TV-9D9 / Re: The death or disappearance of Ahsoka?
« on: October 14, 2010, 05:38 AM »
I'd like to see her go down in a rather poetic and tragic way. For example, she follows up a lead on her own late at night, and finds Dooku and Palpatine meeting down in the Courascant Underworld or something. She's shocked to discover that Palpatine is the sith lord they'd been looking for and hastily retreats to inform Anakin and the council. As she's making her way through the underbelly of the city, she realizes she's being stalked by the two Sith lords, they sensed her presence and are going to make sure she doesn't ruin their plans. After a lengthy chase, she makes it to the temple entrance way, thinking she lost them. As she runs toward the temple, Anakin senses she's in danger and quickly heads off to find her.
Just as Ashoka is nearing the temple entrance, Sidious drops in front of her from the shadows and runs her through. He quickly discards his Sith gear and bends over the mortally wounded Ashoka putting on his best concerned face, just as Anakin and a few other Jedi exit the temple. Anakin quickly rushes up and asks the Chancellor what he's doing here and what happened. Palpatine explains that he was on his way to discuss some war stuff with the council when he saw a Sith assassin drop from the shadows and stab Ashoka. Anakin cradles Ashoka in his arms as she desperately tries to get the words that Palpatine was the Sith out, but she's too weak to form the words. The whole while she stares frightfully at Palpatine who is standing behind Anakin, with a comforting hand on his shoulder. He smiles sinisterly at her and she dies. Anakin rages out and wrecks whatever is nearby. Windu is present for this display of passion and anger and it disturbs him greatly, prompting his distrust of Anakin in episode 3. Anakin once again blames himself for a loved ones death, due to his not sensing the danger soon enough or being fast enough to reach her in time, thus bringing him one step closer to wanting the power to save people from death. I imagine this scenario might traumatize the kiddies though. What's everyone think?

TV-9D9 / Re: The Clone Wars - Season Three Discussion Thread

I prefer to think of this Greedo as Greedo Sr. rather than the dude from ANH. I suppose in the big picture it isn't really that big a deal though. I thought the blue people episode was ok as well, though I couldn't help but think it was kind of suck uppish, with how invincible and brilliant they made Papanoida. I missed last weeks though I don't mind the occasional political intrigue episode, although they have demonstrated in the past that they can do these types of episodes and still maintain a certain level of action/adventure.

On another note, after watching the first two clone centric episodes this season, I must say I'd really like to see some of the final episodes of the series take place during Order 66/the purge. The clones in this show are so much more than the faceless  duplicates from the prequels, it'd be really interesting to see order 66 from their point of view. I'm sure some of them weren't that keen on the order, maybe had doubts but followed the order anyway and have to live with that, or maybe some desert. Lots of interesting places they could go with those stories.

I pulled out the ol VOTC Vader from storage the other day, and despite newer versions being superior in mostly every way, I have to say, I really like the balljointed head he's got going. I know Vader probably couldn't look up or down in the movies, but I think it adds a lot of personality to the posing. I think he might be the best non removable helmet Vader out there at the very least. Plus he can hang his lightsaber from his belt.

I know eh? Actually getting a Wal-Mart exclusive in Canada is pretty amazing, but to get it cheaper than the US? We're lucky if we get it for close to the same price and not some crazy mark up.

So those who have the defense on Hoth set, are the rebels headgear swappable? I can't really tell from the photos.

The Bullpen / Re: Marvel Universe

Quality wise, they're great. I think the complaints with the Iron Man line have to do with the case ratios and lack of villains until later waves. At least with Iron Man constant variants make sense since he does have dozens of different armors. I didn't mind this for the comic series since most of the armors are visually distinctive from one another, but with Cap, the differences aren't as large, much like the Wolverine Line. That said, some of those caps do look pretty sweet. I'm hoping there might be a few more reveals this weekend. At least give us a nice Red Skull, and I'll be happy.

Some nice looking stuff. Not terribly thrilled by the look of the Cap comic series though. It looks like a bunch of Cap variants and a Bucky. You'd thin they'd have learned from the Iron Man line that releasing 20 variants of the main character right out of the gate isn't the greatest idea ever. Shame, I was really looking forward to seeing what they'd do with the comic series. Hoped we'd get a few badies at least.

