Well done. He's a pricey little one.
Now all you have to do is rip that cumbersome card off and set him free ;)

Title: Scored 3 HUGE EP1 figs today!
Post by: dustrho on April 27, 2003, 10:33 PM
Just score these three figures at the Kane County Toy Show (in Illinois) today (4/27), and only paid $40 for all three.  Some may think that's steep, but I was very happy with the purchase.  These figures are on awesome cards.  Now I only need two more figures to finish my single-figure EP1 collection... TC-14 and Naboo Royal Guard.

Great score. $40 for all 3 is very good. Iv'e seen Amidala w/ Ascension Gun go for up to $42. alone.
Sweet deal. Congrats.

That's definitely not a bad price.  Those were all pretty tough to find the first time around.  Good score!

That's an awesome deal Chris!  The price tags on your figures there are pretty accurate as to current market value (like on eBay), so if you add those three up, you'll see they come out to $77.  So you saved yourself about 50%!  Not bad...   8)

The Battle Amidala is THE LAST figure that I need to polish off my entire carded and loose collections for the entire modern era (have my carded one already, just need an opener now).  I've been following her prices for a LONG time on the Bay, and haven't seen one fall below $25 for well over a couple years now - usually going for much more than that!  The Sio and Swimming Jar Jar figures are both real tough pieces as well, so $40 for the whole group is practically a steal!  Nice job.  Now just take those price tags off real carefully...   ;)

BTW, I've got an extra NRG from a throw-in on old trade Chris, but it's on a Tri-Logo card which I'm assuming is not of interest to you.  Not sure if it's C-9+ either, but could check if you're interested.  LMK, and keep up the good hunting!

I'm really only looking for US version only to complete this set.  If it were a loose collection then that would be a different story.  Thanks for the offer Matt.

I've heard a million different ways in trying to take those price tags off of figures, but what really is THE best way to remove it without damaging the card or bubble (bubble in this particular case)???

I figured that was the case Chris, but just thought I'd double check just in case...

Well, I've never had to use any of those strange liquids or solutions, hairdryers, etc, etc.   What I do, is just take the sticker off the old fashioned way - by hand, and VERY slowly.  Most of the sticker removing stratagies are more suited to the vintage arena, where a sticker has been attached to something for many, many years.

Chris, I'm sure your stickers there should peel right off probably, as I'm sure they're fairly new.  It's even better that they're on the bubble, since you can't really damage a bubble, like you can a card (unless you smash it).  Any residue that's left after pulling the sticker off can usually be taken off just by firmly pressing/dabbing the same sticker you just removed against the residue several times.  That's what I always do.  Just dab the removed sticker against it's residue however many times it takes to remove the rest of the sticky stuff from the card or bubble.  Sometimes, if simple dabbing doesn't work, I'll "roll" the removed sticker over the remaining residue a few times.  This works just fine for almost anything that has any type of sticker/tag attached to it - not just SW figures.

Either way, you should be fine.  And since it's on a plastic bubble, whatever happens, you can get the residue off eventually, and you'll never even notice.  Just make sure not to crush the bubble in the "dabbing" process, if that's even necessary at all...  Good luck Chris, and again - great score!

NRG on trilogo? ;) ;D  Does it need a home where it won't be discriminated against for it's trilogo-ness?

Removing price stickers is easiest with goo-gone.  Nothing works better.  Just drop it on, leave stand for a couple of minutes then peel off the sticker like it was just sitting on top, rather than stuck.  Wipe off the residue and no damage, no discolouration at all.  I won't remove a sticker without it now. It just makes it so easy.

I'll echo what Brent mentions. Goo-gone is the best. I use the old small heater method but you have to be very carefull. Heats up very fast & can burn. I know.
The bubble will melt & the card will warp. It takes practice to use this method.

Go with goo-gone. Your action figures will Thank You.  ;)

Got the case at Wholesalecases.com (http://www.wholesalecases.com).  Bought from them 3 or 4 separate times, and have been very satisfied with their products and service.

Well, I got the price tags off with no problem, but those Japanese stickers are awful!  I'm just going to leave them on, because it was too difficult getting one of them off.  Plus I don't feel like using any of these 3 as guinea pigs for using goo-off or goo-gone (whatever it's called) for the first time.

I found Sio Bibble at K-Mart several moths after he had been out.  He was in VF-Nm, but I pad $6.  I had to pay $20 for Jar Jar.  I bought Amidalla for cost, but opened her for some odd reason.  I later traded her + $10 for a MOMC.

So after years upon years, I have finally completed my E1 collection with the acquisition of this guy:

Darth Maul with Sith Speeder Game (http://cgi.ebay.com/Ep.1-Sith-Speeder-Game-w%2f-Darth-Maul-Figure-MOC-MIP_W0QQitemZ190296049647QQcmdZViewItem)

I picked mine up off the Ebay.uk site for just $25 shipped.  Much cooler figure than I imagined.  He is similar to E1 styling, but has bendable knees, rotating wrists, and cloth cloak.  The cloak is dust colored on the bottom to match the sand he picked up riding his bike on Tatooine.  He also comes with a cool video-game/bike.  Well worth the purchase!   8)

I had a time tracking that one down too. I got it years ago, but had to do some searching a shopping around. When I finally pulled the trigger, I had gotten out-bid on one that sold for $125 on ebay. The next available one a few days latter I got for $30.

****, I think you just pointed out something that I'm missing.

Just when I thought I had them all... I didn't even know this thing existed.

It's a unique darth maul and the sculpt wasn't sold in any other format?

It's unique.  I'll try to get a few photos of it posted - it's actually prtty cool compared to most of what was released for E1.

Thanks.

Just when I thought I'd collected 'em all....

I don't mind paying $30 for one, but there's no way in hell I'm paying anything close to $120.

I never really thought of that as a "must have" item.  The Maul is basically the same one that came with the Sith Speeder.

I think it would be much better known if it was a must have.   ;)  You're right though, the two are very similar.  The mold and articulation of both figures is very similar, though not exactly the same.  Compare the thigh width and definition in the last pic (FAO version pictured with Sith Speeder leg parts on either side for comparison).  The FAO version seems like it's a layer or two thicker.  Kind of odd - maybe it's just the mold on the FAO is older or a copy of the original.

Outside of that, the main difference is really just coloring. The FAO version is more of a dark gray/matte finish on the chest, belt, gloves, and boots, while the Sith Speeder version is glossy and black.  Not sure if this is a difference in paint ap vs. material, but it comes across as even more distinct in person than in the pics.  The red head paint is also a little different as you can see.  Also note the bottom of the FAO cape - it's purposely weathered on the bottom to look like the sand he'd pick up on tatooine (It looks like this in the package, it's not just wear and tear).  Obviously the speederbike is different as well.   ;)

Thanks for the images.  Looking at the comparisons, I think they're similar enough that I'm not going to worry about picking one up unless it somehow magically fell into my lap.  Looks like the same mold, just assembled a little differently to give it more of a Larry Craig wide stance.

A headless Destroy Droid in a baggie with some CORPS figures for a $1.

Wow.

Funny thing was these people had garbage bags of toy type stuff near their curb... not sure what the deal was. Tossing it? For sorting later? I was like "get me outta here."
