Other Collectibles / Re: New Attakus Statues!
« on: August 31, 2009, 11:41 PM »
I've been watching auctions for these for years on eBay, amazed at the prices these have commanded. Over the last six months or so, though, I noticed a tremendous drop in the winning bids. I initially figured it was the freakshow economy we have recently had. However, I did some more snooping, and many people are saying that the Attakus Star Wars line is dead, i.e. they will no longer be producing new statues. They have announced an 11/09 date for the Probe Droid, but many are saying that is it. Either way, I'm planning on taking advantage of this to add more fine porcelin to my collection to be sure.

That would be simple explanation, although I completed my auction some five minutes prior to bigj22. Now, I didn't actually pay for the item before I received the notice of cancellation, and maybe bigj22 did. I realize this is silly, and I will stop wasting everyone's time on this insignificance, but I'd like to hear from bigj22.

I realized there isn't a thread for this topic and had to fix the problem. I currently only have a Padme, but wanted to hear what the community has to say!

I was the jerk who swapped up the other loose Jorg Sacul. However, to my chagrin, I received an eBay message from honorius shortly thereafter that he made a mistake in the listing, and that he didn't have that item available. Needless to say, I'm a little miffed. I've purchased several items from him before without any problems...I wonder what happened?

Kubricks / Re: Kubrick Newbies - Questions and Advice

Along the same lines, I've got a question for y'all: Does anyone have any idea how many Star Wars Kubricks are manufactured? For example, how many Series 1 Boba Fett's are there out there? Hundreds? Thousands? Millions??? How about the chases? I realize some are 1:48, 1:96, etc., but what exactly does that mean? In trying to figure a fair value for something, overall appeal, desirablility, and scarcity are right up there in importance. Is it really outrageous to pay, say $200 for a 2003 BAPE carded Boba Fett when only 150 or so exist? I personally am much more comfortable in my investment doing that than paying $200+ for a Series 10 1:96 Tion Medon chase of which there may be ten thousand (for all I know) floating around out there. I am a completist myself and certainly understand the desire to just 'get them all' by any means necessary. But at some point, I believe value and scarcity have to come into the picture. Any thoughts?

I am an investment collector myself. By that I mean I thoroughly enjoy all of the Star Wars memoralbilia I purchase and only collect those things that appeal to me personally. I also open and display favorites, including Kubricks and the animated Clone Wars stuff. However, when it comes to really expensive items, including some of the Kubrick boxed sets and carded figures, I just can't bring myself to open them. From a pure toy collector mentality, packaging completeness and condition is almost as important as the toy itself. I strongly believe that in the long run (say decades from now) those Kubricks that are still at home in their original packaging will be worth substantially more than those that are not. This is especially true if the packaging still has the factory seals intact. I currently limit my 'opening' to basic sets. I only display chases, carded, and boxed set Kubricks if I have been able to obtain them already opened or loose. Oscar has some great acrylic cases available that are perfect for display of the carded Kubs also. Just one opinion...

Just received some acrylic cases for the carded Kubs from Oscar's Cases...I am exceptionally satisfied with the quality and craftsmanship of these. Just wanted to give 'props' to my man Oscar.

Is this emperor maquette an OTC maquette or a Clone Wars maquette? I thought Mace was the last Clone Wars one to be made, but this item could fit under either designation (although I'm not sure whether Sidious was ever shown in a non-holographic form in the Clone Wars series).
