Pitt's been standing on my computer desk since I put him together and I still can't get over just how bulky he is.  I decided to compare him to the ML Sentinel and while that's quite a bit taller, Pitt wins out in sheer massiveness.  While I had them out I snapped a couple pictures.

Okay, how did you guys let Hayden Panattiere's 18th birthday slip by without posting any hot photos of her?

Slackers....

Waves 2 and 3 look like winners in my book.  I'm a little iffy on Lady Jaye, have to wait to see it in person.  Never was a big Serpentor fan but the figure looks good.

Can't wait for Firefly and Beachhead though.

Actually, that Ratchet looks pretty cool.  I haven't bought him yet either and didn't think that I would, but the repaint looks pretty good.  Like you said, if it's not $30 maybe I'll pick one up.

I'll probably pass on the Megatron, though.  I didn't really care for the figure although I thought the design looked cool in the film.

But I still want my ******* Concept Bumblebee, goddamn it.

Right!

Nothing here either.  I was in my local Wal-Mart and one up the road about 45 minutes that I don't get to often.  Neither store had Deluxe but they both had a ton of the Cyberton vehicles.  I don't even recall seeing a lot of them at my local store when they were first out so it's kind of sad.

Target keeps putting the Real Gear stuff in the Deluxe slots which is just kind of annoying at this point.

But it's not just Transformers although they're the worst culprit right now.  None of Hasbro's stuff is stocking consitently here.  Not TF, not GI Joe (after the initial rush) and not Star Wars TAC.  You can tell the difference between stores just not getting new stock and stores not having supply from Hasbro and right now I think it's a lack of supply from Hasbro.

I would love to go to this con some day but this year CIV soaked up all my spare cash and the non-Celebration years have been too far away.

I wish they'd find somewhere in the North East to hold this con.  I think DC is the closest they've come but that was 6 years ago at least.

That new 5-pack is kind of underwhelming.  It does have 3 troop builders in it but you buy that and you already have 3 Storm Shadow and 3 Cobra Commander figures in the collection and the line will only be 3 months old.

If they really wanted to continue the 5-pack format why not a Drednok set?  Crimson Guard set with Tomax and Xamot?  Or, if  they wanted repacks along with new, how about a Commanders set with Hawk and Flagg vs CC, Destro and a Cobra Trooper?

Re-paints.  Bah.

I picked up a set of 6 tonight and built Pitt.  I found them at a WM on clearance already for $7 each.  When I noticed that I decided not to pass them up.

The Pitt figure is incredible.  I have two issues with mine, the elbow in the left arm doesn't have the "click" positining so he can't hold some poses and the upper body is so heavy the hip joints have a hard time holding him.

I might snag a second right arm if I can get another cheap but I don't know.  That one most won't have to worry about but the weight and the hip joints may be a problem with a lot of them.  Still, overall, it's an incredible figure.  And well worth the price, especially on sale like that.

I haven't gone through the basic line yet to know if I'm going to keep any of them but I may hold onto Witchblade and maybe Judge Dredd.  The rest, although they look good, just aren't up my alley as collectibles.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Toy Recalls - What's Next?

I never though magnets would be any more of an issue than a kid swallowing a coin or something similar.  It never occurred to me that if there were two of them they could attract to each other across the walls of intestine and cause a tear and other problems.

The Magnetix toys brought out that revelation.

****, on farms you put magnets in cows on purpose to attract things like nails and whatnot so that they don't make it to the intestines or damage the stomach.  Obviously, people aren't cows, but still, the magnet problem just wasn't something that occurred to me till last year.

Now, lead paint on the other hand, we've know about that for as long as I can remember.  I remember there being product recalls on fast food glasses back in the early 80's due to lead in the paint and problems they were having in apartment complexes with lead based trim paint and kids teething on it.

There was a big recall on some of the Magnetix toys last year because of the magnets falling out of them.  One thing that they've kept mentioning in all the reports I've read is about the power of them.  The Magnetix were pretty strong and apparently so are some of the ones in the toys being recalled now.

I wonder if the magnets in the SW figures are powerful enough that they'd raise the same alarm?

All these recalls are really going to hurt Mattel's bottom line for the year.

I was really hyped for these figures when I first saw photos of them but now that the line has seemingly expanded and I've gotten a couple out of the package I think I'll only be picking up a few of them.

