Im looking to make a Custom green TROS A-wing out of the many extra TLJ a-wings I picked up.
Can anyone recommend a paint thinner that will work safely with modern hasbro plastic to strip of the blue paint.

Testors should work. And if it doesn’t, based on the darkness of the green you could probably just paint right over the blue without much issue.

Yeah I’d be wary of a full strip on a plastic area that large. May wanna just paint over. But assuming you’re dismantling to do this, I would try it out on the inside area of the ship dismantled first. Try some nail polish remover or acetone on a cloth rag in a small area to see how it reacts with the plastic.

Definitely use mineral spirits and not acetone if you try to remove paint. Acetone will dissolve the plastic.

Acetone doesn’t dissolve all plastics only certain ones. I’m not sure new awings aren’t a pvc type plastic which acetone tends not to damage.

Thanks Jesse....Acetone is not good on ABS (most 501st folks would tell you that), I wasn't sure what Hasbro used, so I just offered a cautious suggestion.

ABS seems to be getting mixed in less and less, but again I can’t say for sure what a TLJ AWing is made of and mine are boxed up somewhere. Always try chems on the inside somewhere inconspicuous or unimportant if you’re dismantling it. Acetone can work on abs though, you just have to be sort of cautious and not super rough with paint removal... I’ve used nail polish remover for some removal of paint or markings on abs. It can just be trickier.
I bond abs with methyl ethyl ketone and it’s super nasty. I only do it wearing a ventilation mask and stuff. It won’t touch polyvinyl though. It’s potent stuff though.

It depends on where the RV is parked and if you have the chemicals in the correct container. I don't recommend using a bathtub.

What’s saddest about all this is there probably is a meth lab almost in visual distance of my house here, on both sides. ::)

One of my Lieutenants purchased a new house and after living there for 6 months they had the clear out for a few weeks because they found meth chemical residue in the home.

drugs are everywhere anymore. My town is ok, if not severely rednecky. It could be worse. The lower end of my road is worse than up where I’m at, at least. But I am always having to confront people on my property near my shop illegally. They’re more often than not up to no good too, when I do.

I did try straight acetone on the underside of an a-wing... no good. On another note.. I wonder if acetone can be dilluted enough to be usable.
