Hey there,

You are the master of the undead. You'r like the George Romero of custom action figures. This has got to be the most ingenous cross over ever. Each one you come up with has got me in awe. I do have one request, could you come up with a zombie ewok? That would be so cool. You may want to think about start doing alien undead. Since most of the aliens that inhabit the Star Wars universe are biped huminoids, you could do, for example, a rodian or barada. If you do not sculpt well,  I could make the alien skulls and you could do the rest. Just a thought. Can't wait to see the next one.

Smartypants,

I took a look at that alien head of Anoo-dat-prime's picture and wow! This guy looks awesome! You can do this, trust your feelings, use the power of the sculpt. Go smarty, go smarty...ect.

Good luck and keep us posted,

Hey hemble,

I love these!!! I love these!!! I LOVE THESE!!!

Your attention to detail is astounding. I love the mud detail on the jawa's cloak. I had to go and get the figure off the shelf and compare. You managed to bring out details that I did not know or took for granted. Amazing! It is always the subtle changes that really bring out the design. The Gonk really feels worn out and weathered down and extremely aged. And that antenna accessory from OOM-9 looks like it has always been there or at least should be. Awesome job.

Hey look, its Clone Commander Custer's last stand ;D.  (A bit of American History Humor, I could not help myself ;D) Another fine example of what you could accomplish with basic weathering and foliage strategically placed. Very well done.

Hey everyone,

I just finished my entry this morning. I made a mold of the head and made a cast of it. I just now finnished the finnal paint job on her. I did take into consideration of painting the body a diffrent color, but when I put the head on and painted her, she looked perfect to me. So her she is...Senator Toona Solbar the Minbari representative to the Republic Senate.

Here is a close up of the head sculpt and paint job.

I hope everyone will enjoy ;D.

Hello everyone,

I want to take this time and reply to the nice comments everyone has left me.

Glassman6:  Thank you for your comments. I do love a good challenge. It helps to sharpen ones skills and force you to do something new and different. I know it is really a lot of work to sculpt an entire figure from scratch instead of just slapping on some sculpty parts on an existing figure, but the satisfaction you get when you step back and say "I made this!".  Then the next thing you say, "OK, what’s next." That to me is the gratification from this hobby. I think it is no more different than the what the garage kit model makers must feel when they make their statues and sell them for hundreds of dollars each ;D. I have done a Resident Evil line for a small toy company here in Statesboro. Unfortunately, they did not get the license. I will post pictures soon. In addition, I will post the figures that I made over the years to show the progression of my skills. I have to warn you, some are down right hideous ;).

Chewie: Thank for the input on the pod racers. I think Hasbro dropped the ball on these. I had a lot of fun making them. It reminds me of how ILM would have made the models for the film, kit bashed and all. As soon as Hasbro announces the pod racer two pack this year, you know I will already drawing up new vehicle plans for their pod racers. ;D

Jesse James: Thanks for the kind words. I always liked the idea of cross media toy production. It kind of goes back to the day when I used to play with my Star Wars toys and my Battlestar Galactica figures. I think if you design your toys to match a popular line, then the chances of your toys will sell are better if you do not match the format. I wish I sill have my Battlestar figures :-[. The Tantive IV is not finished yet. It is over 3 1/2 feet long. It is big, but manageable, like the queen ship form episode 1.

Darth_Ennis: Thanks for the kind comments. I loved the over the top production design of the aliens. I never got to see the series as a hole, but from what shows I did see, I did like them enough for me to take interest. After Episode 1 came out, I thought these heads would make great senators or just back ground characters.

BrentS: Thanks for the comments. You know, I started out doing the same thing you all are doing, but with vintage figures. It was only natural that I progress to sculpting complete figures. You can too. With research and experimentation, you will advance your skills. As for the monstermaker clay, there is no curing involved. This clay is a wax/ oil base clay. It has the reverse properties of that of super sculpty. The colder it is, the harder it is, and vise versa. The point of this clay is to make a model and then make a mold of it to be replaced with some other medium (wax, plastic, ect...)

Thanks everyone for stopping by and I hope to continue to inspire and amaze you all in the future.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: sp1635s customs updated 3/23/06

Hi there Smartypants1635,

I checked out your custom works today. You have a nice selection going there. I made a list of some of the figures and here are my comments:

I like the paint schemes you came up with for your clones. I am not big on clones modifications, you have some good ideas. The red trooper with the guns mounted on the front, from particle experience with the military, a trooper would not want to have the side arms directly in front of his chest. The armor is to bulky to get access to them and if a round should hit the chest, the guns would go off and do more damage. Just my opinion.

The snake jedi - very interesting design and nice paint job.

Black and Red Grevious - again nice paint scheme and application.

Black and Gold Droid - interesting concept. The head looks a little out of proportion to the body.

Merc Dug - I love this design, one of your best. I really like the green and orange with the silver costume. The texture for the face disfigurement looks awesome. Great job.

