Well, the post-season awards are underway, and I'm quite pleased that the Giants' Tim Lincecum won the NL Cy Young award. In the midst of a dismal season, he was definitely a very bright spot.

I'm perfectly aware how early it is in the season, but I'm getting more and more excited every time I watch the Sharks play. Last week, I was utterly shocked at how they quieted the Pens (limiting them to only 11 shots...for the entire game), then a few days later clearly dominated the Wings. And last night, after a couple periods of even skating, just took control in the third and bounced the Wild. All three teams are quality, and the way the Sharks have played them has just impressed the hell out of me. They're skating fast, creating shots out of thin air, suffocating opponents and dropping the gloves when needed...all things they really haven't done in years past.

The only thing that tempers my optimism is that it's so damn early in the season.

I've already got tickets for the 12/2 game vs. the Leafs, but I really need to go sooner and more often.

Go Sharks!

I've got the same big hopes for the Sharks this year. All things point to them having all the right pieces...finally, but only time will tell. They sure looked good last night thoroughly dismantling the Ducks. Good to see Cheechoo start out strong, and Nabokov, well, he should've won the Vezina last year, and he looked like he wanted to make a point.

Go Sharks!

Rise Against - The Sufferer & the Witness

Just a fun CD to listen to. Every song (just about) has energy. There's a slow crap song near the end, but I always just skip it.

I'm not sure the genre, but they sometimes remind me of Bad Religion and All. However, I think if you're from SoCal and compare anyone to BR, it's like sacreligious and junk (but I'm NorCal, so as long as I don't compare them to Green Day).

Okay, pretty much got it all figured out.

A friend from church can get discount 2-day parkhopper tickets for us for $89.60 each for the kids and $105.60 each for the adults. I'm happy with those prices.

We're staying right across the street, so parking isn't necessary. It's literally at the crosswalk that goes to the parks.

Yeah, Ariel's Grotto seems like a really good idea. A buddy at work has girls the same age as mine and couldn't stop raving about the princesses at that place. He said his girls liked them, too.  ;)

I'm officially excited.  :)

They are doing a huge rebuild of It's a Small World but it won't open until mid November. The biggest thing they are doing is swaping out the water way for something deeper. The floom and boats were originally built back in 1964 for the New York World's Fair. Unfortunately, people have gained alot of weight since then and the boats have been getting stuck because of the additional pounds.

Since you have small kids, you probably won't be able to get on some of the bigger rides such as Space Mountain. Disney does however, have a Parent swap system. At the enterance to the ride, ask the cast member for a child swap pass. Then you wait in line while you wife waits at the exit of the ride. Once you come off the ride, they will let your wife ride without having to get back in line again.

Another thing to use is the FassPass system. You get a free ticket with a time stamp on it. You can then return anytime after the time on the card. Remember you don't have to use it within the timeframe given, you just can't use it earlier than your scheduled time.

That's a bummer about It's a Small World. That would've been fun.

As far as big-kid rides, we're probably not doing any of them, since my wife has zero interest and I'm pretty sure I'd just get a menacing stare from her if I suggested she watch the kids while I ride.

I've read about the FastPass. Sounds like a definite, but I've also heard that for the little-kid rides, FastPass is either not offered or not even necessary. Either way, we'll find out what floats the kids' boats.

We went to Disney a couple of years ago when the kids were 3 and 5, and we had them both carry a little card withour cells on them.  They were told that if they got lost, to find an adult with a nametag and give them the card.

That's a great idea, too. I can totally see my 4-year old "lose herself" just so she can go up to someone with a nametag and say, "I'm lost. Here's my card. Have your people call my people."  :P

I hope the good weather lasts, too.

That's a good idea (though scary) about the cell phone number.

Thanks!

Awesome info, thanks!

Yeah, that "don't check IDs" thing was suspect at best.

Is there going to be a surge of visitors when the annual passholders are allowed in on the 18th? We're actually scheduling to arrive on the 18th. Ugh.

Great suggestion about waiting until the next day. I think we're all going to be cranky after the drive (with the wife being the worst offender  ;)).

Thanks! Yeah, we definitely want to hit Disney California, since we've heard there are some good kiddie rides there. I think the only way to go is to get the flexpass/park hopper pass that'll give us access to both parks.

Neither of our offices offer the discounted tickets. We think maybe my mother-in-law can get us some discount tickets through her work (Sun Microsystems), but I'm not sure how much the discount, if any, is.

Yeah, this thread hasn't been posted to in almost three years, but it beats the heck out of starting a new, almost identical one!

Anyway, my family is going to Disneyland in about three weeks. It'll be the first time for the girls (ages 4 and 3) and it's been years since either my wife or I have gone. For the Disneyland officianados, anything we should definitely know/do? Also, we'll be driving down from the Bay Area, so we'll probably arrive in the late afternoon. This'll give us possibly enough time to hit the parks that evening for a bit. In addition we'll be staying two more full days. Should we get 2-day or 3-day park hopper passes? Also, I see tickets on eBay that are deeply discounted, but most are stated that they're for SoCal residents only (though the sellers always state, "They don't check your ID!"). Any tricks to getting discounted tickets?

Let the ideas/suggestions flow!

Probably Sideshow or something. That stormie is spot on!

I wasn't expecting much from the Golden Compass, but it was quite entertaining. I didn't like how it abruptly ended, but other than that, very enjoyable. I'll be looking forward to all the sequels.

If you read the books, you'd find out that the Golden Compass ends with Lord Asriel killing Roger and Lyra walking into the city. Not a very happy ending. I guess we will never see that since it doesn't look very likely we will be seeing the Subtle Knife. Too bad too since that is a better story.

Hey! You're not supposed to give away details yet!  >:( ;)

Regardless, I enjoyed the Golden Compass and would probably enjoy any other movies, even if they're less than warm and fuzzy.

One thing that did sort of bother me was that the movie started out being more innocent (for lack of a better word) and aimed toward children, but then turned much darker and had many elements (unnecessary elements, I believe) that aren't appropriate for the younger folk. As I was watching, I was thinking how my daughters would enjoy it (especially with Lyra being a very strong, intelligent girl), but then people started being killed, the bear was a heavy drinker, children were being abuse, etc. and, well, I realized it wasn't a kids (at least little kids) movie afterall. It's hard to find a good movie for kids that isn't dumbed down or animated. Yeah, I've gotten off a tangent...

Just viewed my Netflix for the weekend; The Kite Runner and The Golden Compass. I can't say enough good things about the The Kite Runner. It was just an awesome film, and I definitely recommend it to everyone.
