A Previews Exclusive! Includes an exclusive Hobbie Klivian figure and Fighter Deco! These TIE Fighters were used by Biggs Darklighter and his mutineers to escape the Rand Ecliptic. Low on fuel, the group returned to the Ecliptic only to find it had been taken over by a Rebel cell led by Hobbie Klivian. The TIEs were then refitted with hyperdrives, astromech sockets, and ejection seats for a mission to steal X-Wings from Incom. Finally, in a bold statement of defiance, these formerly Imperial fighters were emblazoned with the Rebel Alliance symbol! Bigg's pilots then ejected from the TIE Fighters - with the astromech droids piloting the ships on their own - a tactic that drew off Imperial TIE fighters on patrol around the system, allowing Darklighter and his team the proper distraction to gain entry to the Incom facility!
Product Number: HAS15497

Ugh... I have no desire to drop $55 on another TIE, but I'll probably have to track down Hobbie to go with the Evo TIE Pilot Biggs. :-\

Ditto...

I'm still on the fence about the current white one at TRU, but now this ???
Hasbro is really going to town with this mold. They must have gotten tired of repainting the Jedi Starfighter to death.
-
I like this version more than the White one. I did not open the white TRU one yet and think I will return it one because I would rather buy this instead. At least there is some real newness in there. All these new EU paint schemes are starting turning me off. I wish they would redeco the X-Wing with Red Leader, Grizz Frix or something along those lines to make it a more valuable addition to the collection.
-
Why does the large wing TIE fighter keep increasing in price? According to the description, the rebels retrofitted an astromech into the ship. Where is this astromech? Did they sculpt one in or is this just a lame repaint with no new detail?
-
Why does the large wing TIE fighter keep increasing in price?
Previews needs to make their margins which are higher than TRU, WM and Target. They are adding their cut. They probably have a 60% margin.
-
I agree. I really would like to get another TIE fighter with the long wings. But Target's was $40, Toys R Us is $45 I believe, and now this son of a #$%^& is $55? Why are the TIE's so high? Anyway, I would just want the figure. Maybe they will repack him someday?
-
Lame! Why would the Rebels paint their insignia on a stolen TIE? Way to be incognito there guys.
-
I believe they were basically decoys meant to anger the Imperials, but I digress...
Big pass for me. I still haven't picked up a big-wing TIE, but at 55 bucks I don't think this is in my price range at all for what it is. Hobbie is interesting and a great use of existing parts to get a good exclusive figure out there, but I only plan on having one TIE and this one obviously ain't gonna be it.

I agree, with all the script about modifying it for hyperspace and astromechs, it looks like a red splotch to me. Which I am pretty sure doesn't show up real well on long range scanning devices anyhow...
$55? Huh? This is going to be the cost of more than THREE basic ships at retail by the time you get done with shipping?
Yes it is unique. So was the straight latch R5-D4 back in 1996.
-
Okay, everyone, time to write in Hobbie's name for the Fan's choice Legends repack!!!
I passed on the white TIE, no way I'm paying that much for this TIE. Like the rest of you, I just want the figure.
had the large winged TIE originally been $30, I'd have bought at least 5. To date, it's only 1 gray and 1 blue. Hasbro (and their retail partners) priced themselves out of this one.
-
As always i just want the figure. ::)
-
I actually want the TIE... But at $55, I'm maybe just gonna pass. Disappointed, but pass nonetheless.
I want 2 AT-TE's... If they'd offer it for $30 or so, I'd be down for one and maybe even two so Biggs got one too. AT-TE's are more important to me in '08 though.
You guys with a Falcon boner are experiencing the same thing I am over the AT-TE. Every time I see it, I drool a little more.