MCC Sith Lord Grisgo - interesting design. I am not a big fan of soft goods, but in this case, it works ok here. Now if I could turn you to the sculpting side, This figure could standout with sculpted detail. Just my two cents.

The Human Mechanic - Another fine piece of work here. I like the use of accessories (The pit droid had me rolling). The paint job is dirty, the figure looks used and abused which brings a sense of realism to the character.

Over all, I see your skills are progressing and it shows in your work. You are not afraid to experiment and take chances with your designs. Keep it up.

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Admiral Screed
« on: March 24, 2006, 10:35 AM »
Hi there,

Your Admiral Screed looks good. I like the color scheme. The detail on the eye patch and other accessories are well done. I would recommend that instead of using rubberbands, start looking at styrene sheets. Rubber will deteriate overtime and will ruin your custom. You can cut styrene sheets to any length and thickness and it can be heated up to be shaped to fit. I just hate to see such great work lost due to chemical breakdown of rubber. As for the hat, it seems a bit big for the head you used. I would recommend that you fill the head with super sculpty and boil it so the hat looks like it fits. The other option is to fiind a imperial hat that does match the head size, like any of the POTF2 lines in the mid to late '90s. There  are folks out there including myself that casted a few of those hats. One more thing before I go, check out my friend, sith_fire30,  Admiral Screed. He did a simular version like yours.

Hi everyone,

I am back with the finnal sculpt of my Senator with the Babylon 5 head. I am calling her Senator Toona Solbar (thanks Chewie ;D). Next stop, molding.  I am not going to do a wax sculpt of her, because the head turned out ok, and second, i do not have any wax at the moment ;D.  Since this is my first entery here on this forum, how do I get the finnal pic posted for submission. Who do I need to send it to?

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

I had posted a pictures of whats left of my Farscape figures I made back in 1999 as well as some alien heads over at the March MCC. Here are some more detailed pictures of the Farscape figures as well as another look at the alien heads. They did not survive the move to Statesboro. Most of them were not able to be salvaged, so they were lost to me. Those that did make it, I had started to mend them and until I got sidetracked at work and they were abandon until now. Now that I am a better sculptor and have better supplies and tools, I will revisit the line again.

Until the next posting,

Thanks Chewie for the compliment. I love some of the names you posted. I have not chosen one yet. As for the color of the body, I have to be honest with you, I was not planning on painting it. I just did not put that much thought to it yet. I was more focus on the sculpting of the head at the moment. And if you like the head now, wait until I finnish the sculpt ;D.

I was diging around some of my old custom bins and found some unfinnished heads. They consist of three Babylon 5 aliens, and two Farscape aliens.

Also I found whats left of my Farscape figures I sculpted back in 1999. Unfortunatly, most of the figures did not survive the move and were completly lost to me. These are the only ones left. I did start to fix Pilot before I got sidetracked at work. I want to go back to these and start over now that I am a better sculptor and have better supplies. I do want to point out that even though Super Sculpty is easy to work with, it does have its set backs as you see in the pictures. Because of this tragidy, I now sculpt in wax clay and persue the process of wax and plastic castings.

I hope this will inspire the rest you and maybe give you some ideas as well. I really look forward to seeing everyones attempt this month.

Hi everyone,

I have seen everyone’s project entries for the various topics and I am impressed. I wanted to participate this month. I do not have much of custom fodder since I mostly sculpt my figures, but I did pick up a Mon Mothma for $.75 at Wal-mart in January. Since the head just pops off, I thought I could use one of my sculpted alien heads I did in Super Sculpty some time ago. It turned out to be to small it to be hollowed out and snapped on the neck post. So I started a new sculpt with my monster maker clay (www.monstermakers.com). This what I decided to come up with...

It is the female alien delegate from Babylon 5. I always loved to make other alien species creatures for the 3 3/4 inch (1:19 scale). I hope to have her finished this weekend and make a mold of her head so I can have a resin cast and paint it. I would love to hear from you on what you think of her and maybe have some fun and give her a name.

Until next posting,

Star Wars Ships and Vehicles / Re: Star Wars Model Kits
« on: March 22, 2006, 12:37 AM »
Hi there,

I never throw out anything. My wife and I go to flee markets and find all kinds of stuff, including old model kits. When I made my pod racers, I used model kit frames, Crayola marker shells, plastic Coke bottles a loose and incomplete Sabulba pod racer, $1 store submarine toy, ect... anything that would make since when put together. As said in the old school house rock show said, "Necessity is the mother of Invention" ( and what’s in the pocket book ;D).

Hi there,

There is another option you can take. You could make a cast of the Luke head. Make a silicon mold of the head first, then pour some resin into the mold. Before the the resin sets, insert the Obi Wan neck post into the mold and hold it place until the resin sets. Its like making a popcicle or a lollypop. It is a bit safer than messing with xacto blades or rotoray tools. Just my two cents.
