YAY! More Walmart Exclusives! That's awesome. Now I just need Wal-Mart to build a store within 20 miles of my house and I'm all set.
-
IIRC, Mawhonic is also in this wave
-
Joy, because the 30AC Wal-Mart waves were so easy to find. ::)
-
And Ric Ollie, right?
-
I want to see better pics of this... they were describing "neat features" during the panel, but the stream was blurry and I couldn't really tell much of what I was seeing...

As if you have room to talk. ;)
Yeah, these are pretty sweet!
-
Looks like a really nice wave, but I'm not super psyched that it is a WM exclusive. Those have been very hit or miss around here the way it is (figures, vehicles, etc.), and our local store hasn't had anything but ROTS clones and Sandtroopers on the pegs for pretty much all of 2011 (and the pegs are still packed). Unless Hasbro comes and takes some of those away, or WM clearances them down to like $3 or something, I don't see them moving anytime soon.
-
There's some figures I probably won't be seeing. 3 Wal-Marts near me. How many carried the AT-ST? None. One got the Dewback. One had Jabba, briefly.
Cantina Band tins, none. First and second comic pack waves. NONE. Jabba band sets. NONE. I am Your Father's Day set. Nada (not that I wanted that one).
Biggest toy retailer in the USA, but their distribution is horrid.
-
The Naboo Royal Starship droids are finally complete :) I hope the naboo pilot comes with the trenchcoat.
-
Love the wave, but hate exclusive waves of new figures.
Man, that TPM shelf is going to need some serious changes now that all these vastly superior updates are coming out.
-

Yeah, this is actually a pretty cool wave now that I see pics of it. But WM exclusives are very hit or miss. I think I've been lucky because the only WM exclusive I've never seen is the A-Wing from a few years ago, but it'll still be tough to track these down.
Might pass on the Gungan (doesn't look any different from the TLC version at first glance) and the Astromech (they have the new smaller body mold I thought they were going to utilize more)
-
Might pass on the Gungan (doesn't look any different from the TLC version at first glance)
It has a new vest and belt and Fambaa Staff
-
Love, love this group - but two gripes- where is the pilot trench coat? Otherwise, why do two at all? Instead of two, I'd like to have seen something else, Padme Handmaiden, for example.
-
Who ever imagined Ric Olie could become an actually cool action figure?
-
Per Gh update - these are not going to be on Vintage cards. Strange to classify them in the Vintage Collection only to card them on the TPM 3D design.

That's rather odd...
They're putting out the other TPM figures out on Vintage card backs, so why not these?
Here's hoping the folks at GH got some bad info.
-
During the presentation they said "fancy packaging" or something to that effect... that is why they are on the backdrops instead of the plain white like the other figures... I wish I could recall more but all I wrote in my notes was "fancy". The Maul cards make sense I guess...
-
(http://starwars.com/img/vault/collecting/2012_star_wars_line_look/SW12_Blister_Render.jpg)
I forgot what it looked like :P
-
Personally, I am fine with this. I have only been collecting extra OT guys to keep carded. This should also put a slight damper on scalpers. I will definitely pick up a 6-8 each of the Naboo pilots and the Gungans. That package looks good, better that the current blue stuff, this feels more SWs.
-
Adam P. at Galactic Hunter has confirmed (on twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/GalacticHunter/status/94799558613278722)) that this exclusive wave will be packaged on the new Maul card back, not the Vintage.
-
******* Walmart.
-
I want all but Mawhonic. I see no point in getting more Pod Race figures if we don't have pods for them to race in.
-
I really like this wave. The character choices are pretty cool. Very much liking the Naboo Pilot. I'd also like to see more of Aurra Sing.
The downside? I just dread having to deal with the ratrace of another WalMart exclusive wave of figures. I *HATE* WalMart exclusives with such a passion.

Seconded.
-
Very pleased by this wave, I want me a small army of Mawhonic!
-

I just treat pod racers as background aliens. At least the decent looking ones. Mawhonic looks good for that capacity.
-
I'm similar. They've kind of got their own shelf. I never expected all the pods to happen, and honestly I'm kind of glad they didn't and other things were done instead.
My podracers just chill out together and have the Pit Droids hanging around with them, the announcer, the Mos Espa weirdoes, etc.
-
WORD on the pods no getting made, have no room or desire for them. As for them being a WM exclusive I have a WM that I can hit before work so it will hopefully not be too bad to find these. For those who do not have WM's near you I will try to help those I can.
I hope we see a new SA Tarpels, Panaka, JJ and Naboo soldier at some point in 12'. It will be nice to get some EP1 figures back in my collection, I ditched most of them for their "datedness".
-
Man, Hasbro finally makes Aurra Sing and Ric Olie, and they're limited to Walmart?! This is just great. I have absolutely no Walmarts within 2 hours driving distance away from me. :-\
-
SA Tarpals is in the Target battle pack
-
No, he's not. That is just the 2004 one which was just the 99 one with hinged knees.
-
For now... I'm hopeful Tarpals is getting an update and that's just a prototype.
-
I don't know why it seems fitting that this is a Wal Mart wave. Nicely done figures though.
-
How did i miss this, i hate tha its a Walmart exclusive but i am down for it.
-
First time I considered cutting back and not doing the prequels was way back when the Ep ! stuff was first coming out. This seems like a second chance in a lifetime to pull the trigger get out. These seem like great figures, but why support films that weren't very good to begin with?
-
That's EXACTLY my thoughts, Anton. Not to overdo my "purism", but that was exactly what I had to come to grips with: why buy nice-looking figures from a film (trilogy) that goes against the established "rules" (and was just not a great movie anyway) of the OT? These figures do look great- there's a small part of me that almost wants to buy them (funny how there's nostalgia for a "new" SW film). But ultimately, Tarpals and Ric Olie and Darth Maul do not occupy the same mythology as Luke, Han, and Lando for me.
-
The most iconic Character of the PT is still more "Fanfic" the most obscure 2 frames of time OT Character for me, so I agree.
But Sadly that Fanfic was written by George Lucas so he wins....

