Conventions / Re: Wizard World in Chicago
« on: May 9, 2003, 10:55 PM »
Ad I saw in Toyfare today mentions Hasbro and Star Wars as being at the Chicago show.  Stikfas, GI Joe and something I can't remember.

This sort of stuff doesn't happen in Canada :(

Heh, we have a four bedroom house.  When my Mom was alive, she and my dad used to come back to Winnipeg more frequently than just my dad does now.  The fourth bedroom is in a lower level (it's a four level split) with a bathroom right beside - almost an in-law suite.

Since it hardly ever gets used, my wife decided (yes, it was her decision) to let me convert it to the computer/Star Wars room ;D

I just need to stop buying crap long enough to be able to afford some shelving ::)  Didn't help that I ordered some Tomy stuff today. :P

Y'know, if you reopen bidding on Patty, I bet I'd win.  Thinking of moving to Utah anyway....

That poster is just hanging there waiting for a bet....

Aw, I'm just messing with ya.  My daughter just turned 3, she just finished second molars, is in a new "big-girl" bed and wakes up in the middle of the night and comes to our room.  Every night.  I can relate.

I've almost resigned myself to never having a normal night's sleep again.

As regards the NHL, I thought they were in trouble as soon as they grabbed Bettman.  Look at all the non-traditional markets.  This ain't baseball or basketball where a kid can get a pickup game going with a minimum of equipment.  Sorry, but North Carolina, Florida and the rest of California just aren't hockey hotbeds.  LA has always supported the Kings to some degree.

You can relate because you were without a team for a while after the Stars (nee North Stars) left.  Imagine how frustrating it is as a guy that used to go to 10 games a year (as a student yet) and watch Carolina average realistically about 4500 fans per game.  Even when the Jets set the record for futility in a season (longest winless streak ever), we still averaged about 12000 fans per game in a horrible building.  That jumped to about 13500 when they were playing well.  I'd have seasons if they were still here.

No offense to the great hockey fans in the US, but much more so than baseball or basketball, the NHL is simply not meant to be in the US to the extent it is.  The average US viewer gets less excited about hockey than they do bowling.  Keep it in the US where it belongs, bring it back to Canada where it needs to be (Winnipeg, Hamilton, Quebec City) and leave it alone.  The impending strike/lockout of next year is going to be ugly and devastating.

I don't know Scott, I'm starting to worry about your status as a fan.  ;) First the comment last night about not being able to watch, now this?  C'mon, it's hockey season, relish the fact you get to stay up late and drink beer?  Or is Max keeping you up in the middle of the night :-*

Other Collectibles / Petition for an Unleashed Ewok (or 2)
« on: May 9, 2003, 03:25 PM »
Heck no I don't want one :P

However, in a blatant attempt to get Grumpy Ewok ;) to stop hating me ;D I thought perhaps a petition should be started.

Yay or Nay, show your colors.  I reckon you can figure out my vote.

No problem at all.  I knew when I bought the baseball variants, I'd have a hard time getting rid of them.  LOL.

I've ordered cases previously, though I prefer McToys.ca because of the customs issues with ordering from US retailers.  My case of NHL4 had 3 variants in it and I am hoping for a near repeat performance for NHL5 (aka the Canadian series).  Are you over on the McFarlane board as well?

I'm not so into the NFL figs.  For myself I have regs of Bennett, Culpepper, Moss (dick) and Vick.  I would love to have a 49ers Rice, but no way I was ever going to drop $100 on something I marginally want in the first place.  I still have a few NFL4 figs, but only regs - Williams,  red socks Sehorn and a couple of others.  That's about it though.  I'll probably just keep hoping to have luck with NFL6-7.  Probably won't happen, but ya never know.  I think between 6 Walmarts and two TRU's our city received about 25 cases total.  Just an absolute madhouse.  Fights in the aisles, that also happened with NHL4.  Crazy people.

Cool.  I collect primarily hockey, have all of NHL3 and NHL4 regs and variants.  Most of NHL2 (all regs) and have repaints of Roy and Cujo.

Not much luck up here with NFL.  The line is too hot with collectors and resellers alike and I don't believe in physical violence to obtain toys.  As such, I miss out on most if not all of the NFL stuff.  Just as well really as I'd probably end up trading it away.

I have spares of most of NHL4 chase if you need any (not Kovalchuk).  I also have a grey Ichiro and a grey Hoffman if you want them.  I can either sell them to ya (C&S) or we could trade (2 SW for 1 SP?).  No worries if none of it interests ya.  Just prefer to trade with someone from a star wars board.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: How Many States Have You Been To?
« on: May 9, 2003, 01:15 PM »
Dale,
part of it is related to my dad's job (insurance salesman) and my job.  I get to go to conferences in many places in the US.  Wisconsin was the most recent.  This October I'll be in Ohio and plan on drifting down to Louisville, home of my favorite college basketball team.

My dad sold life insurance and one of the perks of his job was various conferences based on sales performance.  Most of those Caribbean spots and lots of the US destinations are attributable to family travel.  Minnesota and North Dakota relate mostly to drinking ;).  The Western States are primarily a result of skiing.

I'd really like to see much more of the Eastern US but at this point don't have much reason to go out that way.

Aus and points in that direction are due to a little 6 month vacation.

Then there's the age advantage ;)
