Wow!
Loose & Carded Pics @ Galactic Hunter (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=5839&zoneid=2)
I LOVE the flames on R2-D2! :)
-
I just checked them all out. The winner in the wave is Mace for me. It's about time we get the SA version.
-
SA Mace. Finally. And the headsculpt doesn't have that dopey look on his face.
I like the "new" Obi Wan as well. Not sure if I'll get him though.
Galactic Marine and Mustafar Lava Miner are definate buys.
R2-D2 looks like the Titanium Figure.
-
I LOVE the flames on R2-D2! :)
Ugh.
We finally get the new astromech sculpt for Artoo, and he's got those silly rockets and an absolutely terrible paint job. I really hope this wasn't the same one Hasbro mentioned in the Q & A a few weeks ago.
Any other Artoos rumored for next year so far?
I just want a goddamn clean Artoo using the Sneak Preview astromech sculpt. Is that just too much to ask for?
Everything else looks pretty good--especially Mace, although it always kind of sucks when you can't see what they look like underneath the soft goods. Hopefully that right hand is removable. And it doesn't look like he's gonna have the removable hilt that can be stuck to his belt, which is unfortunate. Oh well--still easily the best Mace to date.
-
R2-D2 looks like the Titanium Figure.
It does? (http://www.jedidefender.com/gallery/files/gallery/Conventions/San_Diego_Comic_Con_2006/Hasbro/DSC09628.jpg)
-
They way they have it set up. Yes.
-
The concept is similar, sure, but they look nothing alike. The Titanium version looks much nicer.
-
Any other Artoos rumored for next year so far?
There is supposed to be a Stormtrooper Luke/R2-D2 2-pack in second wave of the "Comics Packs" series...
I guess I assumed this wasn't what Hasbro was talking in the Q&A about because this R2 has completely different legs than the sneak preview sculpt... :-\
-
I suppose I need the new Mace. Although if the one in the Windu Squadron battle pack doesn't suck too bad, maybe I can pass on the SA.
I doubt Obi-Wan is enough of an improvement over the ROTS Pilot sculpt that I'd need this one.
I've never had a big hard-on for the Galactic Marine like many of you, but now that I see him he does look pretty darn spiffy so I need one to go with Bacara.
Flaming R2 and the lava miner look extremely cool, but so far I'm unsure if either one constitutes a "need".

Oh, God. Don't remind me.

If the jets are sculpted onto the legs (which I assume they are), then yeah.
If this is the same one they were talking about, man, what a letdown.
Might make a good followup question. . . :)
-
I don't know if it is the combination of just seeing some new figures, or anticipating the next line, but the first wave looks pretty nice to me. The Galactic Marine and Lava Miner are still looking great, and the new Mace is long overdue. The R2 looks pretty cool the way it is set up as well, although I hope this isn't the use of the sneak preview mold we've been told about either. The Obi-Wan looks pretty good too, and if they're going to "repack/retool" figures, I'm glad they use a figure like this. I hate to admit it though, but I might end up being a sucker for these coins too. Hopefully I won't "have to" have them all though. The whole wave looks pretty nice overall though, and I'm looking forward to seeing the OT offerings for the 30th anniversary.
-
Either way (jets = sculpted or jets = plug-ins), those legs on R2-D2 appear to be new/different from the preview droid sculpt.
I still like it for what it is, but I don't like it if it means we're not getting the "plain" sneak preview sculpt R2-D2 instead.
-
It looks like Jedi Insider (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=9816) has the entire wave up, including the Airborne Trooper, McQuarrie Stormie, and a Super Battle Droid. Looks like the McQuarrie trooper has been changed up since the previous release.
-
Super Battle Droid! :o

Yeah, looks like he's gray-and-white now instead of black-and-white. Fancier paint-job on the shield as well...
I think I'm in for 2x each (loose and carded) for all 8 of these wave 1 figures. They all actually look really great and there don't appear to be any straight re-packs which is a refreshing change...
ps.
It looks like the figure #s are imprinted right on the coin - I can read a few of them, but the coin art is obscuring the figure number for some...
#02 Galactic Marine
#04 R2-D2
#05 Obi-Wan Kenobi
#06 Mace Windu
#07 Utapau Airborne Trooper
#XX Mustafar Lava Miner
#XX Super Battle Droid
#XX Concept Stormtrooper
-
Wow, this wave looks nice! Definitely getting Mace, the Marine, McQuarry, Airborne!! Not sure about R2, though... But I like the look of the sculpts on the coins, but I hope they're not flimsy.
-
The only ones I'm interested in are the McQuarrie Trooper, SBD, and the Lava Miner.
-
Getting Mace, an Airborne Trooper, a few Marines, and some Concept Stormies. The rest I'll be passing on until further info about the figures are revealed.
Hats off to Hasbro for the Mace though. I can't believe the best Mace prior to this one was made 8 years ago.
-
This really is a good looking wave. I'm really impressed with the new paintjob on the McQuarrie trooper. Much more faithful to his ideas.
I'm not liking the cards as much as I thought I would. They're a bit too garish for me. No big deal, they're headed for the trash.
Anyway, are these expected for Christmas, like so many other change over cards? Or will actually come out in Januaury?
-
RS has some nice big high res shots (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/30th_Anniversary_Collection_In_HiRez_100452.asp)
I like the Mace, but sure as **** the face sculpt still doesn't look much like Samuel L. to me.
Everything else looks really good. Galactic Marine is off the heezy.
-

I could have sworn I read somewhere in one of the Q&A's that the 30th line won't start until April/May. I couldn't find the Q&A entry though, so who knows.
I just realized they FINALLY gave Obi-Wan the correct color ankle joints. Still passing though, I've already bought him 3 times.
-
The airborne trooper is a big "Duh!" for me. I'll probably want the SBD and McQuarrie trooper as well, although they're of a lower priority.
-

Oh. Sweet.
-
I suppose I need the new Mace. Although if the one in the Windu Squadron battle pack doesn't suck too bad, maybe I can pass on the SA.
The BP Mace does suck that bad. It's the EIII version with a cloak on it.
I'm a little suspicious that the SA Mace is the same body as the Obi Wan in this wave.
-
I'm getting Mace no doubt. Most likely I'll be buying multiples.
I'm probably gonna buy R2 and the Lava Miner as well.
The SBD looks sweet--if the flames are removable, I'm getting a few.
Obi-Wan is okay, but his electrostaff is awesome!
The 3 clones are boring for me. After the BARC trooper comes out, I'm gonna try to never buy any clones. Ever.
-
If Wave I is any indication on figure quality for 2006 I'm happy as a clam myself... Articulation looks outstanding on everything from teh Super Battledroid to the Galactic Marine to the Lava Miner (though it's tough to tell on him what moves and what doesn't exactly).
I just hope they improve over 2006 because this year's articulation obviously was a let down to me...
I like almost all of that wave though... I'll get Obi-Wan just because it's different enough for me to want one. I'm loving the Windu figure, and the Marine... The Super Battledroid is looking sharp too though I'm curious how that right arm poses.
Interesting unveiling of the first wave for 2007... Got my hopes going for the classic figures we should see next year.
-
I will probably get at least 2 of everything here, and many, many, of the clones, concept trooper, and the SBD. I can't wait! When are these expected to hit? November? December?
-
I'm thinking December-January, kind of like when the first TSC waves hit.
-
Wow, just saw the pics for Wave 1 and am verrry impressed. Definitely buying multiples of Mace and Galactic Marines as well as the Airborne Trooper.
Definitely thinking Galactic Marine is the best of the wave, the paint on that one is superb. Looks to be super articulated as well.
Can't wait til January, that's when the first wave of TSC hit in my area.
-
Maybe it's the designer in me, but I like the packaging for the "Signature Series" McQuarrie Trooper the best. I really dig the drafting/mockup look to the SW logo and the McQuarrie Signature is a great touch.
Hmmm, I wonder if we will get concepts from other artists like Joe Johnston, Doug Chang, Rob Coleman, Trisha Biggar (Padme Concepts anyone) or Ryan Church.
-
Did Rob Coleman work on designs? I thought that he was just lead animator,
-
Did Rob Coleman work on designs? I thought that he was just lead animator,
True, but I'm sure he animated characters that were ultimately dropped/edited, so it would be nice to see one or two of those to get immortalized in plastic. ;)
-
I think this might be the first time in recent memory that I can say I will definitely be buying all eight figures from the wave. That Obi-Wan is still one of my favorite figures from the modern line, and the fact that he's got an accessory I've been wanting for a while (the MagnaGuard fart-stick with the electrical discharges) makes him a no-brainer for me.
The concept art stuff has always been interesting to me since I was a kid (one of the coolest things for me in the prequels has been seeing older, OT-era designs done by RMQ or JJ show up in some form, from the Juggernaut/Turbo Tank to the sinkholes on Utapau), so I'm thinking I might for the first time do a carded set of the concept figures in addition to the loose ones.
Mace is long overdue, as are the Airborne Trooper and the Marine; R2-D2 looks really nice to me, a near-SA SBD is needed (one can only hope the Droideka and the regular BD get the same treatment next year), and the Lava Miner is very interesting visually, and looks to be a good figure overall as well.
Dare I say that Hasbro has finally hit a wave of figures out of the ballpark?
-
Man...I'm ******* psyched for a new SBD, with poseable arms and the correct COLOR!!! I'm hoping the plastic is better so this guy can finally stand. Those Episode2 SBDs fall over constantly. I really like the SBDs (they're kind of like the Cylon Centurions of the Confederacy), and I can't wait to increase my seperatist troops finally!
And Mace, at long last...its enough to bring a tear to my eye!
-
I think this might be the first time in recent memory that I can say I will definitely be buying all eight figures from the wave.
I am with you on that DoctorPadawan. I usually pass on one or so figures on the past waves. The two concerns I have are the new cards being bent more easily for carded collectors and the scalping with the Mcquarrie stormtrooper if short packed. I still remember what a ***** it was hunting for the first version.
-
I still remember what a ***** it was hunting for the first version.
I never ever saw this figure on the pegs... only saw it when Jedijaybird showed me his loose one at his home a few months back. :( Oh well, I'll have another chance at it now. :)
-
This is the way to start 2007- what a super wave!
Unlike 2006 (repack, new version of monkey face, repack, new version-poor-scale-dopey face, repack, repack) or (Barada, Leia, Chewie, Han carbonite, Bib, Boba)
Put me down for a case, I will put off quitting Hasbro for a little while longer.
-
The Super Battle Droid looks like it has a lot of potential. The legs still look a tad flimsy, but I looks like they nailed the upper body and the overall color.
Has it hit anybody that this is the third wave in a row, (counting the last two non-exclusive of TSC,) that has 3 or more armybuilders in it?
-
Any word on what the case assortment is on this wave?
-
No case assortments just yet that I have seen, but knowing Hasbro it's probably something like this...
3x Obi-Wan
2x Mace
2x R2-D2
1x Lava Miner
1x Galactic Marine
1x Utapau Airborne Clone
1x Super Battle Droid
1x McQuarrie Stormie
:-X

1x McQuarrie Stormie

I knew someone would be clever enough to come up with that one. Worse yet, you're probably right.
There is only 1 breakdown that makes any sense to me. Hopefully it will be this:
1x Obi-Wan
1x Mace
1x R2-D2
1x Lava Miner
2x Galactic Marine
2x Utapau Airborne Clone
2x Super Battle Droid
2x McQuarrie Stormie
-
Perfect case assortment:
2x Galactic Marine
2x McQuarrie Stormtrooper
2x Super Battle Droid
2x Mustafar Lava Miner
1x Obi-Wan (Utapau Sinkhole)
1x R2-D2
1x Mace Windu
1x Airborne Trooper
-
yeah it is the perfect wave, i just hope their able to keep it up...i prefer kitbash over repack any day, month, year and or decade.
-
Perfect case assortment:
2x Mustafar Lava Miner
1x Airborne Trooper
How do you figure? You think the Lava Miner is going to outsell the clone?
No chance.
-

To me the Lava Miner is a more interesting and better figure than the Airborne Clone.

