Star Wars Back-to-back X 3!
« on: July 21, 2005, 06:41 PM »
I'm so hoping for this next summer.  If the TV show isn't coming till 2007, at least, they can fill 2006 with this.

Have Star Wars Saturdays at the local MEGAplex!  All 6 movies over the whole day!  Make it a super affair with like 30 minute intermissions and a 2 hour lunch.

$50 or so, and just go all out.  Have prizes and trivia competitions, Themed food.  OOOOH baby, I can't wait!

George'll love it too! That's like free money. lol

That's not a bad idea. LOTR had good success when they did their marathon back when ROTK was released and they know SW fans would line up for it.

It would be cool but I think Lucas wants to keep the films on lockdown now if he is going to release them in the 3-D format in the next few years

I can envision this happening as occasional special events on an individual theater basis, but even leaving aside the 3D versions for the moment, a wide rerelease wouldn't be cost-effective anymore and I don't foresee it being so ever again. :'(

The advent of VHS (now DVD) and good home theater systems has killed repeat viewings and theatrical re-releases. Nowadays movies start off with a huge opening weekend bang and fizzle abruptly.

Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely NO problem with films being available at home after they're out of theaters. In fact I think it's great all around: the consumer gets to see "older" movies in the comfort of their homes, the studios make more money, and video stores make money. Everybody's happy. The problem arises when the timescale gets out of whack like it is today. DVD releases are so soon that they cripple the theatrical presentation. Theatrical windows are now compressed to like 3 weeks and that's depressing.

yeah, opening weekend is all the studios seem to aim for. I think there is nothing like the theatre experience though.

I do hope there is a super Star Wars Saturday at a theatre near me.  I'd digg up the cash for that!

Ask yourself this though, would they play them I-VI? Or play them IV-VI,I-III?

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to the Saga -- its gotta be IV, V, VI, I, II, III ;D

Not to derail the thread with this whole new debate, but here's an alternative order I've heard of: ANH-ESB-TPM-AOTC-ROTS-ROTJ. Thus the prequels are Vader's flashback/recollections after Luke escapes at the end of ESB.

You get all the exposition about the Force and Jedi in ANH, which is really lacking in TPM.

You preserve the surprise when we find Yoda and the "Luke I am your father" revelation--at least in theory. In practice, you'd probably have trouble finding people, even those who haven't seen the films, who don't recognize Yoda and know Vader is his father.

And ROTJ is still the series finale.

It sounds intriguing. Someday I'll try it out.

That is an interesting idea.  Possibly a way to watch them come 2 November.
This is the way.

I have spoken.
