I'd go a little further and say that Wiseacres has nothing to do with it either - I don't think anyone here should have a problem with the way he runs that website. :)

Well, I ended up going the third route.  I went ahead and PMd an admin to have them delete my account.  I'm a very private person and I'd hate to have someone I had traded with in the past see me ****** GNT or Wise and disagree, then subsequently decide to post my private information.  So, I went the diplomatic route which, while the least fun, avoided adding any more fuel to the fire.

Besides, Wise is doing a good enough job of burning the whole village down by himself. :)

Hi Lady Jaye, it's nice to see you over here and not just stuck in one place.   :)

I hope that nobody here is mad at me for getting reinstated there.  The only reason I wanted to be was to keep in touch with the customizers there.  I doubt I will ever post in another section there again.

JD.com is where it's at.  I hope we get some more members here.

Not at all. I was going to keep my account active for the same reason,  but I kinda burned that bridge ::)  And then I didn't care anymore, the people I wanted to keep in touch with either came here, I already have their e-mail, or they are at FFURG. So it doesn't really matter.

Peronally, I still don't think this mail was NEARLY big enough a deal for the ****storm that followed it.  The mail didn't  even bother me.....and actually, I still don't get why people are so bent out of shape about it.

Ok the thread went insane in the 24 hours since I last checked it out. something like 12 new pages added to it, sorry to hear that so many people have had to deal with bulllshit stemming from my original post on scum about the spam. But I wanna reply to the above quote from Josh to explain a bit why I made the original post.

The e-mail message was an unsolicited message sent to the email addresses of users of the Rebelscum forums (and as in KBZ's case e-mail addresses not associated with the user account). While there was a mention of this being done in their privacy notice, this was never publicly mentioned. Why should it be mentioned? Because a good portion of the users at Rebelscum's forums signed up at the previous home of those forums, specifically CollectStarWars. By signing up there we were agreeing to those terms and any new terms should have been announced to the user base. Furthermore, under law  (The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003) the message must include an opt-out from the e-mail list for any future messages, from http://www.emailmarketingautoresponders.com/spamlaw.htm ....

Quote
Commercial e-mail must contain a clear identification that the message is an advertisement, must contain a conspicuous notice of opportunity to decline further e-mail and must display the physical postal address of the sender.

The message received from Phil and TRU did NOT include this opt-out message and that was in of itself one of my problems, though I admit I could have better stated that in my original thread on scum.

In the end the message was unsolicited and unwanted. It was just a repeat of information already on display on Rebelscum's news page, but apparently that wasn't enough. I expressed my concerns really as a way to make sure this did not become a re-occuring theme, where we start getting emails from other Rebelscum advertisers. No other reputable site that I know of, does these things (don't include SSG as doing it, because they aren't reputable to me), so I see no reason for it to have been done by scum. Well no reason that expresses a sense of community....

I understand that it was spam.  My comments weren't insinuating otherwise.  I certainly don't remember having an option to "opt out" back when I registered....but at the same time, it's just one of 500 junk mails I got that day, and it happened to be Star Wars related, which really didn't bother me.  That's all I'm saying.  It;s not a big enough deal to cause all this.

However, I didn't even check to see if there was an opt-out thing on the email itself. Doesn't that mean that technically we can get 500 bucks from Philip for each offense now?  Or at least in Washington state we can.  Where I LIVE.  ;D

Damn it Corran it was all your fault!!!!! ;) :)

No worries man, someone would have started that thread sooner or later, and it wasn't your fault that Philip was a jerk and can't answer an innocent question without thinking about a bit of precious money that might be taken out of his pocket. ::)

EDIT: Speaking of money... Philip should send about $500 my way....

The spam itself did not cause all of this.  That was just the impetus.  Philip's callous and arrogant response to his own forum members is what really got the ****storm going.

Oh, well, that and apparently he now refuses to share his site with people from other forums as well, of course...  :P

Well technically yes if someone wanted to inform the proper authorities I assume TRU and Phil could be fined for it. While it was just one more spam in a litany of spam I get in my email, my biggest concern is that maybe the number of spam will increase if we get more messages from Phil and his advertisers. Or worse, what if some of the spam I get is already due to me being on Rebelscum? Not the crap like porn or pills cause that would be just disturbing, but I get spam from places selling SW **** often, who knows where that exactly comes from...

If some one can find the Toys R Us customer service portion of their website, and give me an adress (cause I cant find the damned thing) I'll gladly let them know of this little fiasco, or better yet, some one send me an email adress so he gets a fine. I've got nothing better to do till work tommorow.
