Title: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Angry Ewok on November 16, 2002, 07:10 PM
I must admit, my mom and I have been collecting these Star Wars ornaments ever since the Darth Vader came out... I think we've got every ornament made so far except for the original Luke...
Does anyone else collect these?

If so, what's your favorite ornament?

My favorite would have to be the Darth Vader, he speaks a line and the floorpanel below him is lit... Very cool.

To anyone dropping by who hasn't noticed, I've done an article on all of the Ornaments made since '96. Be sure to check that out.

My first one is the Millenium Falcon. Just something about that ship I like.  ;)
The only other's one's I have is a Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, C-3PO & R2-D2, Max Rebo Band & Star Wars Lunch Box.

I picked up my first ornaments this year. I found the Vader, mini r2 and c3po and bespin luke.

I will say that I git a big kick out of the Vader. I like the light up ones. I may have to look for some more deals.. The death star looks cool as well.

I've been collecting these since their inception.  I've got all of the Original Trilogy ornaments, along with a couple Prequel ones which I don't care too much for.

My favorite is the light up Millenium Falcon - by far.  This thing is totally sweet!  It's the only one I've ever put up on my Christmas trees.  I plan to buy a small, fake tree sometime soon to put in the Star Wars room (when we move), to give all of my ornaments a permanent home.

My wife just started my collection of these this past Christmas by giving me the Jango Fett and Slave I ornaments.  This year, I'll have one more thing to spend money on during the holidays.  ;D

I have most of the ornaments, and my favorite, by far, has to be the Millennium Falcon.  Not only was it the first ornament, and the ship flown by my fave character, Han Solo, it's also a very nicely detailed little ship.  I like the little lunch box, too.

I only have the Jango Fett + Jango Slave 1 ornaments. The Jango ornaments likeness is out of this world.

The Jango likeness is much better than the Boba Fett one, by far. But, both are pretty cool.

3PO is alright, but because I'm pretty sure I've already got a 3PO, I'm not too excited about him. I'll get this one simply because I'm trying to keep my collection as complete as possible.

The TIE is something I've wanted for a while. I'll definately get this one, even if I wasn't a near-completist.

I would have prefered a single, larger, more detailed Clone, rather than another bunch of tiny things. They are okay, I guess.

Well, I was hoping for a Yoda, but I wanted a larger Yoda, something about the size of the larger R2 ornament, at least. Unfortunately, we get a tiny Yoda, along with a tiny Padme. Well, maybe they'll make an ESB Yoda someday.  :-\

Overall, nice to see them, but I haven't been knocked silly with joy and anticipation for their release...

I've gotta have all of those, except maybe the Clone Troopers. I have not been as obsessive with First Trilogy collectibles as I have been with Second Trilogy.  I wish they still did ornaments at Easter; they only ever had a couple then dropped that line.

What's it like in the states?  By that I mean, are these only available direct and from Hallmark stores?  The latter is the only place I believe we can get these in Canada.  Additionally, retail is a bit of a "female dog" up here.  Not because the stuff isn't available just the pricing.  Death Star last year ran $31 plus 14% tax so kinda steep.

Boxing day, prices are half, so it's a bit of a crap shoot on this stuff.  If I know I'll be dragged to the mall boxing day, I watch the stock and see what is likely to remain.  If it is getting low in numbers and I really want it, I'll purchase it (eg. death star).  If not, I'll wait.  I missed out on Jedi Luke this year, but was fortunate enough to get Jango's Slave I for 1/2 off, so good deal.

The only thing I really want out of that group is the Tie.  I can almost see why the older Yoda is selling for more on ebay.
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: JediMAC on April 28, 2003, 03:01 PM
I'll be getting the Tie Fighter and C-3PO, as I only collect the OT stuff when it comes to the Hallmark Ornaments.  As for where you can find this stuff in the States, obviously on Hallmark's website, and in the many Hallmark stores in the malls.  But I also frequently see the Hallmark ornament displays in many drug stores too, like Sav-On, etc.  The prices are always exactly what is printed on the box.

Good stuff!