I disagree bc the airborne trooper is my fav clone but we

-
Looking at these figures again, R2 is the only dissapointment in the bunch. I don't like the yellow glow painted on him because it makes him too scene specific. Take away the flames, and the glow is is out if place. The rest are really nice.
-

1x Airborne Trooper

Okay, that may be. And I know you have the same anti-clone, quirky taste for the Naboo hangar guy citing him as a Top 5 All Time Army Builder. But still, despite your quirky preferences, you must realize that 95% of the other collectors are going to be buying many multiples of the Airborne clone, and not nearly as many of the Lava Miner. That should be obvious. Having said that, a "perfect" case assortment cannot have 1 clone, and 2 miners. It just makes no sense whatsoever.
-
And it doesn't help that it's an all new clone either, not just a repaint.
-
I suppose I need the new Mace.
I think the Kenobi has a ball joint waist which Hasbro says Mace dosen't.
I can't wait for this wave! I'm buying every figure! ;D I hope the rest of next year is like this!
-
And it doesn't help that it's an all new clone either, not just a repaint.
Actually, the Airborne Trooper is a repaint of the Mace's Squadron BP Clone Commander.
-
Which I think is a re-hash of the EVO clone. :P
I really hope this wave is like Carkoon & peg warms. So I can find the figures.
-
My perfect assortment:
1x Obi-Wan
2x Mace
1x R2-D2
2x Lava Miner
2x Galactic Marine
1x Utapau Airborne Clone
2x Super Battle Droid
1x McQuarrie Stormie
-
I really hope this wave is like Carkoon & peg warms. So I can find the figures.
If it didnt have Clones or Troopers in it, it possibly would warm.
-
Hasbro's assortment:
x 2 Obi-Wan
x 1 Mace Windu
x 2 R2-D2
x 3 Mustafar Miner ::)
x 1 Galactic Marine
x 1 Airborne Trooper
x 1 Super Battle Droid
x 1 McQuarrie Trooper
Me:
x 1 Obi-Wan
x 2 Mace Windu
x 1 R2-D2
x 1 Mustafar Miner (He's gonna be the Lushros of next year, too bad he looks great)
x 2 Galactic Marine
x 2 Airborne Trooper
x 1 Super Battle Droid
x 2 McQuarrie Trooper
Revision Case:
x 4 Galactic Marine
x 3 Airborne Trooper
x 1 McQuarrie Trooper
x 1 Mustafar Miner
-
I have to say these look really good and I will be buying them all because i want the coin set.
-
x 3 Mustafar Miner ::)
I would actually like that.
x 1 Mustafar Miner (He's gonna be the Lushros of next year, too bad he looks great)
How can he become next year's Lushros? He looks amazing...and everyone loves Separatists! ;D
-
Hasbro finally put together a great wave!!! And I thought this years Coruscant wave was good. Well, here's my thoughts on the figures in this wave, even though ya'll most likely don't care:
Airborne Commando: I really like this guy. The removable pouch is a very nice touch. I don't like how he has the older style Clone Trooper rifle, while the Galactic Marine has the Evolution Set rifle.
Concept Storm Trooper: I really want to pick up at least two of these guys. I saw the original once in a Target, but this guy blows the old one out of the water. I really hope that he's not short packed.
Super Battle Droid: Wow. That was a surprise. This is a great looking figure. I'm definitely getting two to go with R2, but maybe another 20 if the flames are removable. Now all we need is a Battle Droid similar to that.
Mace Windu: He looks pretty well detailed. I like the lightning on his lightsaber, and I'm so glad Hasbro gave him a soft goods cloak. Hopefully his articulation is similar to that of Pilot Obi-Wan Kenobi, or at least Evolutions Anakin.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now i won't feel bad about buying a repack. I like the breating apparatus and the new electro-pole, and I'm glad that his mouth is not too big. He may go great with the Demise of Grievous figure. The picture on his card is pretty sweet, as well.
Galactic Marine: An excellent figure, I'll say. Perhaps the best of this wave. I really think that the Super Articulation and Removable Back Pack are nice touches. I have the same issue with the rifle as the Airborne Commando, though.
R2-D2: A cool figure that will look nice next to two of those Super Battle Droids. I like the rocket jets better than those on the Revenge of the Sith R2.The paint job on this new one is kind of funky looking, in my opinion.
Lava Miner: Why couldn't the Mustafar Sentry be this good? Oh well, they'll go nice together. I hope the lave bucket can come off of the grabbing tool. That would be cool.
-
As I was looking at the SBD, I really think the flames are removable. If you look at the package, he has a little rubber band around the torso flames, hopefully meaning that they need to be held in place, which means removable flames. Hopefully...
-
I like most of the figures in this wave. But is anyone else going to be swayed by the coin itself? I think it will get me to buy yet another damn R2-D2.
-

I agree. This is a great wave and it's hard not to not like any of the figures. I know I will pass on R2 and maybe the SBD, but I really want the troopers and the new Mace and Obi-Wan... but the coins look sweet. I liked them way back in the 80s and they are so tempting now.
The assortment will have at least 2x the main characters, and 2x one other figure (not sure which, but I'd say it wouldn't be the Lava Miner and Concept Trooper). Probably will be a Cantina Han repack (j/k). Actually, I'll go with the Galactic Marine!
x2 Obi-Wan
x2 R2
x2 Mace
x1 Airborne
x1 Lava Miner
x1 Super Battle Droid
x2 Galactic Marine
x1 Concept Trooper
-
Wow, Hasbro really surprised me with this one...
Star Wars 30th Anniversary Figures Wave 1 @ EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/aff-home.asp?id=JE-405087801&number=HS87500A):
2x Galactic Marine
2x Utapau Airborne Trooper
2x Obi-Wan Kenobi
2x R2-D2
1x Mustafarian Lava Miner
1x McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper
1x Mace Windu
1x Super Battle Droid
I thought for sure Mace would be 2x per case, very cool to stick both the Airborne and Marine in there at 2x per case instead. :)
Not cool to see a bit of a price hike on that pre-order though. Up to $84 for a case instead of $80. >:(
-
Wow...the Mace and SBD look really cool.
EDIT: To Rune below....are you actually surprised and think someone at Hasbro is going to see that and change their mind on this issue or what? I'm curious.
-
1 SBD per case but 2 Kenobis & Artoos WTF?

Yeah they did a decent job on that case assortment, at least the clones are 2 per case. Smart move, they're gonna fly.
-
And the bright side is that we can look for a solid case of Vaders to clog the shelves just as these hit. ::)
-
And the bright side is that we can look for a solid case of Vaders to clog the shelves just as these hit. ::)
But the Vader's only packed in with the coin album, is it not? Meaning it should be a shelf item as opposed to a peg item? That's the impression that I got--that to get the coin album, you have to buy the Vader, too, and vice versa.
Maybe I'm just misreading things (hey, it's early), but I wouldn't think the Vader/coin album would really have any effect on keeping anything else on or off the pegs. . .
-

I agree with Matt.
According to the Target folks I know, the 2007 basic figures have a whole separate DPCI number than Coin Album Vader does. That means they are on completely different order schedules and a surplus of one shouldn't keep the other from being ordered...
-
Looks like another price increase for next year. Probably because of the metal coins.
Keep your pack-ins and give us $5 figures.
-
At $84 a case, that comes out to exactly $7 a figure. So I'm guessing figures will be priced at around $7.30 in stores... :-\
-
Figures are up individually at BBTS...clones are $10 a pop
-
StarWarsShop.com (http://shop.starwars.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=405563;category_id=;pcid1=;pcid2=) has the case as well.

Ruiner, I doubt the coins will be metal. They were plastic in 85, and I'm sure they will be plastic in 2007.

toywiz.com has the case up for 79$

Taken from entertainmentearth.com:
Description:

Each new figure is loaded with accessories and includes a bonus metal collector's coin. Wave 1 includes 12 individually packaged action figures, including: 2x Galactic Marine, 2x R2-D2, 1x Mustafarian Lava Miner, 2x Obi-Wan Kenobi, 2x Utapau Airborne Trooper, 1x McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper, 1x Mace Windu, and 1x Super Battle Droid. (Subject to change.)

I meant the one that came with th 8 of them sry for the confusion
-
Ruiner, good call. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm really surprised. Kind of bummed out too. Metal costs a lot more than plastic, and to me, these things are just a bit of nonsense.
-
toywiz.com has the case up for 79$
Toywiz is such a joke. Look at the prices for the individual figures. $19.99 for a Galactic Marine. Can you say scalping?
-

IK they are i usualy never order anything from them just wanted to show the price diffrence :-\
-
I know lots of people are happy about the case breakdown...but I for one am not. :(
My 3 most favorite figures from this wave (Mace, Lava Miner, SBD) are each 1 per case. And then they decide to put Obi and R2 as 2 per case.
Messed. Up.
-
Yeah, I really hope people don't want the Lava Miner and SBD in my area so I can get all of them.
-
You mean $99 (http://toywiz.com/sws07case1.html)
These guys are crooks. Their shop is located near me, and even though they have an account directly with Hasbro they still have buyers scouring the local stores for potential stock. THEY STINK AND THEY'RE SCALPERS.
-
Darth Nirvana said..."Toywiz is such a joke. Look at the prices for the individual figures. $19.99 for a Galactic Marine. Can you say scalping?"
This isn't scalping. A retailer can charge what they want for a figure. A scalper has to CREATE THE SHORTAGE that they benefit from. If a guy hangs out a TRU and grabs up all the clones, then turns around and sells them for profit, and you buy them beacuse you can't find them anywhere (because he got them all!), that's scalping.

I think what Nicklab is suggesting is that Toywiz actually sends employees out to the retail stores like Target, TRU etc. and buys up the hot figures as well.
I used to live in the area where Toywiz has their store. They were formerly known as Wizard of Cards, used to pop in there when I got my haircut when I was a weee lad. After 1995, their walls were frequently littered with the "hot" POTF2 figures like Yoda, stormtrooper, monkey leia etc, usually for between $12-18.
I don't know if they actually bought stuff at TRU and resold it at scalper prices, but I did so those guys in the Star Wars aisle at TRU all of the time, despite their account with Hasbro. So, as logic would have it, scalping was probably their motivation. I cannot claim that I ever saw them at the cash register though.

Well, if that is the case, then they are scalpers. I just see the word used too often to label anyone who sells figures over a certain price.
-
I've seen the general manager of the store and a number of their employees in both Target and Toys R Us stores filling shopping carts with not only Star Wars merchandise but other HTF collectibles as well. And when you go into their brick & mortar store and you find current store exclusives marked up 300%, the situation is just galling. How you cannot define that as scalping is a tough sell.
-
Why Kenobi 2? The SBD should be x 2! :(
-
Why Kenobi 2? The SBD should be x 2! :(
My thoughts exactly.
-
1 SBD per case but 2 Kenobis & Artoos WTF?
Obi and R2 as 2 per case. Messed. Up.
Why Kenobi 2? The SBD should be x 2! :(
Why are you guys so surprised that Obi-Wan and R2 are 2x per case? Have you not been paying attention to the last 10+ years of Hasbro case packs? ???
Why Kenobi and not SBD? Because that's how it works with Hasbro, main characters will almost always get packed at a higher ratio than the secondary characters. There is a much higher likelihood that Grandmas and Moms in the toy aisle to buy a gift for little Johnny will recognize Kenobi or R2-D2, but little chance they would recognize the Lava Miner.
In a perfect world for collectors, sure it'd be nice if they were only 1x per case to make room for more Army builders, but the case has to be a reflection of Collectors (2x Galactic Marine and 2x Airborne Trooper) and Kids (2x Kenobi and 2x R2).
-
Because SBD blow bigtime. Just kidding. Well sort of. I think the SBD's suck but you army builders need them so hopefully the 2X works well. To be honest they have been selling the Kenobi pretty well all 3 times they have released it. I don't see that many ever sitting on the pegs.
-
Still, most kids like jedi w/ sabers. Obi dosen't have saber this time.
-
Kenobi has joined R2, Yoda, Chewie, Vader and Luke as a Star Wars figure that will always sell.
-
According to the Target folks I know, the 2007 basic figures have a whole separate DPCI number than Coin Album Vader does. That means they are on completely different order schedules and a surplus of one shouldn't keep the other from being ordered...
Good to know. :D
Regarding a potential price increase: Aaaargghhhhhhhh!
-
Still, most kids like jedi w/ sabers. Obi dosen't have saber this time.
True.
-
Regarding a potential price increase: Aaaargghhhhhhhh!
The price will be $6.99, at least at Target.
087-06-1990 basic figures $6.99
087-06-1991 expand universe 2 pk $9.99

Yoda, R2, Chewie & Vaders are pegwarming this year though. :p You also forgot clone/Emp troopers too.

