I can think of about 6-8 other Margalits I've heard of in the U.S. who aren't related, but alas the last name is primarily found in Israel ... though in some Jewish Communities (Los Angeles, from what I've seen online, primarily. Of course, this might just be a misconception on my part...), Margalit ("ruby") is a semi-popular first name.