I've had better luck in the out-of-the-mall Hallmark shops the day after Christmas - they don't get as much traffic as the mall stores, so they tend to have the ones left that I want.  It's also a great time to pick up a few extras for gifts/trading.

It's nice picking these up after Christams has ended, because they're usually like 50% off the regular price.  But then again, you might not find any of these in stock then.

I thought I'd bring this back up, because I've been thinking about getting into these as well.  I did see the new C-3PO one this past weekend while shopping, although I didn't pick it up.  I found Angry Ewok's article helpful, because I was curious what has all been released so far.  Is there anywhere to see pictures of all of these ornaments, or is just searching on ebay the best option for this?  Also, would it be really difficult (or expensive) to catch up on these (Original Trilogy releases only).  Thanks for the info you have all provided on these ornaments too :).

Wow David, that is a great way to display them!!  I just hang mine on my SW tree!! ;D

I do, however, have the lunchboxes out permanently as they go well with the lager ones Hallmark offered at one time.

I can't say how easy or hard it would be.  I know in the past, it's easier to catch up on missed Garfield ornaments (I have a lot of Christmas trees) now as a lot of sellers seem to flood the market with ornaments.  Just keep checking Ebay or post in the classifieds.  You never know, someone might have picked up extra ones after Christmas since they are 50% off.

Nice display David, I really appreciate you posting those pictures.  Thanks for the advice as well everyone, I've been keeping an eye on ebay, for the most part they don't seem to be too terribly expensive, maybe I'll be able to pick some up eventually.  It would be nice to at least get Han, Chewie, and the Falcon :).  Thanks again everyone!

small piece of advice:

If you don't snag some soon off ebay, stop looking for about 4 months.  I got into these late and slowly fill in the gaps.  The two months on either side of Christmas are nutty-koo-koo.  A stormtrooper can be had for less than $10 during spring and summer, rising to $20+ pre-Christmas.  Don't even ask what happens to the Falcon :'(

Rebelscum has a new little feature (http://www.rebelscum.com/hallmarkguide.asp) up on the Hallmark Star Wars ornaments over the years.  This is an area of SW Collecting that I've always been interested in, but I have a LOOONG way to go.  I have the Yoda from 2003, and hopefully the Chewie/3PO set coming this year from someone.  Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am a little bit confused after reading that feature.  When reading through it mentions several ornaments along the way....for example "Luke Bespin is the 1st in the Star Wars series", "Darth Vader is the sixth in the Star Wars series", and "Chewbacca is the latest and 8th in the Star Wars series"....are the ornaments seperated into different categories in some way?  I know there are large and "mini" ornaments, but besides that there is more "non-mini" character ornaments on that page than 8.  I was just curious, I guess I could justify trying to catch up easier if I was just looking to complete a series of 8 (so far), instead of all 42 that have been released so far.  Can anyone enlighten me on this ornament hierarchy? :)
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: jokabofe on December 14, 2004, 02:16 PM
There's not really much to tell... every year, Hallmark just designates one of it's Star Wars ornaments to be included in the series, and the others are just... there. I've got a few extras somewhere if you're interested. I think I have a Stormtrooper and the 2nd Vader that was released, and maybe a few others. I'd have to look.

Post by: Brian on December 14, 2004, 02:53 PM
Thanks Dave, I see what you mean.  I was curious what made the other, normal sized ornaments different from the "Collector's Series", and apparently its....nothing, aside from a few box differences the way it looks.  We'll see, but I'd like to try to track down a collection...starting with the OT ones anyways...and probably staying away from the "minis" as well.  The ships are kind of appealing too though.  I don't think the Mrs. is a fan of them being on the "normal" Christmas tree, so I might have to get a little tree in our office to display them on :).  Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it.

I've collected all of the OT ones so far, but don't have this year's 3 yet.  Fun little suckers, even if I don't get to hang them on our regular tree in the living room...   ;)

BTW, is anyone interested in this Amidala ornament?

My sis gave it to me, but I don't collect the prequel ones.  I wouldn't mind unloading it, and getting it off my hands.  I'd be willing to sell it for $5 (it's unopened), plus a couple bucks for shipping, if anyone wanted it...  I think it retails for $15, but I could check that on it's tag.

