Title: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: Symposium on June 18, 2010, 12:07 PM
Which death star I wonder!?
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4
Post by: P-Siddy on June 18, 2010, 12:10 PM
I just assumed the first one since it didn't have DSII on it... but that could open some possiblitities, like a dignitary

Hmm, wonder what's going to be in the Death Star one. Seems like we've gotten the Imperials and disguised Luke and Han. And what would be the builder??

Shield generator?  Trash Compactor?

Chase Dianoga for the vintage nod?

My guesses if it's ANH based:

Dirty Luke in Stormtrooper Disguise with wet hair and dianoga tentacle wrapped around his neck
Death Star Duel Obi-Wan Kenobi w/hood up
Luke and/or Han with Stormtrooper utility belts
Black Uniform Imperial Officer
Leia with ITO-Droid
Porkins

BAD: Death Star Trench Gun or Turbo Laser  :P

The black spheres DX4?

The interrogation droid that Vader uses on Leia?

This is my prediction. With the 6 figures being:
1.Captain Piett
2.Imperial Dignitary
3.Battle damaged Stormie ( tk2231) or whatever the number is
4.Princess Leia
5.Death Squad Commander -vintage
6.Chewbacca in cuffs-even though we have a couple

Chases: Imperial Gunner
             Black Death Star Droid

Parts building possible: Vader's Chamber or Trash Compactor w/ monster

DX Series4

Google translation

DX Series4
Darth Vader (vinyl)
Purinsesureia (vinyl)
R2-D2 (What? Again?)
Rebels (What? Again?)
Thai Fighter Pilot (gray gloves and boots)
Imperial Digunitari (maybe)

Here is the Viper probe droid parts complete bonus.
Su 良Katsu standing too!

No particular feature display board inside the Death Star!
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: Jeff on June 21, 2010, 11:35 AM
Purinsesureia = Princess Leia

Also, I believe 反乱軍兵士 = Rebel Fleet Trooper

So, that would make it -
Darth Vader (vinyl)
Princess Leia (vinyl)
R2-D2
Rebel Fleet Trooper
TIE Fighter Pilot (gray gloves and boots)
Imperial Dignitary

with Parts to the Arakyd Viper Probe Droid

I'm hoping Leia is a "hood up" version and I'm guessing R2-D2 will have some sort of holo-leia with him.

Could "Vinyl" mean vinyl cape a la the vintage figures? Makes sense if we are getting a vintage-ese paint job on the TIE Pilot. And since this is a DS themed set, maybe R2 with have exposed scomp link/utility arms? Maybe even a Vintage style dome?
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: Symposium on June 21, 2010, 11:47 AM
So the Leia would be a better version of the early bird Leia? Also we get the probe droid that would better match DX2 than the AT-St lol

To be honest the Imperial dignitary is the one that interested me.

So are people digging the news on these? I'd love a Dignitary.
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on June 21, 2010, 01:03 PM
I'm not surprised by the choices, but am a little dissapointed in them.  Between the S1 Chases and S3/S4 figures, we're getting a lot more "adjusted" figures versus new figures.  I get making a couple of the figures repaints to save on tooling costs, but there are a ton of "new" figures that I would rather see in place of yet another R2, Rebel Trooper, Leia, Luke, Ben, etc.

I'm going to guess chases now for this series:

Princess Leia Yavin Ceremony (in Leia box)
Captain Antilles (in RFT box)
Space Trooper (in TIE Pilot box)

:P

I like those chases Jayson, especially Captain Antilles, however I'm going to put my money on a second Dignitary as one of the chases...

I'm going to guess chases now for this series:

Princess Leia Yavin Ceremony (in Leia box)
Captain Antilles (in RFT box)
Space Trooper (in TIE Pilot box)

:P

I think obvious chases for this line might include any of the following:

Darth Vader telescoping lightsaber (that would be cool)
Princess Leia (Ceremonial Gown)
Captain Raymus Antilles (Tantiv IV)
Alternate Version of the Imperial Dignitary

I'd vote for the telescoping Vader first, Captain Antilles second.  Two versions of the dignitary seem very likely to me as well.

I'm a lot less fired up for this series now than I was before the weekend if those rumours hold true.  Looks like repaint-itis has hit Medicom perhaps.  Bummer.

Is there cases in the DX series or just parts to build something?

Death Star set has to have the Black Death Star Droid.
Maybe some officers from the "war room"?

Series 3 should have Power Droid and Hammerhead,
this would give us the final nod from the first 21 figures in the Kenner series I've been waiting for.
I'd love to see the Garindan and Uncle Ben and Aunt Owen.

I really hope the do a Cantina DX series. There they could put Hammerhead and some of the best Cantina aliens with a chase Bar or Dewback.

Love the Ideal of a Probot but that's more of a Hoth thing... Hoth series 2 with a Wampa, I think yes....

Probe droid is such a bizarre choice.

It definitely makes more sense to be released with the Dlx Series 2 figures, but I'm glad we are getting the AT-ST with that set.  I'll put them both in the Hoth display...

These look amazing!  The Leia and Vader in vinyl capes are must haves.  Imp Dig and Antilles look pretty amazing as well.  I'm not so excited about repeats of R2 or even the TIE Pilot, but I can overlook those for these 4 and a rockin' Probe Droid, even if the PD is an odd choice for a Death Star Theme.  Very curious about the chases now...maybe an alternate Dignitary, electruction Vader, or some Imperial Officer?  I'd love to see a Vintage Death Star Commander come out of this...