Hasbro (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/default.cfm?page=news&newsid=14F43678-D56F-E112-4955F010BF412FB2) has updated with the official announcement on this wave...
- one interesting new note, confirmation that R2-D2 and the Super Battle Droid do, in fact, combine together...
I still like this R2-D2, even if he is all yellow and scene specific. I've got dozens of other "netural" R2's, so I have no problem with this one (since this is how I'd probably display it anyway)... of course, I'd still like a nice neutral "sneak preview sculpt" R2. ;)
-
That's some pretty piss poor composite work by Big H. Artoo look a bit small compared to the SBD
-

I don't mind this Artoo, as long as it's not the R4-G9 version they mentioned earlier. But I have a feeling that it is, and that's what irks me about it. Here's the Artoo paint job on the great new astromech sculpt like everybody's been wanting, but he's gonna come with this goofy-ass, urine-colored paint job, which means he's really only displayable in this one scene. So the people who just want a clean Artoo on the new sculpt which can be displayed for any of the movies will just have to keep waiting.
It's just another example of Hasbro intentionally crippling or holding out on ultimate versions of core characters in order to string collectors along and to keep them always buying the "next-best" versions of their favorites. Sure, they'll do an ultimate version of a core character every once in a while, but more often than not, they don't. . .
-
It's very telling that Hasbro has picks of the firts MqQaurrie Trooper up, but not the 2007 repaint...
But then again, why should they bother when sites likes this do it for free?
-
And they didn't put up a pic of Obi-Wan.
-
And they didn't put up a pic of Obi-Wan.
Sure looks to me like they put up an Obi-Wan pic... ???
-
Weird, I don't see it on the page.
-
Now why couldn't they have packed that Electrostaff in with the Grievous Bodyguard last year? Im gonna end up buying a few of those Obi Wans just for that. :-\
-
Sure looks to me like they put up an Obi-Wan pic... ???
I don't see the Kenobi pic or the Artoo/SBD pic on their page, using Firefox. Using IE, I see red-X boxes that I can click on, which will then pop up with the pic.
-
The sculpt of this new Obi-Wan staff is totally different than the Bodyguard Electro staffs. I wonder what this new one is based from?
-
Looks like a great start to hopefull a good collecting year, very happy even with the re-freshes. The McQuarrie trooper looks so much better. My very minor 2 gripes are: the Mace likeness, hopefully the Orangutans arm action version head fits the body. The Obi Wan would be awesome with some battleworn deco.
-
Did anyone catch that the Hasbro page says these figures are coming out in January? I thought we weren't seeing the 30th ann. figures come out until April-May while they pepper us with the TSC repaint waves.
-
Now why couldn't they have packed that Electrostaff in with the Grievous Bodyguard last year? Im gonna end up buying a few of those Obi Wans just for that. :-\
That's exactly why. :-\
-
Hasbro resculpted the original face on the Mace Windu into a much more accurate version since the original photos. First, here is the original that first popped up on RS and GH:
Now, here is the photo from Hasbro today:
The new version that Hasbro posted today is much more of a dead-on likeness to Samuel L. that the original photos.
edit - just swapping the photo to fix the page width...
-
Time will tell 'cuz Hasbro's never shown us superior product and then 'bait and switched' us with the final product ;)
-
Time will tell 'cuz Hasbro's never shown us superior product and then 'bait and switched' us with the final product ;)
I had originally denounced the Mace figure a couple weeks ago when that first version was shown with the face sculpt that looks nothing like Samuel L. But with the version Hasbro posted on their site today, the likeness to Samuel L. is dead on. That is one major, profound difference.
I didn't even want the last version. Now I want minimum 4.
-
Well, let's just hope that the production version is the Hasbro photo then.
Unfortunately, we really have no way of knowing which picture is "newer" or the version we'll get. Like Jayson said, plenty of times we've seen a good-looking sculpt/paint job on the hand-painted/promo figures only to have some kind of manufacturing glich or last minute swap screw it up... :-\
-
If the carded sample (http://www.galactichunter.com/2007/2007_mace_card.jpg) is to be trusted, I think today's photo is the early sculpt, and that we'll actually get the first one we saw.
But I hope we get the one we saw today.
-
The "new" one is fantastic. The old one looks like comedian Paul Mooney (Chapelle's Show).
-
Well, all I know is if it's not the one we saw yesterday, I'm not buying a one of 'em. Cuz that first one we saw ain't Mace Windu.
If they went from the 2nd pic to the 1st pic, that'd be one of their all time colossal **** ups. We've been waiting for a good Mace figure since EI.
-
Let's hope they use the new sculpt.
-
If they went from the 2nd pic to the 1st pic, that'd be one of their all time colossal **** ups.
Something else that struck me last night after I shut off the PC...
It's very telling that Hasbro has pics of the first McQuarrie Trooper up, but not the 2007 repaint...
Like Mike said, the pic in the Hasbro update is most obviously not correct - it's just a pic of the first release figure and definitely NOT what we are getting in the first wave (a white/gray version with new deco shield) which is what was in the early leaked pics from GH/RS/JD.
If it can happen for the McQuarrie, it can happen for the Mace too. Add in what Matt said about the carded figure and I'm definitely expecting the first Mace that was shown and not the one in the Hasbro update... :-\
-
Why would anyone even want the first version? The only thing it has to do with Mace, is that it's black. And the likeness stops there.
-

But all black people look alike, so it's kind of a wash, isn't it?
(I would say "just kidding," so that I don't upset any black people, but then again, black people aren't dorky enough to collect Star Wars toys, so there aren't any black people here anyway, right?)

Right.
Anyway, here are some more details about Wave 1 (and the coins) from Galactic Hunter's Q & A:
Is the upcoming Galactic Marine's helmet removable? Are the flames on the 2007 Super Battle Droid removable, and are his hips ball-joints? (GH, 10/6/06) (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=5881&zoneid=2)
The Galactic Marine's helmet is in fact removable. The flames on the Super Battle Droid are removable, as they are snap-on parts. The Super Battle Droid is new and super-articulated with a ball joint head and waist, insert molded shoulders, elbows, and knees…but the hips are not ball joint.
What type of material are the 2007 Collector Coins made from? (Metal or plastic?) Will the Collector Coin Album be available at big box stores? (GH, 10/6/06) (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=5881&zoneid=2)
They are aluminum - the exact same material the previous coins were made from. We wanted to stay true to the roots of the coin program and make them from the same material and to be the same size. There are some new details for the 30th Anniversary, though — some coin details that are pretty cool and unique. The figure/album will be available everywhere from 1/1 to approximately 3/24.
-
15 SBDs now. ;D
-
100 SBDs for me, if I can find them.
-
NFC put this first wave up for pre-sale. Still $71.99 for a case.
-
I actually don't think the SBD's look too exciting...maybe just 3 for me...
-

Thanks for the heads up... I hope Rick comes through because I'd love to save $25+ buying my two cases from him and not EE. ;)

Nice! Actually those figures should come packed together that way.
-
That's a cool, pic, Rune! Thanks for sharing!
-
Yah, that looks much better than that pic with R2 balancing on the standing SBD's shoulders.
-
I may sound like a total dork, but are the SBD's flames removable? ???
-
I may sound like a total dork, but are the SBD's flames removable? ???
The answer (taken from Hasbro's weekly Q&A) is only a few posts above...
The flames on the Super Battle Droid are removable, as they are snap-on parts.
-
(http://www.hasbro.com/common/images/news/starwars/Combined-R2-D2_Droid.jpg)
Pretty cool pic really. I would not otherwise bother with these two figures other than to make that little scene. Now I have an excuse to get the coins as well :)
-
Nope, easy pass on the SBD and the R2. Still want the Mace, Marine, Airborne and will probably get an Obi since he is my favorite. December means I return to the hunt.
-
Your'e gonna have to hunt hard because they don't hit hard in Dec. more like Jan. is when figs starting warming.
-
Your'e gonna have to hunt hard because they don't hit hard in Dec. more like Jan. is when figs starting warming.
Disagree . . . every year (non-movie) they say January and every year near the middle to end of December guess what shows up at retail . . . . at least in my area, the new wave. And yes, they do not hit hard, one or two cases per store, then in Jan. and Feb they begin to trickle out more. That is the key, one must know the area one lives in and when stuff hits.

same with me
-
Same here... though I might have to eat crow since Endor and Naboo waves are sporadically found. :-\ I've found what I want, but there are other TCJD members that have yet to find them.
-
ive decided that I, Pit Droid, MOC completist, will be more budget next year.
WHAT I'M GETTING:
Galactic Marine x7
Airborne Trooper x2
SA Mace Windu
Lava Miner x2 (to follow around my 1 Mustafar Sentry)
McQuarrie Stormy (didnt get it first time around)
WHAT I'M NOT GETTING:
30AC #1 Vader (aka crappy ROTS repack)
R2 (im waiting for a clean one)
SBD (AOTC ones are good enough at least for me)
Obi-Wan (have 6 million already)
UNDECIDED:
Comic 2-Packs (paint aps are weird, but carded they look cool {will definitely get vos and mara jade ones- has it been confirmed that vos will come with devaronian dude?})
-
I'll probably only buy the Galactic Marine, Mace Windu, and the SBDs. All in multiples.
-
Well, let's just hope that the production version is the Hasbro photo then.

i bet hasbro will release both the good and bad heads as another STUPID running change exclusively to screw with us.
-
Bitching about Hasbro is a learned skill. Not everyone can pull it off, and it should be left to professionals only.
Kids these days and their bandwagons... (http://cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/figuren/a045.gif)
-
Wow, is Hasbro really serious on teh ROTS Vader? I thought they were joking. :-X
-
Hasbro has moved on from the days of Cantina Han. Now they have entered the decade of ROTS Vader.
-
A bit delayed (thanks to a corrupted mail file), but fixed now. From the Weekly Q&A (http://www.jedidefender.com/newspro/fullnews.cgi?newsid1163213532,68703,) last week:

Now all we need is that guy. ;)
-
All they need to do is take the Captain Typho head without the eye patch and put it on the red jumpsuit body. That would be easy for Hasbro. But knowing them if they did it they would just repaint the Naboo Soldier body red.

NOOOO!!!! That would be horrible. But we know Hasbro is prone to shortcuts. ::)

New case assortment, now this is more like it! ;D
From, http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS87500A1
Star Wars 30th Anniversary Figures Wave 1 Revision 1. Celebrate three decades of George Lucas' saga with this assortment of action figures based on Revenge of the Sith! Each new figure is loaded with accessories and includes a bonus metal collector's coin. Wave 1 Revision 1 includes 12 individually packaged action figures, including: 2x Galactic Marine, 1x R2-D2, 2x Mustafarian Lava Miner, 1x Obi-Wan Kenobi, 2x Utapau Airborne Trooper, 1x McQuarrie Concept Stormtrooper, 1x Mace Windu, and 2x Super Battle Droid. (Subject to change.)
-
Wow, potentially 4 army builders in that case. I may buy these amounts:
Marine - 8
Super Battle droid - 9
Stormtrooper - 7
Airborne - 2 or 9 depending on my mood when they hit. I might do what I'm doing with the Mace BP and use the Airbornes as Team leaders.

Bah, take the extra SPD and replace it with 2X McQuarrie Trooper and the case assortment will be better.

Yeah, it's the same sculpt as the Windu Battle Pack clone, but he looks so much nicer in "Utapau Orange". :)

MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm pretty orange sherbet...
:)
Yeah this is a must have. I dig the purple one but this is definitely the one to army build I think. I'm sort of surprised how Hasbro did the EU deco first on this figure. Makes me wonder if it wasn't planned for '06 but got pushed into '07 for whatever reason. I would be sort of surprised if they had done it the other way around from the get-go... I mean, why not just paint a #33 commander purple then? It sort of takes some of the surprise of this figure away by having it in another non-film color beforehand.
Anyway, great figure... He's great in any color... well almost any.
-
he is looking better in purple i think :O
hm, i think this wave will be expensive for me, i want airborne trooper, marine, battle droid and mace windu and (maybe) the lava miner ;)
-
I think the reason Hasbro announced these will be delayed is that I believe that they are letting retailers sell off the rest of the saga line wave 8,9. Then they will release the new 30th with increased prices. It seems to be maybe after stores have finished inventory as well? We'll see. Have already seen Titanium SW prices rise...it could be an across the board price increase for sw products in the 30th line--I really want to be wrong though, damn.
DS
-
and this will push like three of the last waves into a place where they will only be available for a couple weeks, like post otc, and retailers will be clearing out for '08's stuf.

