Title: Whats up with this auction?
Post by: DSJ™ on March 7, 2004, 01:43 PM
Have a looky.

Vintage Kenner Star Wars Die Cast TIE Fighter MOC 1978! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3178319607&category=2475&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1)

Now I got mine for a Bin of $15.99 just awhile back.

The one in the auction still has the punch tab, mine does not. It also has a crease going down the right side of the card, mine has one going from the punch to the right side at an angle. Same 21 back card as mine, infact exactly the same card.

My question is, is the prices of these diecasts going up or does the bidders really want it that bad?  $101.00  ???

I think it's that people just don't do their homework and they don't try shopping for it at a cheaper price.  Dale, you getting that for only $15 is an incredible steal though.  I've seen these go for up to $50 if they're carded and the card is in somewhat decent condition.

Dale,  like Chris said you got a steal at $15.00. As you know I am after landspeeders and some of the carded examples I have found have went for over $100.00 in great condition.     Average I would agree with Chris and say around $50-$60.   High grades like figs though really can soar with the prices. I saw one that was dead mint go for over $200.00

I presume he emailed for pics or at least I hope he did.  That's a bit of change for a sight unseen auction.

Indeed I did.  The 10th seemed to be quite a day for the loons and their BINs.  I didn't take the links, but there is one guy that has most of the figures up with BINs.  $175 for blue snaggletooth.   :o  There are worse examples as well.  I restrained myself on a $45 Imperial Gunner.

that seems like a case of someone just putting an extra 0 in their bid of $10.50, at least to me. but then again, i took at look at the first bid, and it was $100? unless people are being fooled by the "i didn't want to disturb his clothes to look at the date, but it's probably 1977" remark that she made. but even then, who would be so dumb to think that a character that wasn't created 'till 1980 could have an action figure created in 1977?

One of only 200 made.  Thursday.

Thursday's are always slow.  No one really understood why factory production was always down that day, but it was.  Monday would have been understandable, but 300 or more were made on Monday.  Friday would have made more sense too, but it always surpassed that magical mark as well.  Nope, Thursdays were the worst.  Only 200 made.

Those auctions make me weep.  I totally understand how they feel they've got gold on their hands, only to find out it's tin.  That's the point of research on ebay.  Don't set your sites too high and you may end up with some pleasant surprises instead of stupid ebay fees for stuff that doesn't sell.
