Rumors, again: http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Rebelspy_Report_103892.asp
$60 bucks?! Unless it includes something new & awesome, pass. My bets are that'll it include the 3 creatures that were sent to kill Padme, Anakin & Obi, but 60 BUCKS! Damn.
-
Yeah, that's my guess too. Maybe some columns and Obi, Ani, and Padme. Big time pass.
-
I maybe a pass for me too. I mean I don't have the Acklay, but I can get it for under $30 dollars. I will buy the pack if it comes with the columns, Anakin, Obi, and Padme and the Picardor with the Carriage thing.
-
I kind of wonder if they may just throw in the Eopie? I know it's not Geonisis...but what the heck? They are going to have to put something attractive in there to get $60 out of people. I would guess anyway?
-
I would be very upset if they did that. Which of course means they will. ;)
-
I suppose it will be the Acklay, Reek, Nexu, and some random old stuff in a pretty box. If that's so, big pass.
-
Well it'd be nifty if we got an orray and a geonosian to ride atop with those butt zapper pole thingies. Some nice tall columns.
Without anything new, this is actually $10 more than we paid for the Reek, Acklay, and Nexu the first time around.
If I remember correctly, the Acklay was kinda hard to find for some people. I think I only saw it once myself. Maybe twice.
I need more information before I praise or condemn this set.
-
Yeah, original retail for the three creatures was $50, so $60 isn't quite as exorbitant as it sounds at first. (Of course, secondary market value is entirely different....)
And I imagine they will throw in a column and some random odds and ends. Perhaps a Geo warrior or Arena Padme.
-
I swear, if they put an all-new Orray in there, I'm gonna give up Star Wars!!
-
Count me in the crew that, if it were plenty of new stuff mixed with an Ackley I'd consider it... Without pics this is the kind of thing that's all speculation though unlike the ships... You know what you'll probably get there. Here though they have some options.
I really REALLY hope the Eopie isn't in this though... I want a straight re-release of that entire set in a battlepack more than getting it slipped in with some other beasts, just cuz they can. That'd bite the big one.
And given what you can find the 3 beasties from the arena selling for at a toy show... Well, if it's just them and some random other arena junk, this is an easy pass but could really appeal to kids... well, the stuff, not the price.
-
It's stuff like this that could put me on the edge. It's gonna have to be better than decent for me to want to get one.
-
I might be the only one who actually buys this as I never bought the creatures when they were first released.
I want the new Y-Wing too.
-
I never once saw an Acklay at retail during the AOTC days (like many, I think), but honestly at this point I don't know if I care anymore. As display space is quickly narrowing, I'm starting to lean more towards OT-only with vehicles and beasts (with some exceptions), so I doubt I would pick this up if this rumor is true. I'm guessing on a 3 pack of the three beasties (Reek, Acklay, Nexu), and who knows if they will throw something else in there. You would think they would have to for that pricepoint. I think the Reek and Nexu were priced around $10 (and were clearanced in many places), and the Acklay was what, $15 or $20? Something doesn't quite add up, but you never know with exclusive stuff. Either way, a likely pass for me on these.
-
it really all depends on what is included
-
:o :o :o :o >:( 60 bucks!!! it better be very cool! or TRU is going to have a lot of marked down items if they don't sell. :P
-
wait for it to go on clearance then buy 8)
-
Betcha they toss in that sonic canon to sweeten the deal and drive us insane.
-

My mistake--I just checked 'Scum, and the Acklay and Reek were both $15, not $20 as I had thought. And I was right that the Nexu was $10.
So that makes original retail only $40, which makes it a $20 increase. Previous TRU packs haven't been marked up that badly, so I can only surmise that it will include some repack figures and the sonic cannon or something.
-
Maybe this is Hasbro's master plan to trick us. This is there version of a "playset". They know no one is going to buy it, but they can now say they tried. :P
-

I think we all know that this strategy hardly ever works. You can't count on getting clearance, it just happens sometimes.

And even less so at TRU.