The body looks different to me, but overall it looks pretty similar.  Not a great addition for us old timers, but I suppose a lot of people don't have that early bird set.
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: MikeT on August 9, 2011, 06:00 PM
Originally I thought it was a different decal/sticker design for his body, but on closer inspection that doesn't seem to be the case. So the only difference I see are the brown coils on his feet, which on the early bird edition are yellow.

Look at how smug R2 looks in that picture... "Own me already? Too bad. [assorted beeps]"  :P

Can't decide if I'd want that background card or not. It definitely looks cool and I like the simplicity, but I also don't know if I'd want to pay a lot for something I could quickly make an exact copy of  in Illustrator. Would've liked to see what kind of Death Star scene they could've painted, ie. the docking bay, control room etc.

Hmmmm...chase guesses anyone?

I like the idea that one is an Imperial Officer...Piett, Motti, Death Squad Commander etc
The other one is tougher to say because most of the DS stuff is already done...maybe one of the other rebel commanders like Dodonna or Madine are a possibility

Boy there are going to be a lot of Imp Dignitaries on eBay.  :P He should have been a chase IMHO.

My guesses:

Motti or Janus Greejatus in Dignitary box
Porkins or Biggs in TIE Fighter Pilot box
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on August 31, 2011, 08:11 PM
This is an odd set with the probot as the chase.  I wonder if one of them will be from outside the DS.  I'd like to go easy and suggest an alternate dignitary, but I'm going to go big on these:

Vintage Death Squad Commander in the Vader box
Dutch Vander (Gold Leader) in TIE Pilot box

Pretty sure there was a Hasbro wave that included TIE Pilot, Antilles, and Dutch...seems like they've partly copied earlier Hasbro waves for some of these releases.  I would love to see what they can do with the old DS Commander - that would instantly be one of my all time favorite Kubes.

That would be too cruel! Plus they need to save the rebel trooper for Endor DX.  :)

Anyone know how long you have to cancel the preorders from HLJ and NCS? I'd like to preorder a box with the option to cancel and go the full set route if the chases are sweet.

Also, who had the lower price on a box for DX3: NCS or HLJ?
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star

Well, I have now.   ;)  I ordered 4 boxes and asked for a master case - we'll see what happens.

So, I have 6 basics sets of 7 available for anyone who wants to lock in now.  I'm asking $85 plus $5 to ship.

I should have a cardboard display available if anyone wants to throw their name in for that.  I'm asking $45.
I will also have some individual basic figures for sale at $12 each.  I'm not sure which ones - let me know what you want and I'll hold it for you if I have it.
Also going to have a spare Probe Droid for $25.

Can't believe this is only a few months away!

Hi Nick,

Thank you for writing in.

We cannot guarantee that multiples of four will be shipped out in their original shipping cases, due to the way we receive shipments from our suppliers and how stock is handled here.

Thank you for shopping at HobbyLink Japan! We appreciate your business!

I received the same notice from Brian, which is total BS.  The product is shipped in master cases, so they ought to be able to keep a solid set of 4 unopened and just forward on to the end consumer.  If they aren't going to include the display and may mix and match boxes, then I'm not ordering from them.  Just not worth it.   >:(

That is the only upside is that every box could have a chase, or you could potentially walk away with 2 chases.  I'm risk adverse though.  For that kind of money, I need to know that I'm definitely getting a chase and a background piece.

No I didn't, the email about the master case kind of shied me away so I didn't order. I will check NCSX when they do their preorders or just hit up bigbad. But they did sell out pretty quick on HLJ if that is what happened.

Depending on the price, I'm going to go with NCS as well.  I just don't like the thought of not getting a sealed case, and its not worth the savings if they aren't going to include the display.  I heard NCS handed out displays to anyone who ordered two boxes or more.  I tried one more time with HLJ, but Brian assured me there is nothing they can do to ship a sealed master case.  Lame.

So, I have 6 basics sets of 7 available for anyone who wants to lock in now.  I'm asking $85 plus $5 to ship.

I'm in for a DX4 basic set of six for $85 if you stick with the MC order someplace.  But can I get local pick-up instead of $5 delivery charge?  ;D

Local pick-up means no delivery charges.  Anyone living in MN or willing to drive up here can save $5.  I've got you down for one set Jeff.   ;)

NCSX pre-order is up.  They increased the price to $198.90 ($9 increase over the original DX1-DX3 prices).  This doesn't surprise me...  What did surprise me is that they raised the price for the DX1 and DX2 sets they still have in stock.  The DX1 price went up to $199.90 and the DX2 price went up to $399.90 :o!

Preorder is available at NCSX.  Go get 'em!

http://www.shopncsx.com/starwarskubrick4.aspx

I did the cost/benefit analysis below for anyone trying to figure out who they're going to order from.  HLJ is the cheapest, and probably the best place to go if you're just ordering a box.  Their price is considerably lower, though they don't discount much for shipping as you add boxes.  For a Master Case, the shipping from HLJ almost gets you up to BBTS and NCS pricing, which is pretty ridiculous.  Here's how the costs shake out for master cases:

Case CostShippingTotal
BBTS$775$23$798
HLJ$687$100$787
NCSX$796$21$817

Even though I already ordered from HLJ, I'm planning to cancel my order and go with NCS for S4.  I ordered the master case from them earlier today.  I can't stomach that HLJ won't send you the actual master case, so not only do you miss out on the display, but you might get 4 boxes and no chase.  You might also get more than one chase, but who wants to take the chance when you're spending $800?  Not me.

Big Bad would have saved me $20, but I have two issues with them.  #1 - I don't know that they'll get the cases.  They've taken pre-orders for items in the past that haven't come in, so I don't want to risk having to scramble for a case if something falls through.  #2 - I don't trust them.  Sorry for any BBTS guys reading this, but I don't have a history with them and haven't seen many chases coming out of BBTS.  I've used NCS for S10, Fett Series, Dx1 and Dx2 now and they've always come through.  I also like that they sent out extra displays to those that ordered 2 or more boxes.  I'll pay an extra 2% for great customer service.

