Of course, todays' exclusives have a habit of becoming tomorrow's battle pack fodder, so plan accordingly!

A case in point: StarwarsShop Exclusive

Well, since I (inadvertently) stirred up the pot again on these figures, I thought it only fair to re-evaluate based on a closer inspection, and not a quick store assessment.  I swung by my 2 local Wally's tonight and luckily was (just) able to get a complete set.  I haven't opened them up yet but I examined them closely in the package.

Grievous - I agree this is the complete dud.  Even my ship pilot Grievous duplicate looks better.  At least it does come with 4 lightsabers and a blaster.  Score 0.  Cloak looks nice though so I'll give it 1/4.

Maul - very nice figure, but got it.  Score 1/2, plus 1/4 for the cloak.

Fett - nice figure, slightly less helmet paint than previously, adds the blaster.  But got it, so score 1/2.

Anakin - nice figure, slightly less head paint than before - but got it, so score 1/2.

Corran - new figure, pilot (me like) lit lightsaber and hilt alone, and a blaster.  Score 1.

Battle droid, unique variant, score 1.

BL-17 is unique and a cool looking figure.  Score 1.

Maul's 1-5YQ is also pretty cool.  Score 1.

The 2 R2 units are straight repaints, so OK, techically new figures and I'm OK with that so score 2.

Darktrooper - Awesome.  Easily counts as 2 figures, so score 2.  (Ok, so I loved Dark Forces.)

So, with this revised scoring system (isn't accounting wonderful?) the $85 spent (pre-tax) works out to ....  $8.5 per figure.   So with this I would rate the value as quite reasonable, at least considering it is an 'exclusive'.  Of course, todays' exclusives have a habit of becoming tomorrow's battle pack fodder, so plan accordingly!

It's called "opinion".  I thought that's what forums were for?

I'm sure everyone is capable of doing their own math.

The point was the email, not the $.

Don't get hung up on the word 'dishonest'... rephrase to 'intellectually dishonest.'  It just was.  You're certainly entitled to your opinion.  I'm free to respond.

OK 'nuff said.  Don't want to start a war here!

I will say this though, that IS one BADass of a BAD droid - and really that's the item driving this whole set.  I mean I do want it, just balking a bit at the cost....

Dishonest would be stealing the droid parts out the pack.

What is dishonest, is saying that these sets come out to $12.xx per figure when it is quite literally, mathematically, $7.xx per figure.

Since it's 5 droids, one Corran and one DT new, it's really $12.14 per figure.  Look Hasbro, we don't like being played for suckers.

Not to be sticking up for Hasbro, because I do agree that these should have cost a little less, but that's a pretty dishonest thing to suggest.

You can't sit around saying that "we're being played for suckers" when you have the very simple option to not buy these.  Additionally, Wal-Mart probably has something to do with the price being what it is.

Dishonest would be stealing the droid parts out the pack.

I was suggesting a direct email to Hasbro since this was a good analysis, from a certain point of view.  Hasbro does listen and does care, even though they can't always deliver.  The "sucker" comment was a deliberate attempt to use an evocative phrase to elicit a response.  Tacky maybe, but not dishonest.  Look I'm betting everyone posting here is a fan and supporter of  Hasbro by buyiing product.  Lots of it.  Why else bother to post?   Believe me, I support the big H big-time.  When I tried counting my 'lot' I believe it was around 2000 figures, and way beyond that by now.  Plus vehicles, which are my favorites actually.   The point is I already have purchased MANY Grevious's, Fett's, Obi-wan's and Anakin's and am reaching saturation point.  I only have so many vehicles that need a pilot.  It feels a little cynical of Hasbro to place such a desirable BAD in such company.   It would have been nice with such a collector-oriented set to have more inspired choices.  That and the economy meaning everyone is watching their pennies explains a lot.

In the end, this set is what it is, of course, but part of the fun of this "hobby" is the discussion.

I just saw these today at Walmart.

At $10 each, I'd briefly entertain buying the full set of 5.  (Clone cash coupons, thank you)

At $17 each, I left them all.

Who the hell made the figure selections for these sets?  Anakin looks terrible, the SBD looks terrible, the Grievous was corrected by Legacy's version last year yet they used the old 2005 version, I didn't need another EU Boba Fett, I really didn't care for any of the droids.

The 1 figure I wanted: Corran Horn.  Why?  Well, gee whiz, because it's new and I don't have it yet.

If I'm going to pay $17 each for a 2 pack, it sure as hell better be army builders I want or new figures.

But instead Hasbro just regurgitated a lot of junk into these and sold them for top dollar.  It makes no sense.

Now, I want the Darktrooper.  It's a new mold, and we'll see it again.  Probably more than once.  So I'll pick it up at that point.  I'm not spending $85 on junk to get it, and if it turns out the Darktrooper is never released, I'll  attach $85 in cash to a REAL stand and put it next to the previous version of the Darktrooper on my shelf.

Because this is insanity.

Please send this in an email directly to Hasbro.  You have basically NAILED IT with this - and yes, I signed up here right now so I could request this!  You would be doing us all a HUGE favor!  This price with desirable figures - OK, with rehashes (and bad paint - did you see Anakin???) - bleh!  Since it's 5 droids, one Corran and one DT new, it's really $12.14 per figure.  Look Hasbro, we don't like being played for suckers.