That's the same markup as the Gunship...50%.

well you never know. i did end up getting all my vintage figures at tru on clearance, and the X-wing has been on clearance for a bit too. it will all be luck. although if this BP ends up lookings pretty cool ill probably pay full for it.

Star Wars Battle of Geonosis Creatures (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2659743) - $59.99
"As the galaxy hurtles toward war, Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are captured on the planet Geonosis and sentenced to death. Poggle the Lesser, Archduke of Geonosis, accuses the trio of being spies and has them chained to stone pillars in the Geonosian arena. The three friends watch helplessly as bloodthirsty beasts are unleashed into the arena to kill them. At the last minute, they are saved from death by the arrival of Jedi Knights. A brutal battle erupts as more Republic and Separatist reinforcements arrive, ending all hope of a peaceful end to the conflict."
-
So, creatures and figures. Just as long as they're all repacks.
-
I would like:
2x TSC Sun Fac (repaints, of course)
Reek
Nexu
Acklay
2x Orray
2x Massifs
2x Sonic Cannons
I would buy that. But, it'll probably just be reek, nexu, acklay, and MAYBE a massif or two.
-
From the sound of the description, this sounds like all repacks which = a pass for me. Good thing becuase i am broke anyway.
-
It will definatly be the 3 creatures but I would bet the Orray with Geo cart is in there. Even Hasbro knows we need a reason to drop that much. They have not really been too friendly with the exclusive notifications as of late. We all just found out about the Bantha variation.
If something is new in there I am buying and selling off my old creatures on ebay or on the forums. Everyone said the same thing about he ATAT and they flew off the shelves, face it we are all suckers for this stuff deep down they have us hooked and they know it. Its like crack, we need our fix.

Wow, jackoftradeze, that was a very scary post. Scary, but true! :-X :o
-
If there were some Sun Fac repaints mixed in, I'd be more interested for sure... An Orray would be great... $60's a TON of cash for the 3 existing beasts and little else though. This could be really interesting though so I'm sorta curious now whereas I was easily passing on this about a month ago.
Dunno what I'd do with the 3 beasts I have now though. Maybe give them away to someone since I'd surely have no use for them.
-
I'm just hoping it comes in some form of a window box as I was really expecting the Endor AT-AT to come in. I think it would look fantastic with the arena back drop and a few of those spires with the beasts on prowl. I'm sure I'll buy it regardless of the box - or the pack ins for that matter.
-
Hmmmm. Window box with three new/taller poles to lock Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme to.
-
Don't hold your breath! It's Hasbro we're talkin about here :-X
-

What We Will Get

-
God, I hope you're right. I've been wanting to pick up a loose Duros off of ebay for a while now but couldn't find the extra $2.34.
-
Well, based on the "back of the box" description, I fear it will be some combination of the following:
-Saga 2002 Acklay
-Saga 2002 Reek (with no electronics)
-Saga 2002 Nexu (with no electronics)
-Three Pillars from Geonosis Arena Playset
-2002 Saga Arena Padme
-2003 Saga Secret Ceremony Anakin with new arm
-2003 Saga Poggle the Lesser
-2003 Saga Obi-Wan Kenobi (Acklay Battle)
-2005 ROTS Mace Windu (just because he's packed with everything nowadays)
Bring on the suck! :P
-
It's always nice to see how low expectations can be. ;D
Seriously, I think there should be *SOMETHING* new in this set as we typically get something decent out of a Toys R Us exclusive. I'm not sure what it's going to be in this instance, but the three Arena beasts are a given.
-
I may re-decide my decison to Pass if it's something like this:
Acklay (Saga re-paint or re-pack)
Reek (Sags re-paint or re-pack)
Nexu (Sga re-pack or re-paint)
Padme Amidala (Saga '02 Arena Escape re-pack, Best Arena Padme Out There :-\)
Anakin Skywalker (Evo re-hash w/ New Head)
Obi-Wan Kenobi (ROTS Pilot re-hash w/ New Head)
The Poles The Three Were Tied To
Battle Droid (POTJ re-paint)
-
There were actually four poles in the arena:
(Although somehow there were five poles, after Natalie's midriff was exposed during her fight with the nexu. (http://images.dvdtalk.com/images/smilies/naughty.gif) )
-
Oh yeah, R4 was going to be tied to one. That would of been funny.
-
All signs point to me passing on this, unless it comes with something like this -
(http://es.starwars.wikia.com/images/thumb/f/f4/Orray.jpg/250px-Orray.jpg)
Or a new, meaner looking Reek.

