As noted on our front page earlier this weekend, there is apparantly a "Rancor w/Rider" being listed in Target's computer system according to our sources. The DPCI is 087-06-1479 if you're curious and want to check this out yourself when you're at Target.
Interesting stuff... Scum reported the same thing, and is saying it's indeed from Force Unleashed and "part of several tie-in items" to the game's release.
I'm curious if we'll be getting an all-new Rancor sculpt though, as the beasts dont' all wear earrings or bracelets I assume. :) The ones in the game seem fairly wild by the concept art for them.
Very interesting stuff to me, since I'm really geeked about this game, and now the possibility of very large beast/vehicle possibilities with a Rancor type item. That's pretty cool I think. How this'll all tie in with 2008's already busy schedule though, who knows!
-
It would be great if it was an all new sculpt. It would give me more reason to buy it. I am excited to see pics of this one.
-
I'm curious if we'll be getting an all-new Rancor sculpt though,
Not me. It'll be a rehash of existing tooling (Rancor) with a newly tooled figure / accessories.
-
Yeah, I'm assuming at the very least the Rancor will have the same body.
I can see them maybe springing for a new Rancor Head sculpt, but definitely not a whole new Rancor. :-\
-
It will be interesting to see what this ends up being, but the Force Unleashed thinking is probably right. I've always thought that the ROTJ Rancor itself could handle a re-release (maybe with some paint updates or packed with the TAC Jedi Luke or something). Its nice that the Bantha got a re-release this year (although not quite as nice as the POTF one), but I'd really like to see some of the other beasts (OT in particular) get out there again (Taun Taun, Dewback, Rancor, etc.) I think kids would enjoy them, and many have been out of regular circulation for awhile that some collectors might have missed them as well.
-
I hope this gets a resculpt to build off of. The old sculpt is a bit dated and has that POTF2 buff look and is lacking alot of detail and cannot stand for sh@t. Imagine with more weight on it I think it will be new for heavens sake they tooled new lightsabers for this line. With a couple of part swaps they can actually assort this to have 2 different Rancors one classic and one with the horns. The old paint job always reminded me of a grilled steak or burger.
Rancor patties anyone? Thats alot of beef!

It's not a bad sculpt, the paint just sucks.
You know how these guys work.
They'll throw in a new figure just to get us to buy it.
-
Add tusks and horns to the head, plus the torso armor and we've got a "new" Rancor. The rest of the toy can be the same. Maybe a new paint wash on it too.
-
My original thought was a new head sculpt would be good enough but isnt the head and body all one piece on the sculpt they have?
-
I was just gonna say that evenflow...
To really alter it at all, you'd either have to only alter arms/legs, or alter the entire body/head as there's no separation there. Which sucks, because as I noted there's some "distinguishing" characteristics on the Rancor that set him apart from just any old Rancor you see on the streets these days. The earring and lovely matching bracelets obviously. ;)
I'm hopeful of a new sculpt, but I'm also realistic in not expecting it either.
Either way I'm excited at the prospect of this item being something unique and new. A definite new/better way to get us a Rancor rather than just the same ole same ole.
And wow does that paintjob look like the comparison images you showed JACK. I'm hungry for Rancor filets.
-
How awesome would it be if it were a new sculpt! I do agree though that there will be some reused parts from the POTF2 version.
I guess they could remove the wrist bind, and I'd like to see the ear ring piece go as well... maybe they can tweak the teeth some to look more menacing like in the picture with Shaak Ti.... that one in the front appears to have all kinds of additional horns too. Would be great to see a new sculpt, but I'm certainly not expecting it... but it could happen.
-
The POTF2 Rancor was a roto molded one and the tools on that kind of toy is a lot cheaper to make than a hard plastic ones. I am confident it will be a new sculpt with better articulation, the old one has too many flaws. I would love to see it hold a figure in his hand & be able to swallow a figure, and most importantly stand up like the old one. If this thing is new they know they will sell a lot more.
And wow does that paintjob look like the comparison images you showed JACK. I'm hungry for Rancor filets.
Jess, after posting those pics I had to go get grilled food at lunch. It made me hungry too.

I have the original from ROTJ. will make a great addition to Jabbas place.

I'm just glad it's not a TRU exclusive. :P

SPOILERS for the Force Unleashed Minis and game (but you can at least see what the Rancor toy may look like)
Okay, you want to know what the Rancor will look like?
Here's a shot from the Force Unleashed Miniatures poster:

Cool to see another Tie Crawler in another line other than LEGO....I'm so hoping this gets made by Hasbro...Oh - that Rancor looks okayish - just not diggin the bright stripes.