Ah, so the Miner does have articulation on the knees. I did not know that. It looks as though the SBD does as well...hmmmm.
-
Already caught those ones Rune, good eye... Yeah the SBD looks slick with articulation... I think the shoulders are a ball joint, and perhaps the hips are as well which is cool for sturdiness... Makes me wonder what they could do with a regular Battledroid ya know?
The Lava Miner is pretty cool... I really at first was irked by the hip pose but I was thinking that perhaps that's just how those beings are able to stand too... They don't stand upright in the film if I recall, and all were hunched like that... I dunno. Cool enough figure... I just wish we'd had a platform for him too.
-
i dont like the holes in the SBD, very distracting, but otherwise, eh, still pretty cool.
-

True, but they are needed to attach the flame accessories. Clip-ons like the Veers armor would have been better though.
-
veers... :D veers was the BEST! ;D 8) so functional, so neat!
-
On RS it says this wave is starting to hit in the UK and Canada. Is this true? cause i still haven't seen anything star wars figures from the 30th anniversary besides the Catina tin. :-\
-
Yep, someone's posted pics at Rebelscum's forums of the SBD, R2, and the Galactic Marine.
-
:o :o is anyone here aware of what parts of Canada this set is starting to hit ??
(sorry for all the questions)

Anyone care to speculate on when they think these will get here? Are we due for a full month of final 22 reshipments-or were they a one and done(shipped once to the store and that's that)? Anybody think they'll hit before March?
DS
-
On RS it says this wave is starting to hit in the UK and Canada. Is this true?
Definetly true for the UK.
I picked up Obi Wan, R2 and SBD (all that was left) from the Wal Mart owned ASDA supermarket in the UK this morning.
The cardboard display was about big enough for 16ish figures - so not many being put out.
-
Andy, you want to snap some detailed photos for us? I'm sure we'd all dig seeing the figures up close and personal!
I've heard nothing of these hitting in Canada yet, and since they're just now showing in Hong Kong it seems, I could see a month before we see them on shelves here in the states. I sort of hope that's the case because right now I'm completely missing Wave 9 and wouldn't mind second and third cracks at some of the clones of Wave 8.
-

Wave 9 hasn't shown up in the UK yet, so I'm also hoping that wave 9 make an appearance at retail sometime and that it hasn't been bypassed by the TAC.
I'm uploading some pictures now so I'll post some in a couple of minutes.

If you save the cardback and zoom in you can see the how the card will differ from the US version as there is a large sticker lower centre with all sorts of extra languages mostly distributor info and symbols as required by the European Union / UK and to the right of the red triangle are 4 printed language warnings top - bottom English, French, German and Italian. The barcode is on the base of the bubble - which on this one is a sticker over the printed barcode on the insert.

Close up of R2 on packaged on top of his flames. Also has a sticker on the bubble explaining that it combines with the SBD.
The rest of the photos didn't work too well and it is dark now here in the UK for taking half decent photos.
-
Thanks Andy, I appreciate that... Pretty slick looking figures too. I like the SBD a lot, and the fact it interacts with the R2 figure is enough reason to buy yet another R2. Obi even looks quite nice. I wished that was the only Obi-Wan sculpt (the body that is) we saw released over and over... It's simply the ideal.
Andy, did you nab these at regular retail over your way? Whoops, nevermind I see you got them at a retailer owned by WM over your way. Pretty cool... You just never know who's gonna get what first.
Wave 9's still very new over here too so hopefully you guys get those as well.
-
The new Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is missing one thing.
-
Thanks Andy!
You know, I still haven't gotten used to the new packaging design. Usually, stuff grows on me, but this hasn't
-
I'm not sure how much it counts for but the Mace on the package appears to be this head sculpt:
Instead of this one:
And that's a huge difference. I'll take 5 instead of zip. I'm still not 100% convinced that we're not getting bent over with the ****** head sculpt, but this is definitely a nice indicator that we're getting the sweet sculpt.
-
The important thing here is that you're getting a coin.
Pbbhhtt, head sculpts.
Where are your priorities?

rumor has it on Snowtroopers that this line is starting to hit Canada. not sure what areas but i gotta start keeping my eyes open now ;D

Ontario.

well i know ontario. i live in it. But im still wondering what parts so i can actually go searching if need be.
-
If you're registered on Snowtroopers, go read in the Ontario forum, it's pretty obvious pretty quickly since they list the city and store. I'm not listing it here out of respect for the fact that their provincial forums are hidden from unregistered members, just as the store reports here are as well.

The New Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure looks good. However he is missing one important kind of thing. (Guess what it is if you want)

What's he missing?
-
He's missing one thing.
Hint: Something every Jedi should have.
-
a lightsaber?
he didnt have one during the fight though :S
-
a lightsaber?
he didnt have one during the fight though :S
Yes. He is missing his lightsaber (The Revenge of the Sith lightsaber he had of course). After all, Obi-Wan did fight General Grievous when he had his lightsaber. But still, all Jedi Knights need their lightsabers.
-
What?!
No lightsaber = no sale.
Thanks for the heads-up, "77Skywalker."
Suck it, Hasblow.
-
i still think I have seen this figure before. something just keeps telling me i have one just like it. ???

sorry hasblo im not buying thissun.
-
sorry hasblo im not buying thissun.
Yeah... but... he comes with an electrostaff... and Grievous' blaster.... and a mouthpiece so he can smoke his Jedi weed, I mean, swim under water. ;)
-
hmm me too...
could it be the pilot obi thats been repacked a dozen times in the last year? hmm...?
thats the one. its sitting on my shelf actually, with my GG staff and blaster. looks like i have no use in buying ANOTHER obiwan. $10 for 1 new accessory. pfft screw that.
-
The New Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure looks good. However he is missing one important kind of thing. (Guess what it is if you want)

The suspense was killing me. Thanks for breaking your silence. ::)

My friend told me they have hit the wm near his house. looks like im on the hunt.

My friend told me they have hit the wm near his house. looks like im on the hunt.
Where does he live?
-
I believe that the North American sightings of the 30AC line have been in Canada so far.
-
I believe that the North American sightings of the 30AC line have been in Canada so far.
I think that's right, Nick. Jango there is in Ontario/Eastern Canada, so that's what he's referring too.
Canada didn't receive much, if anything, of the last 22 Saga figures. Some US carded stuff has trickled in, but we're set to miss virtually all of it and certainly the Walmart exclusive wave. I think for that reason Hasbro Canada has already started shipping out the TAC stuff up here, so there's at least something on the pegs.
They've only been sighted at Walmart so far, but Walmart up here is a miserable place, so we're never sure if they'll actually carry something or not. No sign of the Vader yet either.
-
I hope no one finds them in the US for a while, I still haven't found the last 3 waves of TSC.
-
Where does he live?
Like stated above. Ontario Canada. only Wm are being hit though...which was also stated above....
-
One thing about the arrival of those 30AC figures in eastern Canada makes me wonder, where do their figures come from? I know that Hasbro does some manufacturing in Europe. And it's been fairly well established that Europe is getting the first 30AC wave, too. So I have to wonder if some of Eastern Canada is supplied by the European factories.
-
Cool! Only a month until the US gets theirs.
-
EDIT
Hasbro ****** up Mace again. This is what Samuel L. should have looked like:
Courtesy of Rebelscum, I guess this is what we're getting:

:D
Looks like Sam J!
Kevin
-
Finally! I absolutely hate other sculpts although, stangely, the POTF 2 one is decent.
I may get 2 R2s due to it being the G9 sculpt. :-\
-
Mmmm. Still looking a little short to me though. Not as bad as the EIII basic that we've gotten several times including the Mace's Squad BP, but still short I think.
-
I know that Hasbro does some manufacturing in Europe.
Really? Do you have a cardback that says "Made in Europe?"
I'd like to see that.
-
Check the card inserts. You'll find some information on the bottom of them regarding manufacturing in the UK.
-
..Well im getting 3 figures from this wave for my birthday...Which i dont know But i DO know im getting 3 different ones :s
im just happy because they are finally around My area Ontario (where? well you dont NEED to know). im sure they will hit the states soon. after all we havent gotten a new wave of figures in over a month you guys just got a new wave (wave 9? i believe) But either way our cardbacks suck >:(
-
Open them.
-
Hmmm. I have two days off. Road trip to Canada? ::)
-
But either way our cardbacks suck >:(
I happen to like the Canadian cardbacks on these. But I open so it really doesn't matter. ;)
-
i like the euro/canada cardbacks this year A LOT, maybe even more than ours.
OK, so now thats its arriving, heres what i plan on getting:
Vader w/Coin x0
G. Marine x4
Lava Miner x2 (to flank my lonely sentry from ROTS)
R2 x0 (paint aps just too ugly)
SBD x3
Obi x0 (seen that body too much already)
Mace x2
Airborne Trooper x1 (ehh...)
Concept trooper x1 (to keep carded-i dont see myself opening any concept figs but hey carded, its very cool)
-
Check the card inserts. You'll find some information on the bottom of them regarding manufacturing in the UK.
Could it be that it's the Cardbacks get manufactured in Europe?
-
Check the card inserts. You'll find some information on the bottom of them regarding manufacturing in the UK.
I think that's in regards to distribution. As far as I know, all figures are made in China...for obvious reasons.
-
For me i Plan on getting:
Vader x1(never got that version of vader before.
Marine x5
Lava Miner x0 (still thinking on this one)
R2 x1 (i noticed i only have 1 R2 soooo i need one more)
SBD x3
Obi x0
Mace x1
Airborne Trooper x3
Concept trooper x2 (one to open, and one to keep carded)