It's amazing how amazing some parts of Star Wars are... and then how crappy the other parts are. :'( It's really mixed up my reception to Star Wars as a whole, but don't get me wrong, I'm still an appreciative fan.
I noticed on Scum's round-up report that someone asked Hasbro whether this wave will be vintage-carded or carded on the new packaging design, but I couldn't load the answer. Does anyone know what Hasbro replied?
-
From JediNews:
Q. The San Diego Comic Con Panel revealed a new wave of Episode I figures that will be exclusive to Walmart. There seems to be some confusion as to how these figures will be packaged (The Vintage Collection or on Darth Maul like cards) and also if these will be available in the UK - please could you clarify?
A. The Vintage Wave 1 of 2012 revealed in San Diego will not be exclusive to Walmart. These figures (Darth Maul, Daultay, Quinlan Vos, etc.) will be available in [the]mainline in Vintage packaging. They should be available in the UK.
Note that Hasbro's crack team of QNA monkeys totally missed the point (again). JN asked about the packaging for the exclusive walmart wave not the first wave of Vintage.

Hasbro must be deliberately doing this, they've been getting annoyingly lazy with the last few Q/A's; their answers are usually only a sentence long now! ::)
-
Looks like some of these will be on vintage cards according to the JTA Hasbro Q/A
Mawhonic (71), Naboo Pilot (72), Aurra Sing (73), Gungan Warrior (74).
No Ric Olie or G8-R3 are not numbered. ?
-
I think this is all related to this slide from SDCC...
As you can see in the slide, the Naboo Pilot, Mawhonic, Aurra Sing, and Gungan were all part of Vintage Wave 4 at one point... obviously something changed since they are now apparently in ths Walmart Ep1 wave.
The JTA list doesn't really mean anything definitive - it could just be an error on Hasbro's part (maybe they simply grabbed an old list) or it could be interpreted as sign that those four will ship in both the Walmart exclusive wave (on the Ep1 cards) and again in the Vintage line (Vintage cards). Wait and see I guess...
As for why Ric and G8 aren't numbered in JTA's list - if that's a vintage number list and these are technically NOT part of the vintage line, but rather put on the new Ep1 movie cards as some folks were reporting at SDCC, then it would make sense they wouldn't be part of the vintage numbering...
-
Thanks for the info Jeff, it helped :)
-
We just received a couple loose shots of Ric Olie & Naboo Pilot from this wave...
(http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/011VinE1_RicOlie01_TN.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/news/images/1-08/011VinE1_NabPilot01_TN.jpg) (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1316509579,52243,)
Clicky to check 'em out!
Both look outstanding... To be honest, I never realized Ric Olie's 1999 figure looked this bad. :-X
Cool thing to me is the helmet goggle variations... Nice touch for sure. :) I'll be army building the generic pilot for sure.
-
I hope they come with their trenchcoats.
-
The generic pilot really needs a trenchcoat, otherwise its just the Ric figure with a new head - I hope Hasbro isnt that lazy, heck, kids wont even be able to tell them apart - and some collectors too no doubt.
-
The should have given the generic pilot a goatee (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rya_Kirsch) to help further separate him from Ric "Widow's Peak" Olie. :P
-
Fantastic looking... great score on the pics!
-
Is the generic pilot supposed to be this guy?:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Porro_Dolphe
I would have preferred:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ellberger
or
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Arven_Wendik
-

Does John Knoll really need a figure?
These shots look pretty good. It's a tremendous move forward from the original Ric Olie sculpt.
-
A trenchcoat is a must for one of those guys.
-
I'd say for both, just because it'll probably be cloth and they'd both used them at one point or another in the film.
I was honestly floored by the difference in 1999's figure, and 2012's figures. The sculpt, the deco, the likeness of Olie... Really, that's fine work. I like the helmet variation too, for a little extra umph. But really, the helmet sculpt and detail is also much improved. Those are buckets with some intricacy.
I'm a big fan of these kinds of updates... Can't wait to see a little more in the near future. I think 2012 and TPM3D is going to be a massive push for Hasbro and Star Wars at retail.
-
They didn't show any trenchcoats on them at SDCC, so I'm not holding my breath for one on either of them at this point...
Maybe you could you fake one up using an Endor Han coat and some dye?
-
A Han coat would certainly work... Actually if anyone's able to sew, it'd be relatively simple to do, if not a little tedious. Sounds like a project.
Vintage (original Vinty) Han's coat may even be better because of the fairly large collar it has.
-
Those are nice figures, but I am with some other here. I hope they make at least one with a trench coat someday.
-
If you're interested in picking up either the Naboo Pilot (http://www.hobbystockcn.com/starwars2012vintagewalmartexclusivenaboopilot-p-465.html) or Ric Olie (http://www.hobbystockcn.com/starwars2012vintagewalmartexclusivenaboopilotricolie-p-464.html), they're both in stock at Hobbystock.cn (http://www.jedidefender.com/phpads/adclick.php?bannerid=133&zoneid=0&source=&dest=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hobbystockcn.com%2F) as of right now!
I'm already stoked to get a handful of the Naboo Pilot, and probably a couple of Ric Olie too, especially if his head swaps with other figures easily. He'll become a Rebel of some sort probably. :P
-
The Gungan Scout (http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAR-WARS-vintage-collection-GUNGAN-WARRIOR-vc-TPM-ep1-tvc-/370547888240?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5646601070#ht_500wt_1239) has shown up on eBay via Tunghori. Very sweet.
-
Yes, he's really nice and a good companion to the last Warrior figure they made. Nice accessories too. I really had hoped the BAD was coming with the binocs. Still seems the Gungan paint aps are going to be toned down a bit compared to 1999, which is a little disappointing. The originals actually had really intricate skin deco and that appears to be done away with.
Good SA figure though, makes a very specific Gungan but at the same time makes a nice generic one.
I used the guy with the horn to make a nice little army, but i'd pick more than a few of these up too if I can find them easily enough I think.
-
He is a nice figure. And who knows? Maybe with the release of the TPM in the theaters I may actually be able to find a couple of them at retail!
-
I like it. I even know where to place it on my battle of anaboo shelf!
-
So, I was updating my loose figure spreadsheet last night and added some rows for these figures...
In the "Card Type" column, I put MHM and then added MHM = Movie Heroes - Maul to my acronym list.
And then, in the "group" column, I put DTF for Discover the Force. Sadly, the next thought that popped into my brain was DJ Pauly D yelling, [jerseyshore]"Yo, these Walmart figures are DTF!"[/jerseyshore]
:-[