Thanks! The first time I clicked, Geocities said the page had exceeded its bandwidth quota.
The critter looks alright, I guess, but the fluorescent stripes seem garish.
EDIT: Really nice pix of some new vehicles/droids from TFU. (http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/star-wars-the-force-unleashed/825504p1.html)

Wow there's a lot of goodies on that poster image. I wish we'd see a few more items from it made into the regular 3-3/4 scale, like the Rebel troop carrier and a couple of those weird walkers... and that nasty spider looking creature (is that from Dagobah?). Interesting we see Luke with Yoda on his back there so that's why I assume that's a Dagobah spider.
It seems mostly like the Force Unleashed stuff might be near the bottom of the page though so I'm probably just wishful thinking.
-
Wouldn't the Rancor have to be a new sculpt to accomodate the rider? At the very least won't the back have to be redone to accomodate a saddle accessories ect??
If so, looking forward to it and the game cetainly!
DS

Yep. It's actually the baby form of the Dagobah gnarltree.

Cool, thanks for the clarification on the spider. I was pretty sure that it was this thing -

That thing is creepy.
Strangely enough, my fiancee will love it as she's a spider enthusiast.
Thanks for posting the pic, I'll have to send it to her.

Watch Habro give us that AT-ST in the FU line and we'll have to wait another 3-4 years to modify it and release it as the Endor version. ::) Or they might be nice enough and just give it interchangable guns :D
-
I love how they create video games and movies with the toys in mind.
A majority of that stuff Hasbro can create with minimal investment.
The TIE crawler, Rancor, Snowspeeder, Hoth Turret - the list can go on.
-
What's the creature to the right of the Rancor?

Has a clearer shot of that Rancor mini showed up anywhere yet? Man, that thing looks like it's the most awesomely bad repaint I've ever seen. If Hasbro doesn't make one in those colors I'm going to have to find someone that will... it looks just like those Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect toys. And I LOVE those.
-
Looks like the Rancor is headed to a rave. Time to get out those blacklights and pop some X

Maybe it's because they're too lazy to delve into the immense corpus of comic and RPG material to find "new" designs. ::)
But frankly I think the main reason is that the game creators are deathly afraid of scaring away the casual fan if they deviate too far from "familiar" movie material. Witness how seemingly half the games are X-wing/snowspeeder piloting simulators set during the Holy Trilogy, and how every ******* game has to visit Hoth and Tatooine regardless of story logic or continuity.
And to a degree I have to admit they're right. Which more loudly broadcasts "STAR WARS!" to Joe or Jane Shmo walking into GameStop: a TIE fighter with tank treads on it ::) or that robo guard dog thing posted above? I think we all know the answer.
This is true to a certain extent in some comics and RPG guides, but it's much more noticeable in the video games because they have to attract "normal" consumers ... while the only ones of us who read the comics and RPGs are already nerds and we're much less likely to be scared away by *gasp* new material.

Good luck getting one of these in mint condition. >:(
-
Interesting. It looks like they didn't reuse the old potf2 version. Maybe its just the way the rancor is positioned.
-
To me, that looks more like a mockup. The "Rancor" looks flat - like a cardboard cutout or some thing. ???

Yup.

Groan. Somebody watched LOTR too many times when designing EU stuff. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be ::)

I agree it looks flat. I am down to pick one up though.

Yeah, it's the things they give distrubutors, so they have an idea how it'll look ;)

Hopefully they have one to show off at Toyfair. Or do they show exclusives at Toyfair? I forgot if they do or not anyway I'm hoping a new Shaak Ti figure will come with it.

Amen.

I can confirm it's not a Shaak Ti (I know my things ;))
And ToyFair generally for main line items for retailers and wholesalers to know what they're ordering - but once in a while (and extremely rare), they will show off one or two exclusives... But that hasn't happened in a long time already...
-
I can confirm it's not a Shaak Ti (I know my things ;))
Do you mind if I ask how you know? Just curious. We're always interested in new members with some different insight. :)

Well, I've seen my collector store's 08 Q1 Order forms, the description said so -
2) Dan Curto's Quote... Also, the rider is not Shaak Ti. (didn't we already determine that?) Yes, I know more than you do.

I thought Anakin killed Shaak Ti in the Temple.

Shaak Ti is listed as one of the characters on the game's website.

Upon further review, it looks like Shaak Ti IS a part of this. She would make sense as the perfect pack-in figure for this.
Without giving away too many spoilers, all I'll say is that if it is indeed Shaak-Ti it is in keeping with the storyline of the game.