:P
-

Five if you count Anakin's Jedi "Pole" :-*
Nevermind that joke had been done... too eager I guess. :-[
:P
-
I'm probably going to get this set, as the Battle of Geonosis and Arena Battle scenes were some of my favorites from the entire saga.
I do hope that the three Arena beasts are included (Nexu, Reek, and Acklay), but this already seems very likely. I wouldn't mind seeing the Reek and Nexu being new with no electronics and articulation in the legs, but I'm not going to hold my breath. In addition to the beasts, I'd be happy with Padme, Obi-Wan, and Anakin with three pillars or 3-5 Sun Facs repainted as Geonosian Warriors. One last item the would be cool to see is the sonic cannon that was supposed to come with the Arena Playset back in 2002.
Overall, I'm kind of hopeful about this set and I am also very curious as to how it will look in its package.

No big deal--I didn't do a very good job of pulling it out, anyway.
-
I figured we would've seen pics of this by now.
-
When's it supposed to come out? Hasvro seems to be keeping everything not shown by now secret for CIV.

My guess is that whatever they have left, like exclusives and Hermi Odle, will be split up between CIV as you mentioned but also SDCC. They will save some stuff for then.

Any mention of what this is supposed to be?
-
Not one iota so far evenflow... If I'm talking to the gang they may try hounding Hasbro about it if I remember to ask.
-
Y'know, I've always felt bad for Paul Ruebens. I mean, what esle do you do in that kind of theater? It's like going to baseball game and getting arrested for drinking a beer. ;)
-
Looks like the 4-inches gang are at it again...
Arena Encounter Battle Pack (http://www.4-inches.de/inhalt/news.htm)
Yay! Another box of repacks that I can skip! :)
-
That's disappointing. I was hoping that maybe we would get a better version of Anakin or Padme at the very least. The Obi-Wan looks good, but might as well be a statue.
-
I literally LOLed when I saw that pic. I'd get it for the beasts since I never picked those up in 2002 but the price is too much. This should keep the shelves warm next to the Banthas and Dagobah X-Wings.
-
At this point, anything I don't want in packs like this seems to be a welcome sight (at times anyway). It's been an expensive year for sure, so this isn't something I'm weeping over how badly it sucks.
-
so this isn't something I'm weeping over how badly it sucks.
And lord knows you carry on and on when something sucks! ::) :P
Kevin
-
Only when it sucks and it's not got much of an alternative. This... Well the alternative was bought the first time around.
-
Yeah, the pack doesn't look impressive in the pictures. May be it'll look better in person. I think I may be passing on this one.
-
The basic figures I'm not too keen on, but I don't have any of the beasts and wouldn't mind scoring those. If it's not too expensive then maybe.
-
I just don't want that, not even for my one of everything collection.
-
i kept telling myself id get this pack for the creatures...but now that i have seen it, im going to pass. it will probably be more than the bantha set too.
-
it will probably be more than the bantha set too.
More than $60.
-
Big pass for me, thankfully nothing new in there.
-
The Acklay is something I never did see during the AOTC run, but now I don't know how badly I want it. Certainly not badly enough to pick up this entire set. Nice for those who missed all the beasties though, or maybe for kiddos who really like AOTC.
-
Well, its good to see the beasts re-released, but I have them all, so I definitely wont be buying this set. The Padme and Anakin repacks are just sad. I missed that Obi sculpt the first time around but it doesnt look like its worth over sixty dollars.
The packaging looks nice, though, at least it'll look good warming the TRU shelves alongside the bantha. :-\
-
Big pass! Even the repacked figures blow! They picked the worst figures in Hasbro's run to include here! I was hoping for the Lizard thing with Geonosian Warrior cart and some cool repaints. I will not be within 10ft of this one. I am not sure if this one will have legs. The Bantha did OK but did not fly off the shelves like the Gunship, AT-AT and X-wing. this one may be a loser. I cannot see that many moms dropping $60 for this set. The majority of collectors will most likely pass since there are no new offerings. this would have been perfect for kit-bashed Jedi and RED Battle droid army building.
the Ball has been officially dropped!
-
I might pick it up, only for the beasts. The figures suck, they atleast could of re-packed the Evolutions Anakin.
-
I really want the three beasts in this set, but the price is not the nicest for the three beasts and three partial repacks. Had the Geonosian and columns from the original Anakin, Padme, and Obi Wan been included in this set, I would've happily paid the $60. Now, I'll wait until I see the set in person and then make my decision.
-
A definite pass for me, thought it is great for those that never got the beasts the first time around I guess. Is that another repack of the Clone Wars Obi-Wan and "slice and dice" Anakin? Hard to see in that pic. Wouldn't the Obi-Wan with spear have made more sense? Not that it was a great figure but at least it is scene specific.
-

