Saga '02-'04 / Re: Cloth or Plastic?
« on: December 3, 2003, 11:57 AM »

That being said, there are some figures that look better with sculpted plastic. The senators, dignitaries, etc. are good examples. Soft goods should be reserved for figures that wear simple robes (jedi), so the cloth looks genuine. Also, figures that have alot of articulation and would be placed in action scenes should have soft goods.

I think that is an excellent point, and really how I feel about this too.  Figures like AOTC Palpatine, Bail, the removable head Tusken, etc., really look good with the sculpted plastic.  Other figures, such as the Jedi in specific, can really use cloth since it doesn't limit their posability.  If the figure is basically meant to stand straight up and down with its hands clasped in front of it...plastic is fine by me...if it is meant for multiple poses, cloth *might* be an option.  Excellent point LandotheScoundrel.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: RUMORS FOR 2004!!!!!!
« on: December 3, 2003, 11:54 AM »
I agree totally, these lists keep getting better and better.  I really hope we get to see all of these figures as well.  I've always wanted to get a good Endor Luke (as well as the rumored Han), and I hope it comes accessorized and articulated to the T.  Its always nice to see another ewok included, hopefully it is Chirpa, as has been rumored.  Also, a jointed knees 3PO would be pretty sweet.  All of these sound great, I hope that they end up being true.  Seems like a rumored "endor" wave of Han, Luke, Ewok, and maybe a Deluxe 3PO with Throne would be a good idea.  Who knows, but hopefully it turns out that way.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Vintage gaming nerds, check this out:
« on: December 3, 2003, 09:53 AM »
I agree, a lot of nostalgia reading this thread :).  The Intellivision stuff really brings back some memories for me.  That is the gaming system I had when I was a kid, until I finally convinced my parents of getting me a Nintendo for Christmas about a year or two after it came out I think.  My dad had the intellivision system before I was old enough to play games, but I spent a lot of time growing up playing "Pro Football", "Pro Basketball", "Burger Time", "Pitfall", "Donkey Kong Junior", "Night Stalker", "Dungeons and Dragons", and many others.  The graphics were terrible compared to even the original NES, but those games sure were fun at the time.  I know I played the heck out of Donkey Kong Jr. back then :).

Saga '02-'04 / Re: SAGA Drying Up Again?
« on: December 3, 2003, 09:13 AM »
I'm not sure what to think yet, I was hoping that Saga would be a little easier to find now that most of the stores around here have cleared out the older stuff...but I haven't seen a whole lot lately.  I can't complain, as I have seen remnants of the Dignitary/Bail/Padme wave, but never the whole wave at once (and I still haven't seen Obi or the Concept Trooper, the ones I was actually looking for :P).  Otherwise, around here, it has basically been solid Clone Wars figures at most stores, as well as plenty of Screen Scenes.  I'm really hoping things pick up on the Saga side of things, because I haven't been preordering any 2004 figures with the hopes that I could find them at retail...but I'm starting to worry a little bit too.

Saga '02-'04 / Cloth or Plastic?
« on: December 2, 2003, 05:05 PM »
I hope that this doesn't become a heated debate or anything, and I'm sorry if this topic is repetitive.  After looking at the preview over at GH of the new Jedi Luke, it got me to thinking about what some of your opinions are on the plastic or cloth cape, cloak, etc. issue.  I guess I'm staying on both sides, because I don't have problems with either way I guess.  However, I think sometimes I seem to gravitate towards cloth a little (maybe because of nostalgia from the vintage line).  Although I admit that it doesn't always sit or "lay" correctly or realistically on the figure (even the Jedi Luke doesn't, or one that many people like...POTJ Lando...it doesn't necessarily look "realistic" but still good).  I guess I had the same problem with my vintage Jedi Luke, and it didn't bother me then.  I also like the use of cloth on the screen scenes Mace and Yarael, I think it looks fairly good, and allows them to sit.  I'm also one that is hoping if there is an Endor Han next year, his poncho is cloth like the vintage, as long as it looks decent.  I don't really have a problem with plastic capes, etc. either, until I recently received my Throne Room Duel Vader from Kebco.  I don't know about you guys, but this figure is next to impossible to stand, or put the helmet on the same time as the cape, etc.  I don't know if I have honestly ever been quite as frustrated with displaying a figure.  But, then I also picked up the Death Star Clash Vader (or whatever its called, the one from the MOTDS two pack that was recently re-released), and I think this Vader looks great, the cloth cape hangs nicely, etc.  Anyways, I can see both sides of it...but I was wondering what some of your opinions are.  Are you plastic all the way? cloth all the way? a little bit of both? or don't care? :)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Worst Pegwarmers in your area
« on: December 1, 2003, 09:34 AM »
I only get out to the stores about once a week, since they are 30-40 minutes away from where we live...but from what I can tell, these are the pegwarmers around here:

CW Anakin
CW Yoda
Saga Screen Scenes (which is unfortunate, because if this continues we probably won't get many, or any, more.)
And actually, at the TRU closest to us, they always seem to have plenty of the Luke/Obi/Sidious Unleashed wave.