I thought Anakin killed Shaak Ti in the Temple.
He did only in the deleted scenes of ROTS. Since that wasn't what was scene cinematically, LFL/Hasbro can take creative license and keep her alive for the story.
I'm actually glad she's back. Orli Shoshan is a hottie (She's the actress who played her). She has been to my local con twice and is always nice to see and talk with.
-
Shaaki Ti was killed twice in deleted scenes? I prefer her death at the hands of Grevious, it made a better explanation as to why there was a seat open on the council.
-
There's been a lot of confusion regarding Shaak Ti. Especially since the deleted scene from The Invisible Hand in the REVENGE OF THE SITH DVD shows Grievous killing her. Since that scene was cut it isn't considered to be part of the canon.
Then there's her possible death scene in the Jedi Temple. I've seen a still of that, with Anakin entering her chambers while she's seated, and he's preparing to kill her. That didn't make the DVD. But I think it might have made it into the novelization of REVENGE OF THE SITH, however I will have to check on that. But I know for certain that she was in the Jedi Temple at the time of Order 66 in the novelization.
Also, you can see Shaak Ti in the Council chambers in the movie. However, it's only as a hologram as Yoda meets with the High Council from Kashyyyk.

If you don't remember this was done before LOTR in the PS game Star Wars Demolition in 2000 with Rancor Keeper riding a Rancor :P. I do understand what you are saying though ;).

And before that, there was the whole Courtship of Princess Leia Rancor Clan whatever thing in 1995... it's got precedent-a-plenty. It wouldn't surprise me if there was an RPG summplement from West End Games that had the riders too.
I still, in theory, dig it. If the dark parts of the skin are really dark and the bluish parts are ridiculously bright blue, I'm totally sold on this thing. I loves me some chaos. (http://www.jplegacy.org/toys/jpcetoys/raptoralpha.jpg)

And before this Tolkien wrote the books back in the early 20th century....lol
Though I think the two have no correlation between mounted riders.

Its Merchandising, like Master Yogurt would say.

Don't forget- Force Unleashed is coming. WOTC did a Felucian Warrior on Rancor mini-

Yep... and Hasbro's will include a Felucian Warrior/Rider as well. ;)

Damnit, I want to see loose pics of this.
Preferably today.
Thanks.

That would be really cool to see some new aliens, but were did the Rancor originate from? It would be cooler to see a Felucian Warrior on a Ackley over the Rancor. Anyway, I'll welcome any cool looking aliens.

-
I've read its origins have "spread" across the galaxy some... Forget where I read that. Dathomir is what I'd always recalled as its "original" planet though, for what that's worth. Maybe they're just domesticated and used on other worlds then for various purposes.
I always kinda felt like Felucia was an uninhabited world by anything sentient, so I find Felucians sort of surprising themselves. I'm anxious to see this set though, and not really bothered by the concept... I guess the FU line's not bugging me much at all really, and after seeing the Evolutions set, I'm pretty happy with what I see. I just hope the game doesn't blow.
-
Rancors also showed up on Rakata in the Knights Of The Old Republic game. However I don't think they were indigenous to that planet either.
But regarding the Felucians, I found this image of one at Wookieepedia:

I remember that, but I always thought they might have been on a ship that crashed. Maybe something like Jesse said as they are domesticated and used for various purposes, so they could have been rounded up for transport to another world. Kind of like the Mustang to North American, as they were left here with Native Americans domesticating and used them.
That is one really cool looking alien. I could see them being more of a nomad type people, in very small numbers. That would explane why Felucia looks uninhabited. Acklay, as the Star Wars Databank states it hails from the planet Vendaxa, but if they were on Felucia (like in Battle Front) they would detour large type settlements. Maybe there is some other type creature that is just as bad, I don't know. Finding that out though I would have to rethink my last post with them riding a Acklay as they are not native to Felucia.

Thats a pretty cool looking alien, i would buy one.

I think the alien looks like he belongs on the deck of the Flying Dutchman.

Hah! True 'nuff Chewie.

Or something from out've one Lovecraft's books.

Yeah, the official homeworld is Dathomir--but all the authors want to use them so they've shown up all over the galaxy, and the "spreading" explanation is just a CYA after the fact to explain why they're now everywhere. ::)

Good point. ;D

The new Rancor and rider look really good. I am excited for this set. Probably the item I am most excited for from the force unleashed./

OOh this looks very cool.
The Felucian is VERY alien. More plant like than animal. But that fits considering the world it's from.
-
One of the cooler items shown today I think is this set. The Felucian is simply fantastic, and I hope he gets a general release figure int he basic line at some point to army build him a bit.
The Rancor looks pretty great too... Very much anticipating this piece!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting a squad of Felucians.
-
This set is sweet! I cannot wait for the ROTJ Rancor when they repaint this guy! Very cool set just too many exclusives the year. I think this is the most ever in a single year!
-
That is badass. I wonder if the Felucian subspecies of rancor has bioluminescent stripes, or if it's just warpaint. The former would be a lot cooler.
-
I'll pick one of these up on clearance, but at this point, I'm happy with my POTF2 Rancor.
-
Is that a blue jaw-bone type weapon that the Felucian warrior comes with? That would be kinda cool if everything about them was organic, even their weapons.