I see a spear...
-
Billy Ray;
The Obi-Wan in question appears to be the April 23rd basic release from the 2002 line (the one with the Assassin Droid and the metal hand), to me at least.
To the Floor;
I find myself suprisingly fond of this set, as it is really something which should have long ago been released. I sincerely doubt that I'll pick it up, but the concept is sound. Too bad the figures are so terrible.
-

Look closer... it's the Acklay Battle (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/0301.html) version
(http://www.yakface.com/jayson/arenaobk.jpg)
-
All I see is crap. I would have been all over this set back in 02. Hasbro is really going out of their way to nix me from my OCD.
-
Jedijaybird is correct, I do hereby retract my previous statement. :-*
-
I kind of like the Acklay Battle Obi-Wan...I might want only him. 8)
-
I might get this if the price is not too high. I'm only interested in the creatures. The figures are sad ::). I wish Hasbro would wise up and stop repacking these sorry figures into the battle packs. There are so many better choices than what they come up with.
The saddest thing is that Hasbro doesn't loose anything from this type of crap. They get their money for the stuff, it's the retailer that looses out. And I can say if this is a high price point they will be collecting dust on the shelves. I always wonder who the biggest moron is, the one that comes up with these sets or the one that agrees to have them exclusive ::)?

Ah, so it is. Guess my eyes aren't what they used to be. I was mistaking the belt for that bandolier thingy on the CW Obi-Wan and didn't even see the spear. Still a pass for me...and what about that Anakin? Is it "slice and dice" Ani?
-

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Obviously the 'exclusive' formula works, otherwise why would we see so many of them?

Yeah but usually they sit on the shelf collecting dust, unless they're at Target which will quickly be put on clearance.

Only works for certain exclusives. Plus I am quick to judge as everyone and there bother is trying to get a cut of Star Wars profit without thinking if it will even sell. You see it in many of these new exclusives coming, which has a big number of members saying they are going to pass on them. Also I agree with what jedipurge said:
Yeah but usually they sit on the shelf collecting dust, unless they're at Target which will quickly be put on clearance.
If you count all of the exclusives you will find a small number of success ratio to the ones that flop. Plus I really only count the success of an exclusive if you can still sell it for what you paid for it or then some after the fact. Only a very small number fit into that. It seems like after Saga line during AOTC all exclusives started going down hill. POTF2 and most of POTJ are the best IMO as Hasbro didn't have anything better to repack or they were new.

-
To each his own I guess.
Around my parts, exclusives do very well and I can only recall a handful of flops in contrast to your recollection of a handful of successes.
Undoubtedly, the exclusive formula is working - you must presume both parties are satisfied with sales otherwise they would cease to develop new skus.
-
I agree with Ruiner, the exclusives are in large part a success and that's due to the "target" consumer, children. These multipacks are the ones that are scooped up by parents and and grandparents as birthday and Christmas gifts. Mark my words, these will all be gone come the holidays.
-
I don't know about exclusives always doing well. I know of two TRU's that both have about 35-40 Bantha packs, and 10-15 Dagobah X-wings.