-
So does anyone know whats up with Mawhonic being so short? Or is that how tall he actually is in the move? I always figured he was regular Gran sized.
-
I know in the TPM video game he's short. So I think he is supposed to be shorter but maybe not that short. On Wookieepia it lists his height as 1.5 the same as Leia.
-

“I'm over here trying to clean my sneakers. I can't concentrate, all this fighting. They're talking about relationships, my sneakers are dirty.”
Anyway, apparently my walmart is actually expecting this wave...I hate Walmart exclusives. ::)
-
The gungan is really nice, as well as the torso, his head is an all new sculpt as well. Although this guy doesn't sport the extra skin detail of the old Episode I gungans, it looks like they've had a go at it on the Movie heroes Jar Jar.
-
Anyway, apparently my walmart is actually expecting this wave
How can you tell?
-
What is the expected ship date on this wave? Has anyone seen it out?
-
Yeah, I was wondering if these are expected to hit on the 30th like everything else. I've seen all the other figures out early here, but no sign of these. I wasn't really planning on hitting the stores unless this wave is expected as well, wouldn't mind having a few of them and the WM exclusives are very hit and miss locally.
-
The NYCC slide (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Conventions/New_York_Comic_Con_2011/Hasbro_Star_Wars/Official_Presentation_Slides&image=043.jpg&img=32&tt=) had the 1/30 date on these.
There were some NYCC reports that said these may come in those endcap/display trays. If that is the case, then maybe the reason these haven't leaked out yet is because no Walmarts have put out those island displays yet or something.
Or, much like every other Walmart exclusive, they could get them weeks (months?) after they were supposed to arrive. :P
-
I was thinking these might show up in shipper boxes and be put out as some sort of pallet display next week, but the pegs in the aisle are ready for these with price stickers... who knows.
Still a bit irritated that Mawhonic is the height of a Jawa, even if he is accurate that way. I like my Grans big and tough looking.
-

I got Mawhonic and Gungan Scouts in the mail today.
Pictures don't even do it justice how little Mawhonic is. I'm going to take a picture of him next to Ree-Yees and the Gran Senator when I get home. He's obviously supposed to be a Gran youngling.
Funny thing is the slide from NYCC made him look like a full-sized figure.

Okay here are some pics. From left to right, we have the Fambaa gungan pack-in, POTJ Gungan, Legacy Gungan, and the last one is the new Walmart exclusive DTF Gungan:
Here's baby Mawhonic with his dad, Ree-Yees.

And while I was cleaning up the Gungans, Hank Pym took to his giant form and snatched Mawhonic off the table. He was yelling something about detecting a skrull, I dunno:
-
And flipping us all the bird while he's at it. ;D
-
He looks like he should have a milk in his hand while Ree Yees pats him on the head.
Speaking of... is Ree Yees too big? Or Ask Aak or whatever his name was? 3PO's pretty small but I was thinking Ree Yees wasn't a TON taller than 3PO... might just not remember it well though.
Nobody is that short though except midgets, so to me he's just a midget Gran.
-

My 3P0 and Ree Yees are about the same height, which correlates well to this pic:

-
That's about right then I guess. He's about 3PO's height, but 3PO is supposedly fairly short (err, well Daniels is short anyway, on IMDB). So 3PO and Ree Yees could both be a little on the taller side.
-

The Senator Ask Aak or whatever is a taller figure though by about 1/2".
-
Thanks for the pic Dressel. Here's another comparison here (http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1070065-17/).
-
Well, he's gotta fit in a podracer somehow.
-
Okay here are some pics. From left to right, we have the Fambaa gungan pack-in, POTJ Gungan, Legacy Gungan, and the last one is the new Walmart exclusive DTF Gungan:
Those Gungans all look nce together. I haven't 'retired' any of my old Gungans, they all still blend pretty nicely with one another. I wish the same could be said for a large number of other POTF2/POTJ army builders I have... :P
-
Walmart exclusive DTF Gungan
Dammit, I laughed.
But yeah, the price of new figures is causing me to pass on podracers (for now) but that Mawhonic is really, really short. I'll be passing initially as well.
-
I guess the shortness is the reason very few humans race pods. You have to be the size of a child to race one. Now that we have all the racers, where are their pods?
-
I still think Lucas should have made it a Swoop Race rather than a Pod Race.
-
Naboo Pilot and Olie show more detailed sculpt on belt, bandoliers, coat and helmet.
Seems as the new way to launch new OT pilots, redifine their sculpt in detail.
-
I still think Lucas should have made it a Swoop Race rather than a Pod Race.
I agree... it's like my annoyance that early Y-Wings and Z-95's weren't incorporated into the movies, or the AT-PT... Lucas could've cashed in on the established EU but didn't.
Swoops would've been cooler than pods and easier to make more/all of them and thus shill them all instead of just two pods.
-
I didn't buy any of the pod racer vehicles from EI. I think there were only 2 though right? Sebulba and Anakin I remember seeing. They didn't interest me much. I do love the scenes where we get a huge smattering of aliens though, like Jabba's Palace and the Cantina. And the pod race was like that too so I have bought every pod race pilot and any alien from the stands or walking around.
-
Yeah just 2 pods, but tons of pilots... If they'd flown swoops, they could've cranked them all out rather easily in the deluxe type format.
-
I have 10 podrace aliens on my shelf and I do not have Rats Tyrell yet.
-
I have 10 podrace aliens on my shelf and I do not have Rats Tyrell yet.
I saw one today. Want me to get it for you?
-
This probably means nothing, but I busted out the Nintendo 64 the other day and tonight I logged a few minutes in Star Wars Episode I: Racer. Anyway, they show the pilots with the racers at the select screen, and Mawhonic is about the size of Anakin, and twice the size of Ratts Tyrell.
-