Stopped by the Hallmark store in the mall while we were there last week, and they had all their ornaments on clearance (of course).  We had quite a few family birthdays to shop for, so I just picked up one.  They had the Star Wars poster ornament for $4.99 (which I got), as well as the Star Destroyer "light up" one for $7.  Just about got both, might check back again and get the other one, they had a ton of them that day.  Nice to hit those clearances, wish I would have done that in the past as well :).
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Morgbug on January 12, 2005, 04:14 PM
Hallmark up here used to clearance these things at 50% off the day after Christmas.  Now they are deemed  "Collectibles" ::) and no longer put on sale.  That's fine by me, I'll go pick them up off ebay.  Even with shipping they come out cheaper than the horrendous retail prices.  The aforementioned Star Destroyer retails up here for $41 plus 14% taxes for the nifty total of $46.74 :o  Uh, no thank you.

Currently these are selling well on ebay, prices are up, as they always are around the Christmas mindset.  If you're looking to pick them up cheaply on the bay, I suggest June. ;)

Need some help, if anyone's got a Hallmark store nearby...  For whatever reason, my family didn't hook me up with all the OT ornaments this year, so I'm in need of the Star Destroyer and the A New Hope Poster ornaments from this past year.  If they're still around, they should be on massive clearance right now.  I've scoped out all of my local Hallmark stores and they're all sold out, but if anyone else has those available near them still (preferably BOTH of them, to save on shipping), I'd love to nab them off you, and could throw in a little extra for your troubles...

I know Brian (mosnab) was hoping to grab the Star Destroyer for me, so we'll see how that goes.  I know "all sales are final" on these things right now, so don't everybody buy me a bunch of 'em at once!   ;)  Maybe "stash" them and contact me and we'll make sure no one else has already gotten them yet...

So thanks, if anyone's able to help re-complete my OT ornament collection!   :-*

- M

P.S.  Can anyone tell me what color box those two come in (blue, red, etc.), so I at least know what I'm looking for when I stumble upon a new Hallmark store?  Thanks!

If they're still around, they should be on massive clearance right now.

Unbelievably our local Hallmark stores are refusing to put these on sale.  They've now designated them as Collectibles and charge full, obscene Canadian price on them.  I could find them for you Matt, but you'd laugh at the prices.  Suffice to say I'm more than a little miffed by this.  I went in to pick up Chewie/3PO and put it on the counter.  The girl (wisely) indicated they were not on sale before ringing it in.  She gave the explanation and it was clear she had done so before.  I thanked her and passed on it, telling her (politely) I could get it off ebay, shipped, for considerably less.  And I will in time.

Not to jump Matt's post, but if anyone sees that Chewie/3PO for cheap, I could use it.  No matter though, I'll get it one way or another.

Red boxes, eh.  Cool.  That's what I figured.  Thanks Dale.

And Brent, yeah, I think I'll try to find some that are domestic, and on clearance right now so I can save a few bucks.  Brian might be able to find the SD for me, we'll see...

As for the Chewie set, I haven't seen that anywhere either (to help you out Brent), but my aunt did hook me up with that one at least...

Maybe I should take a peek on eBay.

Although it is sort of taking a back seat this weekend due to Comic Con, I remembered this report (http://www.rebelscum.com/article.asp?i=93623) mentioning that there is a "preview" of the Hallmark ornaments this Saturday and Sunday...supposedly you will be able to purchase them.  Does this happen every year?  I guess I haven't really paid attention in the past.  Might have to head out to the local Hallmark store and see, it would be nice to pick these up now during a bit of a collecting "lull"...and not so close to Christmas with all that spending.  Just curious if anyone else had heard anything about this.
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars

Happens every year.  Hallmark premiers their Christmas line up in July and my Mother orders all her ornaments at that time.  Not every ornament is available to see but you can place your order so you can be assured of getting one.  About 10 years back or so, my Mom was smart enough to do this for a Barbie ornament (they sold out of their allocated stock before it even hit the shelf) so my daughter could keep up her collection.

Star Wars usually has at least two to show but with a movie year, they might have them all.