I do like both characters, but I'm a little partial to Wedge as well.  One of the unsung heroes of the OT I think, and he made it through all three movies, and battles...and always contributed in some way.

JD Sports Forum! / Re: The NBA is back!
« on: November 26, 2003, 03:23 PM »
Thought I'd dig up this thread for the fun of it.  A little NBA news this week (and last), with Doc out in Orlando and Bill in Chicago.  Sounds like Skiles might be the next man in charge of the baby Bulls.  Sad news about Zo as well, I was really hoping this comeback would work out for him.  A great competitor that unfortunately played on some bad teams the last few years he played.  Plus, I thought if he played up to his prime, the Nets could at least resemble some competition to some of the West teams.  On that note, wow is the difference even wider this year?  Basically the first place team in the Atlantic (East) wouldn't even make the playoffs in the West.  Yikes.  Oh, and what's up with this Ronald Murray?  Another good story :).

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How many here live far away from family?
« on: November 26, 2003, 10:20 AM »
We actually live within a half an hour of my wife's parents, and about an hour away from my parents, which I guess isn't too bad after hearing many of your experiences.  We see them a fair amount, but we aren't usually able to do a whole lot, or stay a long time if we don't bring our dog along (he's a house dog, and we feel bad leaving him "locked up" for too long :P).  For the most part our closest friends live a minimum of two hours away, so we don't get to see them as often as we would like either.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Thanksgiving Plans?
« on: November 26, 2003, 10:16 AM »
We're doing the usual "going to the families" tradition this year.  It kind of gets old driving back and forth everywhere, but it is nice to see the families too.  We are headed to my wife's parents tomorrow, then my side of the family on Friday.  We also had one a week ago at my mom's side, and have another one on Saturday at my wife's mother's side...not sure if we'll go or not yet...we might be traveled out by then.  OCB--my wife and I actually watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles every year too, one of our favorite movies.  Really underrated I think, we still laugh outloud at many of the parts...especially the rental car scene with Steve Martin :).

The Bullpen / Marvel Legends
« on: November 26, 2003, 09:21 AM »
I read over at the TNI forums that Toy Biz is supposedly going to showcase waves 6, 7, and possibly 8 at Toy Fair in 2004.  There was also mention of a boxset.  I think you can find the thread in their Marvel forum, towards the top if you are interested in reading.  Congrats on the Series 5 finds OCB, from the pics I've seen online, they look great.  Can't wait to finds me a Colossus :).

« on: November 25, 2003, 09:51 AM »
Agreed, a great set of figures...I too will buy all three of these.  This is the Jedi Luke figure I have been hoping for since my vintage one from my childhood :P.  It looks like it is very well done, and more than makes up for the action-featured one from this year.  Thanks for the pics boba_jp!

Saga '02-'04 / Re: BAIL ORGANA WAVE = A+ rating!
« on: November 24, 2003, 05:12 PM »
I've only found Bail and Janus so far, but both of these figures are very well done.  I really hope to find Obi and the Concept Stormie soon, both of those figures look great as well.  Seems to be a really good wave of figures :).

Other Toy Lines / Re: Which is Your Favorite "Other Toy Line"?
« on: November 24, 2003, 04:40 PM »
Thought I'd bump this up to see if anyone else wanted to comment, or if anyone else's opinions have changed.  For me, Star Wars is easily first and foremost...and I really only have a couple of figures from other lines (my favorites).  I have "tried" other lines slowly, because I simply don't have the money or room...and my Star Wars collection is more important to me than other toy lines.  That being said, other figures in my room that aren't Star Wars are currently: Rohan Armor Legolas and "bendy" Smeagol from LOTR, He-Man, Sy-Klone, and someday hopefully Roboto from MOTU, a Spy Troops Snake-Eyes, and Beast, Gambit, Wolvie, and Magneto from Marvel Legends.  I think the only line I will possibly continue with is the X-Men from ML (and X-Men Classics), maybe a couple more LOTR figs, and sometimes the Muppets line calls to me too....but I think I'm too late in the game to start with that anyways...great figures though!  Wouldn't mind getting a Rowlf and Fozzie if nothing else though.  Anyways, with all the great stuff coming from SW next year, I doubt I'll buy much else.  Just curious what line would be your choice, outside of our wonderful Star Wars world of course :).
