My entry for the Yakfinities - Feral Droids

SKV-Y33

The SKV series salvager droid has been in service for decades. It was on the way to being phased out until the Clone Wars hit. Suddenly the galaxy had a huge demand for a specialized salvage droid and the SKV series continued production.
This unfortunate droid saw a long line of owners who either abused or neglected maintaining it.
Fortune would shine upon this droid when its owners became victims of feral droids in an abandoned industrial section or Corescant. SKV-Y33 had expected to be scrapped by the droids. It was suprised when they offered to purge it of its limitating programs and join them in vengence upon their cruel former masters.
SKV now assists in sabotaging speeders of explorers (and of course getting new parts to repair his friends)
Sometimes SKV also attempts to salvage useful chemicals from otherwise useless "meat bags"...

Watto's Junk Yard / Customizers in the Portland Oregon area?
« on: January 26, 2008, 08:59 PM »
Many fellow customizers I talk to online have local or semi-local friends who also customize. However its seemed that the Portland area seems kinda dry in the customizing area.
I am posting this in hopes to find others in the area to maybe have a small meet up and discuss customizing ideas and such.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Styrene Construction Questions
« on: September 16, 2007, 06:20 AM »
Had some questions about working with Styrene.

1) What thickness would be suggested for vehicle frame.

2) Best glue for bonding styrene to styrene.

3) Site with affordable sytrene sheets in decent sizes.

I went looking for the imperialcommandos site and realized its appearantly dead.
Was wondering if anyone out there saved the pics from that site?
They had alot of cool concepts there.
I know Sithfire made a few of the helmets from that site.
As I am currently working on a bunch of Imperial Commandos of my own I wanted to try sculpting some of the helmets. They had some cool stuff.
So anyone got the pics saved anywhere?

EDIT - I have changed the title to reflect a modification in the theme of this discussion. Continued in the next post by me in this thread... Jesse, your input inspired me to changed the direction of this thread...I hope its ok with the way I am doing it...

(Old information from previous version of the thread).
I have been searching for a medical or medic symbol for star wars but never found one. Since I do have a Clone Medic in the planning stages, I figured I would need to develope one. I wanted something that would look similar to a real world Medic symbol but also look Star Wars-ish...
Here is what I came up with:

I wanted you guys to let me know what you think. Suggestions on how it should or shouldnt look, or is it ok as is?
Real world medic symbol:

I am curious if the tan "exoskeleton" we see on Zuckuss is an environmental encounter suit or his exoskeleton? I have found a reference image of a gand (from the Rogue Squadron Comic I beleive...) that shows what the face looks like without the breathing aparatus, but it looks like it might be a slightly different look to the head also. Another point is that on Zuckuss, the breathing aparatus looks integrated to the face, leaving me to beleive that it is an encounter suit.
Does anyone have any information on this? Wikipedia and Wookipedia seem kinda vague on the subject (not to mention if its even accurate at all...)
The reason I want to know this, is because in the future, I plan on sculpting up some various Gand figures, but wanted to give them removable helmets, if the exoskeleton we see is actually an encounter suit.
The reference from the comic I found was only in black and white, so I dont know if they character's skin/exoskeleton color is different with/without the breathing aparatus making it harder to determine. Could anyone who might have these comics tell me if there is anymore information on this? I would so very much appreciate the help.

Customizing Tips and Tricks / molds of action figure hands?
« on: November 12, 2006, 10:37 AM »
I was curious if anyone out there has made any decent molds of action figure hands with extended fingers that turned out any decent casts...
I have some ideas of how to revise my molds for this but figured I would try to get some input before I waste any more mold making material.(like the Commander Cody figure with the hand that the trigger finger also could be pointing for example...)

The problem I run into the most is air bubbles trapped in the curved fingers (often preventing them from forming at all).
I have an idea using clay and thin copper wire for air holes but figure I will see if anyone out here has some tested and proven advice first.

Watto's Junk Yard / If you won a trip to the set of a TV show...
« on: November 8, 2006, 06:17 AM »
If you won a trip to a set of a TV show you watched, what questions would you ask the production crew and/or actors?
What show?
What questions?
Though keep in mind in all reality, even if you where on the set, chances are any really good questions would be met with "Thats a good quetion... but I cant give you an answer"

Modern Trading / Straxus's wants list...
« on: August 28, 2006, 07:31 PM »
Here are a few things I am looking for.
I wont have money to spare for anything (including postage) until september 15th but figured I would get the list up to see if anyone has any of the items listed below until that time.

- x1 Death Star Trooper Helmet (POTF2) - origional or cast, may be interested in complete action figure as well.
- x1 Republic Commando Scorch - loose, doesnt have to have accessories, just an intact figure, scratched paint is fine as long as figures plastic itself does not have broken peices.

Ok its a short list at the moment but when I think of more I will edit it.
EDIT-
At the moment this is a "looking to buy" list, until I can locate and determine what I have suitable for trade.

Newbies / Hello from Straxus
« on: July 30, 2006, 06:10 AM »
Just wanted to stop in and say hello and introduce myself!
I have made a few posts here, but will be far more active in future. I got started with the whole customs thing over at The Jawa, but now I am also becoming more active on other forums as well.
I have been 3d modeling for last six (or more) years, and for a number of reasons (mainly that I was sick of being completely reliant on a computer being fully functional at all times to keep pursuing my hobby.)
Since I started customizing in May of this year, I am managed to learned to paint figures, sculpt, mold and cast, and now I am practicing vehicle and diarama creation methods... Its been a massive crash course in learning these last few months, but very rewarding! Thanks to all those who have helped me learn all this stuff!

I normally post primarily over at The Jawa, but I need to branch out a bit more. I started customizing arround the end of may this year and just started sculpting about a month ago.

Well today I wanted to give a fourth attempt at this helmet...
I used a cast AT-RT driver helmet with some dremel sanding down on some areas as a base to sculpt on. Partly cause I wanted the front "mouth" area to have some detail in it, and the AT-RT driver helmet had the middle/back detail I wanted included on the helmet (that I did not feel I was ready to sculpt with appropriate detail yet.)
Well here we go with the pics (sorry about all the fingers in pics, needed to hold sculpt support in place.)

next to the one that ended up too big, as comparison...

After I mold and cast this, I am going to modify a cast one so that I can have a Commander Keller helmet as well. (Sadly I have never read the comic he was in, much less know the name of it, but I see pics from it all over the place.)

I will post a few other things I have done so far in near future...