While at the mall this weekend, I stopped off at the Hallmark store to see if they had the ornaments out.  They had plenty of about everything.  I picked up the new Darth Vader (with sounds), but left the Leia for now.  My wife said "we're not hanging naked Leia on our Christmas tree" ;).  I told her we didn't have to, but I might want to pick it up later on to have a "complete" set of the figure ornaments (once I go back and pick up the old ones that is :P).  The Vader is pretty spiffy.  They had the blue clone and Anakin's starfighter there as well, but I think I'll stick to OT with these for now.

Clicky Button for our story.

The AT-AT is my favorite of the lot...  That's just good ornamenting there.

The Obi/Ani is my next favorite, but honestly all 3 film ones would be welcomed in my collection.  The Cartoon minis is about as interesting to me as paste though so I'm hoping I don't get them...  I tend to find these under the X-Mas tree every year.  The AT-AT is THE must-have of this series though.  That's purdy.

Does anyone know what the difficulty is in finding the Hallmark ornaments of the see-through movie posters for the SW series?  I've gotten one of the posters and I'm hooked on these ones but just wondering if I'm getting into something really pricey.  :-\

Those sound pretty cool Jesse.  I've never collected the Hallmark ornaments, but the posters sound like a neat collectible to have year-round.  When were they released?

I'd definately recommend the see-thru movie posters, as none of the pictures serve them justice.

As far as the rest of Hallmark's ornaments... these things get to be extremelly pricey, but if you're allowed to have a Star Wars tree for just these ornaments... you'll be glad you got into it. Some of the 'midget' ornaments are a complete waste, though, and some of the bigger ones are too heavy to put on your tree...

Are there ornies for ESB and ROTJ movie posters Brad?  I only ever see ANH on Ebay, and I have ANH, but if they have the other films I'd like them as well, they're fantastic.

Just ANH.

No other posters subsequent to '04 either.

Thanks for the link. Of course, I'll have to pick these up when they come out.
Hallmark typically releases most of their new ornaments in July, then the rest
around October. They may have a "Dream Book" available in stores now that
pictures all the new ornaments for 2007.

I'll be on the lookout for those. I've got a bunch of them as gifts from the wife. I just have the Stormtrooper, Chewbacca (w/ C3PO), R2D2, Han Solo (ANH), Princess Leia (ANH), and Darth Vader from years past...

I was bought the two electronic ornaments from this year on clearance by my gf...  For like $18 I got what would've cost $60 at full price...  Blah!  Can't beat that kind of deal.  My Hallmark store had a surprising number of these, but none of the other ones.

Here's a link to the page with the four Star Wars onaments that will be offered this year.

Link here (http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/article|10001|10051|/HallmarkSite/KeepsakeOrnaments/2008DreamBook/2008_DREAM_ONLINE_33)

They have the Tyderium, the Emperor on his throne from ROTJ, Luke and Vader fighting in front of a Death Star window, and a mini set featuring the Death Star and a Star Destroyer.

There's also an Indiana Jones figure this year, in case your interest crosses to all things Lucasfilm.

edit - just fixed the broken link

Neat, there's definitely an imperial theme this year.  Vader and Luke would be neat, although Vader looks a little thin.

Blasphemous though it may be, I'm digging the Trek ornaments too.  Really liking the SW ones though, great lineup.
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Taminar on June 2, 2008, 11:55 PM
My husband is speculating that the Vader might be a bobblehead. In the photo it just looks like he has a really long goose neck.
The Tyderium is my favorite from this year, I think. I like the minis, too.
I picked up my Dreambook at the Hallmark store -- they are already taking ornament reservations from collectors.
Speaking of Trek, the Reliant has always been a popular ship; it'll probably go fast. The communicator is cool, too.
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Jesse James on June 3, 2008, 03:15 AM
I like the Tyderium as well and will likely ask for that for Christmas...  Love Palpatine as well, but the Luke/Vader, while I love the scene, I'm not digging Vader's looks and so may wait to try and get it on clearance.  Tyderium's my favorite though and what I think I'll ask for.

Though, all 3 of these may readily be available after Christmas...  not the best lineup they've done for Star Wars.

The Tribles set for Trek is awesome.  :)  I like Trek, no blasphemy there, but they don't do a lot of TNG stuff which is my favorite show (DS9 too).