I officially Hate WM.
Me " hey i came by this morning and asked if you had any Star wars figures in stock and was told to come by at around 9:30 at night because they would be stocking then. I was wondering if you can help me find a box. ( there was huge piles of boxes..of toys of course... in the toy aisles)
Customer service person/ : oh i cant help you with that ask the toy employee
Me: i was actually told to come to customer service because the box i was looking for was supposed to be still in the back and they didn't have a key to open the doors. I was told you can help. Can you maybe check the computers to see if you have the items in the back?
Customer service: oh i cant help you with that. thats day staffs job we cant use the computers.
Me: But you were just using it for the person in front of me :S
Customer service: oh wait we don't have any (didn't even check the computers) Have a nice day.
and she just left me standing there.
Then maybe an hour before that at another WM i had asked a manager if they had any in stock and i was told they had never ordered any of the new star wars figures and were not ordering them till next month WHEN there was still R2 and Obi on the shelf. I wonder how they could have gotten there then :|
Then i asked another employee of the same store and they said they had only ordered 1 box of the new figures WHEN there was 4 obis and 3 R2's on the shelf. correct me if I'm wrong but last time i checked there wasn't 4 obis a box.
So i now HATE WM. Their idiotic ways are beyond belief.
-
How is this any kind of a surprise to you? The WalMart employees are the dregs of retail, and as a chain they're just not customer service oriented. The only thing that I've seen payoff when trying to patronize WalMart? Persistence. Just keep going back until you find the item you're looking for. I have seen exceptions, when you would actually come across a fairly nice and helpful employee who isn't a complete moron, but those instances can be few and far between. ::)
-
I've had wave 1 on pre-order for a couple of months now and it finally arrived yesterday.
My first impressions are -
I like the style of the cards more in reality than I did when just looking at pictures on the internet. As a carded collector I found them to have a more sturdy feel to them than the saga line (don't know why though)
Apart from the BD figuer I'm very happy with the sculpts.
The coin album is very neat. It has some lovely artwork on it, a nice bit of infor about the history of the films and the figuer lines.
All in all, one very happy punter here.
-
I had a similar view based on pictures Nick, the cards looked like trouble. But I agree, they have a solid feel to them (still too many corners) but they seem to ship better than the ROTS or recent Saga line, so carded folks should be much happier and mint cards will actually be mint again instead of slightly dinged. Bubbles feel pretty solid too.
But they open up just the same as the other figures when you rip the bubble off the card :P
No sign of Vader and the album up here yet, but it's only a matter of time.
-
Congrats on the find Brent. I'm looking forward to the new line. I'm pretty much caught up now, and could use a spending break (and time to look for a couple more Elite Corps troopers) - but I'm kind of ready for the 30 AC to get off and running (at least the basic figures, since we've seen other products under the banner). I didn't preorder this wave, so I'm hoping it won't be too tough to find.
-
If recent years are any indication, anything released in the first waves will find their way back in to later waves. I was going to preorder one when I saw the galactic marine, but figured they have all year (at least) to be shipping these things.
-
I received the Windu figure in the mail on Saturday... it was loose, which is fine with me. I really think this is one of the better figures that I've ever seen Hasbro make.
Here's a loose pic of it without the robe in case anyone hasn't seen much of one yet -
(http://www.yakface.com/toyguide/dioramas/chewie/021207mace2.jpg)
I really think people are going to like this figure a lot, it's very articulated, well made and the paint job is good too. All around an awesome figure, and about time they did Mace justice in my opinion.
:P
-
CHEWIE - don't you feel like the likeness is still off? For example, I had hoped we were getting this one:
Now that's Samuel L. I don't know what the **** went on from the time this prototype was made to the one you're showing here, but Hasbro ****** it all up again. As usual when it comes to most human's likenesses. In the case of Mace, they've never gotten it right. Most cases of Luke except the Jedi ROTJ figures. Han they get right a lot. Leia almost never.
Also, he's still too short right? Maybe you can snap a pic of "Mace" as I'll call him next to a VOTC stormie of SA clone 41 or something for scale.
Sigh. Looks like I'll take those 5 Mace's I was gonna buy off my list.
-
I think he's really good Dressel... maybe the face could be a bit better, I don't know. I didn't even consider the height on him, maybe he is a little short?
I'll see if I can get another pic of him next to a clone or something for scale. I'm at work and have a busy night planned with the wife, but will try to squeeze in time to get another pic. If not tonight, then tomorrow for sure.
:P
-
I think he's really good Dressel... maybe the face could be a bit better, I don't know.
No question. Look at the photo I posted above. That's a slam dunk for Samuel L. The figure you have is, well, not Samuel L.
I didn't even consider the height on him, maybe he is a little short?
I'm pretty sure. I'll wait to see him next to a stormie or clone.
I have a busy night planned with the wife, but will try to squeeze in time to get another pic.
I can't think of a better way to spend your Valentine's Day evening than to have a photoshoot with your wife and new Mace figure. Sorry, "Mace" figure.
:)
-
Would anyone who has both the TAC Mace and the ROTS Mace care to take a picture of the two side-to-side, maybe even with the heads swapped? I'm considering swapping the heads but I'd like to know if the skintones are different on the two figures.
-
I just ordered a case from NFC (after it's been available for months now.) Although this wave shouldn't be too hard to find at retail, it still's the best price around per figure. $6.66 per figure shipped to your door.
Too bad i was too late for wave 2. :(
-
Keep checking.
Sometimes the site gets updated to reflect OOS items as in stock.
BTW, I'm still waiting for a response from Rick in regards to the Legends line...
-
Someone found some of these in the states in Missouri at Wal-Mart.

That sucks! >:( I was hoping for another week or two of "collecting" vacation. It's nice to see that they (WM) haven't raised their prices though.
-
Eh... Yeah I could use more Saga Clones... TAC stuff shipping is going to severely hamper shipments of TSC I am afraid. :(
-

You really think? Won't the fact that they have different assortment numbers prevent problems?
-
You really think? Won't the fact that they have different assortment numbers prevent problems?
In some ways yes...in other ways no.
While they should be able to still order the Saga figures under the separate number, I'd imagine that the real estate in the SW section will be the issue for most stores. For example, at my local Target store, there are 12 pegs of basic figures. Once the 30AC figures get here, I'd image they will get 8 of the pegs while the other figures will get 4. There are plenty of pegwarmers there to fill those pegs, so no re-orders are needed.
So, if Target/Wal-Mart et al are planning to expand the SW sections to include the 30AC stuff, there should be no issue with plenty of space for everything. BUT, if the 30AC is coming in to gobble up retail shelf space in the planograms, I can see how that would slow down the flow of older Saga Stuff...
-
What Jeff said...
The separate assortment numbers SHOULD work out, and if you ask Hasbro they do work out... But when put into practice they seem to not work quite as well as theorized. The buyers may favor one over the other for a variety of reasons, the chain may not simultaneously carry both lines, etc... I think if TSC's remnants were sort of forced on the retailers in some way, it would work out...
Around me though, the final TSC waves have gotten the shaft at many stores, and I think it's the routine "ramping up for another line" where they want stock to dwindle before they unleash a new line, a new look, and such.
-
I think Target has shown that there must be a company policy regarding this. They frequently clearance out toys before the other retailers, and I think one of the reasons is they don't want a bunch coming back. Once they are clearanced out, the other retailers will get the "returns" because people found it cheaper at target and took it back to Wally. The last store to stop accepting returns loses, period. It's no coincidence that Toys R Us has changed their policy to "receipt returns only." I remember going to Toys R Us's in past years, and as soon as Target clearanced something out, a pile of them would be at TRU.

Thanks :)

That would explain why the National Football Conference repeatedly rejected my order.
-
Dressel sorry it took me so long. Here's a pic of Windu next to a clone.
I don't know what in the heck happened to my ROTS Mace Windu figures. I had a few of them that I bought for customs, but thought I still had on that hadn't been tweaked. I'd throw a comparison pic of that or try a head swap from it, but can't find that old Windu. Might have gotten thrown out in the trash after stripping it for parts...
:P
-
Having just opened my Galactic Marine all I can say is it's a complete swine to stand-up. It just doesn't want to know.
Trust Hasbro to screw up one of their best figures to date.
-
Yeah, that is the one thing that sucks this year...no stands. I still like the coins that are coming but it is to bad about the stands.
-
Check out the TSC Stands thread in the TSC forums... You can take extras and remove the names on them, and make generic stands if you have extras lying about. I have an assload of ROTS stands I know from Utapau Clone army building alone. It's a thought.
Why's the Marine so hard to stand, Nick? Legs pinched together? I notice that on some figures... Usually clones. In particular, lately, is the AOTC Clone Sergeant. I got 3 last weekend and all 3 have legs that sort of bow inwards. I'm going to boil them so I can bow them outward slightly.
If it isn't legs that are too far apart, they're too narrow or bowed inward. :) No happy medium.
-
Why's the Marine so hard to stand, Nick? Legs pinched together?
Yep.
The bottoms of the boots aren't flat either. They have a slight upwards curve in them.
So far I've found one pose that he can stand in without a stand. Legs facing forward, body and head twisted to the left.
-
That doesn't sound good... sometimes it's just the figure. I got a Holo Cody recently with his right leg bent all too hell. I don't know how man #41 Clones that have left their hands in the tray when I pull them out because of the goofy way they package them.
-
I saw a dealer at the NY Comic Con who had some of this wave last night. He had R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Airborne Trooper, and the figures definitely look good in person. This was also my first opportunity to handle the cards. I've seen plenty of posts where people seem to be concerned about their sturdiness (with all those corners and such). Well, the cards felt pretty substantial when I was checking them out.
I passed on buying them though. The cheapest one was $11.99 and I don't need to spend that much on a figure I can get for half that price in a couple of weeks.
-

Oh good! I was pretty worried. Thanks nicklab.
Oh and that otheR Site has these on their photo archives, really good shots so evry1 can see em in detail.
-
Oh, I know the photos have been out there and I even saw them in person at Toy Fair, albeit abruptly. But the opportunity to hold the figure in your hand and really examine it in person is always the real test for me. Photos reveal a good deal, but that firsthand experience is something else.
-
NFC just posted that their allotment of wave one is on the way and should start shipping to customers next week. :)
-
Despite all the angles the cards are better than the ROTS cards which had those small "wings" that were prone to damage.
The hanger on the TAC card is the weakest point but then that isn't any different to most lines.
All 6 of the MOC I've picked up off the shelf so far had no damage - and as an opener I look for non mint but couldn't find any.
The bubbles are also sealed with the waffle weave - no tape.
-
There are reports of this wave being found at Kmart in Texas and Florida.
-
Lucky me, but I'm not sure if I'll take chances to find nothingon Tuesday when I get Borat. ???
-
Someone locally found a TAC Obi-Wan at Sears Grand. Hopefully it won't be long before these hit the Big 3 stores.
-
What do figures cost at Sears?
-
$6.99, same as most other stores (or close to it).
KM/Sears aren't all that beyond any other store these days... Just another viable retail option.
-
So far I'm doing really good on finding TAC figures thanks to Kmart. I've aspent a ton of time and gas money going in circles around the STL area since Saturday, just been excited about all the new army builders.
Here's what I've scored so far, and well worth it I think -
On Sunday, I bought the following at one area Kmart -
Galactic Marine x 2
Airborne Trooper x 2
Super Battle Droid x 1
McQuarrie Trooper x 1
Mustafar Miner x 1
R2D2 x 1
Then on Monday, at another Kmart I bought the following -
Mace Windu x 1
Super Battle Droid x 1
Then today, at yet another Kmart I bought the following -
Galactic Marine x 2
Airborne Trooper x 2
Super Battle Droid x 2
So, including a Mace Windu that I bought last month on ebay, here's my TAC figures so far (all loose, these are really cool figures!)
Galactic Marine x 4
Airborne Trooper x 4
Super Battle Droid x 4
Mace Windu x 2
McQuarrie Trooper x 1
Mustafar Miner x 1
R2D2 x 1
Obi Wan x 0
Now, I need to stop buying these and stop looking for them for a while. Money's already tight as it is, but these are so hard to pass on. Out of all the figures, I've only seen one McQuarrie Trooper and one Mustafar Miner. Each store that has had some of the new figures on the pegs has had several extra Obi Wan and R2D2 figures, but some stores still don't appear to have gotten them in at all. In my area there are 6 Kmarts that I know of, which makes for one hell of a round trip!
:P
-
Well, that's quite a nice score this early. The gas bill must have sucked, but a nice score nonetheless.
This is a real changeup from the way figures were released through most of the past few years. When people in California first find them in Wally or Target, they usually turn up here in NY anywhere from a couple days to 2 weeks later.
Having figures first reported found in the states at KMarts in St. Louis is different. If I had any Kmarts here, I'd probably be out looking for the figures right now. But I'm sure I won't score my first batch until late March at Wally or Target.
-
Well, that's quite a nice score this early. The gas bill must have sucked, but a nice score nonetheless.
Always makes me laugh seeing people from US moaning about gas prices. Prices in the Uk are around $7-8 a gallon at the moment and going up.
Anyway, back on topic, nice to see the figuers turning up statside, I wonder why the UK is ahead of the US this year. Wave 2 is due through my dooe anyday now.
-

Well, don't use me as your poster boy. I didn't mention the price of a gallon of gas. I was commenting on his numerous round trips to 6 area KMart stores.
It doesn't matter what the price of gas is per gallon. It's a lot of money.
(And for the record I'm not criticizing CHEWIE, I do the same thing.)
-
All my point was that I can see someone saying "you're hoarding the new figures" - well I am spending the time and money driving around looking for them. All part of the hunt. The harder you work the more successful you'll be in finding what you want.
I know you weren't dissing me Dressel. ;)
:P
-
Ok, I'm definately going to KMart or somewhere this weekend.
-
Ditto
-
Good luck guys! :)
:P
-
I did check Sears today, they don't have a toy department. Only at Christmas. No Kmarts. So, I wait.