Sure if you don't have to go out of your way too much. These things are supposed to be out in a week or so but who knows. Gonna PM you now Matt, thanks.
-

True story, I found Rats Tyrell and the rest of the wave at the front TRU display today.
Don't forget your BOGO coupons people they are clutch!!!!!!
-
Mawhonic reminds me of the small jocks in horse racing. come to think of it they (podracers) are all small.
-
So, I guess the odds of these being at retail this week is pretty slim...no? Has there been any reports of them leaking anywhere yet? Walmart seriously sucks ass on this ****. I wonder if the demise of Jabba and Kit Fisto's Fighter was due to their pisspoor management of the whole thing. My local Super Center never even carried either of those (as was the case around the nation).
-
Yeah, these things are probably stuck back in the warehouse next to all those TCW exclusive DVD 2-packs Hasbro made for them but mysteriously got "lost"...
-
The logical part of me wants to say thta these are going to make it to market on or around February 10th. But WalMart is so *#$&ed at times that they defy any sort of logic.
-
I didn't even see peg space or a tag for these things at the Walmarts I checked today. If they're not coming in some kind of a pre-filled display, that does not bode well.
-
The Wal-Marts in my area have had dedicated peg space for these for a couple weeks - hopefully we'll see these hit in a couple weeks like Nicklab suggested.
-
I could see a February 10 launch date... my Wal-Marts have signs on the LEGO aisle hyping that they're putting out the new SW sets on February 10.
-
It looks like they recolored the Destroyer Droid Bubble to a more accurate color from the TAC version. I may picked up 4 when I see them. These were also spotted in GA. So the south seems to be breaking these out. Hopefully they will show up soon, I am looking forward to having all of the Pod Flags. ;)
-
So how many times can they put the same Quigon and Obiwan on different cardbacks and sell them at different price points?
-
Picked up the figures from this wave today, the display wasn't in the action figure aisle though. It was by girls toys. Is the drawback new? They had that exclusive as well.
-
No, that's the old Dewback, maybe a new/different deco, no figures, very lame.
-
Picked up the figures from this wave today, the display wasn't in the action figure aisle though. It was by girls toys. Is the drawback new? They had that exclusive as well.
Was it just an endcap display, or one of those standalone 4-way type deals?
I was worried something like this would happen...I hate how Walmart cannot keep all the SW toys in one aisle.
-
I'm assuming it's an aisle display, as that's seemingly what everyone's reported seeing. I've heard nothing of an endcap, just the aisle thing posted out in front of the main action figure aisle or somewhere relatively close by (toys).
That's fine by me, I just hope they get ample supply of the wave.

It was on an endcap display, three sided, the front side had the figures and the sides were the vehicles and dewback. The droid seemed to the rarest of the bunch, only saw 3 of him in the whole display and it looked like i was the first one to get to it.
-
That's the first I've heard of an endcap now... Hmmm. Was it at a bigger or smaller WM?
I know one I frequent is a smaller store and they often got endcaps and never got the aisle displays. Was the endcap on a main aisle or was it facing towards the back?

Found this wave today at my Walmart:
Bought these 4 and was able to use BOGO coupons no problem at all. Left everything else, wasn't interested.
My finds were a little different than the others I read. My Walmart just had exactly 1 of each figure in the wave hanging on the pegs with the rest of the Vintage and MH/CW stuff.
Also I found those 2 WM exclusive battle packs with the droids in their harnesses and the Sebulba one.
Love the orange trench coats on the Naboo pilots BTW.
-
I discovered the Force a little late missing Ric Olie but got the other 5 new figures and I picked up the improved Destroyer Droid. The sheild is recolored to reflect the movie more and you can see through it to recreate the sheild effect. I have to find three more now but it does look good. I like when they upgrade carry forward figures it gives me reason to buy them more.
I did not see an endcap they were just on the pegs with Qui-Gon and Yoda left. somepicked up Maul, Obi and Ric. I never thought I would go on the hunt for Ric Olie...the wave is great and I will buy several more Gungans and Naboo generics. Wal-Mart got the best deal as far as exclusives go.
-
Who wants to play the new game "Guess how many 3D Glasses will be laying in the Wal Mart aisle by the end of February"?
-
the glasses are really crappy
mine fell apart pretty much instantly
-
Who wants to play the new game "Guess how many 3D Glasses will be laying in the Wal Mart aisle by the end of February"?
I'll play "zero" and win. Because they are one with the cardback, and need to be cut off. It takes a pretty good effort with a pair of scissors.
-
I never thought I would go on the hunt for Ric Olie...
Yeah that's how you can tell that you've really bottomed out.
-