I'll have 6 extra basic sets of 7 and still selling them for $85 each plus $5 shipping if you're not local.  Send me a PM if you're interested - 2 have been claimed, so 4 left at this point.  I'm also offering up the display for $40 if anyone wants it.

Someone please explain to me what the deluxe series 4 death star is?

"Death Star" is the setting/theme for this wave 4 of Star Wars Deluxe figures, due in December/January.  The wave consists of Vader, Imperial Dignitarty, Princess Leia, TIE Pilot, R2-D2, and Captain Antilles (who technically doesn't have anything to do with the DS other than helping transport the stolen plans, but I digress).  They come with a build-a-figure part similar to previous waves.  This time around, a set of all 6 lets you build a Probe Droid (again, not really what I think of when I think Death Star, but it is cool nonetheless).

Nah, don't be concerned. It's been that way for months.

HLJ has a set number of pre-orders and once that allocation is sold out they put up that order stop. Pretty standard for them, it's just that SW stuff attracts more demand.

Per HLJ:

"Order Stop "- Items not in stock are displayed with squares (in-stock items with circles). Blue squares with a white X indicate items that have not been released, or that we have no stock of, and for which information about the timing and/or quantities that will become available is uncertain.

Vintage Imperial Commander?  Awesome.  I was hoping for the DSC, but this will do nicely.  I wonder what the other one is?

I'd like to go easy and suggest an alternate dignitary, but I'm going to go big on these:

Vintage Death Squad Commander in the Vader box
Dutch Vander (Gold Leader) in TIE Pilot box

If it had the uniform details like the vintage figure, it would've made a nice vintage imperial commander, and the fact that they reused Veers' face would've make sense.

Would've made a great Death Star flunky like in the pic Symposium posted, except that even they have some "pleats" on their shirts, and they are not General Veers.

Not a bad fig imo, but kinda cheap and uninspired.

You know the skirt is intended to just be a longer torso coat, right?  It's there on the Kenner Imperial Commander too, just a lot more subtle.

I agree with Mike though, it's too bad they didn't do more with this chase.  Considering the detail they have put into past chases like the various Jedi, this seems a little uninspired (especially with more likeness to Jumpsuit guy than Imp Commander).  Still hoping the other chase is the Vintage DSC.   :-\

Man, Vader looks sweet, makes the whole series for me. Now just give me a Death Star Droid and all will be well in the universe...
A vintage Death Squad Commander would be nice too. Seems the Imp Commander is 1:48, interesting... wonder what he'll sell for.
Being a fan of the Imperials I really like this character choice but the torso is severely lacking in detail. Hopefully it's just a lighting issue and the skirt is black.
Still, one of the best series so far for me and the Probe Droid is mint. The backdrop is perfect for displaying a Imperial Army too.

I'm really surprised with the 1:48 ratio. I wouldn't have expected them to mix it up from the previous DX Waves...I'm assuming there is only one other figure to be revealed but would love it if there were two!

I stuck the text (about the 1:48 Ratio) from Instinctoy's blog post into google translate and got the following:

"Book now for the small number, we have reduced the number of cartons in stock, there is one mistake unfortunately not identical to (Carton B) Another secret that should be incorporated into the (1 / 48 mix rate) could it be unable to introduce Furukonpu aside the. . . m (__;) m

Details of the other kind of secret information is unknown at this time that I got 1 / 48 also secret bonus this is definitely the normal parts of six species DX Series 3 like the previous work because we did two things to exist seems to be full and complete with a total of nine species Dizu play board item + 1 / 48 secret 2 (@ ∀ @;)

☆ ☆ ☆ I hope this helps and enjoy your collection of the collection of information was very sorry to everyone unable to introduce all kinds

Products used today are expected to be introduced to Sell Auction Get ready any time soon."

Anyone fell like hazarding a guess as to what this means?

Jesus that's messed up... Let's hope that there's 2@1:48 and 1@1:96 chases. And that they don't sell for $400...
I can't for the life od me figure what that means. Maybe they only received one master carton and found two of these Imp Commander/Techs in it ...

I don't think it's a gray "skirt" on the Imperial Naval/Stormtrooper Officer. Probably a combination of the photography lighting and the differences in plastics used.

I think they are saying that they opened a case and found this chase.  They listed it as 1:48 because they opened 4 boxes.  There's likely another case with a different chase in one of the 4 boxes, just like all the other deluxe releases.

I think it is just mislabed as 1:48 when it technically should be 1:96.

I believe they are Imperial Technicians and can be seen in the first few scenes of ROTJ where Vader's ship is arriving in the control room...also note the Imperial Logos on the shoulders

Hasbro made this figure back in POTJ

Hasbro called this figure "Imperial Officer" not Imperial Technician.   Officer is a generic term for any number of ranks, including a commander.  I'm sticking with IMPERIAL COMMANDER.

I agree completely!

Maybe it is from the 3D release, and will be from a yet to be revealed new addition to the film, with all the imperial troops wearing gray kilts.

Right...I know it is geeky minutia but he's not a commander.  There was also a geeky uproar POTJ era over calling that figure Imperial Officer...technically what they put out was not an Officer

There was also a geeky uproar ...

That is a great quote! I love the idea of frantic keyboard pounding, blood pressures rising,  and the general insanity that goes with us taking these things remotely seriously- A geeky uproar strikes fear in the heart of the establishment!