If you (or anyone) seriously just wants the TIE, let me know. I (like just about everyone here) would like to get Hobbie, but no interest in a $55 TIE. Cripes, I wouldn't have room for it even if I did blow $55 + shipping. ::)
-
Sadly, I only want a 2nd without a pilot... At $55 though I think I've gotta pass overall. Two would be awesome so Biggs had a ship, but geesh... They're just way too much, even to get one with Hobbie.
-
As I look at my two shelves filled with various TIE's...this is an easy pass.
-
This is a little too far, even for me. I mean, I guess it's a cool concept, but one I'm not very interested in. Especially for the price.
-
I would get it if the price wasn't too high. I'll have to pass, but I do want the Hobbie packin.
-
Like many others, a pass from me as well - but I would like the figure. Hopefully he'll make his way into a Legends assortment in the future or something.
-
$55? By the time this shows up in Europe it's about 75 euro or up :o... that's a nono for me then.
And even with a Astromech it's just to much pay for so little in return.... ;)
The repaints of the jedi-starfighters where better..... ;D
-
I like the concept but the price totally bites. It's like 1/3 of the BMF that is my numero uno priority for 7/26... Gonna have to fly casual on this one.... 8)
-
I like the color of the vehicle itself, but wish they would yet again remake the wings at about 80% or so of this size. I prefer this newer sculpt over the POTF2/vintage one of course, but they upscaled the wings TOO much. As for the rebel insignia... well, I won't bore anyone with my perpetual feelings about EU ideas ::)
-
I returned my white TRU Tie Fighter today to justify me getting this one. I was never too sold on the vintage white concept to begin with, that's why I never opened it. While this is $15 more, at least there is a new figure. I am hoping they added the astromech, I think that would turn peoples opinions around on this(and sell me more on it too). I remember paying previews $65 for the Sandcrawler a few years ago. That was an overpriced toy but still one of my favorite releases of the modern line.
I hope this gets enough support to have future overpriced releases from previews. You never know what they have up their sleeves. They seem to be going after SW pretty damn hard this year. They might even start getting EE type sets.
-
but they upscaled the wings TOO much.
???
It's pretty spot-on DB... They sag, but I blame the cockpit ball more than the wings being too large... The ball's just not made for the weight. Compare it with a Fine Molds model sometime if you've got the chance to get ahold of one. I can't find my CD's from the last tour of LFL props or I'd post TIE pics. It's insanely accurate except the cockpit detailing.
-
That's definitely reassuring then, JJ. I remember thinking when I got the blue one that it looked too big, but chalked it up to being used to the POTF2 mold. But then I thought maybe some reference pics I saw soon after from the films sort of repeated that thought again. Maybe if we can find a good reference shot of a TIE next to a toy shot of similar size to compare.

Thanks!! See, I'm thinking they need to upscale the cockpit a little bit. Am I the only one seeing the size difference? Here's another couple for perusal:

That looks pretty spot-on to me DB...
If anything's maybe off, it's the diameter of the cockpit ball itself, but it's so old and Hasbro seems so content with it... I'd say it's a negligible difference too, personally. It doesn't look much different to me at all, but for the small details like the laser nub, and cockpit hinges, etc. Like I say, maybe a hair larger diameter? Not enough, to me anyway, to worry about... And I'm a stickler for this stuff generally.
I think more people are annoyed by the cockpit hatch hinges honestly, though I'm again not bothered by them myself... I see where folks come from on that issue though.
To be honest, the difference I see with the cockpit is more that the model is a hair more oblong than the toy... Which makes sense due to the way a pilot should sit (knees bent) in one. Again, I think the wings are spot-on accurate, and the cockpit ball maybe is off by the slightest of margins...
At this point though, they've retooled the cockpit ball so much that I highly doubt they start it from scratch to make it that slightly bit more oblong to accomodate a more natural sitting position for a human. I think the Kenner styled cockpit ball is here to stay... But the scale of the ship is right on itself, and lines up with the TIE Bomber, Interceptor, and Advanced x1 pretty perfectly. If the wings were 80% their current size, that would make the ship FX X-Wing scaled actually.
-
Hmmm. So this is $55 huh? IIRC the TRU exclusive TIE was $39.99. Both include pilots. I wonder if given the extra price we might also get some kind of a hyperdrive pack and/or astromech. That's what the product description mentions, and I read those issues of EMPIRE with the storyline that this TIE is derived from. That, plus Hobbie had a blaster rifle that he was using to snipe TIE fighters after ejecting from his TIE.
-
Like a lot of you, I need to score the pilot, but couldn't care less about the ship.
One more Hasbro hoop to jump through I guess...
-
It's a buck cheeper at Entertainment Earth if anyone cares.
-
I will order from EE but I will wait until there is something else to preorder. I wish they posted this when they posted the mystery pack could have saved on shipping. I hate when they do that.
-
You might be able to cancel your mystery pack order and put them together. Give 'em a call.
-
I did think of that but I am hesitant as you lose you order placement space. (I do not want to wait if these packs sell out) I appreciate the suggestion I may just do that since they still have all of the other exclusives still in stock. It also sounds like a lot of people did not order yet.
-
I didn't order yet and I'm not worried at all about a sell out. I don't think they ever did during pre-sale.
-
Tis' true maybe today I will cancel/reorder with the Tie.
-
Here's my question about this - why could THIS have been the version that just came out at TRU?!?! Why did we need a Clean White TIE, a Dirty White TIE and now a "Pirated" White TIE. It's getting ridiculous AND expensive.
-
It's ridiculous for me because of the size. It's a lot of space for an EU anything. I really wouldn't know how or where to display it.
-
Just got notification that mine shipped from EE.

