and believe it or not, I'm happy.

Maybe it's just the shock, but I think it's the best day of my life.

I was going to quit soon anyway, this just means I can collect unemployment.  :)

Unfortunately, it pretty much means the end of my collecting days, at least until I get a new job.

I'm so glad to be out of there. I hated that job with a passion, and this will be the thing that kicks me in the ass and brings much-needed change to my life.

I know I promised to buy things from jadesfire, Famine, and other people, and I apologize, but I'll not be able to buy these things. And Morgbug- I won't be able to buy those 12" figures you asked me about.  :(

Thanks for letting me vent.

The Prequel Trilogy / ROTS news article thread
« on: April 23, 2005, 04:01 AM »
I haven't seen one of these yet, and I figured it would be a good place to show everyone the press this flick is getting.

I'll start with this one from Yahoo:

Other Toy Lines / Sin City

Anybody else buying these?

Over the last three days, I've acquired a set of them. I opted for the color versions, since the b&w ones looked a little funny, plus they wouldn't jibe too well with everything else in my collection.

I got the hair-down version of Nancy, because I haven't located the wind-blown-hair version in color yet.
I also bought the smiling Yellow Bastard, since he looked more evil.

Plus, there's a Wizard exclusive of Marv that doesn't have bandages on his face. He comes in color only. I'd order one, but I've had nothing but bad experiences with Wizard/Toyfare exclusives. So bad, in fact, I've never received any that I've ordered.

Wizard linky.

I'll probably just go ahead and order it and see what happens.

Revenge of the Sith / RotS Figure Impressions?
« on: April 2, 2005, 03:24 AM »
What do you think of the figures you bought?

So far I've only opened Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, and Grievous, and I'm actually having a blast with these action features I so professed to hate.

I think that by making the features activated by squeezing legs makes these far more enjoyable.

Anyway, I gotta open the rest of my stuff.

Thoughts?

Watto's Junk Yard / Child prodigy kills himself
« on: March 19, 2005, 07:39 PM »
Damn.

14 years old. And he blows his own head off.

Say what you will about an IQ of 178, but smart people don't die with guns in their mouths.

Maybe the fact that he was a prodigy is what made him do it. Maybe he was lonely and isolated, since it looks like he never stayed around the same classmates for very long. He probably just couldn't be a kid.

Watto's Junk Yard / Collectors in Iowa over 21, PLEASE READ.
« on: February 28, 2005, 12:34 AM »
I'm interested in knowing how many of you would be interested in a small gathering after Midnight Madness at a bar near the W'loo Wal-Mart. I'm thinking of going to AJ's afterwards, though I'm open to other suggestions. (We could go to one of the gentlemen's clubs, but I wager we'll be blowing enough on toys. :) )

I don't know if party rooms will be open that late, so we could gather there before instead around 7 PM to get more drinking time, not to mention meeting more folks.

We could also gather at the CF Wal-Mart, though I kind of want to avoid all the bars the college kids are at. But it's still open for suggestion.

I'd also love to see those without 24-hour WMs come here too. Any collectors are welcome to come.

I also think we could gather for the movie release as well.

What do you think? I'd really like to meet other collectors in this state, and I think this would be a great way to do it. Plus it's a little more intimate than C3.

Watto's Junk Yard / **** UPN- 'Enterprise' cancelled.
« on: February 3, 2005, 02:52 AM »
'Enterprise' cancelled.

So the show finally starts to get a little better, and Moonves pulls the plug.

It's too bad they're killing it instead of letting it thrive in syndication. UPN didn't arrive here until a few months ago, and I'm sure other markets don't even have it at all.
And Enterprise didn't even reach the magical 100 episodes needed for syndication. (Only 98 at the end of the season.)
I guess the show just doesn't fit in with dreck like 'Kevin Hill'.

Anyway, **** UPN. I expect a bigger fan backlash than what happened to 'Angel' when that got canned. Or maybe no one cares after all.

Watto's Junk Yard / Bonnaroo. Anyone going?
« on: January 28, 2005, 09:54 PM »
2005 Bonnaroo Festival

Tickets go on sale tomorrow. I went two years ago, and got so ****** up I can barely remember it.

Great bands are playing. I might cough up the $150 if Ben Harper plays the festival, but I think I'd pay that just to see Jack Johnson and Modest Mouse.