I don't really like the design of the warrior too much... not Hasbro's fault though.

I am with you, I cannot even tell what it is. Regardless, I hope we get a TFU Shaak Ti to ride that big boy! ;)
For the first time I can actually say I really want a Hasbro repaint of this guy ROTJ style!
-
If Hasbro doesn't make a Shaak Ti, I'll really be aggravated... just for reference, Straxus made an fantatic custom of her -

This will be my first Rancor as I never picked up the POTF2 one.
-
I have a really stupid question...Is this the same Rancor as the POTF2 version? I never opened mine, but I believe his head was fairly close to sticking around the ground.
-
No iFett, it's a completely different sculpt...
It appears to have torso articulation to it, and I believe there's ball/socket ankles there, whereas the original had neither... Not to mention the original has a molded-on earring, molded-on wrist restraints, and also this one's jaw appears to open/close whereas the original one does not.
I do believe this one would make a great base for a new ROTJ one, as rumored. I don't know if the saddle and all that is molded onto it though. Tough to tell.
-
Man....The Rancor rules! I'll take 3.
-
No iFett, it's a completely different sculpt...
Wow that's good news - I figured there were at least some parts re-used in there. The arms I know are different. The head looked a bit better too, so that should have been my #1 clue that this was an all new sculpt.
Kudos to Hasbro for not just re-painting the old POTF2 one for this exclusive.
-
I wouldn't have figured it's new. Might be cool to get one and re-paint it.
-
I'm going to be tempted to do that Anton, but I really think that they'll use this for a ROTJ one too.
-
I was thinking that too, but does this one have the collar and ear ring?
-
When you compare the POTF2 one to the new one it's a night and day difference. My old one is up for trade right now on my trade thread. I might get 2 of these Rancors I wish they had a assortment in stead of just one.
-
I'm waiting for all of the inevitable repaints.
Fire Rancor (Dark Red skin with dark red-black in the creases and recesses of the cracks and folds.)
Ice Rancor (White with blue highlights)
Shadow Rancor (Mostly dark grey and black)
These will go with the TFU Jungle Rancor and of course the ROTJ basic repaint.
-
When you compare the POTF2 one to the new one it's a night and day difference.
But does the new one have 'Real' Skin.? ;)
-

No, but it does sport the JP logo on it ass. Does that count? :D
-
I thought it was the GL Logo on it is ass.
-
I plan on picking up this battle pack.
-
Has anyone been checking this DPCI number at Target? I thought these were supposed to show up around the same time as the Order 66 sets, so it might be worth a shot to start checking for this beast.
I'm very excited about this, as it will be the second large animal I add to my collection. (Bantha was the first) The rider looks really cool, and I hope it gets repacked individually later this year or early next year. I'm definitely in for one set, and possibly a second depening on how much I like the first and possible clearance prices. The Rancor should look great next to fighting the Hasbro Cloverfield Monster. (when I get them both)
-
I checked yesterday at a couple of my local Targets - no luck.
-
It's probably been mentioned somewhere, but how much is this gonna cost?
-
It's probably been mentioned somewhere, but how much is this gonna cost?
$39.99
-
Until you see it on ebay consider it not released. I have been checking eBay and Target stores no luck on Order 66, the Rancor or the 3 exclusive Joe vehicles yet.

Would a larger toy like this show up one eBay? I don't recall items like the Y-Wing and ARC-170 ('07) showing up before public release. I guess the various overseas markets might receive the Rancors before the US, and that's what I should lookout for.
After thinking about it, I could see how an eBay store (Black Sheep toys, is it?) might start stocking the rider figure, and that might be a sign of a close release.
-
Have there been any reports of this anywhere? Could this item be delayed due to the game being delayed. I'd find it odd if that happened, but I also thought that the Battle Rancor was supposed to hit around the same time as the Order 66 2-packs.
-
I actually tried the DPCI with this yesterday, it comes up as out of stock
-

Yeah - I keep trying it too with the same results. I also haven't seen any reports of it showing up which is odd if it was supposed to be on an endcap in the toy section on April 13th.
-

That was my understanding as well. Jeff?

Is that the street date for the order 66?