I'm not sure what they're thinking on some of these case ratios either, though I don't think it's got anything to do with not caring about collectors so much as them just trying a new approach and not really knowing what they're doing yet. It's the same across the board with all their lines too, Transformers, Marvel the works, they're all suffering from really stupid repack syndrome. I don't mind them repacking figures in cases, but does it have to be the exact same ones every single time? Repacking popular troop builders is a good idea, like the clone and Sandtrooper, but keeping those main characters constantly available in this particular line is kind of foolish if you ask me. They don't need to repack Anakin again, he's available in Saga Legends and Clone Wars for any of the kiddies  or parents who want him. Vader too is available in Saga Legends. Pack them in 2 per case there and replace his empty slot in this wave with the Magnaguard.

I'm hoping they get the hang of these case ratios and try to improve them as the line goes on.

I'm pretty pumped for these as well, I've got a bit of OT withdraw going, so it'll be nice to build up that collection again. Looking forward to the rebels set most, and will probably wait on the Imperials just cuz the only new thing in there for me is the At-St driver. As for the U-3PO, I'm thinking I'll just paint him black or green, or maybe gold in an attempt to make the Ultimate C-3PO.

I found one of these today, fantastic piece, I'm very pleased with it. I can't wait to get a couple of the new Gammy Guard to flank this thing.

Watto's Junk Yard / Fleas, Chemicals and Figures
« on: September 30, 2010, 01:23 PM »
So I recently moved into a new apartment and it turns out it's got a rather serious flea infestation. We've got an exterminator coming in the next few days to gas the little buggers, but I'm just a bit concerned about the ol collection, not sure if the gas will have any effect on them or not (kind of worried it might yellow the white guys or something) Does anyone have any experience with this? Just wondering if I should put some stuff away or if it's no big deal. Any help would be much appreciated.

The Vintage Collection / Re: TVC will fail...
« on: September 28, 2010, 09:46 PM »
I can sort of see this line tanking for a number of reasons. Wave 1 being somewhat uninteresting being one. It's a great wave, but not a great one to start with. The first waves always end up clogging the pegs because retailers order too much of the initial waves. Hasbro should always have a strong first wave full of highly sought after A listers, troop builders that people want multiples of and maybe some cool looking B listers. The problem with wave 1 is 4-Lom, not sure what they were thinking on that one. they should have gone with a Snowtrooper instead. I also find the Cloud Car pilot and Dak are pretty common, also not the most interesting of figures really. I think if they'd started off with the ROTJ lineup instead, we'd see a lot more success.

The next problem is the fairly obvious one of cross contamination between lines. Look at ROTS as a good example. here we have another Obi Wan in TVC, we've also got one in Legends and TCW. Thats 3 of the same character all hanging around at the same time. Why do they feel thats necessary. It's the same thing for Grievous, Anakin and countless others.

The third problem is that I think they're counting on carded collectors a bit too much, which is thee only logic I can see behind putting out the 3 aforementioned characters out in TVC on top of Legends. Obi Wan in the ROTS wave seems like it's just to get a prequel Obi on a vintage card.

Collect All 92! / Re: Yoda

My problem with most modern ESB Yoda's is that theres always something about the face that seems off. They always look more like prequel Yoda rather than ESB Yoda. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I thought the old POTF headsculpts got closer to accuracy than any of the newer ones. That said, i tend to use OTC Yoda as my modern counterpart, though I hope to see a really knockout ESB Yoda someday.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Realistic/Movie Style Clone Wars figures
« on: September 3, 2010, 01:01 PM »
I think the only way this would hurt the line is in the timing. For example, releasing them now, when we already have 3 different Anakins and Obi Wans on the shelves would be downright foolish. Of course that's assuming these will be singles releases. I've often thought this concept would work well in a similar vein to the Force Unleashed 5 packs.

I have no problems with this if they do it, as long as they keep it to the big guns and important characters. Like others have said, theres really no need for a realistic Captain Argyus, or anything like that, but a movie styled Ashoka or Cad Bane? I'd take that. That said though, I love the animated style too, I think the figures are pretty slick looking, but I'm not the type to mind a sub line or two that tries to be a little different. Honestly, if they go this route, i'd actually like to see them go the other way as well and maybe make an exclusive box set of the OT characters done in animated style. I think that would be a cool novelty item.