I'll decide whether or not he is an officers after I find out how much I have to pay. Maybe it will be easier to take the beating if I can claim he is at least ranked, badges be damned!
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on January 27, 2012, 01:45 PM
Maybe he had to race off to battle and forgot to put his ranking badges on?  Maybe he just left the barracks without it by accident?  I forgot my employee ID badge today, but my work still let me in to do my job and no one demoted me.  ;) Maybe Vader was upset and force-ripped his badge away or it got blown off in battle?  Maybe he's a stealth commander and the badge is hidden in the undershit?  Maybe they left it blank so we could apply our own badges to have officers of different rank?

If he's just a technician, then why not have the gray jumpsuit we see in ANH?  If he is a DS Gunner or Imperial Naval Guard sans Helmet & Armor, why not give him those cooler accessories like they did with Floppy Hat Luke?  He must have some function other than "Imperial Guy in a Jumpsuit."  Does it make sense that they have some kind of low level mechanic wearing the same outfit as a commanding offer, just sans the badges?  Nonsense.

I'll decide whether or not he is an officers after I find out how much I have to pay. Maybe it will be easier to take the beating if I can claim he is at least ranked, badges be damned!

Amen.  This is what it really comes down to for me.  If he's just some Imperial flunkie, then I don't feel great about blowing hundreds of dollars on him.  If he is the reinterpretation of my beloved vintage Imperial Commander reimagined in modern Kube form, then I can totally justify the extra cash to get him.  Imperial Commander.

That chase is seriously weak.  Not so sure about rushing to shell out big money for that one...  Several releases ago, that would have been a good 4:12 figure to release.  It's too bad that its now ending up as a 1/48 or 1/96 chsae.

Post by: JediJman on January 27, 2012, 10:30 PM
I don't understand all the hate over this figure.  It certainly could have been done better, but it could have been a lot worse too.  At least it's not a lame character or another Boba Fett variation.  I think the only big flaw I see is the lack of torso detail, which honestly Jayson or someone with a half decent photoshop program could probably fix in 15 minutes.  He's essentially just Veers with different colors - Veers is one of my favorite chases, so I actually think this is pretty cool.  That said, if I get one I will probably do a little added customizing...

No as these are "in hand" photos from instinctoy and the only way that horrible torso piece could be wrong is if it's a production error. What I dislike about isnt so much the lack of detail but the different colour of the torso compared with the arms or the skirt.

For reasons beyond understanding instinctoy has now named the chase as Grand Mohsen Tarkin. I believe Mohsen is just what they call Moff.

And, of course, I want the Dignitary, and they partner him up with a chase.  ::)

Wow.  That's awful.  I'll second the vote for worst chases of all time.  I thought the DX1 chases were uninspired - red cape Bib was okay at best and the redo Fett was prett lame, but at least it was Fett.  That Black R2 is just terrible.  If I end up with that instead of the Imp in my master case I am going to be so pissed.... >:(  The only plus side here is that it at least apparently takes the place of another wasted R2.

Now wouldn't it be a gas if that auction was fake and the guy just threw in the 5pk R2 as a phony chase?

And there had been two available, so there is more than one nut out there!

Watch, the chases will go to hammerhead levels, and that will look like a great buy...

I'm not sure which I prefer, chases I really want like hammerhead at crazy prices, or reasonably priced meh pieces.
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: MikeT on January 28, 2012, 04:25 PM
On one hand I'm happy that I can save my money. I have no desire to own that black R2 even if there are small differences to the original...I didn't like it that much the first time around. To be honest, I wouldn't mind owning the Imperial flunky but I'd never pay more than $130 or so for it.

From here out I'll just get what I really like. There's a lot to like about this release. For me its the Vader, Leia, Antilles, Dignitary and the backdrop. They did an awesome job on those--if Captain Antilles was the chase we'd all be flipping our **** to get it. Just a little depressing that Medicom seems to be on hard times and/or throwing in the towel on this line...hope that isn't the case and we see more awesome SW kubs released in the future.

The only thing that would have saved that R2 chase would have been if they made it with a clear dome.  However, I'm sure it's just a two legged version of the three legged one we got in the TRU pack like Plasticlab said.

Thanks for that DSJ, I posted it over at kubricknation as confirmation of Sir Real's HK intel.

Wow, a lot of hate for the Astromech. Personally I'm thrilled when the chases are undesirable repaints, no one wants a repeat of the AT-ST Driver or Hammerhead, but I can empathise with you.

If the Imperial is packed 1/48, does any one think he'll go for the same price of Jar Jar which is the last time I remember a chase packed at that ratio? After things settled he could be bought for as low as $50, or based on the last few series am I dreaming?
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: Dan on January 28, 2012, 09:26 PM
It seems more likely that they are both 1:96, with one or the other being in each mastercase.  That was the distribution pattern for the first 3 dx series, so I expect it will hold true here too. Even if it turns out to be 1:48, an imperial troop is likely to hold a value closer to $100. Just getting a regular dx3 sandtrooper is likely to set you back $25-30.

I think lower overall production volumes are having an impact on the chase prices as well. And the fact that we don't have staggered case ratios for dx 3 and now 4 seems to be having an impact on availability of "extras." After resorting to handing out spirit Anakins as halloween treats and bar tips just to get rid of them, maybe that isn't always a bad thing. But I miss the easy army building days too.
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on January 28, 2012, 11:01 PM
Agreed - I can't see this actually being 1:48.  I would love to be proved wrong though - it would soften the blow of getting a master case to have a guaranteed Imperial Trooper in there.  I don't mind shelling out the extra dough for him.

