Star Wars Universe / Long live Boba!
« on: June 15, 2004, 05:51 PM »
At this risk of being laughed at, I decided to post this topic (you have been forewarned).

Who here knew that Boba Fett did not die at the Pit of Carkoon?  My lovely wife and two boys got me the Star Wars Dictionary for my birthday and it states that he survived!  Dengar I believe came back to rescue him, and he was the best man at Dengar's wedding (corny.)

I always thought he was a cool looking character but died in such a pitiful way.  Long live Boba...

Watto's Junk Yard / JediMAC goes absolutely postal!
« on: June 15, 2004, 04:22 PM »
On a well respected moderator of a collecting forum no doubt.

The topic came up about Theater Luke's coming off the bubble.  This poor chap just stated his thoughts ;).

"It's not Hasbro/Kenner's fault that the bubble falls off, I would say that it's the person who owns the item didn't pay much care to the piece at all. The main problem would be where the figure was stored so as mentioned above heat would play a factor into the bubble popping off. Also the packaging isn't meant to last forever, in time bubbles will fade and bubbles might fall off depending on the location of the items. The only way Hasbro plays a part is the materials they use but Hasbro's aim is to get the figure to the shelf (in most cases) then the item being bought and opened. "

Now we have JediMAC ripping the poor guy... ;D

"for the love of all that is holy, would you PLEASE stop making stupid statements like this on such a consistent basis, when you obviously have no freaking idea what in the damned hell you're talking about. I highly doubt you even own one of these pieces, or know any of the aforementioned collectors who do. Therefore, you obviously can't speak to their collecting habits and methods, and the care that they may or may not give to their carded figures...

I got together with FishEyedLouie (above) and another local collecting buddy tonight, and this piece happened to come up in our conversation (which is how I learned of this thread), and we discovered that all three of our Theater Luke bubbles were coming off - and we're three of the most anal carded collectors around. So don't try and tell me that we all just so happened to coincidentally not take care of this one particular figure, out of the hundreds upon hundreds of figures in our carded collections, all of which are still perfectly MOMC aside from this one Luke.

This figure's card stock and glue were obviously of lesser quality than that which was used on all other standard carded figures of that time. For whatever reason, unfortunately, the bubbles on these nice commemorative figures are losing their grip, and many are starting to lift and/or fall off completely. So everyone who's fortunate to still have a good one, treat it as carefully as you possibly can!

And Greg(g), despite what you may think (and have unbelievably stated here in the past) - you are NOT God, and you don't know JACK about a great many things related to Star Wars figures, and collecting in general. Just because you can make decent lists (and subsequently prohibit anyone else from doing the same), it does not mean that you are knowledgeable about said items on your lists. So try shutting your trap once in a while, and maybe you won't look like such a foolish idiot.

- Matt"

Is the scarlet red ensigna really going for this much?   Or is this just an unusually high auction?

Vintage Kenner / FOTW #2 - Luke Skywalker
« on: April 3, 2004, 05:58 PM »
To all JDer's:

Feel free to share the following:

1) Pictures of the FOTW that you own.
2) How you obtained the FOTW or share a fond memory about the FOTW with us.
3) Provide information on the FOTW's known variations.
4) ?

One of my fondest memory as a child was my mom picking me up from school with her friend giving me the original Star Wars Case full of figures.
Luke was among the figures included on that day 25 years ago.

The sliding saber worked for this figure, I was not to fond of the Anakin SAGA version that came out a few years ago.  I still have not been able to land the brown hair version or the Telescoping Lightsaber version.

How about you?

I am going to potentially buy some or part of a collection that includes some carded figures.

Most notably, a carded Fett (not sure yet which one).  Can anyone refer me to a resource on some ways to tell the difference other then the obvious (look at it?)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Watto's Junk Yard / When arcade games were a quarter each...
« on: February 26, 2004, 10:23 PM »
I just got done playing Galaga on my youngest son's Gameboy Advance and it brought back some fond memories.  Take a deep breath and think back to your trips to 7 Eleven or Malibu Grand Prix as a kid.  You walk in only to discover a new game!

When $5.00 went a long way.  I first went and mixed me up a Slurpee with every flavor available, nabbed some Big League Chew, Now and Laters, Lemon Heads, Alexander the Grapes, and Charlie Chans.

Now on to the games...

Dun...Du...Dun..Du..Dun.Du = Asteroids
Warrior shot the food = Gauntlet

I'll start with my top ten in no particular order.

Street Fighter 2 = Al you can baby!
Punch out = body blow / body blow, Glass Joe, Bald Bull ya know!
Galaga = didn't you hate when you shot your ship when it got captured?
Track and Field = somebody break out a pencil for me.
Paperboy = I broke a window!
Super Sprint = wrenches anybody?
Rush 'N' Attack = a knife and a bazooka a deadly combonation!
Donkey Kong / Donkey Kong Jr. / Donkey Kong 3 = barrels of fun.
Karate Champ = the original fighting game / 1 guy in red one in white.
Star Wars Arcade = 3D ya heard me!

I could go on and on - how about you?  What arcade games bring back memories for you?

Could this be a prototype or a bootleg?  I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Anyone planning on going this year?  I noticed that this is going to hit So Cal I believe in March and was considering going.  I believe it hits a few more cities later on in the year.

I noticed that the Gentle Giant Clone Trooper Pilot is going to be up for sale here.

For those that have gone in the past, how is the show?
