in Virginia?  All within what, a year to two years?  I figure it's feasible, but not likely if you are walking most of the time.

But hey whatever, I'm just in it to watch it and suspend every ounce of reality and common sense I possess.

This is really distressing to hear. This game has so much potential, but I think EA really dropped the ball with so much pay to play stuff.  It's almost like getting a game on your phone, only to discover if you want to actually play it you have to pay for the upgrades.

I've wondered why EA wouldn't just release the game at say an $80 price point and then it includes the upgrades.  I imagine a lot of casual gamers are going to be turned off by the pay aspect.  I know, I'm only a casual gamer, so I won't spend a dime beyond what it takes to make the initial purchase.

Dumb decision...again...when Negan came out the door, why didn't they just pump his ass full of lead?  I mean, somebody should have had their weapon trained on that door to smoke him when he came out.

Anybody watch the FTWD season finale?

Where in the world have these writers been the past couple of years?  The last 2-3 episodes have been pretty freaking good IMO.

I usually get around to watching this within 3-4 days after it's on, but it certainly isn't "must watch" for me.  This season, especially the past 3-4 episodes have been markedly better than everything before.  I still have no real connection to any character and seeing one of the main ones getting offed wouldn't bother me to much.  I'm starting to be intrigued by the former solider (can't remember his name though) and by Nick, but overall, it's still just a show that I'll watch while cruising the internet.

Damn Rob, sorry to hear about that.

I've thought the same thing about the insurance and when our cat and dog cross the rainbow bridge (15 years and 11 years respectively), we'll pick up some new ones and will most likely get insurance for them too.  Between the two animals we have now, I've done 3 UTIs ($5500) and two ACL surgerys ($5000).  Yeah, good investment.

Okay, this show has gotten me back some.  This season has been decent for the most part, and a far cry from the first two.  I do agree a lot of it was predictable, but at least it's going somewhere other than "let's sit around and talk about our feelings."

Of course, I would have liked to have seen more about what Strand was up to this episode.  I'd also like an update on Daniel.  I imagine we'll find that out in a few weeks though.

I managed to get lucky and got an NES Classic off eBay for about $120.  My wife and I have played it a ton.  However, I never saw them in stores.  One store nearby was asking for a $50 up front fee to reserve one when they showed up.  Then the store was selling them for $120.  Needless to say I balked at that.

As for the Super NES, I'm looking forward to that, but I'm not real thrilled about the game choices.  As crazy as it sounds, I was really hoping Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball would have been included.  But that was a rather minor game and not a headliner like the stuff that is being included.

Well, I guess that wasn't all bad.  I finally got around to watching FTWD in two stints yesterday and actually found myself enjoying what was going on.

I must say I was a bit shocked about Travis, but didn't really "feel" much for the situation.  Like some have mentioned, I hope they don't turn this into a situation like TWD where it is find a safe spot, deal with a bad guy, move on, and then rinse and repeat.

With this episode though, it looks like the writers actually listened a bit and wrote a good story that wasn't all over the place.  Now if I can develop a level of concern for the characters, we're good to go.  I'd actually like to see this story evolve into something where they actually trust and work together with the people they are currently with.  That would be an interesting direction to go.  That said, I hope they don't decide to start looking for the hill people who shot at the helicopter.  To me, that would be a serious waste of resources.  But again, it appears as if the head honcho (Unser from SOA) seems to have his head screwed on and wants to give some space to his new people.  We'll see if that's just a hook to suck them in or an honest attempt to do well by others.

All in all, a really good episode for this show, probably the best so far.  While not completely turning around my opinion of the show, I look forward to seeing what happens and hopefully this show will finally get going.

Matt, get a four door model.  With kids, you will thank me for that.  Maybe you can still get a new 2016 or a 2017 before the new body style comes out next year.  Trust me, that will save you on upgrade and modification costs down the road.

If you get one and decide to start upgrading let me know.  There is a right and wrong way to do it.

Definitely, thanks for the Amazon heads up.  I frequently buy books from there.  I'll get JD the hook up.

The FTWD wiki has the timeline set to about day 36.  I'm not sure how accurate that is.  The quarantine looks to have been around 2 weeks.  Either way, I don't see how FTWD could make it to Virginia.  Those idiots won't use violence and are complete freaking morons.  I'm not attached to any of those characters and wouldn't mind any of them becoming walker snacks.