As for the Astromech, it will be interesting to see what he goes for.  As I recall, there wasn't a lot of love for Owen with DX3, but he ended up becomming more popular over time.  These chases in particular are hard to take because they've hit it out of the park with the last 4 IMO.  I suppose we were due for a few dogs.   :-\
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: space monkey on January 28, 2012, 11:03 PM
It's probably wishful thinking on my part and you're most likely right.

Re-reading the instinct toy blog post (translated to English) it sounds like for DX4 instinctoys only got one master case this time round. The set of sixes, background and spares went up on the store (http://instinctoy.com/?mode=cate&cbid=87321&csid=0) and the chase went up on yahoo auctions (http://ord.yahoo.co.jp/o/auction/SIG=12coi4mee/EXP=1327893660;_ylt=A3JvdlIcuyRPGTwBlkZAPDh8/*-http%3A//page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p271570940).

If they only got one master case it would be hard to differentiate between a 1/48 or 1/96 chase.

I also find it curious that the ratios of the basic kubricks has not yet been listed.

This ebay auction (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Medicom-Star-Wars-DX-Series-4-Kubrick-Secret-1-48-NO-Parts-/150746737915?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231934acfb#ht_897wt_979) is using the images from instinctoys blog so it could be surmised the 1/48 info has also been lifted from there.

So if indeed this is misinformation how is this corrected? Does any individual get master cases anymore let alone multiples?

Bespin and Endor next. Where and where do they usually release the new updates for the next 2 series?

The next Medicom Toy Exhibition around July/August is you're best bet, but even then it will just be a preview not an announcement of when they'll actually arrive.

Tragically, I'm responsible for that full set.

I'm a completist at heart and even though I find the chases massively disappointing I still want them in my collection. I kicked myself for not pulling the trigger on full sets earlier on DX 2 & 3 and ended up spending more in the end...(plus my heart was broken trying to track down an Uncle Owen).

I intend selling the background card so hopefully that'll take some of the sting out of the tail of the BIN price...

I BIN'd a background card this morning for $65/free shipping. I'm probably a fool for that but you never know how scarce they'll be.

A Lackey or General Maximilian Veers (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Medicom-Star-Wars-Kubrick-DX-Series-4-SECRET-CHASE-General-Maximilian-Veers-/120851776362?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2353c36a#ht_1615wt_10290) as the seller calls it sold for a bin of $199.95.

And $3 shipping...not too bad. Anybody here grab that?

Jesse is the uniform guru around here...I'll ask him to weigh in

I've been tied up the last week with stuff and not had a chance to chime in, and I didn't actually read the entire thread because there's a lot of pages to go through and I'm just now getting on here at 12:30.  Blah.

As far as the character it's weird...  the shoulders clearly have the Imperial Logo and no rank, which I tend to lean that the figure's intent was to be what ultimately turned out (IMO) to be Imperial Gunners sans the armor/helmet...  Or any other guy who wears the black jumpsuit with shoulder logos for that matter, but without his typical helmet/armor.

There are some Imperial Bridge Crewmen on destroyers in the black jumpsuits with shoulder patches and black kepi hats as well.

But the first time that Imperial uniform surfaced was in A New Hope...  The guys tracking the escape pods from the Tantive IV, are actually the first time they show Imperials in black jumpsuits...  Can't see any rank badges.  That's where the theory came up though that those are maybe Gun crewmen just without the fancy helmets (manning a different type of cannon perhaps, that requires less hardware for the crewman to wear, or whatever).

Then there's the bridge crew and the Death Star guys standing at attention too.

Then there are "Death Star Troopers" on Endor, working the shield generator, who sport the DST helmet but wear the black jumpsuit (could be just coveralls for a possibly more grimey job than the DST's we see manning posts on the Death Star itself).

Then by contrast the "Imperial Commanders" in black tunics we see in the movies do seem to all have rank badges and the tunic/jadgpur combination, and no shoulder logos (they're listed in EU as "Stormtrooper Officers").  Nobody in the tunics have that actually, just the guys in jumpsuits be they grey or black.

The "skirt" thing makes it look more like the generic "Imperial Commander" name, but the shoulder emblems and lack of detail on the body (to look like a tunic) imply that he's more that "Technician/Gunner" outfit.

Got my shipping confirmation notice on the HLJ order that I CANCELLED.  Anyone know what their return policy is?  I emailed right away to halt any further shipment before it leaves the country.  No notice yet from NCSX, but they are always a bit later than the other guys.

I just canceled my pre-order with NCSX for a box of 12.  I just don't think the chance to get a chase is worth the cost of buying two sets.  I'm just going to pick up a set of 6 plus the Build a Fig and be done with the wave.

Good move Brent-

As poor as the chases seem to be, I am still pretty jazzed by the basic 6. And I agree with the comment made earlier that if Antilles had been a chase, we would all be dropping $300 to get him. The TIE pilot is such a good throwback to the vintage figure. Leia is a big improvement over the toilet paper dress version from the early bird set. Vader looks supremely retro and will be great with the dx3 Ben. And antilles is a great addition, sort of the Garindan of this wave. The Dignitary is pretty cool too, and again, I'm glad he didn't end up being the chase- he would have gone for insane prices as well.

Getting every figure I want from a kubrick wave for less than $100 is actually looking pretty good!

That's actually a really great way to look at this.  Witht he exception of R2, the other 5 figures are really solid, and all would have likely commanded a nice price as chases.  Better that they give us the best of the line as regular offerings and save the mediocre figures as harder to get I think.  I do wish there was more of the Imp available though - sorry to see the prices he is already going for.   :P

I considered cancelling my box of 12 as well, but then decided to keep it. Figured I'd give fate a chance to hook me up with Maximillian Veers for free, cuz I ain't buying him. If I don't get a chase hopefully I can sell the other set of 6 and break even.