Newforce Comics just posted an interesting tidbit regarding this wave:
"SW wave 1 shipping
March 7, 2007 | 9:45 AM | newforce1
We have received about 80% of our order on wave 1, and Hasbro has given us the green light to ship (this wave was originally scheduled to have a 3/24 shelf date). So, we will ship all preorders at least 1 case, and allocate multi case orders at this point."
-

Weird. I've heard/read that Hasbro has a 3/24 street date assigned to the SpiderMan 3 toys, but that's the first I've read/heard about it being applied to the Star Wars 30AC stuff...
-
Found the whole wave waiting to be stocked at the local K-Mart tonight. I got one of each figure and an extra Airborne Trooper for a co-worker, and left behind an Obi-Wan, and an R2-D2 (plus something else I'm forgetting). Anyway, it was quite a shock since this K-Mart is even more of a disaster area than most other K-Marts I've been in over the past few years (I'm even more shocked that it remains open).
Quick thoughts:
-The Super Battle Droid is the BEST Separatist Army Builder EVER. It's my favorite figure of the wave and I can't say anything bad about it. Great figure.
-Nobody else has really pointed out (I think) that Mace's waist skirt is not cut at the sides to allow him to sit and (here's the real surprise) his hips don't even seem to be articulated so he can sit down to begin with. I guess that rules out getting another one to put in his JSF after all. >:(
-Obi-Wan's rebreather is a separate piece that is very small, so keep an eye on it so you don't lose it.
-My particular R2-D2's third leg was stuck in the down position, and I had to push really hard to get it to retract when the head-turning method didn't work. Once it went in, though, the head-turning method worked fine. Again, this might just be me, but be prepared if it's a widespread problem with this figure.
-Did I mention how great the SBD is? :)
-
Got notification from Newforce that my wave 1 stuff is on the way. :)
-
Scored 2 obi's, 1 SBD, 1 R2 at Kmart. I haven't gone to said Kmart in I don't know how long, for a veeeerry long time all that they had stocked were a couple of ROTS Mon Mothma's-there was still 1 on the pegs ::).
Chewie you're the man, great score. But why not use kmart's layaway plan.
-
Good score Purge, that SBD is awesome, did you open it?
I didn't even realize that Kmart had layaway, but no worries. I'm caught up for now on this wave, any Galactic Marines I find now are just gravy.
:P

Or feel free to pass any GM's down my way ;) No I haven't opened him yet. Can the "laser effect" that came with the previous SBD attach to the new SBD arm laser's?
-

Sadly, no it can't.

That's a bummer. I thought that was pretty cool addition.

Well, if that's the case, though it seems like several people are finding them regardless of a street-date, I'll have cash saved up for the oncoming onslaught on the wallet.
-
I picked up some of these figures over the weekend. Among them Obi-Wan, the Super Battle Droid, R2-D2 and Mace Windu. The Mace is a very cool figure. That is until you find out that the articulation on the legs is limited. The ball joints on the knees are great, as are the joints on the ankles. But no hip articulation? Drat!

yeah i really hate what they did to mace because of that. the one good mace figure we get is still ruined because of his skirt. But i supposed if you cut the sides of the skirt it may help is hip articulation
-
I picked up a McQuarrie, 2x Galactic Marine, 1x Airborne, Mace, and Lava Miner today along with 3x Vader/coin albums to pass on to Jeff and Jaybird today.
-
coin albums? i take it the states got that before canada now.
-
Mace HAS the articulation, he just needs a way to use it. ;)
I'm thinking of giving the "skirt" a slit up either side... Cloth would've been great on this figure though.
-
I got to open most of this wave up last night. The wave overall all is pretty good, but not perfect.
The Lava Miner is really good, except for the leg stance. It almost make the leg articulation pointless.
R2 is cleaver and neat, but I think the yellow highlights make the figure sickly.
Obi-wan is very decent. Great choice of body and cool accessories, but i think the combination is kind of weird.
Mace is almost perfect. I have to agree that the skirt is a pretty big detraction, but other than that, he rocks.
The SBD gets my award for best figure in the wave. Nice upgrade on material, paint and articulation.
Finally, I love the new paint job on the MaQuarrie Stormtrooper. Too bad the mold didn't get an upgrade.
-

Agreed, hands down the best figure in the wave. Might not be as popular as clone-mania, but this is a superior figure to the Marine... and Windu too (even though Mace rocks).
:P
-
The only thing that irritates me about the SBD is the two little holes in his torso. Too bad they couldn't have left the flames as "clip-ons" and avoided the holes in the torso. :-\
I love the clones and I love the SBD, but the one that has really grown on me since opening him is R2. Sure, he's very scene specific (after so many R2's I guess that's all they have left at this point is ultra scene specific), but when combined with the SBD, they do make for a very cool little display.

An new Wal-Mart literally 5 minutes from my house opened up today, so I decided to go and see what they had in the toy aisle.
I found multiples of EVERY TAC figure in Wave 1 (except the McTrooper, I got the last one). I also saw multiple Final 22 figures, new Galactic Heroes, and the Tantive Battle Pack. TAC figures are $6.63, the same price as TSC figures, which you can see in my shot of the receipt.
Older Wal-Marts didn't have anything, but this new one did. So keep your eyes peeled, looks like these are finally starting to hit the "Big 3"...
-
Cool find Diddly. I know that Qui George and some other guys scored these at a couple of Walmarts in the KC area a few weeks back (lucky finds to be sure) but I don't think I've heard of any other people finding them at Walmart yet.
:P
-
Hasbro Toy Shop .com has TAC Wave 1 in stock ... is this old news?
Well, let me rephrase, had TAC Wave 1 in stock.... the only thing hanging on is the Airborne Trooper. (http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByCategory.htm?CD=2&BR=495&ST=SO&ID=18405&PG=6)
-
Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a few things (the coin album is also available), but of course the Galactic Marine, Airborne Trooper, and McQuarrie Stormtrooper are all sold out right now. Oh well, a few less things to hunt for in the next couple weeks.
-
I picked up a bunch of these tonight. Nice wave, but Mace is really a let down, and crappy toy. His skirt is so solid that any leg movement above the knee is s joke. It aggrivates me because the Obi-Wan has a softer skirt with slits that allows lots of playability and poses, and this Obi-Wan was sculted at least 2 years ago. I'll never understand why Hasbro backtracks so often.
-
im still looking. :( >:( my sister says she saw an obi at target a week ago but didnt buy it (smart shopper). she described the package as being very cool but significantly smaller than the SAGA ones. is this true?
i cant wait to get my paws on these, they look great!
-

Oh? I've only heard of people finding figures at K-Mart and Sears Grand stores so far, so I figured mine was the first report of figures at Wal-Mart. Kansas City seems to have magical Wal-Marts, I remember them getting the Vintage figures like 3 months ahead of time last year.
she described the package as being very cool but significantly smaller than the SAGA ones. is this true?
Vertically they're exactly the same height as the TSC cards, but they're much less wide. I'd like to say they're the same width as older style cards (Saga 1, Clone Wars, OTC, etc.) but I don't have any of those around to compare them with.
-
They've also hit alot of Targets. So you know Diddly.
I wish I had a WM or Target real close to me.
-
gonna check my walmart today in hope of some Aireborne'sand marine's and SBD'S. But they'll probably end up having nothing from the 30AC :'(

Yeah, apparently one of the Walmarts somewhere in Blue Springs, MO (not too far from Kansas City) puts stuff out way earlier than other ones. I've heard it's a district headquarters store or something along those lines, where managment from the region gathers for meetings and they have displays up early for examples for their meetings, and as a result some of the collectors in that area score stuff pretty early sometimes.
:P

Any one hear anything about the variant coins?
-
Any one hear anything about the variant coins?
Do you mean the UGH gold coins? What specifically?
-
Bought a second Mace today to modify. It was actually very easy, just requiring two precise exacto knife incisions along the seams of Mace's robe. Made those cuts and voila! All of a sudden Mace has a lot more posability in the lower body.

So I take it that there *is* hip articulation under the skirt and that Mace *will* act as the best pilot figure for his JSF, after all?
-
Yes, there is in fact hip articulation. But the skirt is made from such a stiff plastic that it's probably not going to bend enough to fit this Mace in the Jedi Starfighter. I think the ideal Mace to use as a pilot might be the one from the Jedi VS Darth Sidious battle pack.

That whole not until 3/25 thing at Target is really pissing me off. I was so frigging close to getting wave 1 today! >:(
-

What's the difference between having it now over next week?
-
I really don't understand what Target's idea is with the street date. It's written nowhere on the box that they're to be held in back until that date. It's their own date I suppose... maybe when they redo the action figure section.
Still, I think it has a lot to do with meeting the right redshirt. Sometimes you'll find one that'll help you and others that won't or flat out lie. I figure they'd want to sell goods now, not later when these are being put on pegs slowly at other Targets, TRUs, and now WMs.
-

When looking for the first wave of each line over the past bunch of years including SAGA, OTC, EI, SAGA2, I have heard each time from a Walmart employee or a Target employee that "The line has been discontinued". Why? Because they didn't want to be bothered.

Pretty helpful employees that want to help their company succeed. ::) Blatant lying is not the way to go though. But still, I'm sure these employees see adult SW collectors and think scalper or something. I know from working at a TRU that some employees are unwilling to help those people or will purposely bend a card as they scan an item. That bugs me if some employee assumes you are going to turn around and scalp these when you took the time to pick the nicest card (if you're a carded collector).

This REALLY bugs me too as I am a mostly MOC collector. The first time I found Wave 5 of SAGA2 all together at a Walmart, the cashier flailed around the first three figures until I finally tried to say, 'stop.' Did she listen? Of course not. So I took half of the wave (the undamaged part) to layaway, where they were extremely helpful. The lady helping me there had a husband who collected MOC Star Wars as well. It was a whole different experience in the same store on the same day!
Im going shopping for Wave 1 today, and I aint stopping until Ive got some new figs! So if there are an SJ Target, TRU, or WM employees reading this then - PLEASE BE HELPFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
wow i don't think i have ever had any employee anywhere ever ruin my cards when i buy figures. then again it wouldnt matter considering i open almost every figure i buy.
-
The lying employee is always a great one to run across. I've seen them so many times that it isn't even funny. And it's gotten to the point where I will now go out of my way to mess with those people if they do lie to me. I'll tell them that I know more about the SW toy line than they ever will and I know that they're lying to me. I'll add that I'll also be happy to go get their manager so that I can tell them that their employee is lying to me to get out of doing some customer service work.

still no figures in my town, i think, i will have to wait very long :(

and does this ever make them "remember" what they have in stock?
-
and does this ever make them "remember" what they have in stock?
Doubtful. Only a salary that they have to earn on commission would achieve that. For the $8/hour they earn, they could give a rat's ass.

Target has nothing to do with it. The street date was Hasbro's mandate. NFC confirmed this when they said that Hasbro gave them the go ahead to ship earlier than the 25th.

Sure, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

was finally able to find me 1 marine and i picked up obi to finish off the wave. now im just aiming for 3 more marines and 2 more airbornes. possilby one more SBD aswell and i will be done with wave 1.
-
These are available at KB.com if anyone is interested. They are 7.99 and the Vader coin holder is 8.99. All are in stock.
-

A tad bit late on this one but was able to get a couple of Airborne Troopers but all of the Galactic Marines are long gone :'(.
-
After a good score at WM, I'm down to needing one MqTrooper to be done with wave 1 (after pending trades.)
-
Found wave 1 at a TRU and Walmart in NC, picked up the #1 Vader coin album and Galactic marine, looked very cool person. Same vader as from ROTS so it's not an opener.
only two figs missxing were McQ Boba Fett (no surprise there) and the Orange utapau airborn trooper.
Lava miner doesn't look all that cool to me, neither does R2 but my son likes R2 so I"ll end up getting it, the SBD looks to have much more articulation so as long as it's not flimsy like the ep2 ones, I'll get it to go with flaming R2. Obi wan looks ok but has a noticable hole in his mouth for the tiny rebreather, Mace looks ok.
To open the vader coin album, the cardboard has that 'pull here' zip top like of frozen food packages. Haven't opened it, might but might not since I'm not gonna collect all the coins anyway.
-
boba is wave 2. the stormy is wave 1.
-
I got these today at TRU and I absolutely love them. The cards are the maybe the best part - they're really very striking in person. I got the troopers, and went back with my $5 gift cerfiticate to get R2, who I was going to pass on, but in person rules.
-
I'm completely done with this wave now. Too bad I still need a few Saga figures to completely wrap the saga line up. :P
-
boba is wave 2. the stormy is wave 1.
my bonehead bad, somehow I got confused. :P
I still want the McQ Stormie and none were found. But I do want the McQ Boba when it comes out. Thanks for clearing that up for me so I don't waste time looking for something that aint out yet.

