The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Recent Clone Wars Finds/Purchases

That's pretty much exactly what I am seeing here as well, Jesse. Even the Walmarts that seem to have completed their resets have not put out anything I cannot walk into any Target around town and buy for the past 3 weeks. Just a ton of RC tanks, attack shuttles, Wave 1 Rapid Strike vehicles, and the usual mish-mash of BP's which NEVER include the Capture the Droids set.

If that's their idea of a big reset they are going to be sorely disappointed with the lack of sales. Their "new" stuff really isn't that new at all. I really don't get why they didn't at least stock THEIR OWN Fall exclusives, namely the BARC with Buzz and the AT-RT. Totally MIA.

I did notice in a couple of stores they had a lot of empty pegs for figures and was told they were expecting more stock in next week.

Still though, it's very odd to have so many new figure sightings in places like PA, NJ, KY and absolutely no trace of anything here in VA. Usually we are all in the same "distro belt".

Saw a bunch of the 3 3/4 and 6" versions of these at K-Mart last night. Looked pretty cool, but I had to resist getting pulled into yet another line.

Whoops! How silly of me. From North Carolina, USA. Ask thanks for welcoming me!

Awesome to have another mid-Atlantic poster, welcome! I live in Richmond VA and will be looking forward to hearing about what stuff you are seeing hitting to the south.

Cheers!

Wow, thanks Jeff, that was super-enlightening. I never knew the backstory on that detail but your explanation makes sense.

I have only seen the re-cut once - I did not care for the lack of narration, that adds so much IMO.

And yeah, definitely agree Rachel is and Deckard isn't.

Returned home in time today to do a nice little toy blitzkrieg through 3 Walmarts, 3 Targets, and a TRU. I was 1-for-7, eesh.

I did pick up the last 2 Blackout figures from TRU, at least one of which was minty-carded enough to keep, so I am set on this guy.

Thinking I may just go ahead and pick up the Attack Shuttle this weekend if I can't track down any of the Wave 12 figs.

Ridley Scott to direct new Blade Runner film

Blasphemy, just watched the original a few nights ago and it is utterly perfect as is. You simply cannot improve upon that movie.

One thing has always bugged me though - the math in that movie does not add up. Decker is told that 6 replicants escaped, one got fried offscreen. That leaves 5: take away Rutger Hauer, Brion James, Daryl Hannah and that chick with the snake and that still leaves one replicant completely unaccounted for. WTF?

To some folks the Tartakovsky series was the greatest thing since light-saber sliced white bread.

Yes, that would be me. I hold a reverence for that series that is unrivalled by any other EU.

You really cannot compare that to the current series, IMHO. It's like trying to compare Citizen Kane to the Matrix. Both are great, but coming from very different points of origin.

Tarts is all about creating art, using animation as a visual medium for sublime expression. His take is restrained, full of atmosphere and shaded by nuance. It's not a blow you away thrill ride like we got in the Point Rain arc of the new show. There's a stylized, abstract element, not only in the art but in the plotting and execution of the action. It's more methodical, all about pacing.

As for the art and animation styling, I guess "dated" is just a matter of opinion. I suspect many people consider the early Warner Bros animation to be dated as well, because no computers were involved, but that stuff beats the living **** out of anything being trawled out today, if you ask me. Give me hand rendered cells over CGI every day of the week.

Tarts was never aiming to be "hyper-realistic" in his interpretation of the SW universe, it's just his unique vision, very much an outgrowth of the Samurai Jack motif.

And yeah, I can definitely see how that would not appeal to everyone. It's a unique perspective to be sure, and if it's not personally appealing it would be tough to get engaged with the stories.

Final note: Best thing about the micro-series is that they f-ing killed off Asajj Ventress without dragging that weak ass storyline way past its due. Filoni seems completely unable or unwilling to kill any villains in his series, just good guys. So as a result you have a whole universe of major league scumbags walking around that have somehow scattered into the woodwork prior to ROTS.

Killing me...KILLING me, I hate being in a non-toy corridor for vacation! Thank God it's all over tomorrow and I can resume my maniacal search for new swag. I did steal out to the one local K-Mart here in DE last night but all they had newish were the 2 new role playing masks. No new figures, vehicles, etc. Not even a B-Wing, which I have still yet to ever come across.

I did get word from a friend back home that out local TRU finally got their allotment of Comm. Blackout in, so at least I have that to look forward to upon my return.  ;D

Finally was able to hit up a local Walmart in Rehoboth DE. No sign of any new TCW figures, but they did have a few RC Republic Tanks and 2 Assault on Geonosis BP's. Also a couple of the Wave 1 Rapid Strike vehicles.

Guessing there is some kind of more substantive reset coming, but no idea when exactly.

Wow, I wanted to chime in on that action too but you guys covered all the available puns. Well played!

Love college football, glad SEC gave thumbs down to Texas A&M for now, at least.  I prefer the traditional conference alignments. Clemson needs to stick with the ACC for sure too. Flroida State I don't care so much about either way.

I'm on vacation in DE, which sucks because I am seem to be stuck here when new stuff is hitting and this state is a Toy Wasteland. I mean, they have like one TRU within 1000 miles of me, it's ridiculous. There are NO Targets and only a small handful of Walmarts about. I plan to try and check at least one of them this week, but I really won't be able to hunt in earnest until returning back to VA next week.

I am hoping these are just sporadic occurences...would suck to miss the boat entirely on account of vacation.