Its funny because I found this wave today too, a case worth, and he was the only one not on the pegs! I had the eerie feeling he was hiding and staring right at me but alas I could not find creepin Ric Olie.
-
Found these tonight in bulk...
My nearby WM had the aisle display which was packed. The yellow droid is REALLY packed in a lesser quantity if what i saw is true. I dug through them looking for a 2nd of him, and I had a hard time finding it, but by my eyes I was the first person to touch this display. Everything was pristine on it.
Also this WM had a few sets on pegs in the main aisle as well.
Also put out all the new Legos. I shall have those Endor Rebels and Sandtroopers once a sale hits. :) Patience will pay off for me.
On the DtF front though, great figures... I'm going to probably pick up a couple Naboo pilots over time (1 of each for some headsculpt variety to swap onto Rebel pilots and vice versa). I think I'm going to pass on too many extras though. Other than the pilots, an extra droid, and an extra Aurra Sing (one of the coolest figures ever IMO, just by looking at her on the card), that's plenty. No extra Gungans for me, no unnecessary rehashes like the Tusken... They're cool but I've gotta cut back.
-
Also noticed Mawhonic's flag...
I hadn't seen any of these flags in person and didn't really look closely at them in the boxed set when I saw it at TRU, but opening Mawhonic really opened my eyes to just how cheap these flags are.
The flagpole is a Geonosian Pike if I'm not mistaken, and the flag is a flimsy cheap plastic just taped on. I thought a fabric was what we'd get. Wow. Jayson's downloads are as good or better an option to go with IMO.
-
Finally found this whole wave tonight at Walmart on my way home, and my experience was the same as Dressel's - they had exactly one case out on the pegs right by the MH and CW stuff. I see they used a black bottom coloration to differentiate between the other lines.
I picked up the only one I wanted - Aurra, but she looks like a dude. Not a very flattering sculpt compared to the image on the card. Very glad to have this checked off my list though.
Also saw the new Walmart BP's, also in the regular aisle with everything else. The Droid set is kind of sharp.
-
Found about four cases at my local WM tonight. I don't know if they had a display or what, since everything was on pegs and the other exclusives were present also. I picked up Mawhonic, G8-R3, the Naboo pilots, a Gungan, and the Droid BP. Debated on the Droideka and Aurra Sing, but I'll wait and see on those.
I really thought Mawhonic was a bigger character. He's not even taller than an R2 unit. But this is a great group of figures. :)
-
Sweet Score Ben, they have any left over
-
Opened it all...
I have to say, with little doubt at the moment barring something really eye-popping impressing me at Toy Fair, that Aurra Sing is maybe the finest single action figure we will receive in 2012.
What's more though, she actually LACKS articulation in the ankles!
I like ankle joints, don't get me wrong, but she's a prime example that Hasbro CAN eliminate ankle joints (so long as they keep the ankles/feet "straight and flat"), and a figure can be outstanding in every way and supremely poseable IMO.
She rocks a bitchin' briefcase with cool sculpted details inside. On one side she has some computery looking stuff that looks like it might work with her antenna implant in her noggin. There's no paint to it, and there should be, but it's still really cool. On the other side though are four compartments with "padding" sculpted to them that each snugly hold lightsaber hilts.
She features four saber hilts, and unfortunately one appears to be Anakins and one appears to be either Jedi Luke's or Prequal Obi-Wan's (I'm not a saber expert to immediately recognize the differences), and a third is fairly unique. Also the sabers are molded grey like the brief case and that detracts from them a bit. You may wanna replace them with some die-cast Saga ones you can nab cheap (I'm gonna go this route). The silver will pop in the case I think.
She has two working holsters and a sniper rifle. The pistols are a bitching sculpt, all the weapons have deco on them too.
The deco on Sing is nice... Not really dirtied up much but the eyes are kind of nice for a figure these days and there's silver on the antenna, etc. Her hair's a separate sculpt and has a nice paintjob to it. Her vest is removable (as is her pistol belt!).
She's got the pretty basic "Super Articulation" going on except her torso is a swivel joint just under her boobies (which hides it astonishingly well), and again no ankle joints.
The sculpt is pretty good/accurate to the film... She's got that gaunt creepy look to her face and the body has the well built curves to it. I was really impressed with the little details put into the body suit, and the little things like the way her fingers are sculpted so thin and separated differently on each hand (gives her hands a little "life").
Anyway, all that said, she's OUTSTANDING.
Hands down, I really have to be impressed by whatever figures are debuted from here on out in just about every category. Aurra's lack of ankles is really a non-issue, as she's completely poseable, and I'm anxious to put her up with a good realistic Baby Boba Fett someday!
I'm really surprised... I was kind of disinterested in figures, but this one really caught me as high quality. The rest are nice, but this one is nnnnnnice.
-
Jesse, by any chance do you have the Clone Wars Aurra to compare the realistic one to? I had been assuming they were reusing parts of, or most of the same sculpt from that one.
-
I don't have it in my hand at this moment, but I would say absolutely NO parts are re-used. The only thing that might be from a previous figure is the sniper rifle... And that I am not sure on. The figure is 100% new as far as I can tell.
-
I found Ric Olie at another WM - I am good now.
-
Found these this week... passed on the astro droid because I just didn't feel like buying it after buying the asto 4-pk...
Aurra Sing - This is a 10/10 figure, and looks to be 100% new unless they reused the hair from the POTJ mold, which I don't think they did. Hasbro nailed the likeness, articulation is great, nice paint application, awesome accessories, great dual holsters, etc. I love this figure.
Ric Olie - Very cool, I like everything about this figure, he's a definite upgrade over the 1999 version. The only part that isn't exciting is the fabric coat. It looks kind of silly compared to the stellar sculpt of the actual figure.
Naboo Pilot - Same as Ric Olie, only a different head and the helmet's goggles are positioned different. Really like this guy... though the paint job around the hair wasn't that great. The "skin" is bleeding up into the hair somewhat.
Destroyer Droid - Just a repaint of the TAC version, but this is by far the best sculpt of this droid, and I decided to spring for another for my droid army.
Gungan Warrior - Really like this... the Legacy version was great, but this one seems even better. I think it's the subdued paint scheme? Either way, it's a fantastic figure and I'd like to get a couple more.
Mawhonic - Wow, like some have said, this figure is even weirder in person. It's so tiny... and looks so damn strange! I'd expect that a Gran that is a child (guess he's a child?) would have a larger head... but the sculpt is downright amazing... as is the articulation. This seems like a shrunked down figure... the sculptor did an amazing job. They even got the hole in his left ear added in. I snuck him into work today and he's been keeping me company at my desk. He also went to lunch with me, and has made it into the restroom a few times.

Ask and you shall receive. Unless you ask for money. Then ask and you probably won't receive.