Maybe it's my nature, but I just have to disagree.  I'm glad you guys are fired up and looking at this stuff as positive.  To me however I'm seeing Hasbro deja vu all over again.

Leia is better, but I think the early bird set is fine and while yeah, an improvement is welcome, it's not really necessary.

Another Vader?  Really?  Cuz we were all hoping for it?  I'm sort of ok with it if it's a more vintage-y version but I still don't find it necessary.

Another Tie Pilot?  ****, I still have five from the previous release I never moved.  We complain about $10-11 Hasbro figures for rehashes but because it's from Japan $14 is ok?  Not for me.

R2?  Yawn should cover it because we only have how many of him/it?

I'm good with Antilles (though not a figure I could personally care about owning) and the Dignitary though but I can wait for a $60 set some time down the road.  The chases?  They suck.  'Nuff said.

Crustily yours...

Some good points, but I still say the pemican and AT-ST driver are making you focus on the bitter tastes.

My first reaction to the vinyl/vintage re-does was an eye roll. But Ben is great, and I look forward to a vader to match. Honestly, the line can't survive on characters only seen for .7 seconds or that made it on to a CCG card. At least they have found a way to bring the main characters back in to the fold with some creativity (retro), rather than repacks (R2 has no business here though), unless he came with a holo leia, or something else unique (at least DX2 gave him a prop shot glass set).

What we want is often based on what we already have, but the series would dry up if they only let themselves try to make something that hasn't been made before. And we would (and) have cried foul at repacks, as many of us shelled out big bucks for things like han/luke stormie, etc.

I may not buy them all anymore, but I still find this line far more interesting than Hasbro's generally regurgitated and vomited offerings (CW being the exception for me).

I agree. The early bird set is awesome, they're like the "vintage" kubricks now. These new vintage reboots aren't meant to improve upon the old ones (like Hasbro replacing their shoddy sculpts with less shoddy sculpts), they're just a different style. They are a cash grab, but they're probably necessary to keep the line going, and luckily, in my opinion, they look great.

Morgbug, I agree that the TIE Pilot, R2 etc are in no way cool or necessary. And that Medicom has removed the fun from being a completist and made it more of a costly chore. Still hope you stick around and rekindle your cranky love for kubricks. I always enjoyed your posts from reading back to old threads from the glory days, when you bastards were cracking open $200 master cases like there was no tomorrow. Wish I had been collecting at that time!

I noticed that yesterday. They also updated the Imperial as also being 1/96. No surprise really.

And that prices me out of that chase. I'd rather get the Series 6 Veers at half the price.

Truer words.

I remain seriously bitter about the AT-ST driver and absolutely it is coloring my views of Kubrickland.  Owen I could live without easily enough as it wasn't a vintage figure.  $400+ for a Kubrick that should have simply been a regular in the series?   >:(

Also a Full Set with Background Card  (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Medicom-Star-Wars-DX-Series-4-Kubrick-FULL-SET-Background-Card-/160725794764?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256c00ffcc#ht_695wt_1263) bin'd at $599.99.

The Imperial Commander on Ebay sold today for $255.  Anyone here get him?  I forgot about it until now, but wouldn't have gone that high anyway.  Looking at the bid history, there were 3 final bids all within 1 second of each other.  The last second sniping drove the price up almost $100 from $165 just before close.   :o  I was hoping the going rate would be a bit lower with all the dissatisfaction I've been hearing...

DX4 Chase guesses...

Black Uniform Imperial Officer

Well done, Jay!   8)

I was bound to be right one way or another  :P

My guesses if it's ANH based:

Dirty Luke in Stormtrooper Disguise with wet hair and dianoga tentacle wrapped around his neck
Death Star Duel Obi-Wan Kenobi w/hood up
Luke and/or Han with Stormtrooper utility belts
Black Uniform Imperial Officer
Leia with ITO-Droid
Porkins

BAD: Death Star Trench Gun or Turbo Laser  :P

I'm going to guess chases now for this series:

Princess Leia Yavin Ceremony (in Leia box)
Captain Antilles (in RFT box)
Space Trooper (in TIE Pilot box)

:P

My guesses:

Motti or Janus Greejatus in Dignitary box
Porkins or Biggs in TIE Fighter Pilot box

Also I got my background card in the mail today. Opened it up and found it was creased in a couple of spots! Not too majorly noticeable but I was still pretty bummed. I rechecked the listing and the seller stated that if insurance isn't purchased they take no responsibility for damage.  Oh well, no big deal, but its frustrating that they just stuck it in a bubble mailer along with 1 piece of cardboard not even the length of the display...  >:(

Man, that's terrible.  I recently bought a set of 9 cards (9 piece vintage wacky packages checklist/puzzle actually) off ebay, and, most sellers stack them, put them in a cheap plastic case (which is good since it's an inexpensive, rigid little box that protects), then put that in a cardboard shipping box, for mailing.

This seller left the cards in a cheap, old 3x3 binder sleeve, and then just put the sleeve in an envelope and mailed that, with not even a reinforcing piece of cardboard.  I emailed them saying how careless and thoughtless that was, and their response was: "oh, sorry, I'm new to ebay and still learning how to ship stuff."

I really only needed one piece of that puzzle, and that particular card wasn't damaged.  But man, some people simply just don't care.

Oh yeah, my set of DX4, the basic 6 and both chases (no background), is on the way.  Got all 8 figs for $489 shipped.  My guy comes through again. =) Although, he had a really difficult time this time putting together a complete set.  Was this a lower production run this time, did shops get shorted?  He made it seem like they weren't nearly as plentiful as the last series.  Not just the chases, but cases overall (although fewer cases also means fewer chases.)

