I guess 7 is the lucky number. Werth, Crawford and (supposedly) Lee all getting enormous 7-year deals. Crazy. Lee might be the only one worth the money, but 7 years for a pitcher is risky business. The Werth deal was the craziest. The BoSox seem a little panicky, though. The Nats just seem desperate...almost Mets-like. Can't wait for the season to see where it all leads.

Giants win! Giants win! Giants win!

Too bad the rest of the nation, outside of California and Texas, didn't witness history. The Giants are absolutely stacked with home-grown pitching talent, plus a catcher with unlimited potential. These are kids, and they're just beginning to come into their own.

Giants are World Series Champions. A lifetime of waiting is finally at an end.

In my department at work (editorial), one of my colleagues has "Metaphors be with you." on her white board. Geeky and nerdy!

My absolute favorite character. I haven't seen the Spacetrooper in person, so I can't really give an informed opinion of my favorite; however, by the pic alone of the Spacetrooper and 30AC, I'd go with the 30AC as my favorite. And I'm not exactly sure why. It's gotta be the helmet, since that's the difference.

I remember when they first came out with Commtech Stormie. I just about **** myself I was so excited.

Purely because of nostalgia, nothing will ever match the vintage sculpt.

I, too, find tinsel distracting.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rob. I have never understood the fascination with Napoleon Dynamite. I, however, didn't have the option to turn it off, but instead had to leave the room after 30 or so minutes. I opted to watch paint dry instead.

I've never walked out of a theater, but would have if I could during the inane Drew Barrymore vehicle Driving in Cars with Boys. Ugh, that was awful. I should've totally known what to expect (and I probably did), but my girlfriend at the time really wanted to see it, and...well, you gotta do what you gotta do.

As for rentals, I've slept through too many to count. The last ones to put me to sleep were Synecdoche, New York and The Dark Knight. At least I'm consistent, since I snoozed during Batman Begins, too.

So, last Friday night there was a NL West game between the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. Other than those markets, probably not many tuned in to watch; however, it was significant because the Giants' Jonathan Sanchez threw San Francisco's first no-hitter in 33 years. It was also significant because Sanchez was making a spot start since being demoted from the rotation after posting a 2-8 record and 5.30 ERA during the first half. In 50 games started over the last four years, he'd never had even a shutout, let alone gone nine innings. And what makes the story all the more remarkable, is that his father flew in from Puerto Rico to see his son pitch a MLB game...for the first time.

I'll admit that I was watching the game last Friday, but after the fourth inning, opted to stick in a NetFlix. I'm kicking myself now. After the movie ended, I switched to the game and was probably 15 minutes late for the last pitch. I'd missed it all live but for the next hour and a half, I soaked in all the relived drama and interviews I could.

Last night, they replayed the game in its entirety and it was awesome. His pitches were electric and his curve was filthy. If not for an eighth-inning error, it would have been a perfect game. But to me, after waiting 33+ years to see my Giants throw a no-no, it was perfect. This is why baseball is special. Awesome, just awesome.

And I'll admit that I was riding that train pretty hard for the Giants to trade Sanchez to get a bat, any bat, but now I think they should at least keep him to see what happens. Will he regress or will he maintain what he learned during his demotion? Hopefully he'll be better and the Giants will have a starting three to rival all others. But if it doesn't work out and he regresses to his career 5 ERA, at least he gave us Giants fans a game to remember. 

Absolutely digging the weather here this summer. Highs have been upper 70s to low 80s, with lows in the upper 50s. Yeah, a couple of 90s are peppered in, but for the most part extremely mild and enjoyable. Every time I think about moving elsewhere I remind myself about the weather here.