Oh and the sniper rifle is completely different too. Same size roughly, but a different sculpt.
Love me the Naboo Pilots. Grabbed 4 more today. Ric Olie is everywhere here, if you guys seriously can't find him within a few more days PM me and I'll try to get him for you.
-
just commented on your FB page, but to me, that Aurra looks too small. Anyone else think so? Or is she accurate this way?
-

I don't know, but as I was opening the figure tonight I started thinking to myself, had I bumped into Aurra on my college campus and we were both single, I might not have said no. It just got weird until I opened Ric Olie and then I started feeling a little more normal again.
-
Okay just looked this up. Michonne Bourriague is the actress who played Aurra Sing and she is 5'9". So I'm guessing Hasbro did underscale the new one somewhat.
-

what I find odd is the differences between Mawhonic and Ree-Yees. Mawhonic's hands are human, but his feet are not - Ree-Yees is the exact opposite. Are we now supposed to have the understanding that there are different races of Grans like there are Niktos?
And about Aurra again, the height and lankiness of her figure is what I always liked about her. I haven't opened mine yet so I am not sure if I will be slightly disappointed when I do open her.
-
I don't have Aura here to compare her to a figure like a Stormtrooper that one could consider "average" but that's a good way to go... or stand her near the Jedi Luke and see if she's similar. That's about Hammil's height.
The new pilots make the old ones look knock-offish by comparison.
-
I also scored on these at Wally after Ben tipped me off to the mother load. Got everyone (Ben already picked up the droid and Mawhonic for me) and I have to say this is an extremely awesome set of figures.
I bought three pilots. That's how great they are. I really love these guys and they are super easy customs - Naboo Royal Guard, Rebel Fleet Trooper, A-Wing Pilot(s) and the Endor Soldiers will swap out. Endor soldiers a little loose, but instant Bravo squad.
-
That's the first I've heard of an endcap now... Hmmm. Was it at a bigger or smaller WM?
I know one I frequent is a smaller store and they often got endcaps and never got the aisle displays. Was the endcap on a main aisle or was it facing towards the back?
It is a larger store, they moved it today to the back end cap of the action figure aisle.
-
So far all I've found of this wave are Ric Olie & G8-R3 as well as the leftovers like the Tusken Raider and Destroyer Droid. It goes without saying that the Qui-Gon's, Obi-Wan's and Darth Maul's have been lingering.
-
Being that I don't have any Wallymarts anywhere within an hour of me, I sure can't wait til Aurra sees general release in TVC. I seriously she had ankle joints until yesterday when I first saw loose pics of her.
-
My Mawhonic and Aurra both have one leg longer than the other. ???
It reminds me of my old POTF Bespin Han.
-
That happens WAY too often, especially at the cost of figures these days. I didn't notice it on my figures, but Barriss Offee from last year was widely reported to have the one leg shorter issue going on, including myself. It really ruins her.
-
I went to Walmart yesterday and they had the 3D movie wave. There were 3D glasses all over the place! Some kids had a field day removing them from the cards and scatering them throughout the asile. There were only a couple of cards that still had the glasses intack. Weird since we were just talking about this happening.

I don't get that. They are one with the card. It's not even perforated. If you want to take them off, you need a scissor or you need to raggedly rip them off with your hands.

It wasn't kids. I did it. I wanted to stick it to MOC collectors. Also, I thought they were x-ray glasses and kept looking for a pair that wasn't "defective". :P
-
Yeah I've not personally seen people ripping the glasses off (yet). I can see it happening but I'm more inclined to think it's someone intentionally being a douche than a kid, due to the work involved. I could see a kid nabbing one pair, but not nearly every figure or something. That smacks of douchebaggery.
-
I found a lone case hanging on the pegs yesterday. No glasses on the floor but the cards were bent to hell and back. I snagged Ric Olie, Aurra, Gungan and the Naboo Pilot, who looks like the left half of his face is melting. Would have gotten the Destroyer but the bubble was crushed so bad it was about to rip off the card.
-
I found the wave, but only bought the Astro-mech droid. Was thinking about Aurra, but will power won out.
-
After catching the movie on Friday, I hit the "across town" WM and they had one of the aisle display thingys full of this wave (our local store just had a handful on the pegs and nothing else). I haven't noticed any of the glasses missing either. Unless I missed something when opening mine up, I thought you'd have to cut (or rip) them off too, didn't seem like something that would easily fall off. As far as the figures go, they all seem pretty great. Aurra Sing and the Pilots in particular seem very nice.
-
Nabbed 2 extra Naboo pilots... debating on an extra Ric Olie at some point too.
-

I wanted 8 but only 6 come in the Walmart displayer. So I bought 2 extra Ric Olies for headswaps to get to my 8 man Naboo Pilot squadron.
LOVE this figure. Might crack my top 25 all-time list.
-
Since there are no Wal-marts in the City, I'm gonna need some help. I'm only interested in Ric and G8-R3 since the other new ones will be on the Vintage card later.
-
I'll keep an eye out Steve, while I'm out.

PM sent.

Are these pretty regular to find at Walmart nowadays? There aren't any stores near me either, but I'm thinking about trekking out to the burbs tomorrow morning and want to at least make an educated guess before I spend an hour and a half (or more) trying to pick them up.
-
I have 3 Wal-Marts within a 5 mile radius of my house and two of them have gotten the DTF wave, although so far everything has been hitting in small numbers. I'd say that if those suburban WMs have a good track record of exclusives/clearances then they probably have them.
-
For me Rob it's really 50/50... one WM has, or had a ton, and then the next one up the highway never got one in.
One got in a single case too... It's odd to say the least. I think more may arrive though. Just speculating a little.
-
I have 2 Walmarts that I frequent all the time, one got the 72 DTF 3D figure displayer, the other got nothing. I absolutely looted the displayer for myself and other board members. I took every Ric Olie, every Naboo Pilot, half the R8-G3 droids, half the gungan warriors.
-
Okay... thanks guys. Based on this I'll give it a shot. There are 2 or 3 Walmarts I can get to without having to spend 5 hours running around like a moron. If I don't have any luck, I might have to start begging in the forum.
-
I absolutely looted the displayer for myself and other board members.
And I appreciate it greatly. ;)
-
I had about the same experience as Jesse. One WM (our closest) seemed to get one case in, and only had four figures left when I found them. The other one across town from us had the seperate display thingy, and it was full and had plenty a week ago when I found them (that store seems to avoid the collector/scalper traffic a little more from my experience).
-
I bought extras for the MN guys and they seem to be covered. They are headed back to the store on Monday unless I can help someone else out.
-
I only have Ric Olie, but I agree that Ric Olie/Naboo Pilot is a wonderful figure. I am looking forward to getting a few of the generic pilots. I actually think the oversized coat is pretty neat so I don't mind that both pilot figures include them.
In addition to Ric Olie I got two Gungans, the yellow R5 droid, Aurra Sing, a Tusken Raider, and two Destroyer Droids. The Gungan is a pretty cool retool and Aurra Sing is awesome. The R5, Destroyer, and Tusken are nothing special but it is nice that Hasbro put the best versions back on the shelves.
One thing that might matter for the completists: the Destroyer Droid is actually a repaint. The browns appear to be darker, and the silver seems toned down. The shield accessory is also a much lighter blue color, and you can make out the shape of the figure inside. Below is a comparison picture with the TAC release on the left and the DTF release on the right.