Anyone else been there/going this year?

Watto's Junk Yard / Roommates suck.
« on: January 28, 2005, 03:50 AM »
I decided to do dishes tonight instead of tomorrow morning. I'm going about the routine when I get to the pan that's been sitting on the stove for a day. Granted, I shouldn't have left it there, but I've been lazy.
So I open the lid, and this overpowering stench of rotten food nearly makes me toss my cookies. I don't know what the hell my idiot roommate was cooking, but it's rotten and cooked to the bottom of my ******* pan that I paid good money for.  >:( KILL!

So now the pan is sitting in my sink soaking while I have three scented candles going trying to clear up the stench. And my dumb bitch roommate is going to get the bitch session of a lifetime when I see her next. >:(

How about you? Can you top my horror story of stupid-ass roommates?

Watto's Junk Yard / Urban exploration

Urbex

This kinda looks like fun. There's quite a few  run-down, yet ornate old houses and buildings around here I'd like to tour.

I get a sort of creeped-out feeling looking at all these old hospitals and asylums. Add to it that these in the link are all from Great Britain, and that creepiness just grows. Not due to the people, but mostly from the Victorian era and its attitudes and architecture.

I don't think this is totally Victorian, but...

The Prequel Trilogy / Is this for real?
« on: September 20, 2004, 07:53 PM »

The IMDB reports that Gary Oldman has pulled out of the next "Star Wars" movie because he refuses to work overseas illegally.

The "Harry Potter" star had agreed to voice the evil CG robot Jedi knight killer General Grievous in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith", but recently quit the production because it was made outside the Screen Actor's Guild rules.

Oldman's spokesman explained - "Gary was excited and looking forward to working on the film. The snag is that the movie is being made without members of the Screen Actor's Guild. It means Gary would have been working illegally overseas. Out of respect and solidarity with the other members, he could not and would not consider violating the rules of his union".

No word as yet on a potential replacement.

------------------
I'm thinking the voice work would already be done, or maybe that they'd do the voice at Skywalker Ranch or something.

Unless, of course, Oldman is not a US citizen and can't work after all.

Watto's Junk Yard / I just got a stack of old Marvels...
« on: August 17, 2004, 10:21 PM »
A friend of mine just dropped off a bunch of comics here. I'm pretty stoked about it, even though none of them are really worth anything and they smell like a musty basement, plus they haven't been stored with backer boards.

There's a 1994 reprint of X-Men #1 from 1963.
Jim Lee's X-Men #1 from 1991, which I already have two copies of, but, eh.
Uncanny X-Men Annual #17
Uncanny X-Men #'s 173 (old!), 329
The Adventures of Superman #500, that whole Back From the Dead thing
X-Factor #'s 72, 74

Now, for the really weird stuff that knocked my socks off.
RoboCop #'s 4, 5. Didn't even know Marvel printed it.
Positively ancient (they're from 1977, so they're older than me ;)) Marvel Godzilla comics. #'s 2, 6, 10, 12, 13
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III movie adaptation

My favorite part, though, is Bucky O'Hare #1 from 1991. Wild, wild stuff, man. Larry Hama wrote it.

Anyone else ever have any finds like this?

Monkey starts walking like a human

From http://www.ananova.com

A monkey at an Israeli zoo started walking like a human after recovering from a serious illness.

Natasha, a five-year-old macaque at the Safari Park, near Tel Aviv, now walks exclusively on her hind legs.

She almost died of a severe stomach flu but suddenly stabilised and was released from the zoo's clinic.

Workers at the zoo say that's when she started walking upright exclusively, reports CBC News.

Monkeys usually alternate between upright walking and moving on all fours.

A zoo veterinarian says he's not sure why she has altered her behaviour but says the illness could have caused brain damage.

Other than walking upright, the vet says Natasha's behaviour has returned to normal.

Weird, huh? I find it odd that brain damage caused this.

Though, I guess, it's not the first time it's happened...

The Original Trilogy / Star Wars OT VCD
« on: July 6, 2004, 10:18 PM »
I found this auction on ebay. The seller's description seems to indicate it's the original version of the OT, but the packaging art tells me otherwise.

So I ask you folks here: Is it the original version, or the Special Edition?

Thanks,
Ben