Anyway, I'm glad to have secured these guys.

Congrats on getting your full set at that price--you are a lucky man to have that overseas connection! I wonder if production's down or if more sellers were after cases to resell, after seeing how high stuff sold for with DX3. DX4 did seem like there were fewer available preorders and stuff, but I feel like I've seen more DX4 chases and full sets on ebay and yahoo than I did for DX3.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of Medicom headquarters for a day... (and speak Japanese.) :)

My dx4 purchase arrived today. I'm happy to have them as part of my collection but overall the selection is pretty bland.

The Vader and Leia are really nice figures, as is the Tiefighter pilot. I really like the dignitary too but it's still a fairly basic figure. While I like the Antilles figure the helmet seems to sit very high on mine which makes it look as if he has a massive forehead. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has this problem. The R2 is a complete waste of a slot...

The two chases are also uninspiring...the imperial lackey has grown on me but I still feel like they could have done more.

The probot looks amazing and has great detail but it is still my least favourite build a figure by far...

All the same, it's always good to get new star wars kubricks...here's hoping that DX5 raises the bar!!!

I got my basic set today. I didn't realise R2's head spins/swivels kinda neat. As for Antilles my kub is fine but the head on my friends looks big. I'm gonna have a closer look then report back.

*edit*

I've just compared my Antilles to my friends and it would appear that the hair piece in the helmet is too small for the head so it doesn't fit on as snug as it should. Not really sure how to fix it.

Arrived they have!   ;D

Very nice set... Antilles helmet is a tad small for his head so might have to sand the head down to get a proper fit... the Imperial Lackey is not bad but still a bland chase... R2-AMP-U-T chase is ok, the head rotates like R2`s... others are fine but that Probot is fricken` awesome... overall, very happy with the set...  8)

Now bring on the carded TC-14 & DX5 with hopefully better chases...  :-\

MC arrived when I got back from work. After previous MC buying experience from the other DX series the first box I opened was from the far left, or as I call it Box 1

Surprise surprise, bagged the Imperial Astromech Droid

A regular R2-D2 from the same Box 1

Congrats on the Dark Droid of the Sith, Kay!

I opened my Master Case this morning.  NCS is such a pro.  They included a note to let me know they had opened the master case just to include the invoice, but left everything else the way they received it.  The display was nicely backed against a large cardboard piece to protect it and is mint off the press.

From Kay's photo above, I opened the Boxes in the same order 1, 2, 3, & 4.  Nothing in boxes 1-3, but I pulled the Imperial Officer from Box 4.   8) ;D 8) ;D 8) ;D 8)

Past assortments have had all kinds of random packing I think, but this one was pretty predictable.  Here's the layout of the first three boxes:

Here's the layout of the last box with the Imperial chase:

Not sure how the box with the R2 was stacked, but if you open a box with the dignitaries next to each other, you likely do not have the Imperial chase.  Now, to work on some rank badges.

Like everyone else, I was very disapointed in the inclusion of R2, but the ability to turn his head is a nice upgrade.  Definitely makes for improved poses.  Makes me want that Black Astromech a bit more as well.  I haven't opened the others yet, but will hopefully have more time to dig in this weekend.

If anyone's interested, I still have a full basic set of figures plus probot for $85.  I also have spares of R2, Leia, Antiles, Tie Pilot, and Vader All gone!  Steve - I am working on getting another dignitary for you.

I would like to add to the layout of the box I pulled the black droid and similar to JediJman layout, R2 was split

R2-D2, TIE, TIE
Antilles, Leia, Leia
Antilles, Digitary, Dignitary
Vader, Vader, R2-D2

JediJman out curiosity did you have a number written on your MC? Something like " C/NO...... "

Mine was C/NO. 168 on the outside of the box. Wanted to know and find out if this had any bearing on the chase you get. Even number Droid and Odd Imperial Lackey

I will check on that when I get home.  Was it hand written on your case?  The original shipping label to NCS was torn off and replaced with a NCS shipping label, so if it was on there, I don't have it.  I will check though...

48 Pcs(Inner x 4)

C/No. ? ? ?

It should be printed on both side of the box

Thanks Mike! I was a little worried I wouldn't get him or somehow the dreaded no-chase-case, so pretty stoked to find the Imp in one of those last boxes.

You may be onto something there, Kay.  My MC is case #345.

I'd probably be interested if not for that stinking R2.

He's cooler than you'd think with the turning head and 3 legs.  Too bad they didn't give him a pop up lightsaber or sensor scope though.  I'm putting together the Probe Droid now - he's pretty slick.

Bummer.  I just don't trust HLJ.  I'm sure people have found chases from them before, but per the discussion above, you can easily tell where the chase boxes are after opening a few. They refuse to send out a Master Case and seems like their ratio on delivering chases here is the lowest - just seems shady to me.

Ever since they first told you they wouldn't do a sealed MC I was thinking that too. But I thought a few peeps here had said they pulled chases from hlj boxes, so I gave it a shot, esp. since they had the lowest price ($186 shipped, SAL.) My box was packed like the charts above, with the 2 dignitaries next to each other. Anybody else get an HLJ box this time around?

(I know you were talking to Justin but I'd like to answer too.  :)) I don't think it would be shady, since they haven't made any claim that they're not doing that. But it would be lame. Selling weeded out sealed boxes is for bottom feeders, not leading retail sites.
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: space monkey on February 15, 2012, 09:38 PM
Why would HLJ isolate the box containing the chase from the master case when they only sell sealed boxes? It's all the same to them.

Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: DSJ™ on February 15, 2012, 09:47 PM
I agree with you, I have dealt with HLJ for anything they have & Kubricks back in the day before RoBBie was cheaper... Series 1 was a single box but after that it was a sealed MC tho I did get 1 time 4 boxes but in another box which turned out all good in the end as it looked like they transferred the boxes from the MC to another... put a real scare into me but other than that, no problems...  unless they are just opening MC's & stocking shelves/orders, they have no idea what chases are in what box as mentioned the boxes are sealed... it's random for a single box of 12...
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on February 15, 2012, 10:34 PM
I am not saying HLJ is shady.  I don't have any evidence of that.  But I find it really wierd that they refuse to ship a sealed master case or even guarantee that you will get 4 boxes from one case.  I asked about both options and they refused.  I have been half-ass tracking people's chases on here since the last few waves of regular series Kubes and there just seems to be less coming from HLJ than NCS or other vendors, at least on this site.

Officially yes, they only sell full boxes.  And given the chase layout (Box 1 for the Droid, Box 4 for the Officer), someone could order 4 boxes and easily not get a chase through no intended scamming (boxes 2-4 of the first case and box 1 of the next, etc.).  But we seemed to have cracked the case code, with even # cases getting one chase and odd # cases getting the other.

Has it always been this way?  If so, it would be easy enough for them to open 8 boxes to see where the chase box is. I'm sure at least a few people that work there are collectors or maybe they open them for photos or whatever.  The point is, once you know the layout, you can separate out the chase boxes and ship out the common ones.  Maybe they keep the chases for themselves.  Maybe they sell them locally on the side.  Maybe they even send some through that they don't need or to show that sometimes you can get a case from HLJ.  Heck, do we know that the guys selling on yahoo-japan or Ebay don't work at HLJ?  What do they do with all the inserts that they refuse to include?

Like I said, I don't have any proof that they're doing any of this.  Just a funny feeling about what I've seen from them over the years and the opportunity is obviously there given their odd policies.  I was tempted to order from them given the price, but I will gladly go with NCS and pay a premium to ensure there is no funny business going on.

Picked up my dx4 kubs from Justin yesterday, and I am absolutely loving Vader! I consider this the best vader in my star wars collection, period. I love the vintage look,  it is simple, clean, and looks like a 1977 kubrick. The cape seems to be a slightly thinner version of Ben's material, and feels just right.
The others are all pretty good- Leia's great, the TIE pilot is a nice vintage nod too. The dignitary is great alongside some Royal guards. R2 is a slight improvement over the early bird version, but needed an extra prop to be worth a slot (how about a holo leia or screen with the death star plans?). Antilles needs a partial lobotomy to fit in to his hair/helmet correctly, but I like him leading the blue shirts into futile battle.  ;D

I have a spare Dignitary I'm holding for you, but ended up breaking up that last set.  All I have left of it is Vader, Antiles, and the Probe Droid.  Kinda funny - I thought I would be stuck with 1-2 extra R2s and they were the first the get scooped up.

Ok...  what the heck is up with the BAF Probe Droid?

I'll grant you that it is fantastic... but it can't possibly be the right scale for this line.  I mean, after seeing this thing all assembled and in my hands, I think I'll be selling my Hasbro 3.75" version and just using this one with my Hasbro Hoth shelf since it looks ridiculous on my Kubrick Hoth shelf.  It practically dwarfs the AT-ST.

It's awesome.... but a little disappointing that it's not really a Kubrick scale version.   Or is my sense of scale off so far thanks to the past Hasbro versions?  Should it be so ginourmous compared to the Kubies?  :-\
Title: Re: Deluxe Series 4 - Death Star
Post by: JediJman on February 19, 2012, 11:13 PM
It's listed as being 1.6 meters tall versus a 2.2 meter Wookie - defintiely a bit over scaled in the Kubrick version.  The AT-ST isn't the best comparison though, seeing as how it only fits one figure and is much too short.  I definitely like the Viper, but it was a poor choice for this wave.  Too big and just not a good fit with the rest of the Death Star figures.  They should have just made it smaller and one of the regular figures.  I liked Jeff's Dianoga idea or how about a little trash compactor room?  If they do a Bespin wave I sure hope they go back to something like the Cloud Car.  I'd even go for a cool Carbon Freezing Chamber.

I appreciate the tie pilot side by side.

Not being interested in the vintage-esque tie (and turning down your offer to buy yours  ;)) it's nice to see the comparison with out actually having to buy it  ;D

It's interesting to see there's definitely some minor differences and it's not a straight repaint.

Nice pics Justin!

I'm revamping my kubrick set-ups, and still not sure how it's all going to lay out. I've been setting them up in the plastic model car/airplane display cases on shelves, which really helps keep the dust issue under control, but limits how they can be arranged. I think I'm going to do some hunting for an old school trophy case or something...

Yep.  That is the Death Star Space Station with the trash compactor pulled out.  I'd know it anywhere, I have three (at one time I was trying to make a complete pie of them :P).  It's great for displays.

Correctamundo!  I set them up in my vintage DS for a while.  Funny, I ended up nabbing three as well to make a Death Star wall of sorts.  I think the old Trash Compactor looks goofy in all three, but otherwise makes for a slick display piece.

As for the TIP Pilots, I thought it was a straight repaint the first time I looked at it.  I really like how they were true to the vintage vs. POTF2 chest plates though.

Every time I see a picture of that imperial Offocer chase, I can't help but think it looks half finished. Why didn't they at least paint some clothing lines in the upper torso.

Anyway, sorry to side track your question. I don't have this chase so I can say anything about the similarities.
