Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Too Much Stuff?
« on: June 5, 2008, 08:14 PM »
I haven't been buying as much, partly because my DH does complain about it, and partly because it's very expensive and I feel that Hasbro has jerked us collectors around so much over the years.

Also, I'm frustrated, because when we bought this house in January, 2004, the large family room was supposed to be my Star Wars room. Four and a half years later, the tile is still stacked up in the corner, the walls are ripped down to the studs, my husband is using it as a workshop to complete a large project for a client, and his cat (the one that wants to kill me, plus he has feline leukemia so he can't be around our other cats) lives out there permanently now. So, I can't even go into my room to look at the toys that are boxed up out there. The dining room, bedroom and bedroom are filled with SW stuff. Our office, living room, bathroom and the cats' room all have SW stuff in there was well, so there's no room for anything else.

So anyway, the combination makes me think twice before buying anything new right now (although I still manage to pick up at least one toy or collectible a week, I think).

The new DW has always been kind of mixed. I think this is the weakest season overall. I am enjoying "Silence in the Library" but I agree that Stephen Moffatt has done better. I can't wait to see what happens next series, now that he's the head writer.

My husband is speculating that the Vader might be a bobblehead. In the photo it just looks like he has a really long goose neck.
The Tyderium is my favorite from this year, I think. I like the minis, too.
I picked up my Dreambook at the Hallmark store -- they are already taking ornament reservations from collectors.
Speaking of Trek, the Reliant has always been a popular ship; it'll probably go fast. The communicator is cool, too.

Here's a link to the page with the four Star Wars onaments that will be offered this year.

Link here

They have the Tyderium, the Emperor on his throne from ROTJ, Luke and Vader fighting in front of a Death Star window, and a mini set featuring the Death Star and a Star Destroyer.

There's also an Indiana Jones figure this year, in case your interest crosses to all things Lucasfilm.

edit - just fixed the broken link

I'm not real into the superdeformies or the bobbleheads, but I picked up Han Solo for the collection. If they ever come out with Queen Amidala/Padmé, I'll have to have that one, too.

Other Collectibles / Re: The "Official" Master Replicas Prop Thread
« on: December 25, 2007, 12:52 AM »
I'm having a Master Replicas Christmas. We opened stockings tonight and I received a Darth Vader laser pointer and Luke Skywalker/Anakin LED flashlight. I hadn't been keeping up with the new collectibles, I guess, so I didn't even know these were out. Tim paid $12.99 for the laser pointer and $5.99 for the flashlight on sale. I know I'm getting some sort of full-sized lightsaber, also from Radio Shack, but I'll see that in the morning.

Tim tried to find a Mace Windu saber for me, but couldn't find one anywhere, so he bought me a Yoda from Spencer's, $79.99 on sale. Got it home, wouldn't work. The blade didn't light up at all and the sound kind of cut in and out. Took it back and tried another one. That one the blade flashed on once, then immediately went dark and wouldn't light up again. Same sound issues, too. So, no Yoda saber for me. :(

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Prayers for my wife and I

I'm so sorry. I know this is so difficult for you both. I hope the prayers and positive thoughts that are coming your way are making a difference and helping you somehow. It will take a long time to get over this, but I hope you both will, and that you will have the child you want someday.

He's such a romantic. :)

I hope you're able to get something. I asked at a different P.O. branch Friday, and the counter lady there said she'd reserved it for herself the first day. Her son or grandson had been picked to go on some school trip and she was going to give it to him to auction off for a fundraiser. Unfortunately, I asked where the auction was going to be held and she said he went to school in Colorado. Now, how they're getting this thing from Florida to Colorado in time to auction it off May 25 (which is what she told me), I have no idea. It's all highly suspect and blows huge holes in the "we have to tear it up" theory.

Hey Madcow,

Is your dad able to get you any of the promotional standees or anything? I asked at my local post office, and the counter person says they are required to destroy the promotional items and send pieces back to prove it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Do You Have Pets?

I have nine cats.
Wicket, Trickster, Mah-mah, Indy, Misha, Presto, Missy, Remy, and Jynx.

My mom has some newborn kittens at her house if anyone's in the Pensacola area in about seven weeks and wants one. Or two. Or four.

I was so sorry to see the posts from people who have recently lost pets.
I lost three of my cats in 2005, one to a heart condition, one to old age, one to old age and kidney failure. And he wasn't a pet, but my dad died last week. So, I can truly sympathize on the loss of your loved ones, furry or not.

I used to buy popcorn and a soda, but now everything's just way too expensive. I usually sneak in a bottle of water. If I get free movie passes somehow, then I might buy a snack pack.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How often do you go to the Dentist?
« on: May 3, 2007, 12:51 AM »
When I was in third grade, the dentist decided I should have a couple of permanent teeth pulled because my mouth was too small. I was terrified. I had the shot and lay there in the chair, and when I came out, I opened my mouth and asked my mother how it looked, and she said that the dentist didn't pull my tooth; he decided it wasn't ready. Nice of someone to tell the patient!!  So, I refused to go back to the dentist for about 15 years, until my wisdom teeth insisted on being removed. A few years later, my husband convinced me to go get a cleaning, and then I had to go back for a couple of fillings. That was at least five years ago. I can't remember exactly.  But I always brush at least twice a day!!

It's so tough to translate these books to screen because they're so long. I've read all the books, so far, but my husband hasn't. I know what's going on when I'm watching and sometimes he doesn't.  I wish they could make mini-series and put everything on screen.

Can't wait for the next book!