I am guessing the Palpatine is probably the series ornament.  I wonder if they are going to do first day of release exclusives like they did last year.  I had to go to multiple Halmarks to get both the Tusken and Uhura last year.  I guess these might be coming out pretty soon.  Didn't we see a debut in July last year?
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Brian on July 21, 2008, 03:01 PM
I stopped by Hallmark this weekend to see if they had the "exclusive" Royal Guard ornament, but didn't see any sign of them at all (or even a spot for them).  Last year, I didn't have any problem finding the Tusken exclusive (although it did sell out well before the holidays), but apparently that isn't the case this year.  I ended up grabbing the Series ornament from this year (Palps) since I was there anyways, but I was a bit disappointed that the Royal Guard was gone already.  I personally only grab the OT character ornaments, but I was surprised they didn't have something Clone Wars related out this year.

There are some pretty good rumors that there will eventually be a Clone Wars ornament item this year, but due to the whole 7/26 date, they couldn't/can't sell it yet.

Never did find a Tuskin Raider. I will need to be sure to grab this years exclusive so I don't have 2 that I am short. Otherwise I have all of them since they started coming out. In the past I put up a tree in my basement that is nothing by my Star Wars ornaments as there is enought to fill a tree and my wife has not intention of letting me do that to the family tree.

I just need to find a model of the Death STAR to put on the top of the tree tha tlights up so I can have a STAR on the top of the tree.

Phantom Menace Duel (Obi/Qui-Gon/Maul)
Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise
Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder
Clone Wars Anakin and Ahsoka

Also of note is another Indy ornament, "Retrieving the Idol" (http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product|10001|10051|940941|215589;221071;221122|null|P1R4SO|stores)

I'm curious to see Luke's Speeder and I like the duel, but otherwise this isn't an exciting year to me so far...  E1's not my favorite film so the duel looks ok but isn't exciting.  Luke's Speeder isn't as exciting as the fighters and things, so I'm not even sure on that one.  I'm pretty likely to wait for clearance for both.

Palpatine's throne from this last year's figure made a REALLY nice action figure throne though...  That's where mine is, and it is perfect.  I wish they'd add more "environment" pieces to their figures. ;)
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Brian on May 7, 2009, 09:15 AM
It really seems anymore that you're better off waiting for clearance on these the majority of the time.  It depends on who the figure is for that year, but I know the light/sound vehicles and things like that are almost always on clearance.  I've just stuck to the character ornament of each year for the most part.  The vehicles are neat and I'd like to track down the ones I missed eventually, but the SW ornaments in our house are relegated to a little SW tree in our office, and there just isn't room for everything.  I'm curious to see what the Landspeeder will be like as well.  I've also stuck to OT only with the ornaments (aside from a Yoda), but that TPM duel one looks kind of spiffy.  Nice to see there is another Indy ornament.  I got last year's for $4, so I might look to add this one as well.

Did anyone have any luck finding those Limited Edition ornaments the last couple of years?  Our closest Hallmark store closed this past year, so I didn't get to the other one (other side of town) until a couple weeks ago really - but I never saw the Royal Guard and/or this year's Greedo at all.  In fact, the regular Han Stormtrooper one this year was sold out at our only store in town as well (my parents found it where they live though).

I still have some backtracking to do, but I'm hoping to eventually just keep up with the OT ornaments in the "series", since that is only one a year - and then maybe working on the one major vehicle one each year.  I've decided to stick to OT only with these, although some of the PT look kind of neat too.  I think I'll need a larger tree to display them in our basement before too long though, since there are so many to keep up with anymore.

Last night in fact I went through all of the ones I have and it seems I'm still in need of a few:

1998 SW Lunchbox
2000 Darth Maul
2000 Qui-Gon Jinn
2000 Gungan Sub
2001 ESB Lunchbox/Thermos
2009 Clone Troopers (SDCC exclusive)

Local Hallmark was 40% off last week, so I'm stopping in tomorrow to see what they are this week.  I'd like the Maul/QGJ/OW set, the Indy set, and a couple other for custom figure stuff if I can get them at uber discounts.
Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Jesse James on January 4, 2010, 08:03 PM
60% off this week...  All Maul/QGJ/Obi sets are gone though. :(  I missed it.  Not a big deal, but I would've enjoyed it for clearance prices so I'll live or get one cheap at the toy show maybe.

