I appreciate any customizer who gives deserved "face time" to any of the neglected aliens in the SW universe.  Dresselians are not my favs by far, but it seems like you took time and effort to make them unique and get rid of that darned eyepatch.  Good job!  As far as displaying/photographing them, I'd set up some colored background in the very least...the wall is very distracting.

Thanks.  That's not the completed diorama by any means though, that's just some of the completed figures.  The diorama is going to have trees, bushes, and the Dresselians popping out of holes and tunnels knocking of scored of stormies.

The head came from a mold of RS's Scoundrel, he used it in his Irofuci the Dresselian custom.  I got the heads from him, made the cloaks from microfiber towels and employed my Oral Surgery suturing technique, and scrounged up some well articulated bodies from other lines like GI Joe and World Peacekeepers.

I'll post the completed diorama in the coming weeks.

Don't mess with Dresselians  :D

With green clone seargents heading up a squad of 10 clonetroopers, 1 out of every 10 of your clones should have green stripes.

Hasbro has only released the green clone squatting in the 3 packs, not very good for army building.

My answer is the red clone captain repainted.

I used Utrecht Cadmium Green acrylic paint and a clear coat of varnish to make it shiny.

Nicely done!  I have heard many people just switching body parts among all those Clone Troopers, but your paint job looks great!

Pretty nice figure's overall Dressel, and more Jedi are always nice to see.  I think I like the Ithorian the best personally, though action poses aren't my cup of tea usually.

My one critique I'd make is to dirty up or alter the color of the Weequay's uniform, as it's very "clean" in the photos, and almost white looking.  Some variety in color there can set the outfit apart from being just an Obi-Wan body and make it look like more unique and such.  A dry brush over whatever color choices you make then will bring out the sculpting detail, which for a figure in 1999 or so was really quite nice.

Nice job Matt #27!  Aliens and Jedi are always cool in my book, so to slap 'em both together makes for some nice customs.

Judging by your customizing "recipe" here, I'd guess that these guys ain't articulated anymore, right?  Still cool nonethless...

And if you don't have an airbrush handy, like Jesse suggested, just take them outside and roll 'em around in the dirt a little.  That should do the trick!   :P

Keep 'em coming!   8)

Sup y'all

Sora Bulq is articulated at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, and hips.

Roran Corobb is articulated at the head, shoulders, wrists, and waist.  The decloaked  nikto jedi figure I used as a base was never articulated at the hips to begin with.

Everyone hug your Ithorians tonight.

I have about 50 customs right now, and I do have a new digital camera, but the software isn't compatible with my PC right now.  When I iron that small detail out, I'll post my customs.  I want a thread like Darth Delicious and CHEWIE !!!

I have about 20 different cloaked Dresselian commandos, most have head casts from Scoundrel in his hay day.
Tons of new EIII clone troopers including Neyo's legion, Coruscant shock troopers, Special Ops, Commander Bly
Jedi like Sora Bulq and Roronn Corobb
Lots of EII clones of all ranks

For now, we wait for software compatibility!

Hey all -

Thanks to my digicam and Famine (Dressel Jr.) hosting, I now have pics of my customs.

This thread will contain my customs - a large part of which will be Planet Dressel's guerrillas and dioramas, Dresselians fending off a stormtrooper invasion, custom clone troopers, aliens, senators, and a few other odds and ends.

Pics coming very shortly.

Great use of those KB soldier figures - I have a bunch and haven't figured out what to do with them yet ;)

Here's pretty much everything I know about Dresselians.  They were one of the few aliens to resist the Empire's invasion of their planet.  They couldn't beat the stormies one on one, so they took to guerrilla war, and wiped out legions of stormies.  They completely drove the Empire presence from their planet.  They do not use blasters, they prefer slug-firing weapons, they hate the technology that the stormtroopers brought to their planet.  This is why you see them here with AK-47's, M-16's, shotguns, rocket launchers and bazookas, and various other guns.  They are fiercely independent, and value freedom.  They rarely show up for their Senate votes.

Having said that, the ones you see with the facemasks were inspired by the Gondorians capture of Sam, Frodo, and Smeagol in LOTR.  The Gondorians in that scene look like that, with green cloaks, and black facemasks that cover their nose and mouth.  Loved that scene.

I have more Dresselians to take pictures of, and also some dioramas with some props and playsets of them mowing down VOTC stormies.  I'll send those to Kevin around Tuesday.  I envisioned Planet Dressel having a forest-like area, surrounding a Greek-Roman architecture like area, and these dioramas will show that.

