Vintage Kenner / Re: AFA - Good or Bad?

I like the idea of having certain pieces authenticated.

I'd go to Tom Derby before I went to AFA though as AFA has been known to make mistakes on their labels.

Most of all, there have been figures that have broken through the bubbles or ripped off the cards, 21 back Fett, ESB small headed Han Solo.  You go from having a figure worth thousands to something worth dollars.

I also can't stand the AFA labels that are above the MOC and can be seen from across the room.  Are you a Star Wars collector or a label collector??  And those loose figure cases are ugly, not to mention the fact that people are sending in baggy and poor MOC figures to be opened, and the price realized usually isn't any greater than the going rate for the baggy/MOC.

My 2 ¢.

I still have mine from when I was a kid.

The problem is that the upper shell seems to have yellowed A LOT and gotten brittle. It has snapped in a couple of spots.

Anyone else experience this?

Ohhhhh yeah.

I won a boxed one in Hamilton that was shipped to Toronto.  It took hours to glue the pieces back together. :(  My one previous to that had a paperback book fall off a shelf onto the top.  Bye bye top section.

Definitely a cool piece and I would have appreciated it as a kid.  Now, it's just a big yellow fragile turd. ;)

Vintage Kenner / Re: hi-res scan of Desert Sail Skiff box

I thought I'd bump this up since we've been seeing more vintage collectors stop by.

I'm really surprised no one has taken the time to make scans of the box fronts, I would think there would be a market for desktop wallpapers or even posters.

There's copyright to worry about.