Robby the Robot all gone...  WTF?  I wanted one for customizing.   >:(

Ironically, Indiana JOnes there in semi-abundance (5 maybe), so I bought two.  The base is figure-sized guys, so that's a neat little display with an Indy figure you may have lying around. ;)

Landspeeders were still there too but I got one at 50% so I'm happy with that.

Also had Emperor sets around, and that chair is also figure sized guys, and far superior to the Hasbro one from the POTF2 line.  The figure prys out with some difficulty and leaves a sort of hole in the seat's cushioning, but an Emperor figure in it looks sharp as hell.

Thanks for the heads up on the 60% off Jesse.  Hopefully I can hit our local Hallmark store this week/weekend to see if there is anything left.  I was there last weekend, and it was 40%, so I thought I would wait it out a bit longer.  I was able to get ornaments last year at 75%, but that store has since closed, and I'm not sure how long I'll wait this one out.  I was sort of hoping to pick up the Landspeeder, the Indy ornament, and possibly the Phantom Menace one.  I have pretty much stuck to OT only with the SW ornaments, but that one does look pretty cool.

Do you want me to look for one for you Jay?  I don't know why my store has them, but I was considering a 2nd for myself to give Thrawn a throne too.  My Palps is in his chair, I'll try snapping pics for sharing at some point.  He looks bitchin' in it.

Getting Indy off his base isn't terribly easy, so caution to everyone trying that.  Mine's right foot was pretty solidly glued into the holes.  His left foot popped easily.

LMK if you want me to try nabbing an Emperor for you...  I'll see what's available.  I'm guessing they just are old stock they wouldn't put on too deep a discount.

It's funny, but our Hallmark stores won't put anything that is in a "Series" on sale, as I indicated in the Indy thread in response to Jesse.  The Star Wars (and Harley Davidson and some others) all fall into the Series category as denoted on the box, so those never go on sale around me.  The Indy, some Marvel stuff, Star Trek, Looney Tunes and just about everything else does go on sale.

So I was able to pick up the Indy ornament for half off and my wife already got me the Robby the Robot ornament for Christmas.  There were a few Emperor ornaments about but distinctly not on sale.  I'll happily live without it.

Oh, one store had the slave Leia ornament for $1.00.   :-X

Title: Re: Hallmark Star Wars
Post by: Brian on January 10, 2012, 02:35 PM
I picked up the Yoda a few months back as I always like to have the "series" ornament from each year.  I then got the older Falcon ornament via ebay, since I wasn't really getting them when that one came out.  My wife/daughter gave me the Slave I for Christmas, and I got the Han vs. Greedo one from my parents, so all in all a pretty good year for Hallmark Ornaments.  I actually really like the Hallmark ornaments, and we have a smaller tree in our basement that we decorate each year with them.  It is getting sort of maxed out now, so we may have to upgrade next Christmas.  I'd like to go back and pick up the other earlier "series" ornaments that I missed, as well as the vehicles (I collect OT only on both).  Otherwise, I've tried to keep up with the newer releases, aside from the exclusive ones.  I also have a few Spider-Man and Indy ornaments, which are nice too.

The SW ornaments never seem to get to clearance here, or they do right away and I miss out on them.  I never seem to get a chance to get to either of our Hallmark stores right after Christmas, usually a week or two later.  We went to one this past weekend, and there wasn't anything of note (I was hoping for maybe the Indy one, but that was gone as well).  This year's ship was the Slave I, which was pretty nice.  I've only got three of the vehicles so far (Falcon, Snowspeeder, and Slave I), but I hope to catch up on the ones I missed there as well.  I'm forgetting right now how many of the "scenes" there have been now.  I have the Han/Greedo from this year, the ROTJ Luke/Vader battle from last year (?), and the Falcon escape from a few years ago.  I'd love to get the Bossk ornament Jesse, but I don't really have any extra ornaments to trade or anything.