Also, I have a lot of EII and EIII clone customs, aliens, senators, and jedi to take shots of. I made blue 501st clones, red coruscant clones, Commander Bly, Commander Cody, and Cody legion troops.  I also have X-Wing, B-Wing pilots and some other odds and ends, probably 50-60 customs in all that I never got around to taking pics of.

More coming soon!

(Thanks for the feedback so far)

Here's some information from EU sources too:

Dressellians were a tall, thin, humanoid species with elongated, hairless skulls, wrinkled skin, and teal colored blood. Dresselians evolved in the sub-equatorial grasslands of their homeworld Dressel's main continent, Breehara.

Two centuries before the Galactic Civil War, the Dressel system was discovered by Bothan scouts. At the time, the Bothan clan Askar decided to leave the low-tech natives of the planet Dressel alone, restricting their activities to mining the Dressellian asteroid belt.

This changed when the Galactic Empire took control of the system around 10 BBY. The Empire moved to set up bases on Dressel and exploit its natural resources. The Dressellians, despite having only loose political organization and barely industrial-level technology, began a resistance movement. At first, their resistance groups had limited effect on the Imperials. As time wore on, however, the Dressellians became masters of guerilla warfare, making the continued occupation of Dressel very costly for the Empire. Dressellian guerillas armed themselves with a mixture of their own equipment and captured Imperial weapons and repulsorlift vehicles. Dresselians managed to drive the Empire from their world, using only simple projectile rifles. Once the Bothans began to throw their support behind the Rebellion, they began to smuggle equipment, weapons, and mercenaries to train the Dressellians.

The most prominent Dressellian during the time of Rebellion was the Rebel commando Orrimaarko, nicknamed "Prune Face".

Just a little EIII clone sampling before I bust out my Planet Dressel playsets and take some diorama pics.

All of the clones are complete except Cody who had some sculpy parts that got busted up in my move last month.  He needs a repair, I just showed an angle that wasn't damaged.

Very nice Sr.  :)

The lines are really straight on all of them, esspecially those shocktroopers. I couldn't do that. :P  It looks like there are a couple places could use another coat of paint some of the white seems to be poking through. And I'm not sure if you want a clean look but you could try using an exacto and dinging the paint up a bit.

Keep 'em coming. :)

The capes I made from microfiber dish towels that I found at Target, cut a pattern then sewed them together using single interrupted sutures that I learned during oral surgery rotations back in dental school  :D

That was the manliest way to sew that I could think of.

You're doing some great work DR, I like the Dresellians a lot just because they're an uncommon custom to see.  Did you sculpt the patch-less Commando yourself?

For WIW, I tend to go with a different backstory on the Dresellians...  I like to think of them as a bit more evolved than EU's given them credit for.  I have just viewed their rifles as a laser the same as an MG-34 worked as one as well.  Wooden stocks aren't uncommon on other blaster weapons so that's cool to me.  That's just my take though.

I like them as a reasonably advanced species who have been reluctant to openly join the Alliance (thoughs ome volunteer on their own and are assimilated like any other volunteer).  The Dresellian resistance movement then sorta is like the Viet Cong...  Ruthless, efficient, and very adept at defending their planet but with also some good skills off-planet that they lend tot he Alliance for the battle of Endor as well as other engagements.

Anyyyyyyyyway, sorry for that...

I like them and I dig your use of PTE figs for bases.  They work well for random commando's who are relegated to not having structured unifroms and stuff.  THe softgoods robes rock too.  Very retro but look great.  I'm just curious on the patch-less sculpt you used.  I'd like one actually myself!  I've hoped Hasbro would update with a 2nd Commando (more articulation, cloth cloak) that didn't have a patch...  Or at least had a removable patch.

EDIT:

I should note that I was complementing Kevin's Dresellian's that used the PTE bases above.  I noticed a base I'm not familiar with on the next page back for one of the original Dresel Rebel's custom Dresellian's though.

Great stuff either way.  Nice to see the Dresellian homeguard getting some love in customs.

Your paint jobs on your clones are very clean and sharp - great work!
Did you sculpt that Cody helmet?  It looks very good from the angle that you took the pic - I hope you're able to repair it!
The only thing that I would change would be to add the 2 parallel lines going down the sides of the 501st Clones.

Jesse James - No, the original is actually a couple years old, someone who kinda hung it up and retired named Tony "Lando" sculpted the original.  I've since learned a couple different methods of casting, thanks to a complete dental lab full of materials.  Thanks for the props on my work so far.