Has anyone noticed that the Super Battledroid's shoulders wound up being a pivot instead of the ball jointed shoulders we were supposed to get?
I cannot abduct and adduct the arms, I can only pivot them 360 degrees.
Still a great figure, but I just realized that the shoulders aren't ball jointed.
-
Your not trying hard enough...
-
No believe me I am yanking on the shoulders on multiple SBD's, and they changed it from a ball joint to a pivot joint. In other words, the arms cannot go out to the sides like this:
Instead, they have to hang close to the body like this:
I think there are 2 different versions. Maybe they discontinued the ball joint for costs?
-
Again...
Your not trying hard enough...
-
Holy ****, it does move.
Ha!!
Thanks.
:)
I almost had to snap the arms off to get them to move the first time.
-
NOW my son will REALLY want this stupid SBD ;)
I remember looking at the ones I saw and trying to tell if the shoulder joints were ball socket or not and they did 'look' like ball sockets. Now the big question, just how flimsy is it? do the legs start to bend the second you open it or after a short time?
-
They are surprising sturdy right now. The knee joints are nice and tight (just how I like 'em) and don't collapse under the weight of the torso even when the flame accessories are applied.
-
It's incredibly sturdy in almost all poses, it's got phenomenal articulation, and Hasbro really slam dunked this one. Outstanding figure, the Separatist troop builder we've been waiting for, for years now.
Buy 50.
Now they need to do the regular battle droids this way.
One thing I will say, and I really have to nitpick to do this, is that where the head meets the shoulders, there should be more "material" there to provide a smoother transition and "no neck" look to the droid. The body should also be slightly wider. You can see here:
But, the figure is tall and scaled correctly this time, it's nicely articulated, it's got a great likeness except for what I pointed out above, and it's sturdy. At the risk of being repetitive, I'll show the comparison compared to the previous best SBD version we had:
What are the previous SBD versions good for now? Cut them up into limb sized pieces and stick them in some sand in your Geonosis and Kashyyyk dioramas. That's about all they are good for now.
Pass on Mace Windu, and stock up on your SBD Separatist army.
-
I might have to buy me one (SBD) now... so darned cute and all. :-*
-
Buy 2, you need a couple for R2 to take out :D
-
Dressel, are they plentiful where you are?
Kevin
-
Dressel, are they plentiful where you are?
Kevin
I came across 8 cases at Walmart this morning. 2 other Targets and 1 other Walmart plus TRU had nothing.
So, mixed bag.
The Galactic Marine and Airborne Trooper were all there at the Wally this morning, and they will be shipping in waves and revisions for the next 3 months as well.
-
You know, it just occured to me, although every clone that was supposed to be on the pegs was there, there were no McQuarrie Stormies. Someone cherry picked them all shortly before I showed up I guess.
It didn't immediately occur to me because I snagged 1 earlier in the week, and I'm not army building it like I am the Marine, SBD, and Airborne Trooper, so I wasn't really looking for it. But in retrospect, someone bought all the McQuarrie's and left all the clones.
Fine with me.
-
Im going to my grandma's this weekend, she lives a three-hour drive away, and she has the
BEST
WALMART
EVER!!!!
a few minutes from her house. I think the reason its so good is because its in the middle of nowhere and theres no scalping. Yeah in 05 I found the ROTS Final 12 en masse there, it was SO cool, so thee should hopefully be some neat 30AC stuff there too, pretty exciting, considering that the only fig Ive gotten so far is the very cool McTrooper-that I kinda had to purchase from a local scalper...for 20 bucks...but itll be worth a lot one day, a one per case repaint of a super rare concept army builder, pretty damn neat!
-

I might as well be the one to straighten this out.
1. It is not super rare. First off, it's repacked and was previously released in the winter of '03 and early '04. It's shipping now. And it'll be repacked in Wave 1 revision 1, and again in Wave 2 revision 1. In short, he'll be on the pegs well into May and June. You really didn't even give this figure a chance to appear on the pegs. These figures have been out in retail in the United States for about 1 or 2 weeks for most of us. Some areas are just seeing these for the first time a few days ago.
2. This is not an investment of any kind. Years from now, the figure probably still can be had for as low as $7. Can you get $20 for it? Yeah, if you find someone impatient enough. And even in that instance, you'd just be getting your money back.
;)
-
I've noticed the cherry-picking of the Concept Trooper too. I was at a WM last night, who had just put out three cases of this wave, and while all the Marines and Airbornes were present from three cases, there were no Concept Troopers.
Then I was at an out-of-the-way WM tonight, and while I managed to find one of them there, the same situation was present- everything else from three cases, but only the Concept Troopers were gone. I managed to find mine sitting behind some lightsabers on the shelf.
I'm sure that with the reshipping treatment this figure is getting, it'll be out there in better numbers eventually, but right now, it's all the rage, and that's a fleeting thing in this hobby.
-
Dressel, I had the same problem with the arms. I've opened three so far and all of them were tough to move.
-
It's incredibly sturdy in almost all poses, it's got phenomenal articulation, and Hasbro really slam dunked this one. Outstanding figure, the Separatist troop builder we've been waiting for, for years now.
Once again, I am in complete and total agreement with you, DR. I finally fell prey to the smaller end of the army building bug last year, and the SBD is going to be one that I buy every time I see it. The simple fact that they can hold their gun arms in the "at ease" position against their chest (as seen in AOTC when Dooku gives his "halt" command) is one of those small yet infinitely cool touches that makes this an even nicer figure to me.
-
Buy 2, you need a couple for R2 to take out :D
Thanks, Jay... just the kind of thing I like to hear...
-
I just cannot bring myself to purchase yet another SBD. I have not had good experience with these and in the end super glue the ones my son doesn't play with to a stand so they stay up. I saw one yesterday and I passed on it.
The Marine is an ok figure, but one that is easy to pass on in my opinion. The fact that it is a clone from a scene will drive it. I do llike the Airborne Clone overall. Mace is okay, but not a huge change from the past. Obi Wan is a pilot body with a hole in the mouth. The McQuire is nice, I took one and left 2 others. Darth Vader was a pass as I will not be keeping or collecting the coins. I don't need another Vader unless they improve on the VTSC or the Evolutions Vader. I did like the Mustfar Miner as he is something different. Artoo is a pass, because I have enough Artoo. So like most waves this year, I bought piecemeal. I'll probably pass on wave 2 and just pick up 1 or 2 from each wave from here on out. I have to say that I am rather disappointed overall in this year's selection. There are some interesting ones, but also some that I just don't need. Then again, what is different than any other non-movie year.

Well said Dressel. And Greco, I'd say that was a waste of a fine $20, as come May or so, with all the reshipping, the McQuarrie Trooper should be keeping the pegs mighty toasty. Now get to rippin' the McTrooper off his card!

i dont know about the stormy keeping the pegs nice and "toasty" but he should be a bit easier to find by then. istill havent opened mine either BUT he will see the light of day eventually. kinda trying to find a second one though so i can keep one carded and one opened. not to sell though. just for display ;)

Big mistake! This is the greatest Separatist army builder we've ever gotten. I have yet to have a problem with mine not being able to stand, and the plastic is 1000 times more sturdy than the RoTS/Saga battle droids. As Dressel said earlier, destroy all your older versions of the SBD and buy as many of these new ones as you can.

Bingo! This is a good series if you have never collected StarWars figures, but if you have its like..been there, dont that with some of the figures. Mace,Vader Obi..I just do not need more! I did break down and buy R2 only because he goes with the SBD..if he did nt I would have passed. This seems to be the weakest wave they have announced, the rest seem be average or above average. But my god how many Obi have had over the last two years! TO MANY..time to put him to bed for a while.
-
That got me thinking. What is new this year that is official or what we have seen so far?
Lava Miner
Galactic Marine
Airborne Trooper (unless you count Mace's battle pack)
Biggs Academy
Rebel Honor Guard
CZ-3
Umpass-Stay
Neyo
Neyo's Trooper
Hermi Odle
LIN Droid
Onith
Helrot
Boba (Animated) - I guess it's a repaint? Not sure.
McFett
McVader
The following have been done before but I like the improvements.
Ceremony Luke
Mace - Sort of SA
Death Star Trooper
Han - Falcon
McTrooper
R2-D2 - Flames
SBD - I like the set it makes with R2
Vader - For the Kenobi Robe and the Vader figures itself is nice I think.
Jawa - I like the new Jawa
C-3PO - If it's a slimed version well I'll probably like it - we'll see.
Luke - I admit I just want it for the Moisture Vaporator.
Biggs Pilot - Definite improvement over the POTF version I think.
Vintage Figs - I like all of them myself - Definite improvements on all the ones we have seen before.
Vader Coin Album - I admit I like the coins and want them all - And I love that coin album. Hell I even like that Vader that nobody else seems to like at all.
Order 66 Packs - I like all the clones. Not sure I will buy them all but I like them. I don't care for their counterparts though.
Stinkers - I don't care for that Jedi Luke. I guess Kenobi is getting old. He will warm but only because everyone has this incarnation of him.
I know there is stuff for the rest of the year. But we have not seen them yet so I can't really comment to much on them. I like the assortment for the year really. Granted I would love to see stuff like Yarna, Tonnika Sisters, Bom Vimdin, Bane Malor, etc. but it ain't happening.

This is a good series if you have never collected StarWars figures, but if you have its like..been there, dont that with some of the figures. This seems to be the weakest wave they have announced.
If you like super articulated removable helmet army builder clones and the best Separatist army builder to date, this wave is for you.
If you don't like the Galactic Marine, Airborne Trooper, and Super Battle Droid, it's because you don't own them yet.

I was really hoping to find some TAC figures (or exclusives) this weekend, but it wasn't happening. Actually, if I hadn't traveled across town to check the "other" Target and Wal-Mart, I wouldn't have seen any TAC on the pegs at all. The "other" Target and WM each had a couple R2s and Obi-Wans, and nothing else. I see what people were saying about these being the pegwarmers of the wave. Still just sitting on the two figures I found at TRU a week and a half ago, Mace and Obi-Wan. I believe I have a shipment coming sometime soon from HTS with the rest of the wave, aside from the clones/McQuarrie of course. On the lookout for three figures basically now :), until other new stuff starts to hit.
-
the only fig Ive gotten so far is the very cool McTrooper-that I kinda had to purchase from a local scalper...for 20 bucks...but itll be worth a lot one day, a one per case repaint of a super rare concept army builder, pretty damn neat!
And even in that instance, you'd just be getting your money back.
;)
Yeah, Greco, you didn't wait long enough. Not that they're going to ever be warming the pegs around here (Bay Area) where we are, but you shoulda at least tried the DCPI # thingie like I posted in the Store Reports section. Heck, I probably would've tried to get you one if you'd asked. I just cringe when I hear that you paid $20 to a local scalper, though.
-
Our local Target seems to have started stocking TAC figures now, but all I saw were 3 Obis, 3 R2s, and a single Mace Windu. I really hope I'm able to find the clones, and the McQuarrie Trooper. I'm more worried about the McQuarrie figure, since they seem to be tougher to find and I wouldn't mind having an extra to keep carded.
-
I picked up Obi-Wan and Mace at a Target store on Wednesday. These are the first ever 2 action figures that I have bought, which are part of the 30th anniversary collection.
-
which are part of the 30th anniversary collection.
Oh, if you hadn't informed me that, I would have assumed they were POTF2 figures.
;)
-
That got me thinking. What is new this year that is official or what we have seen so far?
Boba (Animated) - I guess it's a repaint? Not sure.
Yes he is a repaint of the VOTC figure. The staff is new though. :P

I personaly think he looks like a re-paint, but apparently he's not. One of the more detail oriented guys on the site said that there were a lot of newly scupted parts like the forearms and the head.

yeah i checked the head and compared it to RS (the vintage boba profile on it) and the head is different the visor has triangular corners(if that makes any sense) and the body looks a bit different in sculpt too.

