Twice as powerful as the xbox360, and very sleek.   ;D

Now that's neat.

The article said this machine would use Blu-ray discs. The future is now. :D

What I'm most stunned by in the article is that the console will have dual video outputs.  So you will be able to hook it up to TWO side-by-side HDTVs, resulting in a 32x9 video screen.  That's just freakin' unbelievable.  Granted, plonking down the money for a pair of matching HDTVs might be daunting... but just the fact that it has that capability is awe-inspiring.

I might consider buying one of these since it's compatible with earlier Playstation games. Plus the HDTV thing. My brother works at Best Buy and gets stuff for like 5% over cost. And since the margin on all TVs is grossly high, I could get one for pretty reasonable.

The only stopping me is employment, or lack thereof.  :-\

Woah... check that.

The PS3 will offer dual HD output AT 1080p... HIGHER resolution than standard 720p HD.  And 1080p will be the standard resolution for all games.

I'm just speechless...

The xbox360, by comparison, only offers 720p or 1080i resolutions.

The only problem is that by the time a television displaying at 1080p is available at an affordable price the PS4 will be making its debut. Don't get me wrong, I'll definately be buying a PS3 along with a Xbox360 but the whole dual HDTV screen and 1080p thing will be pretty useless for this generation of consoles.

Somehow, I'm thinking people will be more impressed with the 360 and its THREE IBM PowerPC cores, running at 3.2 Ghz each, as well as 1 MB L2  cache.

Here's a comparison of the CPUs...

Don't even get me started on the graphic cards...  ;)

I just hope the Cell lives up to it's hype and not crap out like the PS2's "emotion engine". Remember that propaganda? I seem to remember Sony touting that as a super computer on a chip so powerful that its importation into certain countries had to be restricted for nation security reasons, yada yada yada yip yip hurray.  ???

The system design is poor, but the specs sound amazing. I'm not really into the whole video game thing either way, but I look forward to the X-Box 2 VS PS3 wars.

Samsung just realesed a 1080p HD television I have the previous generation 50" Samsung DLP. Most companies don't even have the capacity for full 1080p. it great that it's that forward thinking, but most HD television(at least affordable to the common public) will use either 1080i or 720p either way it will still be amazing.

The Cell technology has come underfire for being a iffy technology. I would suspect first generation problems. This sounds like Hyundai all over again  over stating horsepower.

Sweet!
Ultimately, the quality of the games will make or break the system, but it's nice to see these kinds of specs ... especially after the new Xbox's specs failed to knock my socks off.

Nintendo's next system also looks pretty sweet.
I can't wait.

Revolution (http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/615/615030/imgs_1.html)

Looks odd, but sounds great. I hear you can play every Nintendo game ever made on it. Yes, even NES games. Sucks since I don't have mine anymore. >:(

PS3 is amazing, I don't like the look of the controller though. I'll definately be getting one when it comes out.

Where do you plug in the cartridges?  ;)

Good question Bill.

Although all these consoles are impressive.  I really have no desire to own them.  How long has the X-Box and PS2 been on the market?  And now you have to purchase a whole new system?  Granted, the $300 or so you spend on a console is far cheaper than spending $1,500 to $2,000 on a new PC, but I still can't justify purchasing a new console when I have a kickass desktop and laptop to work with.

I'm not knocking consoles at all....they're just not for me.

I read somewhere that the entire Nintendo library will be downloadable.  No cartridges needed!  Pretty crazy.  I might just need to get a Revolution just so I can play Mike Tyson's Punch-Out again.  Little Mac RULES!!

At the Nintendo press conference they did say that indeed the entire Nintendo library from the NES to the N64 will be available for download. I must say that's a brilliant move by Nintendo. I just wonder what the pricing will be.

That might have sold me on a Revolution, sounds like its almost like iTunes/iPod like in the fact that you can download/access games through their servers

I really love that idea and its something a long time coming.

It is a really cool idea.  I remember wasting hundreds of hours playing Tetris Attack at my fraternity house in college.  If they offered on-line multiplayer for that... I mean wow.  Nothing would be more fun that playing that with my Brothers again.   ;D  Ooooo... and Bomberman!

Oh yeah, Nintendo just through a massive uppercut.  If that holds true I'm all about it.  I'm really torn since I generally only get one system to start and if I'm able to down the road, I'll buy another.

Not sure what I'll likely do...  At least there's time.

I think Sony has lost some credibility now that it's been confirmed that the PS3 "game play" footage that they have been touting from E3 is really pre-rendered movies. It should be remembered that Sony did the same thing before the launch of the PS2. I think it was a little effort to steal some thunder from the Xbox360.

The Unreal demo and the Fight Night demo were explicitly described as rendered real-time, and demonstrated to be such.  The other stuff was a mix of prerendered and rendered.  They really didn't show much "game play" honestly.  What do you think was presented as game play footage that was really prerendered?

I think the xbox faithful are just grasping at straws.  Their presentation was so disappointing that they gotta try to find fault with others.