Yes, but stores have been putting them out early.
-

I just went back to the slide deck from Toy Fair and Hasbro dated the Order 66 2-packs for 4/15 but for the Battle Rancor simply put down "In-Store April"
So they aren't related. I guess the fact that the Aalya Starfighter, Kashyyyk Battle Pack and two GH sets were all tied to the same date, I was assuming that the Battle Rancor and Order 66 sets were tied to the same date.
So an "In-Store April" status could mean April 30th in the end. Oh well.
-
I may sound stupid, but where do you guys use the DCPI codes? What computer are you talking about?
-
I usually just walk up to an employee with a scanner and give him/her the number. They then enter the number into the scanner and it'll tell them if the item is in the store. Hope this helps.
-
I may sound stupid, but where do you guys use the DCPI codes? What computer are you talking about?
There are also red price check scanners in Target, that's the best place to check first. That's where you can punch in DCPI numbers. You can get the numbers in the DCPI thread in the forums. Just look for price scanners in the store, there are several throughout the store.
I have had the same results that the item is not in stock. There are none on ebay which means they are no where in sight. I think the Rancor is going to be in stores in May by the looks of things.
-

Cool, I never knew about that.
-
Not all Targets have the scanners with the buttons for you to punch in though... I always just go to customer service and ask.
;)
-
Or you can just call the Cust. Serv. Desk to whatever store you might want to go, give them the DCPI # and ask if they have any in stock, and if they do they might be nice enough to pull 1 for you and hold it at the Cust Serv Desk if you ask politely. That's how I got my Target exclu Neyo trooper guy before they put them out anyway.
The Cust Serv desk people are usually nicer then the people that you pull aside on the floor, and more willing to help, They probably get the concept of what making a sale is as apposed to letting sit in back on a shelf.
-

;)
Newer stores have the new price checkers. However some stores that see heavy collector traffic and frequent use of the DCPI codes may disable the keypad function on those scanners. I've seen it happen at a couple of stores in my area.
I also saw a report in another forum that the Rancor had been spotted. However I didn't see a verification photo.

I would not believe it. Until it hits eBay this thing is nowhere to be found. I have checked Targets and eBay for the past few weeks. I have also been checking completed auctions too! There are none in sight, I am really looking forward to this one I already sold off my old Rancor.
Exclusives are a real pain in the arse! I am actually not looking forward to the WM Droid Factory sets for the simple reason of the the hunt. WM exclusives are so tough to get, I have never seen the Rebo Band sets in the wild. (Not that I was looking for them.) I only came across the comic packs once and bought as many as they had of the Kellers. I will give Target credit at least their exclusives are plentiful.
-
As of today, none have been sold anywhere....or even shipped to stores, yet...but soon.
-
Hasbro (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/default.cfm?page=News/Item&newsid=5729A46D-D56F-E112-4DCBF40C1A9EC4B6) has posted an update today featuring this set, although I don't see a date mentioned.
-
I wonder where they got the idea for this thing from?
-
That's funny, I thought the same thing the first time we saw this Scott. It does look kind of cool, and I was sort of on the fence with it with this big lull - but I'd sooner wait for a ROTJ repaint, and save my money for that Falcon I think :).
-
But the Hasbro site says "luminous" paint- Does this puppy glow in the dark? That might be too cool to pass up ;D
-
Turn on the black light, pop in some Hendrix and unleash "the force" (http://www.rollitup.org/images/smilies/bong7bp.gif)
-
I'm betting the paint shines in a blacklight... Just a guess, however glow-in-the-dark seems more like a toy's feature so I dunno. Looking at it though I was thinking a black light would really make it pop.
I really dig the rancor w/rider from the game. It's a very large piece I wouldn't have expected from a video game promotion... Had it all released around time the game came out, I think it all would've made more sense, but such is the life of tying toys to a game I suppose. I would love two of the Rancor but probably not at the $40 price so I'll settle for one. I'd take a dozen Felucian Warriors though. Too bad it's a pack-in. :-\
-
But the Hasbro site says "luminous" paint- Does this puppy glow in the dark? That might be too cool to pass up ;D
while the Force-sensitive Felucians may mark their Rancors with luminous warpaint, Hasbro marks their Rancors with shiny paint that is supposed to look lumious but doesn't actually "glow in the dark". ;)
In other words, the one at Toy Fair didn't have GitD paint on it as far as I remember...
-
If you hit glow-in-the-dark paint or plastic with a blacklight it really glows bright. Try it with the POTJ Emperor's Wrath Vader - his skull and lightsaber really kick off some glow.
-
The paint looks pretty bright already, should look cool under a black light. Salacious Crumb borrowed my black light, now i gotta get it back. :P
-
I checked Targets DCPI number and this item is still not in stock and no signs on ebay even the completed auction search comes up with nothing. I highly doubt we will see this item in April.

Could be. I check 3 Target DCPI's and Ebay yet again. No sign of them...the shield doors must be closed......

At this point, I wish they'd just cancel all items associated with TFU. It is obviously a flop from a merchandising stand point due to game & Hasbro's other manufacturing delays. Let's just bury the TFU concept and move on to the Legacy and Clone Wars lines. Our pocket books will appreciate it.