Different color force fields for the Droideka? I guess I have to get another one so that I can make the full force field.
Dammit.
-
The Droideka is awesome. I never saw the 30AC version so this is my first time
playing with displaying it. Kinda sad that the sculpt from 1999 blows away the gimmick missile launcher one we always get stuck with.
-
Against my better judgement I went looking... Spent nearly 4 hours going to 5 Walmarts, and found 3 figures. Total waste of a day.
If anyone stumbles across Aurra Sing, the Droid, and Mawhonic all in one shot, I'd love to take them off your hands.
-

Do you really want them on the Maul card? If not, Aurra and Mawhonic will be release in the Vintage line later.
-
Nope, I'm opening them. I didn't realize they were going wide-release later. That doesn't apply to the Droid?
-

No, Ric and G8 are the only ones that won't be making a reappearance down the road.
-
And we'll probably see the down the road too.
I picked up Ric, Naboo Pilot, Aurra and the Gungan. I might get one or two more Gungans if I see them.
-
I'm also looking for Ric, the Naboo pilot dude and the R5 droid if anyone wouldn't mind shipping them loose up to Canada. Walmart Canada passed on all the exclusives so I'm pretty much out of luck there.
-
I forgot to mention the Aurra Sing figure is much improved over the POTJ version....better likeness and better pose.
Jesse will be happy with this figure due to the accessories. Long rifel, two blasters (with holsters) and the suitcase full of massage wands lightsabers. :D
-

No, Ric and G8 are the only ones that won't be making a reappearance down the road.
Great, thanks.
If anyone runs into an extra of the droid and wouldn't mind sending it my way, I'd love you forever.
I can just wait it out on the other two.
-
I wish I had seen this before I went out this morning. I saw a lone G8 droid on the pegs.
-

I just picked one up for Foster no worries.

Yep, I'm all set. Thanks Matt!

I'm not sure if you meant it that way Diddly but the Droideka in DTF is the 2007 figure, not the 1999 figure...
I hate the shield, honestly, even if it got a better color to it... I hate that texturing on it. A smooth bubble would've been great since it really would make it much easier to see through with a proper very light purple hue to it.
-
I'm not sure if you meant it that way Diddly but the Droideka in DTF is the 2007 figure, not the 1999 figure...
You're both right on this one. The DTF figure is the 2007 figure with a slightly different paint job, but the 2007 figure was the 1999 figure with a new "head" piece that had the extended sensors instead of a complete curve (I think they may have just used the same head from the 2005 ROTS version with the launching missiles, but I'm not too sure about that, as I don't have the action-feature impaired version). That said, the Droideka (1999, 2007, or 2012) continues to be one of the better figures of all time, IMHO. Back in the day of 5 dollar figures and TRU's B2GO sales, I army built the crap out of the the 2007 Droidekas. That said, I have WAY too many blue shield balls hanging around (har har). :)
-
Are you sure on that Doc P? I thought the bodies were different between the two and that the 2007 figure was all new?
-
Here's a pic I snapped of the DTF Droideka... The body is definitely reused from 1998, as you can see, and really the only thing that would really improve the sculpt is if they could add ball jointed shoulders (they're swivels). The head appears to be the same as the action feature one from 2002/2005 but I only have one of those and it's being used as a stand at the back of my shelf for all of the warped Battle Droids. :P
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v283/DiddlySquat/DTFdroideka.jpg)
-
Wow, weird. I always figured that 2007 figure was new. I never minded the 1999 figure except for the mishapen head so that's cool that it actually was just that good.
-
Not sure whate everyone's experience was with this stuff but my WM stores all put out at least 3 to 5 more cases of DTF figures just mixed into the regular area... it's making a real mess ultimately.
Most had sold through their stock initially but now, they've got a bunch. I nabbed another Naboo pilot tonight for fun... They're all nice figures but now every WM here has a bunch, haha. Not necessarilly a great thing now that TPM3D is kind of out of the minds of a lot of folks I think.
-
Mine have yet to restock from their initial shipments (only 2 of my 3 stores have gotten them in) but I've gotten just about everything I need. I do want to track down another Gungan Warrior, maybe 2 more Naboo pilots and a bunch of Destroyer Droids...
-
Well my mind is completely gone because DTF has a whole different meaning in my mind.
As for the figures, my walmart has plenty of Ric around, seems to be hanging more than the others.
-
Yeah Ric moved well at first, I think mostly due to the hype he and the droid got for not getting vintage repacks later, but now... well, yeah Ric Olie's up to his old tricks it seems. ;D
The Naboo pilot is definitely selling better though,s o good move on Hasbro's part to NOT reship Olie... I honestly thought that was a headscratcher but the better army builder is definitely winning out.
I'm surprised how well the Gungan has sold. The last Gungan was a bit of a pegwarmer, but not this one. Weird. The last one was really just as good and accurate so, go figure.
Aurra Sing... not really doing as well as the rest. Weird.
And of course Obi and QGJ are everywhere.
-
After a couple of weeks it seems that all of the new characters in this WM exclusive wave have been moving, and the repacks like Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Yoda & the Destroyer are lingering. Funny enough, I think I've only seen the Tusken Raider one time.
-
I've only ever seen the Tusken once or twice myself. I was hoping these would have dropped with the Vintage price cuts. I was hoping to grab a few Tuskens if the price was right.
-
Ryan, just wait and see if your area is like mine and more and more of these surface. YOu'll see loads of Tuskens and everyone else then. :) I still see the droid the least, but I also noticed this weekend at the Steel City Con show, dealers had shitloads of that droid that they're gonna wind up choking on I do believe.
-
Oh, we have TONS of the DTF wave. For whatever reason though I just haven't seen many of the Tuskens anywhere.
-
I'm not sure where we were discussing this, but I'll just put this thought in here...
So I was out and about, and it just sort of struck me as odd that I barely saw the Queen's Astromech set anywhere. I think I saw it one time, and I was just thinking what a shame that was. It's so vastly superior, IMO, than a lot of the other exclusive offerings at Wal-Mart except for the DTF wave itself...
And I really liked that it was the BAD sculpt that got used as well. It added to the droid diversity.
But is this one of the toughest to find 2012 products out there? I'm thinking it might be. Not a lot has been hard to find, but I know I haven't seen this thing too often.
-