What can I say? The word "sucker" is stamped on my forehead. :P
Got it opened it up. I'm sure if I had read the source material that I'd appreciate it more. I had always thought that at the very least, I'd have another TIE pilot, however, I never noticed the lack of imperial markings and the addition of rebel ones. Still, all in all, it's a nice set. Minus the rebels insignia on the wings, it's the best painted TIE thus far.

I must also have "Sucka" stamped on my head too. Mine should be here any day from EE, I'm glad to hear that the paint job is pretty nice. It's a shame they did not put the astomech slot on the back to make this really accurate to the comic.

The local comic shop that I bought that Power Rangers set at is having a 50% off sale.
It was the perfect time to pick up this Pirate TIE Fighter. Like a lot of you, I just was after the figure, so I'm going to be selling the TIE Fighter and hopefully making back all but $5 or so of what I spent.

They have any more for 50% off?
-
What did this go for originally?
-
$60 I believe.
-

I didn't see anymore, but I could ask.
By the time I ship it to you you're still probably looking at about $45 for it.

I'd be willing to have someone buy one at half off and just fork over $15 - $20 for the exclusive pilot if anyone's interested in that. I don't need yet another over sized TIE taking up space.
-
I had just about as much enthusiasm for this one as the power ranger set, but once in hand, I quite liked this one over all.

Thats still alot just for the figure. I hate pack-in exclusives.
-
So yeah... if anyone wants an extra TIE Fighter (no pilot) for $25 and shipping, let me know. It's still in the box, I just sliced the window open to take the pilot out.
-
I saw this for $60 and I left it. It's tough to rationalize spending that much on another TIE Fighter.

I'm seriously thinking about it. I can just paint over the rebel symbol.
-
Just let me know if you decide to take it. There's another guy who's been buying my pilotless vehicles, so he might get back to me, until he does it's up for grabs. 8)

This is on sale (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS36133) at Entertainment Earth right now for a decent price. I might actually snag one.

Even the Joker squad and Crimson Empire are slashed. I guess EE had a bad year with the Joker Squad because did anyone else notice that they have no exclusive this year.

I was thinking of picking up another if it went down in price, but with the new cockpit, I'll wait.
-
Thanks for the heads up Diddly. I might finally pull the trigger on this and the Joker Squad. The power rangers can still suck it.

THE HELL YOU SAY!

THE HELL YOU SAY!
Are you guys getting the Pyre?
I hope you have a EE exclusive this year, I supported your exclusives every year and always looked forward to them. In fact, outside of the Astromechs I bought several duplicates of all of them. Bring it on or give us a hint man! I am paying attention, no one else brought it up to my knowledge.
On a side commentary note: While I did like the Joker squad I will have to say it was the weakest of all the EE exclusives offered in my opinion thus far. Do not get me wrong, I liked it but not as much as the mandos & astros. (The Clones ruled but they are so 2005 & reissued to appreciate them like before). Outside of the clean cut backstreet boy heads those sets were near perfect! The Female Stormie & Maleval were sweet, the others became redundant. Accurate to the book but redundant.
Cannot wait to see what's on tap, maybe there are a few surprises left.
-
Are you guys getting the Pyre?
You've seen my opinions in that thread, right?
I do not know the status of this piece. At Comic-Con, most of the people I spoke to said they hated it (before I said anything one way or the other). Online after the fact, I see people on these boards seeing they like it. I'm not sure what Hasbro, being at their booth the whole time, got from their request for comments but I hope it was enough to help them make a decision which will benefit them and whatever partner(s) involved in a hypothetical release.

When we have something new to announce, I tend to go around and make sure people know. Don't worry, you didn't miss anything, nothing was announced.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. Can't win over all of the people all of the time, I suppose. Glad you dug most of them!
But back on topic, hey, cheapo TIE Fighter. I like the idea of a hijacked fighter but would've gone bonkers if it had the Wampa skull thing from the Pirates of Tarnoonga (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tarnoonga). The idea of "team A steals team B's vehicle, defaces it" is a clever idea for a repaint, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, plus it came from a comic some people liked. And if you're going to have like 5 big-wing TIEs, and they can't get the middle laser thing right on most of them, at least one has some nifty distinctive markings on it. It's a nice piece, particularly for $31.50.
-
It's a nice piece, particularly for $31.50.
Definitely. Me and a buddy went on on two and it came out to $72.45. Not too shabby considering it was an over-priced exclusive to begin with. Just a hair above $36 a piece after shipping.
-
Adam I saw your previous post but got excited for a second hoping you guys had a SW exclusive for this year. As I said I supported them and actually will miss it for this year. With the way things are going I cannot blame not taking the risk right now.
I am actually surprised fans did not dig the Pyre, that's the first I heard of that. Maybe we are a secluded bunch but fansite reaction seemed pretty positive. I hope it sees the light of day (while lighting up roaster the Sith)
If that pirate tie cam with Jan Tosh and the Droids I would buy it solely for them.