I'd disagree with that had the game been out in time.
But even then, I still do not see TFU stuff pegging for long. Certainly the wave of figures has not clogged pegs. The troopers are very popular. I'm still looking forward to getting the Rancor and will buy the game.
I will agree that interest has diminished, but it's not Hasbro fault this time.
-
I guess I can see why some people don't want to collect TFU stuff, but I surely don't want them to cancel ANY of it... I really like most of the designs, and each time the figures make it to the pegs in my area at least, they sell out the same day. The Vader, Stormies and Shadow Guards are hot figures around these parts... and Rahm and Maris sell fast too. The only pegwarmer is Juno and of course the Wookiee Battle Packs, but I think we all saw that coming.
In September, I think Hasbro should sprinkle the figures back into the mix in a few shipments so the kiddos who find themselves interested in the game can get the figures from it. And probably save the Rancor for the game release too (though I'd love to get it now).
And who knows, since the game got pushed back, maybe Hasbro has seen this as an opportunity to surprise us with a Shaak Ti figure or something else to coincide with the release of the game.
-

Now THAT would be a pleasant surprise. I was hoping for this figure when I say concepts of her. She will be sadly missed if they never make her. She looks more like a warrior Jedi than the more passive one I take her for in ROTS.
-
the otheR Site is eporting it has been found, looks like i will be hitting up target after work today.
-
With the summer movie toys taking up a LOT of floor space, and our targets just starting to clear out the latest wave of exclusives, I wonder where this gets stocked?
I took a look at the otheR site, and was very surprised to see that it seems bigger than the POTF2 version. I just hope it can stand ok, and that Jabba's pet is slated for release later this year.

I thought it looked larger than the previous version(s) as well, at least from that picture. What is the correct scale for the Rancor (Jesse?)? I didn't know if the POTF2 version was accurate or not. I'm on the fence with this one, it looks kind of neat, but I want to hold out and hope that we'll get a new ROTJ version later this year or next (using this mold).
-
Taking a look at that comparison pic over at Yakface today, this new Rancor is significantly larger than the previous version. I might be fairly tempted to pick one up when these show up at retail, but I'm still just hoping we'll see a ROTJ version of this sculpt and wait for that one. Looks good though.
-
Definitely worth picking up...

Does that Rancor driver have a removable helmet or is that really his face?
-
I'm not sure if it's really his face or not, but there's nothing removable on the head...
-
Does he have swivel fingers or something? Looks like the Rancor has a craving for calamari :P
-
Went to Target and picked up the Rancor. This was the only Force Unleashed item i was relaly looking forward to and it doesn't let down. i cant wait to get the Jabba's Palace version.
Not sure if this is an indication of anything but the target i got it at only had 1 case. There are 2 in the case.
-
Fingers don't swivel, at least not on mine... but I didn't try too hard to twist them. Hopefully Freelo can slip out of his grip. :P
Yeah evenflow... the Target I got mine at only had one case too...
-

I honestly don't know Brian, as I've never really paid much attention to the Rancor's size. When it stands upright, Luke can run under it unobstructed... There's a chance the original is a bit small then, I'm not sure. The new one's clearly much larger, and that's fine by me as they're, supposedly, different species of Rancor or something too... Plus there's size differences that are pretty significant between males/females too, which could be a reasoning.
-
As good as it looks I have far better things to spend my money on..(BMF, TE, countless legacy figures)..so I will wait until a unpainted version is released. Besides the figure does nothing for me, looks like it belongs in the Pirates toy line.
-
Really impressive when compared to the original. I wonder how soon until we see some customs of this one.
-

If I know Chewie he's already working on it. ;)
So if this the mold that H is going to use for the ROTJ version it's gonna suck that his hand can't really reach his mouth to eat his piggy snack. Should've given him elbow articulation. And once again of course H gives a figure ankle articulation instead of knee.
-

I agree with you on the elbow part. That would have been nice, but at least his head turns so he can point his choppers in the right direction while holding a figure in his hand. I don't really see the point in having knee articulation though as he's looks very top heavy IMO.
-
So who all has picked this up so far?
-
I picked mine up a few weeks ago.
-
Just commenting on the size difference between this version and the POTF2 version, I was reading the Insider issue #93 and they were talking about the Rancors in TFU. In the game there's a Bull Rancor which is larger and more powerful than the Rancor seen in ROTJ. I'm curious if this is supposed to be one of those Bull Rancors.
-
I got mine over the weekend and I really dig it. It's obvious Hasbro decided to go with the "repaint" of a movie Rancor before the regular ROTJ-friendly release comes to pass.
The little Felucian is fun-- it's really weird but I like it. I'd buy another one if Hasbro stuck it in a battle pack down the road. It's like some tiki alien thing, which I dig.
The Rancor's saddle doesn't sit too well on mine, or I'm too dense to make it sit correctly. It looks good, but doesn't work as well as I'd like it.
The Rancor is freaking gorgeous. Awesome sculpt, wonderful pose, great articulation. I'm concerned about long-term stability-- it's mostly hollow, and it's big and heavy. I have a feeling the summer heat and gravity might combine to bring him down off a shelf after a short period of time. It's quite possibly the most bootiful "creature" Hasbro has produced for the line, I can't wait to do a big writeup on it because it's just so wonderful.
The downside, of course, is that it has blue stripes on it. But this is also an upside. I like it.
-

