Check back, they added more stuff, including the Misfits figure, figure case and PotA playset. They weren't there earlier.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Jurassic Park Toys

I've never seen the flatbed truck either. I think the shelf tag at Target called it the Lights & Sounds Vehicle. They had the tag, but never got the truck. Or, if they did, they only got a couple and it was gone without me ever seeing it.

Apparently there's also a sub that I've never seen and didn't know about until I saw a review for it on YouTube a week or so ago. I guess there's a second wave of JW figs but all my Target has are Owen figs left. And I don't think Walmart had any of the human figs, just dinos. Mayb...Walmart is mostly worthless but they did get a cardboard end cap display of the battle damaged dinos and some of the larger dino figs. That's where I ended up getting a Blue. The deco on the bd figs was better than the others.

Not sure if it's the same playset but I've seen pics of one that comes with orange slime to look like lava flowing in. I haven't seen that in stores yet and don't know when/where it might pop up.

I was in TRU on Sunday and the JW toys were 50% off. They didn't have any dinosaurs left but they had the Gyrosphere Blast Vehicle for $15 and several of the Owen figs for $4. I picked up the truck and Owen w/ Blue.

When the truck was first shown at Toy Fair I thought it had an interior and I was going to pick one up for my Joe figs. I was disappointed when I found out what it actually does but for 50% off, picked it up. It's actually a really decent toy. The action feature works pretty well, the gyrosphere works and Owen fits in. Pretty happy with it.

Now I need one of the non-action feature Blue figs to go in the back.

My Target blew through most of the first stock they got for launch. Some, like bigger dinosaurs and the Jeep have come back but they're still missing most of the $8-ish figures and small dino packs. I'm interested to see what happens after the movie opens.

Joe Defender / Re: The Future of G.I. Joe?
« on: May 19, 2018, 12:32 AM »
After reading and replying to a couple other threads you started, Brian, the bigger question may be what's the future for toys in general.

Even with new movies there's not a lot that's really all that new or exciting in the Star Wars lines. There are some good toys, the TLJ A-Wing, TFA Rey's speeder, even Kylo's TIE Silencer, all were well done toys. The 5POA figures have been kind of boring in character selection, but they're solid toys. But even I'm not getting overly excited by what's coming out.

I've thought for a while now, and it's a popular thought with the 12" collectors, that if Hasbro really wanted to get back into Joe and not just around movies, the Adventure Team would be the way in. Done right it could cover a lot of bases that other somewhat popular toy lines are doing like Jurassic World, superheroes, robots, special agents, etc.

It goes back to your thread about popularity of toys with kids though. GI Joe is a toy and play pattern that doesn't seem to hold as much attraction anymore. SW and the Marvel stuff gets a boost from consistent new movies but if kids don't want to put the imagination into playing, a line like Joe doesn't have legs right now.

That being said, I'm going to the last Joe Con this year, the Club's final couple of Figure Subscription Service releases have had some solid characters in them, and they've been the only outlet for new, licensed 12" Joe figures. I'm sad to see the Club go.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Are Toys Still Fun?
« on: May 19, 2018, 12:19 AM »
Man, I don't know. That's a tough question.

I don't know exactly what the draw was with toys when I was a kid, obviously Star Wars was fun because I loved the movies, but GI Joe or the Fisher Price Adventure People? They were just fun to play with, I had friends that also played with them, and we'd just go outside and set them up and play.

I walk through the toy aisles now and look at what's available and I see some toys that still look like fun. The Jurassic Park toys that Mattel just released? I'd have been all over those as a kid. Some of the Star Wars stuff still looks like fun, especially some of the $30 and under vehicles. I even like the looks of many of the 5POA figures and I think they may be better toys than some of the more articulated stuff. If I was headed outside to play, I'd rather those than a TVC Luke w/ soft goods for example.

For me, Lego is probably the overall best toy available right now because of the sets that are available and just the fact it's Lego and you can build whatever you want. The 6" SW and the various superhero lines for Marvel and DC? It may be because I'm an adult, but I don't see "toy" when I look at those and with a $20 price tag it just seems too expensive to play with. You can get a JW Jeep, Owen figure and dinosaur for under $30 and that's a play pattern.

I also don't see "toy" when I look at all the Roblox and Five Night's at Freddy's stuff, or a lot of the Minecraft stuff (other than the Lego sets which are kinda cool). And certainly not with the Funko stuff out there.

NERF. That's a toy that if I were still a kid I'd be playing with. But man, a lot of stuff in the toy aisle just doesn't seem like a "toy" anymore and that may have something to do with it. It's all kitschy stuff or treated like a collectible. Even with the pull of video games and things like that, kids today should be playing with toys because they're being raised by our generation, the ones that grew up with all the amazing toys in the 70's and 80's. Seems like we goofed somewhere and didn't pass that down or something.

