Title: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: evenflow on November 19, 2005, 09:46 AM
I was at the sirs website and they have pics of 2 of the 4 figures in the set. Lucas from the opera and his daughter i beleive. I think its actually pretty coolo, cant wait for these figures, seems liek they will be Starwarsshop exclusives. hey mention that it was a flyer from them with the exclusive clone trooper. I didnt get a flyer. There are pics up over there.

I saw those pictures over at Rebel Scum. This is very interesting, indeed.

Yeah, I saw that last night.  There goes the b.s. about how George was not going to let his character become a figure.  It looks like it's pretty cool IMO.  Even his daughter's action figure looks nice.  Not sure what the other 2 figs will be?  Lucas as a stormtrooper perhaps and maybe the other daughter?

Hmm, interesting. The prototypes look good, but I'll wait until we see "official" pics to criticise/praise them.

Probably Zett Jukassa and maybe Lucas' other daughter.

I don't think they should re-release Jett Zukasa, but who knows.  The other daughter is a good choice.

Gotta love it... STAR WARS IS FOREVER!

Remember all the naysayers saying the line would end in 2006...  ::)

For the lazy among us ;), the article is here (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Starwarsshopcom_2006_Exclusives_95936.asp):

Lookin' really good so far!

BTW, any one else notice how RS is hotlinking a lot of news images lately ... for example, those Lucas pics are on CollectingHQ.com. Not cool. ::) Or have they been doing this for a while and I never noticed until recently?
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Darth_Anton on November 20, 2005, 11:00 AM
I thought those images were scanned by a member. At least that's what the member said he did.

As for the collection, I give a non-commital - interesting. Cute almost.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Disco_Jedi on November 20, 2005, 12:10 PM
Yes, the images that are on RS are scanned from a inserted flyer I received from SWShop when I got my Anakin Maquette and not from another site.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Nathan on November 20, 2005, 03:05 PM
My apologies ... I was referring to the fact than when you go, for example, to this page (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006357.jpg) and right-click the image, the address is http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006357.jpg instead of a Rebelscum address. Initially I thought RS was stealing bandwidth from some other collecting site...

...But when I actually go to CollectingHQ.com (http://www.collectinghq.com), it's "Collecting Headquarters develops website publishing software that enables easy management of complicated websites, specifically targeting news and image based applications." and that RS is listed as one of their affiliate sites (http://www.collectinghq.com/affil.asp). D'oh!

Note to self: fact-check next time before shooting yer mouth off. :-[

Looking at it, that Baron Papanoida figure is now must most antipated release of next year.  Why?  Because it's a never before done sculpt that is not a Jedi, Clone or Imperial.  Even the female senator figure is pretty cool.  Maybe we'll aslo get the rubenesque Twi'lek from AOTC.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: CHEWIE on November 20, 2005, 11:13 PM
Good call Speedermike.  To me, I'm excited about these mostly because they are of obscure characters, not of Clones or Jedi.  And they look like kickass custom fodder.  I could see making a Naboo Queen custom out of the daughter figure.

 :P
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Brian on November 21, 2005, 09:25 AM
I saw this over the weekend too, kind of a nice surprise.  I'll be happy to get a Lucas figure like this, and if they do the rest of his family, that's cool too.  I know if I was in charge of a franchise like this, I'd give my kids a cameo/action figure too ;).  I'll be curious what the price point is on these, as it sounds like they are SWShop exclusives, but at least they look like all-new figures.  I plan on picking them up, especially the George Lucas/Baron Papanoida one.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Darth_Anton on November 21, 2005, 09:35 AM
I'm just happy they won't be anything resembling an army builder like the covert ops trooper.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: JesseVader08 on November 22, 2005, 04:30 PM
My first impression?  Kinda boring.   :-\

Knowing how hard it is to get SWS.com exclusives makes it easier to handle if this is what we'll be getting.  Hell, I like the Holiday Vader more than these.

Of course, it's hard to be fair when I've just got 2 B&W photos to look at.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: TheBlackDog65 on November 22, 2005, 05:40 PM
My first impression . . .

Lucas in his study with the action figures of his family.

Door pops open with Rick coming in  . . . .

Lucas: throws the figures into a desk drawer, talks with McCallum. Then at the end asks
"You didn't see anything did you Rick?"

"Nope, George, your cool. I did not see you playing with the dolls of you and your family."

Taken from the Space Balls.

Actually, I'm not excited about the figures. I don't have a Jorg Socal, so if I get these great, if not, great.

Post by: speedermike on November 22, 2005, 07:46 PM
In a way, it doesn't really matter to me if this is Lucas.  I'm a huge fan of the guy, and I love his work, but to me, these are ROTS figures, regardless of what they are called.

