Nope, no kiddos yet, probably someday though.

We have a 27" Philips (maybe the same one you have?) – flat glass screen, with only the power control on the front of the tv. The volume and channel control is a simple circle button on top of the machine.

This has dodged a lot of fighting between our 2 and 4 year old - they can turn it off but not screw up the source/channel/volume. Also, there are no parts on the front to break off – unlike the Sony that has a small latch hatch to hide the controls on the front. Not hidden for long, my guess.

So, I've been eyeing a Philips 30ish Widescreen that I saw at Walmart  for $697.00 (I'd never buy it there, but you could go see it in person – and buy it cheaper elsewhere)... It has the same industrial design and control set up as the 27" 4:3 we have, but all the Widescreen goodness we don't, AND it's HDtv.

That's where I'm at anyway.

Revenge of the Sith / Re: Episode III line....April 2nd, 2005

In my world, they'd release 18 figures for the launch of the line, with no action features:

-Anakin Skywalker
-Obi-Wan Kenobi
-Padme Amidala
-Threepio
-R2-D2
-Mace Windu
-Yoda
-General Grevious
-Wookiee Warrior (generic)
-Clone Trooper
-Bail Organa
-Chancellor Palpatine
-and about six other background/Jedi/Separatist characters that had screen time but did nothing that could be construed as a spoiler.

I don't think we'll be seeing Padme Amidala in ROTS, based on the ending of EP II... ;) Or, did you mean that in your world Portman's character did *not* marry Anakin, and thus is still single and available?

Darth Vader, Beneath the Helmet, part 427.

"Luke, I am your mother..."

Lucas returns and further re-edits his classic trilogy to change his greatest villain into a woman, because everyone knows that when pushed women are meaner, scarier and more vengeful than any man.

Fans are outraged, but lining up to buy the new dvd set nevertheless.

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC "swap" irony
« on: October 4, 2004, 08:56 PM »
Sorry, I meant that other So. Cal... San Diego. We went down in late August for about a *cough* week *cough* and goofed around on the beach. No Disney, no Sea World, no zoo... Just the four of us on the beach (and four trips to Ikea, and one to the Apple Store). I suggested driving up to LA to Kris and it didn't go over well based on our 2 and 4 year car passengers. If I'd told her it was to hook up with my Star Wars buddies, I'd be single now.

Next time Matt!

I saw a VOTC Vader swap at a TRU. I cannot remember if it was in So. Cal. or in Dallas off of 183 and Belt Line. I think it was a HOF Vader placed into the VOTC tray. It wasn't even that impressive of a job. There was a tear in the card paper and the interior bubble was creased.

I did tell a TRU employee who was passing by, but he showed little concern and I doubt anything was done about it.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Styrene...

Wow, thanks guys!

The pattern I made has been done in Illustrator, so I guess the vinyl sign route is an option. Do you know roughly how much that sort of thing costs?

I'm usually sending big orders through for production graphics (trade show type application) - so it's hard for me so say anything other than "reasonable"... But call a few shops and offer to email them the file for them to price, or tell them the size and they can give you a price per square foot. Make sure to tell them you'll apply it yourself, and generally I have a spare cut just in case I screw up applying the first set.

Another term to know is "weeding". Weeding removes all the negative image surrounding the positive image you want, including places like the "hole" of an "o" or "g". This is tedious work, and if you're willing to take it on yourself your job will cost A LOT less.

These places have people calling with small jobs all the time. You'll be easy since your file is already prep'ed to go - most people calling up out of the book can't understand why their GIF web logo cannot be cut. Try calling an Insta-Signs type place first, tell them you've got a small, straight forward project you'ld like them to look at.

Once you've got drawing shapes in Illustrator down, you're ready to move on to laser cutting railings and decking. Most metal fabricating shops and some sign shops have a water or laser jet cutter that can cut out 3D patterned shapes. Great for Sail Barge railings, Death Star patterns and Tantive IV panels.

Or... You could create your pattern in a program like Adobe Illustrator (anything that makes vector lines) and take it to a vinyl sign shop. Think about the lettering on the sides of trade vehicles, it's the same thin easy to cut vinyl. They will be able to cut the pattern on a Gerber machine out of any color vinyl you'ld like - even metallics for other applications. The vinyl could then be easily applied 1st surface to the top of your acrylic since the back is sticky. You could ask for a few extra inches of the vinyl to wrap other parts of your diorama so the black has color consistency between parts.

Do the figures come with any accessories/weapons?

702
Overall, I'm really happy with all of these figures.

The only real disappointment for me so far is Leia not coming with her Tantive gun, and Lando as well. Both have Stormtrooper blasters, not what I expect for "nostalgia" or 10 bucks.

R2's accessories are a little bit of a let down as well. Nice concept, not all that well executed. The sensorscope is alright, but the arms are a poorly executed revisit of a previous R2 figure. I'd almost rather had a blue led eye light with sounds.

However, I do really like them. I did buy all 12, and that wasn't the plan when I first heard about these.

It was all over the news the next couple days after that press conference.  Ain'tchya got a TV out there Dp?!?   :P

No tv on the frontier. And our Pony Express rider didn't make it in this week. I'm really worried about him, but he's just an orphaned kid – it's not like he's got a family or nuttin'. ;)