Other Toy Lines / Re: Your First Action Figure (Any Line)

I'm a little fuzzy on when exactly some of the toys were released, so I may have had them around the same time but sort of in order:

Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman: I had both Steve and Jamie. I had the extra legs set for Steve and his Bionic Transport and Repair Station. I think there was also a backpack with a real radio in it.

Fisher Price Adventure People: I had several sets including things like the Rescue Truck, Safari, Wilderness Patrol, and the Cycle Racing Team. There were more, I had quite a few of them and they were great toys.

Mego Superheroes: I know I had Spider-Man and Superman. I thought I remembered having the Batmobile but I think it must have been a friend's or one of those false memories.

Star Wars: Luke, R2-D2 and C-3PO with a Landspeeder. I got them as a gift from my mom but I don't know if it was a birthday or something else. I got the rest of the original 12 from my sister and I thought that was an Easter gift but that would have been before my birthday so memory is a little fuzzy on that.

G.I. Joe: That was Flash and the FLAK and I think I bought that with my own money. I had a couple other 82 straight arm figures like Short-Fuze and a COBRA Soldier but missed on most of them until the swivel arm releases.

I backed the Mighty Steeds Kickstarter. I backed at the Canter level and will be adding at least one more horse, if not two, later.

They changed things a couple times and overall, it seemed more complicated to pick a level for this than on the other Kickstarters I've backed. I haven't backed any of the other BF Kickstarters and I didn't look back at them to know if this is a thing with them. But I've backed two Marauder's offerings and never had a problem reading and figuring out the levels that fit what I wanted.

I was also disappointed that they added a horse, Goldie, part way into the campaign but didn't move up the elk or the Centaurs, which didn't unlock. Not knowing the behind-the-scenes workings on getting this line manufactured, and how it needed to be funded, it just seemed like they could have spread the creatures around more for a better chance at unlocking more varied things than just a couple standard horse repaints and tack and accessories that kind of don't go with the figures they've sold. The Australian modern tack and Western accessories were out of place. I'd have preferred an Elven tack kit and accessories. I get the Roman soldier stuff, it works, but man, all those unlocked accessories? Hoo...would I have liked those.

The only thing I really wanted out of that was the elk and unless they pull some serious shell game on the Backerkit and figure out a way to include that, or the Centaurs, the whole thing was kind of a disappointment for me. I will say that I'm pretty impressed with the Pegasus/Dark Pegasus sets and I will be getting those, but the what ifs on this one make me sad.

I think Chicago is a great location in general.  Easy for a lot of NA to make it there one way or another.

Unfortunately it's not looking good for me going after a reality check from the gf last night that we'll still be in recoup mode from her son's wedding this Fall, so yeah, probably a no-go for me.  Which utterly sucks.

F that! You be standing by the mailbox when I come by because I'm only slowing down for the pickup, not stopping.

Yeah, he was in a TRU exclusive 3-pack with Torpedo and Deep Six called GI Joe Sea Command. I don't think they were that hard to find at the time. Quick eBay search shows carded sets from mid $20 up to $50-ish with loose being less. Probably should be able to get a set, or Cutter loose, for a decent price if you wait it out on eBay.

Jesse, I may have said something on Twitter about this but if not, well done on the review. The pics are fine and you did a great job of covering all the ways the set can be put together. It's an interesting design and pretty easily used for a lot of different properties.

« on: February 9, 2018, 10:45 AM »
The Power of the Primes stuff just started showing up at my Target in the last week or so. There are a few figures that look pretty good, including Optimus, but I haven't bought any Transformers stuff in a while. Well, scratch that, I did pick up a couple figures from the Transformer Club's going out of business sale. But nothing from retail.

My Big Lots had a lot less of the PTE stuff this year. They didn't really add much for the holiday season in general for toys though. But, what they did have was pretty much a repeat of previous years. They did have the large, tan building which they don't have every year. I'm not sure if they've ever stocked the bridge set but they had some of the jeeps and small sets, like horse and camel. I don't think they had any helicopters or large APC type vehicles this year (but have in the past).

Those sets linked above do look like they have some good stuff in them. The gate is probably the standout. Put that up with some of the towers and you have the makings for a pretty good dio for a decent price.

I saw some of the 1:6 GI Joe collectors posting about that ape set. They were also pretty happy with the large Kong figure, especially now that it's getting blown out for as low as $10 in some stores.

I didn't buy any of the Kong sets but the jeep and boat looked pretty good.