Adam P seemed to be implying the same thing over at GH. Apparently these sets only got stocked initially and there have been no subsequent restocks?
I can only find 1-2 around town here now, the other set seems more common. I'll probaby pick them up for trade bait. Would be a good straight up swap for a Scout Bomber.
-
I have never seen them, which sucks because i would have bought them. Lots of the other battlepacks though.
-
That's gonna be a tough trade I think... One's DEFINITELY rare, the other one is still being found at least. :) Though for how long, not sure, but it sure is an odd duck. I'll check around if I see it since I just want to swap some droid parts onto the nicely colored plain astromech bodies. This is another of those weird things that could resurface too... like Jabba's Dais. You just never know.
BTW I picked another Naboo pilot up... I'm tempted to get Gungans but man, it's tough to army build something I care so little about, just so my shelf looks a tad more full. :-\

After missing the boat when these first got released, I finally managed to track down the last of the new figures from this wave, the Gungan Warrior.
-
And now, I've gotten around to opening these DTF figures. I can't deny these are very well made.
-
I bought these initially and have not opened them yet as I originally planned on having the possibility of returning them later. I figured we would see them pop up in a future case assortment down the line and therefore I would not need the DTF release as I would get the same figure out of said case assortment.
Well, for the foreseeable future, they are not being recarded and put into future cases. I will still hold off on opening them until probably the full term (90 days) of the receipt, but it looks like I will be keeping them.
-
So, is the new Jar Jar figure in this assortment? Is he going to be released in the Vintage line eventually?
-
Saw and bought another astromech from the wave... I'm seeing restocks of these fairly often. Gonna customize the droid to some extent.
-

No. Jar Jar is coming later this year on vintage card only. The current Jar Jar is different, less articulated on a Movie Heroes card.

Yeah I think he's due out around Fall in the Vintage line but as scockery noted, nothing of him in the DTF. His Movie Heroes figure looks good though... better than a lot of the Movie Heroes figures, but his Vintage one is to be "definitive" I guess.

At the beginning of this year, I had the intention of buying the Movies Heroes version of Jar Jar, since it was going to be better than any version that I have of that character in my collection (you know, the ones from 1999 and 2000). But ever since learning about the color error with the figure's vest/shirt, I have decided to pass on this version and just wait for TVC. Heck, I've waited years for a definitive update for this character - what's six more months, right?
-
Yeah plus it'll be a tad better too, overall... at least I'd assume that anyway. But deco issues and stuff, those are all good reasons to wait too. Though that MH one doesn't look too bad though, shockingly. I'm curious why other MH figures aren't as nice.

That's a good question, since Jar Jar is arguably the best new figure in the Movie Heroes line so far. Until I was informed of the color errors, he seemed to be on par with figures from The Vintage Collection, despite having a little less articulation. Why the inconsistency with regard to the other figures in the second wave?

Lack of ball jointed shoulders, no wrists, no ankles seem like more than a little less. To me anyway. The shoulders were the deal breaker.
-
I can do without them myself... To me it's the knees and elbows that, if they're not at least jointed, the figure's really sad... though, $9 you should get the elbows, shoulders, ankles, etc.

Oh, he has swivel shoulders; I hadn't noticed that. And from the pictures over at Rebelscum, I cannot tell whether or not has he has ankle joints. I thought that he did. But, it's all a moot point for me anyway, since I plan on passing on this figure in favor of the figure being released later this year in The Vintage Collection.

The only figures I bought from this wave were Ric Olie, Naboo Pilot, Gungan Warrior, Mawkhonic, and G8-R3. I never saw the Droids Battlepack. I don't remember seeing the Pod Racers either. I was going to get the Racers for the Flags but that temptation went away. I do think the flags were good accesories those since we'll never get any new Pod Racer vehicles. I am waiting to buy Aura Sing and Jar-Jar Binks for the vinty cardbacks. I may or may not for some of the others. I mainly just wanted Maul, Kenobi, and Jinn for the vintage cardbacks. I may get Anakin Padawan, Sidious, and the Battle Droid though.
My son does want the light-up saber figures. I have been looking for that wave but have not seen it yet. To bad they did not upgrade Padme Theed Battle to SA. I would have snatched that up along with a new Panaka. Oh well!
-
I just got back from Walmart with a DTF Darth Maul figure. I want to compare the paints app of this new one to the Evolutions Maul that I already have in my collection. I'll keep the one with the best paint apps; and if they are indistinguishable, then I'll take back this new one.
Yes, I'm an OCD collector. ;)

Finally !! Something to sink my wallet into.. :D
With no interest in the clone wars have spent little(actually that's a good thing)over the past two years. I splurged over the latest offerings. Podracers, Gungan Warrior, and Tuskin Raider are Too Cool.
Also picked up all the QS droids too.
I am enthused !! ;D

I've had no problem finding the all the figs, but have never even sniffed the BPs. If anyone finds an extra set of the Royal Starship pack, shoot me an email!

Randomly hit an off the beaten pat WM last night and found a few of these still sitting on the shelves, all $10. No wonder they're still there.