Post by: Jesse James on November 23, 2005, 02:09 AM
I'm game for these figures...  Background aliens and the like are always welcomed in my collection if they're quality work.  The prequals were filled with so little uninteresting background stuff compared to the OT that stuff like this seems as though the only viable options for obscurity.

Better than Jorg Sacul, that's for damn certain.

I've been out of action for a while, so just to chime in on these:  cool for the people that want them, but very boring to me.  If it means a chance at getting figs like Dorme, then I'm all for it.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection

To bad Lucas' kid did not play Dorme then.  I doubt we ever see Dorme especially since they won't make Padmes now.

I'd like to canibalize Papa Lucas for a custom of "The Phantom" from Phantom Of The Opera's Masquerade scene.

Post by: CHEWIE on December 21, 2005, 09:05 PM
Simply awesome!  Thanks for the heads up - count me in for two sets.  The Zett kind of to me is a waste, but the others look great.

Baron Papanoida - Very nice, it's a goofy outfit, but it looks like a great figure - great sculpt.

Chi Eekway- Wow, that is extremely cool - her "overcoat" thing is neat.  I'd like to see more views of the figure too.  Looks like some awesome custom fodder.  In case I have the names mixed up, I am referring to the blue girl.

Terr Taneel - I forsee some sort of Naboo Queen customs coming from this - this is a great looking figure.

Overall, one heck of a cool set I think - it will be nice to add in some Coruscant type residents.  Really needed some more obscure ones like this, and it fits the bill nicely.  Definitely need two (or more) sets.

Well, it's an online exclusive.  Worth it to me, just to get these figures - they are unlike anything you can buy in the store.  A few Amidalas kind of similar to the one chick and I don't think Zett's worth more than a couple bucks (maybe custom fodder though).  But to me it's worth it.

While rumours of this set have been building for a while, I wasn't that excited about it.  But the carded collector in me likes how it looks.  The figures themselves though?  Meh.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: SilverZ on December 21, 2005, 10:26 PM
I'm not tremendously excited by these, but it is refreshing to see exclusive figures that are actually all-new sculpts. That's a huge improvement over all of 2005's exclusive product. SWS is probably the best outlet for these particular characters, as well.

Zett makes the price sting quite a bit for me. Bleh.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Darth Broem on December 21, 2005, 10:37 PM
In the end you basically have to pay $10 each for these 4 figures.  I don't know whether to get this or not.  It's not like I really, really want this.  But it will nag at me if I don't get them.  Eh, I don't know.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Rob on December 21, 2005, 11:04 PM
I'm actually mildly impressed with the set.  After the Sacul crap I was convinced this would be junk but at least it's 3 new figures and they're obscure characters and I could care less whether they're Lucas and family - as long as they were actually IN the movies.

The price tag is a bit much, but it's cheaper (per figure) than the Target 12.99'ers.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Darby on December 21, 2005, 11:05 PM
The figs themselves look really good, especially Chi, who looks like they just shrunk her down right out of the film.  The price holds me up right now, though.  If I had more cash to spend on figs, I would definitely get it.

MetalJedi - I can see why $35.00 seems high - don't get me wrong, I think the price is too high.  But for all new sculpts, the diorama builder and the customizer in me is drooling.  I'll turn the Zetts into Anakin fodder for the Temple Slaughter.

Well not a surprise to get these for anyone, but they do look nice to me...  Lots of detail.  4 sorta boring figures we'd not likely have gotten otherwise and the Zett looks different to me than the basic figure...  The legs look less posed, I hope that's the case.  I like dull figures like this sometimes, and as an exclusive it's cool, the price is a bit much to take but one set won't be death...  They'll come to close to $10 per figure though, that sucks no matter how you slice it, but at least they're new (mostly).

Stupid question, but since they ship in April do they charge the credit card in April or now (sorry, haven't paid attention in the past)?  I am still unsure about these. Part of me wants them for nostalgia, part becasue they are minor characters, and part of me says they are a waste. Price is not the factor since if I decide I want them, I'll buy them.
So, can anyone help me with the inital question?

Man, that's over $8 a figure on top of outlandish shipping charges.  Gonna have to think about this one...

Well, unfortunately I think that the $8-10 per figure is going to be the standard for these box sets now when they are on-line exclusives...

That's the way it's been for the EE sets - it's too bad though that there is no "bulk purchase" option for these like the EE sets have offered.   :-\

I guess since the basic figures are moving to a $6-7 price point, we shouldn't be surprised at the cost.

With all that said, (even at the price of $40 each with the shipping) I ordered 2.   :-[

Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: speedermike on December 22, 2005, 03:13 PM
In  all honesty, they could have charged a lot more for this set.  Considering they charge about 14.00 for repaints, 3 all new sculpts plus one old figure could have been close to 50.00.  I think the price point is right on the money, really.  I don't mind paying 8.00-10.00 bucks for an obscure  figure that I know would never come out on a card

I ordered a set. I like them as background characters, and Lucas is a cool novelty.

