Other Collectibles / Re: Playskool Line/Galactic Heroes Thread
« on: July 14, 2004, 01:44 PM »
Congrats on the find Jeff!  You hit the jackpot today from the way it sounds (between these and the VOTC).  We don't have any K-Marts left in town, so we haven't seen either at retail around here, but I'm hoping they show up elsewhere soon.  I'm really into those Galactic Heroes line, and I'm really looking forward to getting them all (especially the Bespin Han).  I look forward to hearing your comments on them once you get them cracked open.  Nice score :).

Congrats on the VOTC finds Jeff!  I broke down and ordered Obi and Leia via Amazon.com as well now, since we were placing an order there anyways for some other things.  Did the same thing with Han last week, and received him on Friday.  He looks amazing, and its all I can do to not rip him off the card to check it out closer.  These figures are amazing, and I really wish they would look to expand/continue this line in the future...even if it was just limited to 10-12 a year, collector focused like these are.  I really want to pick up 2 sets, so I can keep one carded, but the wifey isn't going for it so far.  I guess I can understand at $10 a pop.  Anyways, congratulations again on the finds, have you opened any of them up yet?  I'm hoping Luke shows up sometime soon as well (and the rest of the waves!)  Can't wait to see some pics from Comic-Con.

To say things are moving well is an overstatement I believe...  NEW stuff is, like VOTC I think...  Well enouogh at $10 a figure anyway.

This was something I was kind of curious about.  The VOTC hasn't shown up around here yet (we don't have any K-Marts in town), and I was wondering how quickly these guys would move.  I don't know if it takes "casual" fans finding out about them, the DVD release, or scalpers, etc....I figured these would fly off the pegs as fast as they could stock them (at least at first).  Granted, the "A New Hope" wave will likely be one of the easier ones to find though...I just don't see figures like Vader, Yoda, Fett, and the Stormie hanging out too long.  Still considering preordering a case including these...  I've had a tough time judging the OTC sales so far as well, granted it is very early in the game.  The two sightings I have had (at two different Wal-Marts) seemed to have their whole respective case on the pegs.  One had the Dagobah wave, as well as recards, at 1x each...with 12 total on the pegs.  The other one had at least 3x each of the Bespin wave, and no others.  Just curious how these would sell, I honestly didn't think I'd be able to find them on the pegs...but so far so good (and thanks to Amazon too, as far as the VOTC is concerned :P)

Ok, now that many people are starting to see the recarded rehashes actually on the pegs...are you picking them up or passing on them?  I have to say that I have passed on them, with the exception of a Han Solo simply because I always try to buy an extra Han to keep carded.  I will admit some of the others were tempting, just because of that packaging (Jedi Luke, Scout Trooper, and Chewie were close to being picked up too) but I just can't justify buying the figures just for the boxes.  Have any of you caved (that didn't think you would), or have you passed on them?  The recarded figures I have seen so far are the TR Vader, Han, Chewie, Leia (ANH), Luke X-Wing, Luke Jedi, and Scout Trooper.

It looks like Jessica Alba has been confirmed as playing Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four movie.  Visit the SuperHeroHype article at the linky ;).  Thoughts on the overall choices for the "Four"?

Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic - Ioan Gruffudd

Sue Storm/Invisible Woman - Jessica Alba

Ben Grimm/The Thing - Michael Chiklis

Johnny Storm/Human Torch - Chris Evans

I was going to start a new topic for this, but since this is the VOTC thread, I'll put it here.  I was just curious what many of you are doing for this line.  Are you buying one set, to open....are you buying two sets (one open, one carded), are you not even buying all of them?  What is your plan of action.  I ask because I'm not sure what to do.  I definitely want a complete set, and I'm usually an opener through and through, but after receiving Han via Amazon last week, I'm having troubles prying him open.  Ideally, I'd like to have two sets, to be able to leave one carded...but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to talk the Mrs. into that.  Which, I guess, I can understand.  At $10 a figure, it isn't exactly a cheap endeavor to get more than one set.  I guess I was just wondering what you are doing, how many you are buying, and if you could only buy one set...would you leave them carded or loose?  It has nothing to do with future value, I'd never sell these, I guess I just think about leaving them carded since they look so spiffy.  But I want to break that Han out to check it out closer so bad :P.  Might have to at least get two of him (and Chewie).