that war paint AWSOME!!!!
-
I really like the Rancor and the size is awesome, but the figure that comes with it is incredibly lame. :P
-
^ If you don't want the figure, please shoot me a PM! :)
-
Begrudgingly picked this up yesterday. Mighty impressive, but I don't know if i'll ever get around to opening it.
-
^ If you don't want the figure, please shoot me a PM! :)
I don't really like it, but can't be -1 figure and still call myself a respectile completist. I do have a spare Rancor though and you can have the figure if you can find someone else who wants the beast. ;)
-
I saw a couple of these tonight, and was surpirsed by how big it was. The pictures we've seen for months really don't do it justice.
-
I was bored this morning and snapped a couple more shots. As you can see, the bone accessory from the TAC Jedi Luke wedges perfectly in the Rancor's mouth. So, it looks like hasbro took that into consideration when designing it.
(http://jedijaybird.home.comcast.net/FURancorbone.jpg) (http://jedijaybird.home.comcast.net/FURancorbone2.jpg)
Hopefully we'll get a new Rancor Keeper or a Pig Guard as a pack-in for the ROTJ version :P
-
Nice pics - I'm hoping for a new Rancor Keeper with him, and new Gamorrean Guards to be on single cards...
-
I bought and opened two Rancors earlier this week. Well worth the $35 each. The articulation is very well done. The riders are also very cool due to the exotic and alien nature of their design. The only feature I don't like is the saddle/harness. Riding a Rancor seems like too much of a ridiculous concept for Star Wars. The Rancors themselves remind me a lot of the Jurassic Park dinosaurs from the early '90s and have me very excited about the Hasbro-produced Cloverfield monster I'll be receiving in September/October.
About the ROTJ Rancor, that might be the only way to get any Rancor keeper figure. I wouldn't hold my breath for a new one, but Hasbro does like to surprise us. The current FU Rancor was a completely new set, so you never know.
-
I bought and opened two Rancors earlier this week. Well worth the $35 each.
How did you get them for $35 each? They were $40 + tax here...
-
^ Probably by using a $5.00 off coupon (http://chewie34.250free.com/target5offyv5.jpg).
-
I got this with my Hasbro rebate, and for free it's very nice. For $40... Actually, as nice as it is, I may have actually passed on it. Go figure. It's a nice piece, but it's way huge, and not from the movies, so I'm thinking I may get more selective on that kinda stuff in the future.
-