But now that's 3 figures I didn't need to buy in the ROTS line: Obi-Wan, Bail and Zett. I'm tired of the double-dipping and I intend to return Bail and Zett in someone elses' packages. :P My receipts for those are too old to retrun. Let 'em send that junk back to Hasbro so they can choke on it.

Seeing the 3 new figures in this set gives me hope that Hasbro will make some more exclusive boxed sets.  Imagine a McQuarrie Concept Figure Boxed Set with Vader, Chewie, R2 and a repackaged Concept Stormtrooper.  That would be nuts.

Post by: Jesse James on December 23, 2005, 12:44 AM
Yeah I do like seeing NEW stuff sold as exclusives...  That's a plus.  I'd dig that McQuarrie set a lot myself as I think it's the best way to offer concept figures.  The Stormie sold well but I think that's a bit of a fluke honestly.  I love the concept stuff but I think Vader and the like would sit on the pegs if it got shipped as heavily as other new figures do.

Really?  To me these are awesome.  I see excellent figures for a Coruscant diorama and great for custom fodder too.  The one daughter (not the chubby blue one) could make for an excellent base for a Naboo Queen, and the other daughter has a lot of customizing potential too.  I can alreade see the Lucas as a great base for an Imperial Governor custom.  And Zett... maybe a couple more Padawan kids.  Heck, I might order 2 more of these sets.

Yeah, the 3 new, 1 old works for me if it means getting super obscure stuff.  Imagine the McQuarrie Trooper with Concept Vader, Concept Chewie and Concept Luke.

I would go absolutely friggin' nuts if something like that was relased.
Title: Re: Ultimate Lucas Collection
Post by: Jesse James on April 12, 2006, 04:56 PM
I'm ok with it too overall but the price is iffy...  That's what gets me the most.

Still, obscurity means you don't generally want much more than one of each depending on your collecting habits.  So the price is a little easier to swallow because of that...  If the set was $30 even though, it'd be much better IMO, and I'd likely kick in for a second one.

Anyways, I'm glad the images are being scoured over by our readers.  The packaging on that is pretty spiffy actually, and something different.

SHAME THE BLACK STORMTROOPERS WERE NOT SHIPPING EARLIER TO COMBINE IT WITH THIS SET.

I KNOW ITS MEAN, BUT I CANT HELP IT, THE PHOTO OF THE OTHER DAUGHTER IS SO PIG LIKE.

I recevied mine today and as I have come to expect with Starwarsshop.com one of boxes of the two I ordered was bent on one side due to the lack of Packaging materials.  You think they would be wise now to ship items better then what they are doing now.
As I want the lower price put on my Credit Card.  I look on my invoice and it has them listed at $34.99.  SWS better give as the price adjustment.

I once made a custom Ep1 figure of the character Diva Funquita (played by George Lucas' daughter, Tyger).  I used the body from a Gammorrean Guard figure and coupled it with the head of an Aayla figure.  It came out real nice.  Very good representation, especially the body.

The cane is cool, and it's the kind of thing that lets you know there are some fans working, at least in the sculpt area, on these figures...  :)  That's neat.

The price didn't bother me as much because of these being new figures...  I can certainly choke down $30+ on 3 new figures and a repack, all kind of obscure and uninteresting ones too but ones collectors like having, as opposed to $15 repainted Clones or Grievous with snap-on crap.

Those are the exclusives you feel jipped on.  I even like the item, just hate the pricing there.

I may have mentioned it, but one thing I did notice about the cane is they actually used an appropriately sturdy plastic for it instead of the gummy garbage they've favored for some time. Guess I didn't pay as much attention when I got Sun Fac, but someone mentioned his staff is also rigid. Hope this is a reversal of the cheap-out trend they started with the floppy weapons.

For whatever reason, I love it when they make the boring figures...  They're usually NEW figures that haven't been made before and probably are less likely to be made anyway.

Then again, the IMP Dignitary was my favorite as a little kid.

My only regret with this set is that for 40 bucks it dosent come wiht a new sculpt of Jett.

I personally think they could have done a better version to begin with, i mean, for G-sake its the creator's son.

Besides that, the other figures are a welcomed addition to those figures that normally would never be made.

That thing's been ten bucks there for months now. I'm surprised they have any left.

At least I got mine for the initial markdown price, but it's looking like that was $25 too much.  Ouch. :-\

I got mine today, too.  $5 is a fair deal, especially since I never saw Zett in stores.  The packaging is goofy, but I like it.  Nabbed a concept Grievous to go along with it, so I made out pretty nice.