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases
« on: July 14, 2004, 09:16 AM »
We went on a grocery/house stuff trip to Wal-Mart yesterday, and I was able to pick up the Bespin wave.  They had 3x each of Cloud Car Pilot, Lobot, and Bespin Leia.  They didn't have any other OTC figures out there, but did have the lightsabers as well.  This Wal-Mart had been a wasteland for Star Wars for awhile before this, so maybe all of them are getting some of this product in.  I guess, as far as "new" OTC figures, I'm done for almost the rest of the year now.  That's a strange feeling.  Hopefully Hasbro will have some surprises next week at Comic-Con...until then, the search is on for the VOTC. :)

Well, while out shopping for groceries at a different Wal-Mart last night, I was fortunate enough to find the Bespin wave.  This was from a Wal-Mart that hadn't had anything but SC Anakins, Hoth Hans, and TR Lukes for quite some time...and they had 3x of each the Cloud Car Pilot, Lobot, and Bespin Leia.  I guess, as far as all-new figures (outside of the VOTC), I'm all caught up for quite some time now.  I'm still hoping Hasbro has a couple of surprises at Comic-Con next week, and we'll be seeing a few more figures by the end of the year.

Original Trilogy Collection / Vintage OTC Figure Poster!
« on: July 13, 2004, 04:18 PM »
You know, one thing I was thinking about this poster.  It is so cool, and is being given away for free....would it have been so difficult for Hasbro to have made/offered something like this (maybe for each of the movies) as a promotion to use up some of those Jedi points?  I mean, I'm glad that those who used the auctions could hopefully get what they wanted...but I never utilized those, and I don't think a lot of others did either, so it might have been a nice, cheap, way to get something for our JMP.  Oh well, I guess I'm glad they waited for the VOTC too, because those figures really look fantastic in that poster.

Yet another reason I am constantly tempted by the GameBoy as well...that game does look pretty nice.  Why does there have to be so many things I want to buy, all at the same time? ;)

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Saga Line: The End

That's a good idea, and makes sense Brent.  I should have just left them in the boxes they came in.  Like you said, with things like that it is just easier.  I have my council opened up, because I wanted to put them together...but you are right, the whole "circle" is going to take up a mess of room.  But, at least they aren't quite as much of a pain to get in the right places, or to stand right.  That is a good idea though, leaving things such as that packaged.

Kubricks / Re: Kubricks and Minimates
« on: July 13, 2004, 03:07 PM »
I kind of feel the same way about the upcoming lineups Scott.  I guess I'm just not a big Punisher/Blade fan, so those don't do much for me.  I like the Fantastic Four figures as well, so I hope to pick those up.  Enough with Wolverine already though, yikes.  I would have liked to see more Avengers as well...and to be honest, if they are going to do X-Men, I'd rather they would be from the same "era" as the Giant Sized Box Set (which I don't have anyways :P).  I think I might stick to those types of figures in this line....Spidey and his crew, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and "classic" X-Men.  I agree, let's see figures like Vision, Thor, Hawkeye, Beast, Iceman, etc.

Not sure how long it will be up, but someone over at the Art Asylum Boards has a scan posted from ToyFare, featuring Marvel Minimates series 8 and 9.  Looks like Wave 9 will be comprised of Blade, Punisher, "Patch" Wolverine :-\, Lady Deathstrike, New X-Men Cyclops, and the White Queen.  More info at the link, while it is there.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Saga Line: The End
« on: July 13, 2004, 02:28 PM »
I have been working on re-arranging my collection, to make room for both OTC/VOTC stuff, as well as some new Spidey stuff I've gotten lately, and have been getting closer looks at a few things from the Saga line.  One thing in particular is the Trash Compactor sets.  To be honest, I was really excited about picking these up when they came out...and they were tough to find around here...but now, when I look at it, I'm not all that impressed.  The Han figure isn't too bad (if it had better/different articulation, it would be ok)...but pretty much the rest of them aren't that great.  Chewie is a one-pose wonder, Luke has his eyes closed, and Leia's face sculpt (at least on mine) is especially crap-tastic.  Plus, since I took the whole thing apart to pack away for our moving, I still haven't been able to get it all back together quite right (although I haven't taken a lot of time to I guess).  It is a pain to move, since everything basically falls out/apart whenever it is moved at all.  Anyways, I'm not usually one to complain much...but just something I was thinking about...venting.  The set is not as good as I initially had hoped.  I'd still be up for a resculpt of both the Han and Luke Stormtrooper figures because of this set.

I'd like a poster too Matt, if you happen upon some extras.  I guess its pretty cool that Hasbro has some giveaways for the fans, and they are free too.  Spiffy poster.