Gregorbian - I know about the parallel stripes on the blue 501st, but I just don't like that part.  I don't know, I'm probably going to continue making them without those stripes.  I think it makes the armor look more like pants or something  :P

I've been trying to get around to it for the last few days, but have made very little progress finding time, but sometime in the very near future I will have pics of dioramas of these Dresselians and others knocking off squads of VOTC stormies.  There is going to be a very high stormtrooper body count.

Heh, Dresellian's punking the Imperial army.  Sweet...

I'd suggest mixing up the belt-fed grenade launcher a bit DR, with perhaps a new barrel on it at least...  I've got a bunch of those myself I'm tinkering with.  I'm making a large energy feed for one and an oversized "clip" for another more mobile model.

What a great update.  Looks like I missed a lot of new pics here today.

There's been so many clone repaints lately, but these are some of the better ones I've seen.  I might suggest a little weathering on some of them to give them more of a realistic look, but as they are, they still look great.

The Dresselians are still cool as well... I might suggest painting a few of their heads a darker shade, just to add variety to the species.

And the dioramas are looking great.  The military toys really blend in well with the Dresselians, and the grass/brush all look great.  And I love seeing fan fic EU stuff like this.  Simply awesome!

Sorry I didn't resize these sooner, I really like the camp. :) The tents are really neat, where are they from? I really like the guard tower as well. And I LOVE that effect you have going with the stormtroopers, it's too bad you can't have  a real explosion in the middle of their ranks. ;)

I know you plan on doing something for the background, but I think it would be cool if you covered the floor more too. You could get a ground cover mat and put everything you have there on top of it. They make a couple different kinds, like moss (which would look good), grass, pebble, and I'm sure there are more.

Here's a link to a place that sells them. (http://www.dollhouses-trains-more.com/item.aspx?strLocation=&strSortBy=NAME&intPageNumber=1&strPkLinks=23646&strPage=search.aspx&cboDepartment=&txtSearch=moss%20mat) I linked it to the moss mat but there are others on the site.

Whoops. :-* I fixed it

Work is coming slowly on my idea to have Commander Bly decked out in camo fit for an invasion of the planet Mudrin - native world of the amanin.  Here's a sample of Bly's squad decked out in camo for this planet.  Bly is in the center, with a camo kama.  To the right is a grunt with a camo kama and brown holsters, and to the left is a grunt with a green kama sans black/brown camo, and white holsters.  I need to decide on a uniform, I'm leaning towards the grunt on the right:

Funny you should mention that, Chewie... I have about five Amanin warriors in various stages of completion.  ;)

There's a great three part story featuring the Amanin in Dark Horse's EMPIRE series...

Dressel: Those clones look good, they just need a little dull cote on the kamas. Are those Bly and his legion, only in green?

Well, I need about 6 Mygeeto Galactic Marines to gun Ki Adi Mundi down now that Aayla has met her untimely demise on my shelf (thanks Clone Evolutions).  I went the soft goods route, on the face mask and kama.  Kevin's so excited about the Yankees winning tonight and his new girlfriend coming for a visit tomorrow that he gave me this half assed hosted pic that cuts most of my soft goods kama off, but here's a WIP pic of a 90% complete Galactic Marine.  The kama, if Kevin could calm down long enough to host it correctly, is about 3/4 length to 1/2 way up the shin, not knee length like the Bacara kama.  He promises better pics this week.

If someone wants to make a custom of Bianca Beauchamp, i'll take the above pose, and instead of 3 3/4" I'll take one about 5' 2" with real feel skin like the rancor, and to hell with a mini bust, I'll take the full sized bust.

Absolutely right.

The marine on the left is a bacara body, and the one on the right is a clone 41 SA body.

The remaining galactic marines that I make will be clone 41 bodies, I think it looks much better than the bacara body.

So, post-dresselian customs, I'm back into casting now.  First up is one of Gree's grunts the "BARC" trooper.  I made a mold of a 1983 Kenner scout trooper head because I hate the tiny little head they put on the 2001 POTJ scoutie body.  I used plumber's epoxy for the casting.  A couple precise cuts in the arms of a 2001 POTJ scoutie and a paint job, and here is the final result:

Next is a WIP 501st assault diorama.  I'm trying to figure out the best way to make a backdrop and floor, all I've really done here is plan the layout of the attack and scraped a black line away above the helmet visor to separate the eyes from that black line above it like it's supposed to be.  The way Hasbro painted it, it looked like sunglasses.

Clone Hunter - Thanks.  If Hasbro ever did get around to releasing the Kashyyyk clone, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they used the 2001 POTJ sculpt.  I'd say it's 50-50 between the POTJ and VTSC sculpts if and when they get around to it, and even then they'd probably mess up the paint scheme.  Just look at Gree.  So I figured, what the hell, might as well pick up 15 VTSC scouts and just make the Kashyyyk squads myself.