Eins has yet to arrive in South Carolina. Everywhere I go, I am greeted by thousands of Final 22 figures who, seemingly, have just arrived themselves. I need my fix!
-
Saw the remnants of this wave at Target, Obi-Wan and R2.

get used to it, they love to hang out on the pegs together. ;)
-
I've seen bits and pieces of this wave at almost every store I've been into this whole week - but not a single sighting of the Concept Stormie. >:(
-
Same here, I've seen this entire wave, except for the McTrooper, at least 5 times this week. Multiples of every figure.
-
It looks like the TAC supply is starting to pick up a little in our area as well, with the exception of Wal-Mart (which is still buried under lots of Enboo/GB stuff). They do/did have the Saleucami BP and Vader w/album on an endcap at one point though - just no basic figures. Anyways, I stopped by our local TRU and Target today, and both had lots of TAC on the pegs. Target especially - although there were no clones, McQuarrie, or SBD there. At TRU, I was able to grab a couple more Galactic Marines, and one more Airborne trooper. They had all the figures there, except for the McQuarrie again. It looks like there will be lots of Obi-Wans and R2s to go around though. I'm basically just on the lookout for the McQuarrie Stormtrooper at this point, but I am a little concerned about finding it (let alone two of them).
-
That's interesting, Brian. One of the Wal-Marts in my area was loaded with basic figures on an endcap, along with many coin albums and Saleucami sets. I mean, loaded. At least twenty of each clone and many of the other figures. Of course, there was only one McQuarrie Storm Trooper which I now regret passing on. It's kind of funny how greatly Wal Mart stores differ from each other.
Anyway, here are some of my opinions on some wave one figures. Thus far, I have picked up three Galactic Marines, two Super Battle Droids, two Airborne troopers, and one Concept Art Storm Trooper. These figures seem to be the best of the wave, as well as the hardest to find. The Super Battle Droid is the best, and the flames are kind of cool. The clones are well done, and the removable helmets are a really nice touch. The concept Art Stormie is a vast improvement over the 2003/2004 version. It's amazing what some new paint can do to a figure. Overall, Wave 1 seems like a very good wave and I cannot wait to pick up the other four or five figures.
-
I lucked out a few weeks ago and found the McQuarrie Stormtrooper and Airborne Trooper, now all I want is ONE Galactic Marine. Patience is a virtue, right? :-\

Hmmm...Im speaking to nobody in particular...but hah! Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all to get mine on eBay. I've taken a lot of grief for my recent decision to purchase a less than expensive McTrooper from a scalper I knew off eBay, but now everyone's complaining that they can't find one...

I finally found concept stormtroopers the other day. Took a while. For whatever reason I really like these with the new paint job. I'm hoping to pick up a few more.

No it's always a bad idea to hand $20 over to a scalper for a single basic figure on eBay when at the time the wave had been out in stores for a week in most places and hadn't even hit yet in others. Especially when the figure is a rerelease and is being packed in cases from now until at least June. Chances are you could have gotten 3 of them for that same money in a store if you didn't pay the very people that try pretty hard to **** up our hobby.
And even if you went the next 3 months without seeing one on the pegs, you're still paying the person that caused the whole situation 3x the retail price, and giving the green light for him to do it again.

A lot of the money that I've seen wasted in the hobby over the years can mainly be attributed to impatience and a lack of research. And to that end I know of two specific things you can do in order to keep from being ripped off like this.
-Do your homework. Surf the forums so that you can stay current on when figures are hitting stores. You will notice trends where you can pick out which chains are getting new figures. See a lot of reports in forums that Target stores are getting a new wave of figures in? Start hitting Target stores specifically in your toy runs. And using something like the Target DCPI numbers and their scanners to determine whether or not they have figures in their stockroom can help you as well.
-Persistance. Try to hit the stores on a regular basis. Opening times are a great time to hit stores. They usually stock during the overnights and you're likely to get first crack at figures because of that.
It's these methods that led to me getting the McQuarrie Trooper and the rest of the ROTS wave at retail. I saw some of the ROTS wave at a Con a few weeks before they showed up at retail but I held off. They were way overpriced and I wasn't going to pay $20 for an Airborne Trooper so that I could have it a week or two before everyone else. I found it at retail and patience paid off.

Besides... You shouldn't pay $20 for one figure... And, how is paying 3x the actual retail price "less than expensive"? seems pretty pricey to me...
-
I went by the local KB TOys at the mall yesterday and they had just put out a case of TAC figs so once they put them on the pegs I saw the McQ Stormie and picked it up. now I just need another to open ;)
-
If you hurry, Hasbro Toy Shop currently has the McQuarrie Trooper (as well as the rest of the wave) listed as "in stock". I went ahead and placed my order, so I don't have to worry about finding it. Just a heads up for anyone who is looking for any of this wave.
-
Out of stock...
Oh well. With all the future reships he should be easy to find, so I won't have to pay a scalper $20 for it. After all, I thought I'd never find ROTS Tarkin and TSC Scorch, but I found both of those, albeit a little later after they came out.

Reid is 100% correct. Give me one example of a figure from the first wave what was impossible to find.

Okay, look dude...This wave has been out for a matter of weeks. The McQuarrie Stormtrooper is being repacked several more times into future waves and revisions and is shipping into the summer. None of us really care that you paid $20 to a scalper because you're impatient, but to come in here and try to sell it to us as some stroke of genius that you had or that it's "going to be worth something in the future," none of us agree. It was the absolute worst way to obtain the figure and we all know it.
Nobody really cares that you support scalping, those of us that are clever enough to obtain things for retail prices despite scalper's efforts aren't bothered by them much anyway.
We're all happy that you love your $20 basic figure courtesy of a scalper that's been out for 3 weeks, but I'd probably just forget about trying to convince all of us that we're never going to see the figure on the pegs. Because many of us already have, and those who haven't have months of future shipments to find it, probably in multiples.
I have now found it on 2 morning toy runs to Target, once at Walmart, and once at KB.
Let. It. Go.
:P
-
i have seen 3 so far. only bought one passed on the other mcstormy. its not the greatest figure ever. and not even close to being worth 3 times of retail price.best way to finish a wave and find the "hard" to get figures is be at the store early....not place a bid on ebay or what not.
-
It's nobody's place on these boards to tell anyone HOW to collect and do what they want... Well, short of scalping anyway, it's nobody's place, but I have to say I agree with the general perspective that buying from the scalpers contributes to the problem... Big or small (seems to depend on where you live really... One area of my city has seemingly lots while other areas have none, and one area of the States has more than another, etc.), it's still a "problem" out there...
I think though, if you miss something you're further ahead to wait... show patience, wait it out, and NETWORK (that's a major key nobody's mentioned much yet). Networking can net you the pieces you want. Case-in-point with me, I didn't get a SBD Factory Builder set, and that was a toughie to find... I wound up getting TWO for less than retail some years later through a friend. And that's a legitimately "rare" item too. Was a tough find.
The McTrooper's scheduled to reship in some cases... Hasbro's said NOTHING about "limited supply" of the McFigures in general either, and believe me if they were limiting them they'd let you know about it so you went out and bought up bunches. Add to that then the fact Hasbro loves to remix things as the year drags on... Think about how much of a bitch it was to find Utapau Clones when first released last year. Death Star Gunners? Take your pick of the "flavor-of-the-month" figure that was a pain to find and yet you were swimming in them at some point.
Now, that doesn't mean we'll swim in McTroopers... He could turn out to be "rare". But again, patience and networking will yield you one. That's what the supposed point of online communities is, ultimately... It gets lost at some sites, at others you have to seemingly have your nose up the right guy's ass to get anywhere, but around here it seems like it's a system that generally works out pretty well.
It's food for thought... I just know I refuse to pay $.01 over retail for anything... Heck, I complain about retail, so how could I justify paying MORE than retail? :)
-
McStormy
Super Battle Droid
There you go!
These are disqualified since they haven't been out long enought to prove the point. The line must be done, i.e ROTS and earlier, to qualify.
BTW, the SBD is not impossibe to find around here. In fact, it's almost peg warming.
-
Wow, consider yourself lucky. All we have here are mountains of Windu, Obi and R2.
That's it.
Well, there's still a ****load of Greatest Misses and Jerrods laying around, but who's counting?
-
I saw this wave around town this weekend a fair amount, but it was all Obi-Wans, R2s, and a handful of Mace Windus. Wal-Mart is still buried in older figures (Enboo mainly), so they haven't had any TAC there yet. Target has a healthy stocking, but it is just the three figures listed above. I have seen all of this wave at retail at least once, aside from the McTrooper, but the clones, lava miner, and SBD all sell pretty quickly it seems.
-
Nobody really cares that you support scalping,
I don't support scalping because it's terrible. I just bought something from someone who happened to be a scalper. I wouldve bought it if he wasnt a scalper. :P
-
Sometimes it's in your best interest not get the last word in.
-
Indeed. You can try to offer friendly advice about saving money in the hobby, but people have to be receptive to that. So then it boils down to priorities and impulse control. Some people want to save money over the long haul (because buying at inflated prices adds up), and other people want things right now despite a higher price. We all have to make our own decisions about what is the right course of action for ourselves.
-
Well, there's still a ****load of Greatest Misses and Jerrods laying around, but who's counting?
I'm looking for 7 more Jerjerrods. If you want to pick some of yours up and trade them in for stuff on my trade list, let me know.
-
I stopped at my local Wal-mart this morning at 7:00am, like I have almost every weekday morning for the last month trying to get a McQuarrie. They had 37 TAC wave 1 figures up on the pegs. 2 SBD, 4 Airborn... but no McQuarrie. I figure they must have put up at least 4 cases of figures? I'm pretty down right now with Hasbro still packing him at 1 per case and now wave2 starting to show. I've read all the discussion about waiting and they will show up but I no longer agree. I think he will remain almost impossible to find and the McQuarrie figures in the next wave will be worse to find as this spirals downward. I sure hope I'm wrong but thinks look dark at this point.
-
finally they appeared in my town, so i am lucky :) i took the airborne trooper and galactic marine, very nice, but mace windu, mcquarrie and r2 were missing, i wanted to buy mace, but maybe he'll appear again
-
I acquired Mace from a trade with a fellow collector today. Hes pretty cool. Hes growing on me... 8)
And now, Obi-Wan is officially the peg heat-wrap of the Targets of SJ. R2's also getting there. No one else seems to be warming though, kind of a good thing now that i have all the ones i need...that is, except SBD!!! :'(
-
Just wanted to pass along a truly strange story that borders on creepy.
I may have mentioned this before (I'm too lazy to look), but about a month ago, I picked up a Super Battle Droid figure at Target and when I opened him up, I noticed that he had two left hips. His lower legs were correct, but where his right hip should have been was a backwards left hip. I found this pretty odd, but nothing too disconcerting as he could still stand on his own rather well, and since I have multiple SBDs, it did kind of add a bit of variety to the stances.
Well, yesterday, I walked into a local Wal-Mart and bought another SBD. When I got home and opened him up, I noticed that, shock of shocks, he had two RIGHT hips. Again, his lower legs were correct, but in place of his left hip was a backwards right hip. EXACT OPPOSITE OF THE PREVIOUS FIGURE.
The obvious question is to the customizers who might be reading this thread: I've found that the hips pop off pretty easily without any boiling/whatever/etc, but I'm having trouble figuring out how the knee joints are connected and if they are easily removed/replaced. Now that I have both sets of hips, I can make two correct SBDs without backward hips, but I'm about as skilled in customizing as Ben Affleck is in dramatic acting, so any advice before I destroy a figure would be appreciated. :)
The second thing is that this is the most bizarre thing I've ever had happen to me through the many years I've been collecting SW toys. I mean, one backward hipped figure is kind of weird, but to get another figure, in another area, at another retailer, and have it with not only the same problem, but have it be the exact reverse of the previous figure, essentially giving me the tools to correct said problem on both figures, is ******* creepy. :)
-
Creepy......Or lucky?
My advice, play the lottery.
-
No sign whatsoever that TAC even exists in Jax. ::)
-
Dr. P,
Boil up some water... Drop the SBD in. His knee/leg should pop apart pretty easily. The construction is a pin holding the knee to the thigh. I just looked at mine, and that's all there is to it. The leg pieces should become flexible (you might be able to do this by running it under scalding hot tap water too), and the pin should push out with a little force... Pretty simple.
-
Creepy......Or lucky?
My advice, play the lottery.
Sadly, if he's like everyone else, he used all his luck up on the SBD's and won't be eligible for anything lucky for another seven years. :P
-

Yeah, I fear that this will be my one "lucky" collecting incident and that it's all downhill or Jerjerrod from here on out. ;)
Thank you for the advice, Jesse. I'll let you guys know how it goes. :)
-
well i picked up another SBD. great figure but i think im done with this one for now. might pick up a third later but i need to save up for wave 2 and a v-wing...when ever that things hits stores that is (in canada)
-
Success! ;D
Thanks again for the tip, Jesse. Extremely hot tap water worked really well, and I was able to pop the knee joints and switch them in less than 10 minutes. :)
Obi-Wan and R2-D2 (and to a lesser extent, Mace Windu) are REALLY starting to back up around here. Wal-Mart, Target, and TRU all have at least 4 Obi-Wans and TRU is holding the record for R2s at 12. Someone please tell me that neither of these are shipping in future cases because, if they are, all those Jerjerrods are going to get jealous and start multiplying again to take back their crown. :)
-
Wow, WM is getting TAC!!!???? :o
;)