I definitely am, if that helps. I'm rounding out the 30AV as far as being a completist, and after that, I'll be sticking mainly to the OT.
-
I with ya, with the price of gas...have to cut back somewhere.. I just do not have the time or energy to start collecting another new line, the clone wars, just sticking the legends line or what ever name they are giving it this year...
-
Got 4 of these now... heh heh... 2 are for a friend though, but I'm kinda tempted to keep all of them; but I won't. I love this damn beast.
-
^ Probably by using a $5.00 off coupon (http://chewie34.250free.com/target5offyv5.jpg).
Justin knows all to well about how to get the "deals" at Target. Must have been a brain fart on his end. I don't even want to tell you guys how many "deals" he has wound up with in regards to TAC products at Target. :-X
-
I love this damn beast.
I'm pretty sure that's illegal in every state with the exception of Nevada.
-
I saw one of these at our local Target yesterday. I didn't pick it up (holding out hope for a ROTJ repaint), but it was pretty nifty looking. Man, that's a big box.
-
I saw a couple more of these at the Super Target across town this weekend, and it still is pretty impressive. What does everyone make of Hasbro's answer this week that the ROTJ version that was originally planned for this year is being pushed to 2009, but it might not get made if we don't buy up this Force Unleashed version? I'm going to hope that we will eventually see the ROTJ one next year (it would be a shame to under-use that new mold), but I was thinking about picking this other version up - but I just don't have the room for an army of Rancors.
-
but I just don't have the room for an army of Rancors.
Then how about just two? The TFU one and the ROTJ one.
-
Brian, if you shell out the money for the Rancor, I think you'll be glad you did. :)
-
I've picked up three of these, I'm still kinda torn on whether or not I REALLY need/want to have two of them open. I wish I had a better understanding of the role these play in the game. Like if the Secret Apprentice faces off against Shaak Ti backed up by two of these, then having two open would be cool. If he only faces off against a lone Felucian on a Rancor, then having two would be pointless. Minimally, it would be interesting to see if Shaak Ti rides a Rancor as well, so if one day they release a figure of her from the game, I could always put her in the saddle of one.
Best/Worse case scenario is that the three I bought helps us get a repaint of this excellent beasty for Jabba's palace.
-
I bought it. I love it. It ate my POTF2 Rancor for lunch. :)
I want more Felucians now, I really like this guy.
-
Best/Worse case scenario is that the three I bought helps us get a repaint of this excellent beasty for Jabba's palace.
Three more in the pot. Three less we need to hear about Hasbro bitching about how we won't get a ROTJ version. :)
-
(http://chewie34.250free.com/RancorRiders.png)
^ If this image is any sort of indication of how many to expect in the game...
-
Thanks Chewie - I knew I saw a pic with the Apprentice facing off with more than one Rancor and Shaak Ti. Well, I'm not going to go crazy with four of them to open, but two is a good number. ;D
I guess I'm going to keep it and open it. They will make an excellent center-piece on the shelf where I display all of the Force Unleashed figures.
-
I don't thinkyou should take the picture as being true to the game, look closely...Shak Tii is on all of the rancors lol.
-
Shak Tii is on all of the rancors lol.
I was kinda wondering the same thing...
-
Even if that is her on all of them, I'm sure there's more than one Rancor on all of Felucia... ;)
-
Not all of them belong to Shaak Ti though. So there! :P
-
She probably belongs to all of them!
-
I wonder if we'll see one in the game with that red paint scheme like in the painting? If so, I might be tempted to try that on one of mine.
-
Shak Tii is on all of the rancors lol.
I was kinda wondering the same thing...
Maybe it somekind of force illusion. So not to know which is the real Shak Tii to fight.
just a thought
-
Picked up two Rancors yesterday. Very nice. I just wish he didn't have such a hard time standing up by himself.
-
^ I feel the same way about the Rancor... I love it, but mine don't stand too well either.
-
I'm gonna have to agree with you guys. I can either make my Rancors look like monkeys by using their hands to walk, or have him stand straight up and lean on his tail. Neither of those options make for a hungry and ferocious looking enemy. :(
-
I've got my boxed and loose versions, but am thinking about returning the boxed one and waiting for clearance. One store near my house has ten of these things sitting around and I can't imagine they are going to sell at full price anytime soon.
-
I may nab a 2nd on clearance if I get it cheap enough... Nearby has 2 sitting now for a while and I'm guessing more in the back. At $40 a pop, they're neat but pricey... So I'm banking I can get one at least $10 or $20 off at some point. I'd dig a 2nd, though I have no clue where it will go.
-
I would love to pick up another one but nothing ever sits here along enough for clearance.
-
It's weird hearing all this talk of people picking up multiples of this thing when I wasn't even sure I wanted one. :P
-

Yup... same problems with the POTJ (?I forget which set it was that this is a repaint of). Can't make it stand normally because the leg joins are so poorly designed. *sigh*
-
I noticed at our local Target this weekend that there are almost as many Rancors in the SW section as basic figures. They had four Rancors along the bottom shelf in the action figure aisle, and had reduced the SW basic section down to a couple of pegs with 6 total figures (all Elis Herlot).
-
These beasts should be hitting clearance any time now especially since Target needs to make room for 07/26. I also have a good feeling about the o66 packs, but probably not in the numbers we saw last time.
-
Oboe, I don't believe this is a repaint at all, is it? There was only the original POTF2 version, and this is an all-new sculpt. In fact, the more I look at it, the more I'm anticipating the ROTJ repaint version that we're likely to see.
Edit: comparison pic!
-
I hadn't actually compared them yet... It looks like despite the new scultping, they used the same "weak" leg joint process that makes the Rancor really hard to "stand" on it's own without knuckle support.
I still like the vintage one the best :-)
-
Thank you for the picture, you resolved my dilemma on whether I should attempt to get one or not.
-
Sure thing- I remembered seeing it over at RS. This particular pic sure makes the new one's hands look grossly large, but I like that his head is smaller like the vintage one. A good dark wash and he should make a nice ROTJ replacement.
-
I love the new version but i wish it had elbow articulation. That would have made it perfect
-
Nice figure if they put it on clearance i will pic it up, but for full price its kinda hard to justify...
-
I went in to pick one up today and found it on clearance for $27.98! Made my afternoon brighter here in Seattle!
-
Found these at $19.98 at several stores in Minnesota today. I wasn't as impressed with these as others, but great product at $20.
-

Same here. Quite a random surprise.
-
If anyone finds one and could pick it up and just sell me the rider, that'd rock. $15 for the rider? It'd leave you with a nice cheap rancor.
Anyone??????

I don't really need a spare drooler, but if anyone wants just the rancor, we have enough of them around here that I could pick one up and split between yourself and Rob.
-
I still havn't picked one of these up yet. I may have to now that the price has gone down.