CHEWIE - Thanks again for the Yak feature, looks sweet on their main page.

BrentS - Thanks.  I'm trying to find some good mushrooms for to litter the Felucia base with.  It's just a matter of finding them and that dio will be done.  I might also put a blue backdrop behind all the flora like in the movie.

Great job on the BARC troopers -- now if I could only find any VTSC :-P.

I like your Felucia work so far.  I wish you luck on the mushrooms -- I searched all over the place when I was working on my Felucia dio and had a hard time locating anything in scale.  My final soultion was to use nut and bolt combinations which I covered in terracotta Das pronto to make them organic looking mushrooms...

Okay, big update today.

First up, is my improvement to General Grievous.  Grievous is HUGE in the movie, yet Hasbro made him 3 3/4".  My version is an inch taller like the figure should have been in the first place, and I was tempted to make him even a little taller:

Next up is Tarfful.  He looks very bulky in the movie, kind of like the Preview Wookiee Warrior.  Hasbro's version was too skinny, and a little short.  So, I took matters into my own hands:

Hasbro's version:

Here's Tarfful meeting with General Gree and some troops on Coruscant before they depart to Kashyyyk:

And here is Gree and his troops landing on Kashyyyk in their BARC gear:

The taller Grievous is something that my friend and I have been debating customizing, but never got around to it. I was thinking of a combination of extending his mid-torso and his shins, but your method works perfectly.

Wow! Your Tarful is just worlds better than the stock Hasbro fig. I really always thought that the Hasbro one was too malnourished-looking, as well. This figure does the character justice.

Grievous looks a lot better at your height Dressel.  How did you do it?  Also I wonder how one would make the cape a bit longer?

I think Tarfful looks great the way you made him, just a bit dark in the one pic.

The Scuba Clone looks nice, but a bit fluorescent(sp?) I think.  Still a great use of additional parts on him and looks great.

That Greivous looks great Dressel! It is something I've been thinking of doing too, but haven't quite figured out what parts to use. Judging by the pic next to Obi-Wan you seem to have a done a great job on the scale.

The Kashyyyk clones look great as well, I think the visors on them are supposed to be green but I don't remember for sure...

I think you are off to a good start with Tarfful but I really think you need to add his bandoliers, rather than just painting them. You did a good job on the fur tone though, it looks much better than Hasbro's.

The barc clones are great, but the Tarful is exceptional. Now this is a figure I would have bought. Hes huge like a wookie should be and doesnt have that stupid power action that In my opinion ruined the sculpt of the figure. Excellent job Dressel.

Sorry I disappeared so long.  I suck.

Basically I chopped Grievous' lower leg in half at the shin, then used sculpy to mold a piece to join the two pieces of his shin.  I added 1" to Hasbro's figure.  The cape is the same that came with Hasbro's version.  All I did then is paint the shin the right color scheme.

These are some outstanding Hoth troopers.  This is something I've wanted to do ever since I picked up an extra couple of Bren Derlins.  I'd love to see some close-ups of the faces.  You did a GREAT job on the heads.  I'm also guessing that you added some "snow weathering" too.  You should take a photo of the these guys with Bren and Reikan.

Those do look good, I always like your updates Dressel.  Great job getting it to look like they have a bit of snow/ice on their uniforms.

This is a simple repaint of the Mace's Battalion 212th Parjai Trooper from the EU purple to the EIII orange scheme.  Both versions included for comparison purposes:

Thanks for looking.

That's pretty smooth painting DR, nice work...  I don't see much of any paint lines to hamper it at all.  You covered the purple well in all areas and it seems like you even added a little detail to the shoulder ammo thingy (little metallic dabs there thatI don't see on the original).

Nice work man...  What prompted you to repaint the figure instead of waiting for Hasbro's?  Or was it simply not liking purple versions of this figure? :)

Thanks Jesse!

What prompted me....Check out my posts in the 30 AC Airborne Trooper thread and also the Saga Mace BP thread.  I think there is a helmet difference.  Not too big, but noticeable to me.

I think...

Plus, I was just flat out bored and love the figure.  I really like the Parjais.  I'm still gonna buy tons more in January with the single carded release.

Nice trooper you've got there! Where's the diorama to go with it?

Great paint aps.  I love the rebel officers of Hoth.  Those looks awesome.  The beard is a great touch.

Also the airborne clones look fantastic.  I really love the orange flavored one.  Sharp!

I always look forward to seeing your work.