I've seen probably 15-20 Snake Eyes figures on the pegs and only one black wolf, which I bought.  That was stocked at K-Mart.

Other Toy Lines / Re: A Collection of Collections?
« on: August 13, 2007, 07:48 PM »
You've hit on one of the reasons that focus and character collecting are popular.  I like the idea of the Galactic Heroes and 2" Unleashed, for example, but they aren't something I wanted to really get into.  But, both lines now have an AT-AT Driver figure so I added them to my character collection.

It's a way to collect neat items from different lines (within Star Wars in this case) and still have a theme that brings them together.  My main collection revolves around Hasbro action figures but my character collection lets me branch out.  I also collect Republic Gunship vehicles so I bought the Transformer and later this year I'll also pick up the AT-AT/AT-AT Driver, meaning I'll have Transformers in my collection even though I wouldn't normally have picked them up.

I do also collect figures from other lines outside Star Wars though.  Notably, GI Joe figures.  But I have enough of them that they form their own collection. The oddball stuff either fits on a shelf by itself or eventually ends up in storage.  I still have the Sentinel Build-A-Figure from the ML line on my bookshelf but the figures that I kept from that wave, Angel and Spider-Man, have long gone into a tub somewhere.  Ironhide and Barricade are on the shelf and, hopefully, Bumblebee will join them shortly.  I'll probably keep them on display, though, as I really liked those movie figures.

I started out as a toy collector before I really got back into Star Wars.  Back in the early to mid 90's I was collecting a lot of things but when the glut of EP1 stuff started hitting I pretty much did away with everything else because my hobby money was tied up.

I'm not sure if he's on JD.com but my buddy Joe Kersavage (some of you here know him) has fun adding 3" (or thereabout) figures to his collection by incorporating them into his Cantina display in his Star Wars room.  He's got some Predator and Alien figures along with Micro Man Batman and Batgirl figures, and even a monkey from the Planet of the Apes movie in there.  So he found a way to buy other cool toys and display them without needing to have an entire area dedicated to them.

But, back to your main question, I mostly did away with other toys besides Star Wars and for the SW lines outside of the 3.75" area I usually pass until I can add an item that fits into my character or vehicle focus.

Aaah.  No.

At first thought, if Jackson and Walsh wrote and produced and Weta did the visuals then someone else directing might work.  But on second thought, no.  Those novels are too important to me and after what Jackson was able to do with LOTR it's unacceptable to me that someone else would get to do the Hobbit.

Thanks for the info, Brian.  I don't think my WM is going to carry the Joe stuff anymore but we'll see.  This is also a store that has never carried any Star Wars exclusives.  They never carried the VTOC last year and didn't have VTAC this year.  It's a newer store, only 3 years old, mabye, and very sketchy on what they stock.

The 12" Joe figures I found in Elmira were in cardboard displays on a 4-sided aisle display along with the new Marvel Toys figures.  That store didn't have shelf tags for 25th GI Joe figures either but they weren't done with their reset yet.

You know, when I did my list I actually forgot about R3-A2 and I was lobbying pretty hard for him last year in the Saga Legends poll.  I have a boxed set with him in it but I'd love to get him on a single card and open him.

One thing that I think about when I look over these lists is that, while some figures are cheap on eBay, the shipping kills it for me.  I'm guilty of telling people to go to eBay to get a swimming Jar Jar, for example, because he can be found for original retail or less.  But at the same time, I won't go to eBay for single carded figures selling at original retail, or close to it, because of shipping costs.

And it's not always the seller's fault.  It costs close to $6 to send 1 carded figure from California to NY using Priority Mail.  And there's not really a cheaper alternative now that the postal rates went up.  The difference is only some spare change.  Paying $12 shipped for a carded figure just seems too much to me and it's all because of shipping costs.  Obviously there are also those that gouge for shipping, $8 or $10 for one carded figure?  Please.  And no, I won't pay "handling" fees.

So anyway, while some of the figures on eBay can be had at retail, I can still see why some people are reluctant to buy that way because of shipping.  However, if you lobby for a *crappy* figure like Sio Bibble just because you're too cheap to spring for $6 shipping, well, I have no understanding for your poor choice in nominations.   ;)
